Strange that there's a handful of people in the comments who seem to think they know more about a medical issue than this medical expert. This testimony is chilling.
@@evolvingsoul2370 I actually am an expert in how opiates effect the body before death and I absolutely know that opiates depress breathing even before you fall into a coma. His drug use was a deciding factor in his death. Along with the fact that he had people on top of him. But if he’d been a healthy, normal human being he would have survived, I’m almost sure of it. One expert at a trial doesn’t mean much. I agree he was convincing but he was being disingenuous about the dangers of opiates.
Not strange. It’s sad and pathetic. If you try to ask what their medical credentials are, they most certainly will evade the answer. This doctor was likable, credible, and he knew how to put all the complexities of our breathing system into layman’s terms.
That is one impressive Irish Doctor. I never really understood what happened to Mr Floyd until Dr Tobin explained it in court. I think his video is going to become part of police training to avoid this problem in future. Maybe with subtitles as he does not speak standard America english. He was not even paid for his work in court. Being Irish he was seen as the impartial outsider.

Hello from South Africa. Watching the trial with great interest. This doctor just hit it out of the ground. Good on you sir. You're a credit to your profession and humanity.
This is the restraint method that is taught.; healthy people that aren't overdosing have no problem with this restraint which is why it's preferred over tasering. It takes over 500 pounds, and in Floyd,s case probably over 1000 pounds on his lungs to keep him from breathing. All of the racists want to make this a race issue without realizing Chauvin married a person of color (a racist term BTW).
@@joemonroe9456 him marrying a person of color doesn’t negate him not being a racist. Many slaves owners had rape children who they in turn still put to work. @Barry Burton Get three buddies of yours to imitate what happened to Floyd. You play Floyd. One guy on your legs, one guy on your back, and one guy on your neck. 9 minutes on the floor with all that pressure on you and tell me how you feel.
@Barry Burton Bull. I just watched the video of the lethal doses of fentanyl. If Floyd was really as high as many claim, he wouldn’t have been able to kick or scream. He would have been out long before he was put on the ground. He’d be damn near comatose. If he was overdosing while in police custody, they should have put him in a recovery position, not in a restraining position. That crowder experiment was similar, but not the same. The guy was resting mostly on his shoulders. Even when he was on his neck, he wasn’t kneeling like Chauvin was. Also there was a third officer who was on Floyd’s back.
@Barry Burton That was a given that Crowder wasn’t high. There was one officer missing in his experiment and the positions his guys took weren’t the same. Again, the amount of drugs in Floyd’s system wasn’t lethal. Anyone overdosing on fentanyl isn’t screaming or moving around. If Floyd was complaining about not being able to breathe before he was taken out of the cruiser, why would Chauvin put him in a position where breathing would be more difficult? If Floyd was overdosing while in police custody, why didn’t Chauvin put his subject in a recovery position long before the ambulance arrived?
@@theboogeyman2813 I wouldn't say Absolutely nothing to do with his death, but it is not the main reason he died. He did have drugs on him and he did ingest them. However the officers saw his behavior, I.E acting erratically, becoming flamboyant and just acting overall out of the normal. they fulfilled his request of taking him out of the car. Not to his request there was a knee put on his neck. Instead of doing their job and providing basic medical aid they put a knee on his neck and made the situation worse. But i'm not here to debate with people who believe he OD'd because they are not open minded and tend to have a linear mindset and think in only one way. Which is :Cops Good, Criminals Bad.
@Carbon_6 "Can't breath" is subjective in this sense. But if you absolutely can not move any air through the vocal cords you can not talk. The ability to talk clearly and in complete sentences decreases as ventilation is compromised. It's kind of like when you run and get out of breath really bad. You can only speak one word at a time because you have to catch your breath. Various degrees of dyspnea will result in varying degrees of ability to talk. The ones who are most dyspnic sometimes struggle to get just one word out. Those are usually the ones who get intubated. Depending on the etiology of the dyspnea if a person can get a couple of words out intubation may be avoided with other prompt interventions.

