Brandon Toews Learns “The Dying Song” As Fast As Possible
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 тра 2024
- A little while ago, we dared Domino Santantonio - a modern pop drummer - to play a Slipknot song after hearing it once.
She's not a metal drummer and she's never listened to Slipknot. We also didn't let her hear what the drum part sounded like. Call us unfair, but we thought it turned out great!
Domino gave it her own spin, and over 2.5M views later, she's back to give us a taste of our own medicine.

You're A-MA-ZING!!!!! I knew you were going to nail this song!!!! Thanks to the Drumeo team for helping me choose this one! Congrats Brandon 😉🔥👏🏼
You’re too kind!🤣 I may have to choose another song for you next time 👀
👏👏👏👏
I love you Domino!!
Domino is at home, furiously trying to learn Slipknot's entire catalog as a precaution.
You should have made him play disasterpiece
"I don't play double kick"
immediately plays super fast singles
thats what im saying💀
I hope I don’t play double kick that well at some point
super sloppy ones tho 😂
Love or hate Slipknot, props to Jay. I've seen em quite a few times live and he absolutely crushes it every show!
Exactly. There was a quote I think Buddy Rich once gave to Jeff Porcaro on a signed drum head. "Your band sucks! Love, Buddy."
I was lucky enough to see them touring IOWA early 00's... Glasgow, Joey Jordison playing upside-down.
@@kevinwilson455 I’ve missed them every time they’ve been through Glasgow😭😂
@@kevinwilson455 was that the pledge of allegiance tour withe system of a down?
I'm not a fan of Slipknot, but the late Joey Jordison was a phenomenal drummer. Have to respect that.
I hope someday you guys are able to bring the toughest metal drummers and making them play over some unpopular fusion records. that would be sick.
Or take heavy metal drummer and make them play jazz
Good idea.
@@BrandonToews OR just more fusion drummers in general, they always seem to be severely underrated
Alex Bent!!
@@rebeccaconlon9743 try blake Richardson
"I don't play double bass at all." Then proceeds to spit out a perfect 32nd double bass part on the first try.
It was sloppy ofc, but I love how he got out of his comfort zone and played a genre he doesn’t usually play 🤟🏻
he plays it all the time , utter bull hes talking
It was sloppy. They were not perfect 32nd notes.
This is the difference between trained and untrained ears, it’s like when someone says “the vocal was great” but I hear all the flat notes, once it’s trained you can ignore, it’s clear as day sadly
Jesus, the comment was mostly tongue and cheek! Go ahead and brag about how professional you are and how much better than him you are! Lol
This is how you see how that guy is a monster. You played one song. You were pretty good. Jay plays 15-18 songs like that in one night. It's surreal.
Very true
Drumming at this pace and faster for entire set is mindboggling. How do these pro drummers have the stamina for this?
@@gredangeo practice. That's all
@@gredangeo exercise
@@gredangeo Well. Thats why they are pros. They do this shit for a living performing live in front of thousands each show for like half a year. Cant get to that level not being able to do it. Why do you think so little UA-cam musicians actually perform in bands and shit.
Brandon killed it honestly. I’ve been an extreme metal drummer for 22 years and Jay is a tough dude to replicate.
Thanks! Jay is a monster.
He'd have to be to take Joey Jordisons spot. He's a great replacement. RIP Joey \M/
@@XD_cRiMeScEnE Joey is THE GOAT. An absolute legend.
Joey's "call sign" was #1, and he definitely was, in AND outside of the band, and rightfully so. Rest in peace 🤘 #1 Joey Jordison 🤘
Jay and "extreme" don't belong in the same fucking sentence. Slipknot is just a shitty nu metal band for fat edgy 15 year olds with black eyeliner.
Wow! He really pushed himself with the double bass. 😮
Domino picked a hard one, for sure. 😂
😅😅
Should have picked Disasterpiece
Should have picked Get this or eeyore
Yeah, if you're not used to playing double bass and blast beats it will definitely push you to your limit...
I remember meeting Hellhammer once in my teens and the dude had arms and legs thicker than my whole body, that's what a drummer that plays basically _nothing but_ blast beats every song of every gig they play almost has to look because of how much strength and stamina something like that requires.
