People who say "more teenagers and young people claim to be bisexual then ever before" maybe, just maybe, there is the same amount but more people feel comfortable coming out and being in a homosexual relationship, so they don't pretend to be straight and only gave heterosexual relationships

they act as if there haven't always been people who are bi/like multiple genders/have dated different genders/etc. like for example some of my idols like Janis Joplin dated both men and women and so did Joan Baez and both of them were most famous in the 60s. ppl like this have always been around and the label of bisexual has also been around for a long time although maybe less people labeled themselves as such.

I remember I was having a conversation with my dad about sexualities, and he expressed in passing some skepticism about bisexuality. I immediately looked him in the eyes and asked, "So you genuinely believe that anyone who claims they're bi is either an attention-seeking straight or a gay in denail?" And he was like, "Okay, fair, that can't be right, I guess bisexuality is real."
There's nothing wrong with people thinking they are bisexual and later realising they're not, but don't call it phase please. Also you're not going questioning people who say they're straight stop doing it to lgbt+ people.

Yeah, bisexual and omnisexual overlap, and the label it's just a prefernce. You can like all genders and still identify ass bi. They overlap because when the bisexual manifesto was made the official defination of bi, there were already pan and omni, but they were less known. Fell free to ask any other questions❤️

Exactly! Monogamy is the norm in our society, so if two people are in a relationship they may CHOOSE to not act on their attractions to other people, but that doesn't necessarily mean they don't have those attractions.

As a bisexual person in a “straight passing relationship”, I have received a lot of criticism from the LGBTQ+ community discrediting my identity as bisexual. I have felt very scared to be part of a community that usually ostracizes me and questions my authenticity in regards to my sexuality and that is very emotionally draining to me. I wish that more open conversations could be had in regards to bisexual erasure in our community.
I feel for you. Sometimes it feels like the LGBTQ+ community can be more outwardly biphobic than anybody. Please don’t be afraid to take up space in a community that you belong to- your relationship doesn’t invalidate your identity. Hopefully one day it won’t be this hard x

Bi people don't have "straight passing privelege." saying that they do perpetuates the idea that they automatically become straight/gay once in a monogomous relationship with someone. I'm a bi girl and I deadass worry about not alternating who I date enough. I've been in 4 relationships ever. Wish my parents would do more like that... Instead when I came out to them my mom was like "You're probably just confused between what admiration and attraction are" and then like "As long as you don't actually get in a relationship with a woman" after I explained to her that I do indeed know the differences between my own feelings. She still loves me and I know she won't abandon me as her daughter but like... I still wish she made an effort to understand instead of complaining about other lgbt things like people being trans while in the car or at the dinner table. I had told her before about being ace (I'm demi-ace) as well and she just responded with "You'll grow out of it". Like... that's not how that works... She's a psych nurse even, and it took years for her to actually understand how she was hurting me as someone neurally divergent. This isn't all to say she's bad all around, no. She's learned a lot when it comes to my mental health and I'm proud of her for that. I love my mom. I just wish she'd do the same when it comes to understanding my sexuality and not... being phobic about it. I can't be open about many things with who I am to the people I share the same living space with and it hurts. And now I'm getting carried away here. And of course with the fact that if a bi person is attracted to both males and females (and all genders in between), they're attracted to 2x more people and therefore they're 2x more likely to cheat. Sadly, the first person I heard this from was a lesbian friend of mine who outright said she didn't trust bisexuals and called them "too fickle", citing the possibility that she'd be involved with a woman and then get dumped in favour of some bloke. Frankly, I couldn't see how this was supposed to be in some way "worse" than her dating a lesbian woman and being dumped for another woman or me dating a heterosexual woman and being dumped for another man. Bi is liking two or more genders with no preference (ie: women and men but not nb) would be bi but you can be bi and like nb. Pan is liking everyone with no preference, we pay attention to personality more. Of course, sexuality is fluid so take it with a pinch of salt but those are the “definitions”

so one of my bffs is bisexual, but for some time, she was questioning whether she was lesbian or bisexual because ppl were telling her she isn't ACTUALLY appart of the community since she apparently is "partially" straight. ppl were making her think that her sexuality is not valid. and another thing that she told me once was, "what if i'm actually straight? and i am just lying to myself?" it literally broke my heart. bisexuals go through so much shit so moral of the story believe bisexuals when they say they are bisexual and go on with your day.