@@regworld1167 if I was was the defense I would say that is is both Chauvin and King's fault that Floyd died but it wasnt the knee to the neck but rather the weight on his back. I would then argue that the cops have no knowledge of how the body works when breathing. Take the lesser charge of manslaughter.
@@iantrimbath6396 Argument invalid. The doctor makes clear that his foot was ELEVATED inches from the ground instead of planted on the floor. @PIGS TO THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE #pigstotheslaughterhouse I mean how do you expect cops to understand all this? Even if you establish that they indeed prevented him from breathing, if they were following procedure or did not intend to stop him from breathing, it's totally irrelevant information. No chance of disputing him? George Floyd himself disputes his claim, because George was moaning 'I can't breathe, I'm going to die, I'm choking' etc over and over long before cops even had a hand on him. He was doing it standing by the car, and in the back of the car, and when he was kicking his way out of the car.

@James May Yes I watched the entire trial. My point was, some of the things you said were inaccurate, which were explained in the trial. I watched the video you shared, that was my mistake, thought it was 1 minute 14 seconds. In the that video, they did not replicate what happened to Floyd. I certainly hope the jurors made their decision based on evidence and facts. Thankfully, a lot of measures are taken to protect the jurors, keeping them anonymous if they choose, but system isn’t perfect. It is important to remember that the trial wasn’t about Floyd’s character or criminal history, it was about Chauvin’s actions that day.
@James May I'll do my best to respond to everything. Are you certain George Floyd said he could not breath in the previous 2019 arrest? I just re-watched it and I did not hear him say that. Maybe there is an extended version? He did not say he couldn't breath while standing next to the car; however, he did say it before Chauvin put his knee on his neck. Have you ever had a panic attack? It feels like you can't breath, but it doesn't kill you. His ability to talk is not proof he could breath fine. I can't explain why well enough, but there are lung doctors that can. I've watched a few (not associated with the case) explain it on youtube. It is worth watching all of Dr. Tobin's testimony. The video of the alternate juror (meaning she did not have a vote) did comment on concerns of public retaliation. However, I am not aware of "several other jurors admitting riots swayed their decision. I do not support violent rioters, and they did make threats of destruction if determined not guilty. It is possible jurors were influenced by this, but I can't go inside their brain to determine that. I can only hope their decision was based on the evidence provided in court, and I believe the prosecution proved this beyond a reasonable doubt. Lastly, yes, if you were able to truly replicate every element of the time period Floyd was on his stomach, and it caused you no harm, it would prompt me to re-examine my current belief. Although, I am not suggesting you do that.
Dr. Tobin explained everything in such detail. His models and demonstrations made it easy for not only the jury, but for the entire court, to understand. George Floyd died horribly..doing everything he could to breathe...and this confirms it even more. 😢
This doctor isn't stating something accurately though. One of his big points being that the left arm was pressed into the chest. This visibly isn't the case. It WAS the case for maybe the first 30 seconds of being detained, from there the wrist was positioned to the lower back and pressure was relieved. The knee on his back being enough to cause atelectasis is arguable
@@alanbstard4 Floyd was complaining about not being able to breathe before being taken to the ground. If he was already having trouble breathing, why would Chauvin put Floyd in a position where breathing would be more difficult? They’re supposed to put subjects in a recovery position. @@sonnycusa Everyone. The drug war and smearing people using drugs is just another nonsensical way to control black bodies. Nothing about using drugs makes someone inhuman. All sorts of nonsense has been said about that. It's all gibberish. Why are they illegal I wonder?
Unfortunately this doctor is choosing to totally ignore the fact George was moaning 'I can't breathe, I'm going to die' long before the cops even had a hand on him..
If you have a basic understanding of objective evidence you would know that everything Dr Tobin said is purely theoretical, none of his analysis can be verified as accurate because he assumed a bunch of stuff from video footage.
Wow,this is the most educational physiology class I never have in my life. And Dr. MARTIN explained is the professional forensic medical analysis that I bet not all doctors as penetrated as him. The best court hearing with two top professionals in the society of the world.
Omg that image of that officer is shocking. Very upsetting. Three officers involved with a man handcuffed and not resisting in any way. All officers are responsible for his death
Do you think an image of Floyd with a gun in the abdomen of a pregnant woman is a better image ? You don’t think that would have been shocking and horrific for the woman ? Sometimes we get back what we put out in life !
THIS IS SO HARD TO HEAR..I saw how those hand cuffs where so tight he cringed on camera after the arrest at the store. He knew it was not over the twenty dollar bill. He was in fear. That blue wall coming down. The man was in hand cuffs none of there actions where lawful or NECESSARY.
And they kept pushing his hands down into him. Such pain that man must have been in. Hearing his last words was heartbreaking. You're right. He knew he was going to die. He even said it, "I'm done." Twice, at least. Peace Officers! What a joke that is!
Exactly. His arrest in handcuffs was TOTALLY UNNECESSARY. Another thing, because of George Floyd's height, that was the reason why he had a difficult time entering the police car caused by him being forced by the officers FORCING George into the police car. George was NOT resisting arrest as they accuse him of doing this. You can clearly see that.
This is who made me 100% sure that Chaucin and his accomplices are all guilty of murder. Dr Tobin will always be remembered for this, his students if he teaches are honoured to be taught by him. God bless you.
DR. Tobin was so clear, precise, direct and professional about his descriptions of every aspect of his analogy, I was wowed at his expertise. Great testimony indeed.
The most chilling part of this trial was this testimony. The most hilarious part of this trial was seeing the defence attempt to go head to head with a medical expert on medicine. Lol