The amount of time spent at the gym some of the metal drummers I've known is pretty much comparable to semi-professional athletes, and that's on top of the time they spend practicing on the drums 😅
@@sorin_ea6lol😂😂!!!!
I remember her video she got pretty close to what Joey played without even knowing the song. Its amazing how powerful the human brain and ear are to be able to pick something up so quickly. That was impressive Jay uses a 7 or 8 piece and you pulled it off with a 4. Very nice.
Thanks Shawn!
@@3rdStageTruth He never said she heard the drum track.
I truely love the video where drummers try to learn a song they don’t know… please more of that content
Lots more on the way!
@@BrandonToews 🙏🏻👏🏻
@@BrandonToews- do one from Soundgarden. Never Named, or Spoonman.
Thanks for the channel.
I don't know what was more impressive - your constant adjustment of your glasses during nailing that song or just simply nailing that song! SO impressive dude!!!
even adjusted a tom at one point 🤣
Thanks, Mike! Haha
I love how Drumeo trolled Brandon with Slipknot, say that it's "Freebird" 😂
Haha right!
Pretty damned convincing performance for "not a metal drummer"!!
I'm impressed.
Thanks Colin!
AMEN!!!
Honestly, I’m really impressed with the double bass work
Thanks Riley!
I didn’t know he was such a beast on the drums. I just gained so much respect for him.
Yeah this was absolutely monstrous. SO much respect gained.
One of my favorite things to watch on UA-cam. It's awesome watching drummers move outside their familiar realms and play something challenging and difficult. Not only that, but show it off on tape. As a guitar player, I need to remember to challenge myself as well. Keep it up!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I missed her in those videos. Her energy is amazing!
I feel like Slipknot songs are particularly unfair because there’s technically 3 drum parts 😂
Yeah I remember in Domino's video, the first thing she picked up on was the custom percussion parts.
Well tbh you’re right. It’s difficult when listening to certain songs to differentiate between Jay going wild on the toms or the cymbals, and Shaun just hitting a beer keg with a baseball bat.
I am not a drummer but I always thought it looked exhausting, and it was nice to hear someone validate it. That said, this was a whole new level of full body workout 🤯
This is going straight into my drum inspiration playlist. Ridiculously well played while showing the effort it takes to play such a track. Super nice!
It's crazy how effortless ridiculously talented drummers make songs like this look. You killed it. Such a great job.
I love Brandon, he looks like a college advanced calculous teacher's aide then he sits down at a drum set and turns into the Zeus of drums.
Thanks to Domino for the challenge! 😅
Hahaha my pleasure 😜👏🏼
Dude, of course you were so tired, you hammered those drums with all your upper body, even your neck was leaning into it, showman style. But fantastic job, that was an amazing performance 👏
Another awesome video! Love seeing drummers work out something they haven't tried before.
Absolutely fantastic. I am blown away by the marriage between top-notch craftsmanship and pure passion. Excellent job!!
I love watching videos like this. Imagine playing the song you don't know then afterwards it feels like they've owned the song. Amazing feat at always Drumeo and to the guest drummers as well.
Pretty fantastic. It really goes to show how talented Jay and Joey are for playing stuff like this for 2 plus hours per show and keeping going.
He Hits so hard. Love it.
Such an honest guy! He is the one picking the songs and he had no idea what he was going to play! Honest and just an amazing guy
More of drummers learning new songs and more of Domino! Her Slipknot video was the best.
My god this was fun to watch. You KILLED this! This is a level of badassery I did NOT see coming
Dude, that was freakin' awesome. Loved watching the process :)
That looked SO HARD. I totally appreciated this vid. Great job. Thats insane!
the way she says “sorry” is so feaking adorable
"I don't play double bass"
*Nails double bass*
Great cover! I'd probably walk out the studio if given that to play lmao.
I used to play a lot of double bass about 10 years ago, so it probably stays with you in the back of your mind, but man am I ever out of shape with double kick haha.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@Brandon Toews for someone who doesn't play it often though, you did a great job honestly. I've never given double bass a good shot, always had the mind set of trying to learn as much as I can with a single, but I've been considering trying double haha.
Great work again Brandon, love your content on YT and Insta : )
Jay has a drum cam of himself playing this live it’s worth a watch if you haven’t already.
It is such a pleasure watching you nail this!
You did an amazing job man. It’s nice to see the struggle and you are probably working your legs out with those pedals on those patterns.
