    Wow, that does look nice. Well done. 🙂 The 20mm into crash racers was my favorite.

    Looks very nice. If I may... It seems that they need a good speed to clear the flat middle part to land correctly. Also they go off left and right, so maybe you could do a larger landing part and then get it back to the standard 2 lanes. But you are on to something good here.

      Great notes. I feel the same. In the next version, the out ramp will be sloped all the way down so there's no flat section, that is unless cars aren't catching much air, then this could be used just to change elevation of the open track. Also, if cars are catching air, then making a wider landing pad is in the plans. It is awesome when cars fly off, but it also stinks. Got to find a balance there.

    From my experience, a good jump is when don't land on a flat surface. In the first part of the video, most of the cars didn't have enough speed to be able to jump over the flat part. Keep up the great work, I love to watch this kind of video, where you analyze iterations of the track.

    Very cool. The 20 mm seemed to work best with the CR straight sloped landing. Would also be a nice addition to any 1 building a rally course or for a BIG Air event. Nicely done 👌👍👍👍
    The landmine effects LOL🤣 Good stuff 😀

    Looks good overall. The other thing you can do is to lessen the input angle, so to initiate the jump takes a bit longer. They’ll still get air but it will give them more length than height.

    • @spoolheads
      @spoolheads  Рік тому

      Having a more gradual ramp is a great idea. If fast cars catch a little air and the slow cars just go over it might be a sweet spot. I'm going to make a version that is the same length as a crash racers track so that it is easy to fit it to existing builds. That will also lengthen the ramp out a little more. As it is now, I'm using all the vertical height I have on my printer so I'll need to make the longer version as two pieces that connect.

  • @LiveYoungDieCast
    @LiveYoungDieCast Рік тому +2

    If the flat in the first segment was 2” shorter you’d see some consistent landings right on target? Then again, important to note that added weight as well as it’s placement along with speed mods will play a big roll in their flight. The “give” in the landing piece is key as well to simulate suspension. It’s rad what your designing and printing man! ❤️

    • @spoolheads
      @spoolheads  Рік тому

      Great comment Baines. Next version I'll have the ramp head down right after the peak, so everything after the top angles down. Flat track on top is great if they are just rolling through, but if the cars catch air, there's a problem with the landing. I've got a couple modified cars to test out next round.

    Lets see super soft foam under the track to absorb the weight of the vehicles when they land. Also, at about 1000 frames per second in slow motion for science purposes of course. In three different views or more. Hey, thats not demanding, you asked what we want to see. LOL

  • @H3zzard
    @H3zzard Рік тому +2

    Hmmm... I've got no complaints about any of the track-pieces and their setups you've showcased, as they're all brilliant in their own ways (especially the 'landmine' noise-ones!)
    It has been many, many moons since I've purchased Hot Wheels, so it's more of a surprise to see that the suspension is all but gone these days! I guess they really don't make them like they used to - and that there's something to be said for my (admittedly dwindling) couple of circa 70s/80s vehicles.

    • @spoolheads
      @spoolheads  Рік тому +1

      In general, I feel like Hot Wheels sets are much more gimmicky. They have the kids stuff with sharks eating cars and stuff and they have the track builder series which is ok, but they aren't reaching an adult demographic. Look at how well Lego has expanded their market while Hot Wheels has done nothing really to capture adult's imagination. I guess that's what I'm enjoying the most about this process. I get to explore a new market and try to create in that space. It's really been fun.

      @@spoolheads I wonder if Hot Wheel is toning down the adults need to raid the stores and grab up everything before others get any chance to buy anything? Every time I go to Walmart it’s mostly empty and only adults can afford to be pig headed.

    Another thing, wheels leaving the ground going uphill is better than going downhill. For 1, the car might only wheelie, but if all 4 leave, the car lands sooner, & at a lower height from the track. Downhill goes as you said, "bouncing" bcz of no shocks, as well as "distance of fall." The car needs to skate the jump, just like moto x. Huge jumps, with soft landings bcz of the angle when landing. I'm not all that at math, but all these jumps are math equations. Your channel is Dope by the way!

    What rate of success are you looking for? From watching a ton of channels anything under 60-70% "clean" jumps starts to feel a little haphazard. Also, are you shooting are 60 or 120fps? Purely curious.

    • @spoolheads
      @spoolheads  Рік тому

      I think a 90% rate would be a dream, maybe higher. Feels like people have the most interest in the smaller ramp so if cars catch air, it feel more real. These test were shot at 240fps and slowed to 30fps.

    • @colonelfailure
      @colonelfailure Рік тому

      @@spoolheads Thanks. Which camera is your weapon of choice?
      I agree 90% is about right. 3D's latest rally track where the landing ramp is raised has been particularly effective at guaranteeing air with clean landings. Your ramp is very clean, and I love that you're analysing the landings to get an optimum design figured out.

  • @thetoytable299
    @thetoytable299 Рік тому

    When I watch and hear that you can print your track... I am think you you should try printing a wider landing piece.
    I have made really neat jumps simply taping and ramping up old baseball cards. Just enough speed to lift the wheels.

  • @theofficialtwampdog9685
    @theofficialtwampdog9685 11 місяців тому

    You may be able to give the cars some "shocks" if you change the material of the axel. Now they're just metal pins that never really had a need to be flexible and short, so no research. But what about a different substance for the axel like types of plastics that can last as long as the metal axels & can flex at such a short length?