Compare this computer graphic to the actual video and it isn't the same. Look at where Chauvin's knee is in the graphic; it is on his neck as you'd expect from somebody working backward from that conclusion. But if you look at the actual video, Chauvin's knee is past the neck and covers the right tanktop strap that sits on Floyd's right trapezius. This pseudoscience.
@@jonnyarmstrong6563 No, I don't think so. I watched Tobin's testimony and then compared what he said to what I'm able to see using the same evidnece. It is called critical thinking. The actual video shows Chauvin's knee in a different location than Dr. Tobin is presenting. Did you look?
@@thunkjunk No, you are a moron. @@jonnyarmstrong6563 You bask in Dr. Tobin's ultimate glory. Take a knee and worship you master. You never thought of the fact that Dr. Tobin would have a bias? It appears that he does. Look at Dr. Tobin's computer graphic and compare it to the real video. Chauvin's knee is not on Floyd's neck. Have you the video? It is the bystander video, the one everyone knows. But, you have to watch the entire thing uncut. And make sure you watch from the earliest moment. The bystander walks to Chauvin's left side early in the raw video. From that angle you can see exactly where Chauvin's knee is. It is past the neck and touching Floyd's shoulder. His knee is also angled upward toward the car. It is clearly not "grinding" or "pressing" into the neck.
Except that would show in the autopsy and it didn't. This guy works from a false premise (cause of death suffocation) and that leads him to a false conclusion.
@@Cl0ckcl0ck Correct, it did not show. However, his heart failure was due to a combination of factors, many of which were related to his difficulty to breath, which, by most means, was related to his positioning by the officer. Drugs were likely also a factor and that is important to consider in contributing to his lack of breathing (it's important not to rule them out). Understand though, that it's possible to suffocate even if no clear damage has been done to his throat. Just because the autopsy doesn't show any harm done to his throat, this does not rule out the suffocation claim as, once again, heart failure can be caused from a lack of oxygen. If you are still skeptical, I suggest you watch the raw bodycam footage here (starting from 47 minutes and onward - WARNING, it is raw footage): ua-cam.com/video/0gQYMBALDXc/v-deo.html
Suffocation wouldn’t leave evidence on autopsy in many cases. Depends on the force applied and the area over which the force was applied. If he was strangled with a thin rope or pair of hands with fingers encircling the neck, it’d leave brushing. If his lungs were compressed by someone’s bodyweight, there wouldn’t be a mark.
@@4054613 Also the second autopsy done by a well respected coroner found otherwise. Racists not liking that a black man will get justice. Even if it’s video taped and in your face. I bet you wish you lived in the 50s and 60s don’t you?
I agree the officer who had his knee on his neck knew his face was against the ground that means caused his death weather on drugs or not he couldn’t breath and officer made it worse and killed him instead of helping him period.
@Chris Young Sure, but then it becomes even more important not to effectively strangle them, by forcing weight into the small point of your knee into their neck, right? When it's already difficult to breath, the last thing you need is someone to strangle you of even more air, right? Is that such a difficult concept to grasp?
@Chris Young it’s easy to assume that George chugged down many pills than it is to see a cop not give proper aid to someone who was already in distress. Why keep adding stress to an already distressed person/situation? He could’ve just turned him over on his side, after he commented on not being able to breathe. Chauvin wasn’t alone so they could handled a simple request 🙄
Many of you are complimenting the doctors testimony but you are not taking into consideration the surgical questioning from the excellent prosecutor. Mr. Blackwell is a doctor himself in this courtroom. He’s strategically asking JUST the right questions at JUST the precise times. His form of questioning makes the doctor easily explain. The worst humanity has to offer, that he is in a position of power bringing dishonor and and shame to the uniform and badge should have all good officers front and center with outrage
To all the people pointing to Floyd's past as a reason he deserved to die, just admit you don't believe in a fair trial, and prefer to let your government's law enforcement use methods which may kill you even though you may have committed a non-lethal offense. Just ignore how law enforcement can bring mass shooters into custody after they've killed multiple people, and yet can't handle a handcuffed 46 year old with heart problems.
Just 2 to 3 milligrams of this drug can kill a person. It blocks opioid receptors and its most dangerous side effect -- like other opioids -- is respiratory depression, George had 11ng in his blood. That wont kill you? Anyone? Dont try it it will kill you. Mass shooters dont have enough drugs in their system to kill 3 grown men.