My mom came out to me as bi in her late 50s, having been married to my dad for over 40 years. That relationship did not invalidate the fact she was bisexual. And she was my greatest ally and supporter (I had come out many years earlier). I miss her every day.
I remember after coming out as lgbt and hearing everyone is a little gay and hearing my friend say their parents were bi I asked my parents if they ever had a relationship with the same sex or were attracted to the same sex but nope, they are very straight. I was disappointed. My parents are just really boring, I think they have sex in the missionary position and they don’t have any sex toys. They’re boring but they’re very open to other people not being boring, just because you’re boring doesn’t mean you got to be closed minded.
True story coming. One time I was chatting with someone and the topic of sexualities came up. They said that only girls can be bi. I responded with a confused look and just pointed at myself and said “Errr, hello. Allow me to introduce myself.”. They didn’t get what I was talking about and asked what I meant so I clarified that I am indeed a (very) bisexual male. They then had THE AUDACITY to say “No, you’re not. Well, as a bi person also married to a man here's the easiest way to explain it. If you get married to a man, and you are gay, what will happen later on down the road when you find someone attractive? Will you resist the urge to cheat? The question you are asking is literally the exact same as asking and married person how they plan to control themselves when they see someone who is attractive. Bisexuality doesn't have anything to do with having a weaker sense of loyalty to one's partner. It only has to do with the number of genders we happen to find attractive people in. If I was straight, I wouldn't suddenly not find other men attractive just because I got married. Cheating is a personal decision people make, it is not a consequence of any sexuality.

I have a boyfriend now and mostly had crushes on boys growing up (which I blame on my dad being emotionally non-existent from my life for the most part but that's a whole other story) but I had a crush on two girls (not at once ofc lol) and I definitely felt more-than-friendly attraction to a girl I met on a beach once, in 2017, but back than I had lots of internal homophobia and repressed the feelings. so yeah, eventually I got a crush on an accepting person who's pan, and they're now my best friend. I got over them eventually and met my now bf. he's also very accepting. through having a crush on my bff, I learned to accept myself the way I was. the girl I liked before them was the "rude awakening", I'd say lol. (for context, this was back when my enby best friend still identified as a girl, or at least before they came out to me.) my point is, even though I've never dated a girl, I'm still bisexual and I'm attracted to all genders.

I can kinda understand the “I wish guys could just be honest and say they’re gay, but we gotta do the bisexual in between step first.” As I have a friend that came out as bisexual only to come out as gay 2 weeks later. I would change the statement though to “I wish gay people could feel secure enough to be honest and say they’re gay, instead of coming out as bisexual first.”
As I do feel that someone that is gay coming out as bisexual first when they know what they are does nothing but make others think that bisexuality doesn’t exist, and it’s just someone being to scared to come out as gay. Which for the most part isn’t the case

38 and never had a girlfriend :). Now in a friendship group with mainly lesbians (some of which tried out some biphobia with me- we got over that when they realised it wasn't going to fly)- and was last seen waving my goddamn huge bi flag at pride last year. Got totally fed up of people trying to erase me which led to me closeting myself.
I'm turning 49 this month and just realized that I'm bi a few days ago. Because I've only dated men, and was married to one. And hope to one day marry another man. Whatever we feel, however we live, we are valid!
Speaking of things that don't exist. I just came out to my parents as asexual. Rollercoaster that has lasted for months is finally over. I did it quite badly but I think it worked out alright. Everything else was almost perfect considering the conditions, but I left a lot of room for misunderstanding. Luckily no misunderstandings happened. They accepted me for who I am. Couple years ago I had no clue how hard and complicated coming out can be. I wish all the strength for people still waiting for a chance, right moment, or courage to do it. Do it, it's worth doing if it's safe.

Fun fact: when a straight person enters into a relationship, they stop being straight and are monogamous instead. They are then unable to feel attraction to any other people. If they still do it means the relationship was just a stepping stone to being poly.

I got told by a college professor that I wasn't really bisexual, I just hadn't met a guy or woman that really swept me off my feet, cause when I did, I'd make my choice. I said, that's like if I called you vegetarian if I saw you eating a salad, or a carnivore when eating steak. You can't be an omnivore, you just haven't eaten a food that sweeps you off your feet and you make your choice.

Yeah, bisexual and omnisexual overlap, and the label it's just a prefernce. You can like all genders and still identify ass bi. They overlap because when the bisexual manifesto was made the official defination of bi, there were already pan and omni, but they were less known. Fell free to ask any other questions❤️

As a bisexual person in a “straight passing relationship”, I have received a lot of criticism from the LGBTQ+ community discrediting my identity as bisexual. I have felt very scared to be part of a community that usually ostracizes me and questions my authenticity in regards to my sexuality and that is very emotionally draining to me. I wish that more open conversations could be had in regards to bisexual erasure in our community.
I feel for you. Sometimes it feels like the LGBTQ+ community can be more outwardly biphobic than anybody. Please don’t be afraid to take up space in a community that you belong to- your relationship doesn’t invalidate your identity. Hopefully one day it won’t be this hard x

Wish my parents would do more like that... Instead when I came out to them my mom was like "You're probably just confused between what admiration and attraction are" and then like "As long as you don't actually get in a relationship with a woman" after I explained to her that I do indeed know the differences between my own feelings. She still loves me and I know she won't abandon me as her daughter but like... I still wish she made an effort to understand instead of complaining about other lgbt things like people being trans while in the car or at the dinner table.
I had told her before about being ace (I'm demi-ace) as well and she just responded with "You'll grow out of it". Like... that's not how that works...
She's a psych nurse even, and it took years for her to actually understand how she was hurting me as someone neurally divergent.
This isn't all to say she's bad all around, no. She's learned a lot when it comes to my mental health and I'm proud of her for that. I love my mom. I just wish she'd do the same when it comes to understanding my sexuality and not... being phobic about it. I can't be open about many things with who I am to the people I share the same living space with and it hurts.