I could watch this all day and not even a drummer, thanks for making it
Brandon you did really well. It was kind of nice to see you make mistakes too. I don’t feel as bad about messing up over and over.
Thanks a lot! Trust me, I make lots of mistakes, haha.
that was one of the sweetest " sorry's " I've ever heard l love drumeo and the musical mugging these guys endure ...f..ing wicked
I love this! I'm a metal head and I love good drumming. So seeing such good drumming and these drummer stepping outside of their comfort zone learning to play these songs is really cool. 🤘
That's something! Love it so much! You're amazing!
For someone who doesn't play Slipknot, and is using like half the set, this is pretty remarkable! Well done, good sir! 🤘🏻🖤
GREAT job! Killed the double bass, especially for someone who doesn't do it normally. Also, FYI, as a metal drummer who wears glasses, Amazon has silicone ear hooks that fit on the arms of your glasses that help retain them through even the most vigorous of headbanging songs. They are like $6.99 for a set of 14. Cheers!
Daaaamn! You nailed it! And the kit sounds amazing!!!!
Cheers Brandon you absolutely crushed it! Great video 👏
Insane! Slipknot's an absolute unit of a band. I have no idea how you managed to smash that out after a short period of time!!
Love this concept
Well done.
Awesome stuff.
Cheers Drumeo .
Metal is all I know for drums! I’m glad it’s being seen as how difficult and beautiful it is.
Wow man you rock ! Being able to play like this after a few takes is just amazing ! And you say you don't play double bass drum, wow you should !
Thanks!!
The fills were sick, dude! Overall very well done! In a cover band or even live at a Slipknot concert I assume 90% of the people wouldnt notice a difference.
As a amateur drummer, this is the one of the most enjoyable drum video I've ever watched in youtube! :) Congraturalations!!!
Unbelievable work Brandon!
As a big Slipknot fan, I have to say that you nailed it. 👍👍Congrats dude, Jay Weinberg would be proud of you. 😁
Thanks Kevin!!
Congrats Brandon for taking up this challenge to play a drum cover from Slipknot, something new from the new album, The End so far! You rocked hard and just Domino said before, you just kneeled it :D, very happy to see what is the next challenge for Domino this time. Wish you all good luck with the new upcoming drumming lessons and new drum cover challenges. P.S. I propose and raise a new challenge, I would like to give to Domino the chance to play drum cover "Caravan" from "Whiplash". I hope she will enjoy the mind blasting swing-jazz jam 😉🔥👏🏼 👍👍
Brandon, you rock! Great job man!
he enjoy so much to do this, i love the energy
seeing Jazzy Brandon kick ass playing new metal makes for a very interesting entertainment, LOL. that last part with the double bass is brutal! \,,\ kudos, man!
Seemed to be indeed brutal. Felt like like doing a marathon!
Though, I would have found interesting to see your next guests doing the challenge (or even Brandon) play like a latin track for example. I would love to see them using different abilities than just playing with power and endurance. What about sensitivity and/or pocket, for example?
Cheers, Drumeo!
Actually respect! Jays drumming pieces are never easy, you literally killed it
The guy is one hell of a drummer. Made zero compromises.
it’s ok brandon, when i first listened to this song i was like “oh this shouldn’t be that bad to learn yay” and then the 1st verse started…i feel your pain.
An an aspiring drummer myself this gave me chills ! You nailed it !!! 🎉
That was so awesome. Great job you nailed it.
That Brandon was awesome, so inspiring.
Wow. What a track to learn. Great job. I'm just starting learning the drums, so fingers crossed I can get to even half your talent some day.
Thanks a lot, Neal!
Slipknot songs are always really badass, congrats! 💯🤘
This was very entertaining to watch. You nailed it. Awesome!
Absolutely crushed this my guy. It's amazing how close y'all can get on so many parts of these songs without ever hearing the drum track. Your interpretation is sick, especially considering you rarely double kick and went wild on em.
If this is what Brandon can do with just listening to the track. Imagine what he'd be able to do if he could see a video of it.
This song is actually pretty technical and difficult
Really fun concept! Your video is the first one I watched, thoroughly enjoyed it, so much I had to check out all the others as well. You all nailed it!!! And I don't even play drums.🥰
Thank you!!
you are a true WARRIOR my friend!! you nailed it!!