could you explain how steven crowder didnt die in his experiment? he did this knee on the neck experiment twice for 9.5 minutes each. once in a studio, and more realistically once outside on the pavement, handcuffed.
@@sirmister9099 because it was an inaccurate depiction. First off, the person in Crowder's recreation had his leg more so than the tip of the knee (that will be important later on) on Crowder's shoulder blade area instead of on the neck. Secondly, the side of the neck, which is where Derek was applying pressure, is where the carotid artery is located which affects the respiratory system as well as supply blood flow to the brain and applying pressure to that is going to be much more hazardous than on the shoulder blade area. Thirdly, the tip of the knee was placed, at best, about 2-3 inches away from the carotid artery and that is going to cause a much greater impact because of the fact that the tip of the knee is not as cushioned by adipose tissue and muscle than the upper part of the claves, thus cutting off more circulation in the artery

This is the restraint method that is taught.; healthy people that aren't overdosing have no problem with this restraint which is why it's preferred over tasering.

Being a paramedic I found his testimony very interesting

Yesterday the defense "the knee was on the shoulder". Next day, The Doc comes through with meticulously detailed testimony
yesterday is actually a problem. because this image shows the knee on the neck but we know from yesterday that that wasnt always the case.
Somewhat in defense of the defense attorney, I wouldn't want to be in his shoes. He has little to work with. It was distracting crowds, then it was pre-existing health issues... by the end of the day today, he was blaming the paramedics. He's looking for anything that will stick - anything. His best hope at this point is a mistrial... that one rogue juror.
I’m just saying he did a lot of talking and pleading or whatever for a knee on the neck!! Also , if you watch the full body cam , George Floyd was saying he couldn’t breathe before they even put him to the ground !! Ijs
I feel like even if his knee was on Floyd's back, that would still cause an immense amount of difficulty breathing. That's still someone's whole bodyweight pressed on top of you.
@@Nehway Yes, and, actually, Chavin had one knee on Mr. Floyd's back, one knee on his neck, and he was twisting Mr. Floyd's fingers of his left hand very painfully, as he shoved Mr. Floyd's cuffed hands high up on his back, between his shoulder blades, creating even greater pressure and pain. Imagine yourself in that position. It had to have been excruciating. And Mr. Floyd wasn't even struggling. It looked malicious to me.
Dr Tobin was mesmerising, very powerful, I can listen to him all day, he made a lot of sense and hope that the Jury took all of what Dr Tobin said on board for a unanimous Guilty outcome ✨✨✨
This testimony really shows how the other two officers should be on charged also
They're charged with aiding and abetting.
@@helmedon why only that? Chauvin's knee wasn't the direct cause of death. The doctors all said it was Floyd's inability. To expand his chest to breath because of the weait on him and the position they had him. So it's all of them. They all should be fiven the same charges.
@@iantrimbath6396 It's standard procedure. So its more complicated than that.