Sadly, the first person I heard this from was a lesbian friend of mine who outright said she didn't trust bisexuals and called them "too fickle", citing the possibility that she'd be involved with a woman and then get dumped in favour of some bloke.
Frankly, I couldn't see how this was supposed to be in some way "worse" than her dating a lesbian woman and being dumped for another woman or me dating a heterosexual woman and being dumped for another man.
I've dated more than one bisexual woman and the reasons the relationships didn't last had nothing to do with infidelity on anyone's part. Relationships sometimes (often?) end.

so one of my bffs is bisexual, but for some time, she was questioning whether she was lesbian or bisexual because ppl were telling her she isn't ACTUALLY appart of the community since she apparently is "partially" straight. ppl were making her think that her sexuality is not valid. and another thing that she told me once was, "what if i'm actually straight? and i am just lying to myself?" it literally broke my heart. bisexuals go through so much shit so moral of the story believe bisexuals when they say they are bisexual and go on with your day.
Even though I've accepted that I'm bi for a while now, and I'm pretty comfortable with my sexuality, I sometimes still get those thoughts.

My mom came out to me as bi in her late 50s, having been married to my dad for over 40 years. That relationship did not invalidate the fact she was bisexual. And she was my greatest ally and supporter (I had come out many years earlier). I miss her every day.

I remember after coming out as lgbt and hearing everyone is a little gay and hearing my friend say their parents were bi I asked my parents if they ever had a relationship with the same sex or were attracted to the same sex but nope, they are very straight. I was disappointed. My parents are just really boring, I think they have sex in the missionary position and they don’t have any sex toys. They’re boring but they’re very open to other people not being boring, just because you’re boring doesn’t mean you got to be closed minded.
True story coming. One time I was chatting with someone and the topic of sexualities came up. They said that only girls can be bi. I responded with a confused look and just pointed at myself and said “Errr, hello. Allow me to introduce myself.”. They didn’t get what I was talking about and asked what I meant so I clarified that I am indeed a (very) bisexual male. They then had THE AUDACITY to say “No, you’re not. Men can only be gay or straight. That’s just how it works.”.

I’m curious about dating bisexual people because they’re attracted to more than one gender so wouldn’t that affect them later on down in a relationship? Like your married to a man, and you’re bi but don’t you ever want to be with a woman again or sleep with a woman? Or do you just suppress those feelings?
Well, as a bi person also married to a man here's the easiest way to explain it.
If you get married to a man, and you are gay, what will happen later on down the road when you find someone attractive? Will you resist the urge to cheat?
The question you are asking is literally the exact same as asking and married person how they plan to control themselves when they see someone who is attractive.
Bisexuality doesn't have anything to do with having a weaker sense of loyalty to one's partner. It only has to do with the number of genders we happen to find attractive people in.
If I was straight, I wouldn't suddenly not find other men attractive just because I got married. Cheating is a personal decision people make, it is not a consequence of any sexuality.

I have a boyfriend now and mostly had crushes on boys growing up (which I blame on my dad being emotionally non-existent from my life for the most part but that's a whole other story) but I had a crush on two girls (not at once ofc lol) and I definitely felt more-than-friendly attraction to a girl I met on a beach once, in 2017, but back than I had lots of internal homophobia and repressed the feelings.
so yeah, eventually I got a crush on an accepting person who's pan, and they're now my best friend. I got over them eventually and met my now bf. he's also very accepting.
through having a crush on my bff, I learned to accept myself the way I was. the girl I liked before them was the "rude awakening", I'd say lol. (for context, this was back when my enby best friend still identified as a girl, or at least before they came out to me.)
my point is, even though I've never dated a girl, I'm still bisexual and I'm attracted to all genders.

I can kinda understand the “I wish guys could just be honest and say they’re gay, but we gotta do the bisexual in between step first.” As I have a friend that came out as bisexual only to come out as gay 2 weeks later. I would change the statement though to “I wish gay people could feel secure enough to be honest and say they’re gay, instead of coming out as bisexual first.”

Speaking of things that don't exist. I just came out to my parents as asexual. Rollercoaster that has lasted for months is finally over. I did it quite badly but I think it worked out alright. Everything else was almost perfect considering the conditions, but I left a lot of room for misunderstanding. Luckily no misunderstandings happened. They accepted me for who I am.
Couple years ago I had no clue how hard and complicated coming out can be. I wish all the strength for people still waiting for a chance, right moment, or courage to do it. Do it, it's worth doing if it's safe.

I got told by a college professor that I wasn't really bisexual, I just hadn't met a guy or woman that really swept me off my feet, cause when I did, I'd make my choice.
I said, that's like if I called you vegetarian if I saw you eating a salad, or a carnivore when eating steak. You can't be an omnivore, you just haven't eaten a food that sweeps you off your feet and you make your choice.