The best part about this series is just seeing this drummers grinning like crazy eventually, just having fun.
Awesome video!!!! You nailed it!!!!! Seeing this gave me an idea for another video. Have a drummer play a song they have never heard before BUT have them play using a Drumeo chart...no practice or rehearsal. Just sit down, open the chart and start playing along. :) Anyway, thanks for doing this! Many props to Ms Santantonio!!!!
Very few drummers can read music anymore.especially these UA-cam drummers.drumeo guys are a exception.that San Antonio woman probably can't do a correct drumroll let alone read music
Dude... very well done. You're a great drummer. This was fun to watch.
That’s pretty damn good play through for a first time !! This song is hard on drums. Great job !
Look how winded he is after just a couple playthroughs. This really shows how in shape guys like Weinberg really are to do this level of drumming for an entire concert.
Jay used to play double bass just like you actually when he first started with the Knot- he's cleaned up his technique so much and his stamina is superb. I'm seeing them in a 2 weeks I'm stoked
I saw them in 2019. You’re in for an amazing time.
Seen them last year in Charlotte NC! The show was sick! And the sound is unbelievable! Jay's drum playing is brutal! Your in in for one hell of a show for sure!
Gonna see knotfest in japan 1st of april on it goes for 2 days !!! This will be my first slipknot concert. I'm so freaking keen !!!!
@@jstonerganjasaurus4238 just saw them on Friday. Best show ever.
Absolutely amazing
Not only for nail some hard stuff like that, but you add too your "keep my glasses quiet along the all song!!!" style to the show (between you hit very hard the drumkit!!!) 😝🤘🤘🤘🤘Bravo!!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏😎
As someone who has no musical talent, it's fascinating to watch stuff like this. I have been hooked on learning about drums & guitar and regret that I didn't pursue an instrument in my younger years.
you can still do it man. pick the instrument you would like to learn and just go!
no one needs to be a virtuoso, it is just about the fun, and let me tell you, it is a lot of fun.
there is no rush to become better, just enjoy the process, there is no end to it anyway.
i hope you get inspired one day to pick up an instrument
cheers man!
@@kevinfranger Thank you for the encouragement!
@@kevinfranger thanks man I needed to hear this also!
Replace your glasses without losing the beat is an art! Same problem here Haha!
Good work with this song, you Rock! 🤘
That was incredible! Fantastic job !
That double bass work sounds great dude!! He did good with this.
At least it's not an overplayed single like Before I Forget or Psychosocial...
Also: imagine playing this in a mask and a jumpsuit at the summer at 98f/38c
Not overplayed yet. It’s only been out a few months…
Having Joey Jordison, bring in Jay Weinberg and making the seamless transition, nailing every song... those guys are amazing, just because of that, those guys do deserve being on top of the world
Joey dead
@@-JeffreyDahmer- I know man, he did not leave this wolrd being on top... he got fired from his own band amd having serious health issues
Too bad Corey’s cheesy vocals sound like butt rock now. Jay holds it down the best he can lol
That was an incredible performance. That was great!
You could broadcast an entire season of drummers playing songs for the first time. This is awesome!!
This goes to show that it doesn't matter what kind of drummer you are or what genre you prefer to play, as long as you took the time to learn the basics, you can play anything.
Except jazz. ✊
I wish they had someone learn some Pantera. I love Vinnie Paul’s playing. Especially on “A New Level of Confidence and Power”
(I’ve heard Phil say that’s the original title)
Vinnie had some awesome groove
Freaking unbelievable!!! Bravo Brandon!!!
Im quite fond of the extra notes he is able to play! the good ol "adjusts glasses" note is pretty smooth. 😄🎶
Would totally love if you guys ever gave one of the drummers a The Dillinger Escape Plan song to learn. Would be hilarious.
Yes!!!! Be awesome to see that come to life
That's just cruel 😂
@@drummerdan95 LOL yes but a funny cruel
We need Greyson Nekrutman for this
A great drummer is a great drummer. Not better but also not worse or less fitting than the original. Thanks for your videos, really enjoying those!
Thank you!!
That was pretty amazing. Well done.
Absolutely awe inspiring and awesome. I just can’t even believe that is possible!!!!!!!! This beginner is bloooooooownnnn away!!!!!