What if it was a child with asthma? Would you also say that it's okay for them to lay on the child like that?
I have trouble breathing when I'm watching and listening to testimony like this. The fear he must have felt. The hopelessness. It's unfathomable. He had people who loved him and looked forward to seeing him every day. This is heartbreaking. I force myself to watch. I feel it is the least I can do.
Precisely this breaks my heart. How must he have felt...slowly suffering and dying with a whole crowd watching him. :(
Its like if someone spends their entire life eating box after box of twinkies until they're 500 pounds and wheezing just sitting around doing nothing, then one day they're riding their rascal scooter down the sidewalk and someone pops out and says "BOO!" unexpectedly, and they die of a heart attack. Then you put that person on trial for first degree murder and imply that the 500 pounds, diet of pure twinkees, general unhealthiness had nothing to do with anything, and it could have happened to anyone.
@@williamwatkins6422 this is the stupidest comparison ever. Now if you say someone came out and put you in a chokehold while you were 500lbs, that would be more accurate. But based on your unqualified opinion, the 500lbs of fat would kill you and not the man who choked you.
Hearing it I feel I have difficulty getting air into my lungs. Its utterly devastating regardless of race, background.... once they got him in handcuffs they could let him breath
The lady he robbed at gunpoint definitely wanted to see him. He didn’t deserve this but he wasn’t a good guy and karma is a bitch. He played a hot piano and got burnt.
When that one officer suggested to Chauvin to turn Floyd on his side, as per his training. Had Chauvin said, "Yes, let's do it." There's a chance he might still be alive today
That request just may save him from jail time, he spoke up due in part fresh out of academy, I surprised the prosecutor didn't call him to testify as part of some deal that would be powerful!
You're right, they may have been able to save him. But Chauvin was the senior officer and the other three were cowards. They could have gotten off Floyd and knocked Chauvin over. They're all guilty.

Since it’s his past that’s most important, how about the cop’s past then? If we can believe the rumors about GF then shall we also believe what we heard about Chauvin? They say he had a history of roughing up Black people especially and using excessive force; doesn’t that mean he also deserves death?
he was breathing. GF alone was responsible for his own demise

When all you do is lie you start to think you can lie your way out of any situation. That's the defense.
The witness was effectively discredited.

ROCKSTAR testimony!!
Amazing
The best yet. The jury will definitely remember his testimony. Great move by the prosecution using this this expert!
Dr Tobin’s testimony is irrefutable. Absolutely brilliant and very, very credible.
@@thunkjunk You're a moron
@@jonnyarmstrong6563 No, I don't think so. I watched Tobin's testimony and then compared what he said to what I'm able to see using the same evidnece. It is called critical thinking.
The actual video shows Chauvin's knee in a different location than Dr. Tobin is presenting. Did you look?
@@thunkjunk No, you are a moron. It's beyond me how any uneducated person can be so ignorant that they conduct their own joke of an investigation into what happened and use their own poor judgement to assess the credibility of an expert, if you're too ignorant and stupid to realise Dr Tobin is the ultimate expert on this, fool, you have no hope, you buffoon.
In other words the man got suffocated to death. What a horrible way to die.

What is maybe most chilling, is that they identify TO THE MINUTE, when his bream was terminally damaged.
This testimony was incredibly detailed and well-explained. I don’t know how the defense will be able to recover from this.
4x lethal dose of fentanyl and no asphyxia caused by neck compressions on the only certifiable autopsy done 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️

"This is going to happen to EVEYBODY, when you have that level of restriction." - Pulmonologist

They are simple questions that only require a simple answer. Mr. Blackwell is just AMAZING to watch. I didn’t watch the case until the later parts because I didn’t want to get upset but once I saw Mr. Blackwell cross exam Fowler, I was glued to the screen. i have been following this trial for several days now, it breaks my heart each time.

The prosecutors are lining up their witnesses pretty well. It is like a chess game.
And the defense are playing tiddly winks...it's all they've got ...so they are trying to defend Chauvin with bogus reasoning.
A chess game indeed, leaving no room for any doubt that the officers squeezed the life out of the poor guy - that he's a drug addict doesn't wash - without his encounter with the police that day - he will still be a LIVING drug addict today and won't be the only drug addict alive today - FACT! He didn't need effing chavin and his gang to kill him!

could you explain how steven crowder didnt die in his experiment? he did this knee on the neck experiment twice for 9.5 minutes each. once in a studio, and more realistically once outside on the pavement, handcuffed.
@@sirmister9099 how many people were on his back, smartass?
