  • We get five days unprecedented access to PXG's R&D robot to test the latest golf balls.
We test 21 different golf balls at three driver swing speeds (85 MPH, 100 MPH and 115 MPH), and hit each model with irons and wedges to show what's on the line by making the wrong selection.
Based on data we choose our top performers and explain what you need to know to select the best golf ball for your own game.

This is by far the best ball test/comparison I've seen on UA-cam! The human error factor is completely removed.

I play the Pro V1X. It's good to know that I'm accurately missing the green like I should.

Kudos to Today's Golfer for doing this comprehensive ball test. Thanks to PXG folks for making their facilities and resources available. With the mind-boggling array of golf balls available, from every manufacturer, it has been next to impossible to figure out which balls may be best-suited for you. This study makes the job easier, so we don't have to go out try out every ball out there. This objective study is 100 times better than what Golf Digest and Golf Magazine do in their golf ball reviews where all balls neatly fit in their 5-star or Gold/Silver designations and you are left scratching your head as confused as ever. About time someone brought some clarity to golf ball selection. Hope you will continue to do this kind of analysis in the future on a regular basis. Hit 'em straight!

this was the best review I've ever seen on almost anything! the control on this study was so tight and a textbook research standard. the fact that it was a robot and not some pro made it so legit! the findings are comprehensive and this was just an all around amazing study with empirical data and solid conclusions. great stuff. I subscribed because of this video alone.

I've watched three times now. Golf ball fittings will be in demand with all the information we are learning. Great stuff! B RX is a great deal right now at $35 and snell is great deal when buying in bulk.

Amazing how differently the same ball performs and that is before you factor in strike, hard or soft bounce, wind speed and direction, air temperature and moisture. Great in depth review, plenty to digest and think about.

All I found out is I have am playing the right ball the last 20 years. Staying with Titleist even though I so wanted to play VICE which have the coolest apparel. But, we see there is a lot of gear effect as the balls themselves have flaws that can exaggerate our errors. Will but TP5x in the bag for Windy days and will be buying Snell MTB's or Mizuno JPX's for hitting into my net. I guess being a Mizuno man, I will play everything Mizuno except my golf ball. DAMN!!!! I can only imagine what this will do for ball development and this should be done every time new models come out. AWESOME Review. Thanks for all your hard work guys. So appreciate the time and effort you put in.

Great video great data. I would say the TP5x outperformed the Pro V1x in more categories but I get overall it seems to be better dispersion per robot testing. but with a human factor involved IMO the Pro v1x would spin more in regard to sidespin and back so mishits I feel is where most amateurs should look to a ball as spin kills sometimes. You cannot go wrong of course with a tp5x or pro v1x. I would take the tp5x.

Well done, This confirms what I've always believed, there are some differences between more expensive and less expensive balls but not enough to offset the inconsistencies of the golfer and that's any golfer because no golfer is a robot.

Thank you for using the robot. I can't watch the youtubers who test by swinging clubs themselves, they can't hit a ball the same way every time, no one can. But all we get in inference and "feelings". Cheers to your more objective testing.

Thank you for the best in-depth test I've seen. I just bought the "new" Kirkland 4-piece ball from Costco at $38 for 2 dozen, including tax and shipping. Have used them in the past when they first came out (remember the hype about them versus the Pro V1/V1x?) and found them a very good ball (playing off a 14 index) for my game. They released a 3-piece a year or two ago and I didn't find it as good for me. As they say, "your mileage may very". Thanks again for your reviews!

I gamed the Vice Pro+ all summer and noticed I was really erratic some rounds off the tee box. The 19 yards of dispersion vs the Pro model at only 13 yards of dispersion makes me lean towards going to with Pro from now on. My home course is very tight with lots of water so this is definitely useful to know. Loved the performance of the Vice ball around the greens and the wedge spin numbers back that up.

I recently started playing Snell's. MTB-Black was my first buy, and they were great, but I just got the tester pack to test against the MTB-X's in and out. The first couple rounds with the Blacks, all I kept saying was MAN these balls are FAST and feel great. It's really cool to get all this data and see that they are in fact some of the hottest balls out there. No better value IMHO, which is nearly 100% confirmed here; great video, thank you!!

A lot of great data here. I would add (so that people truly understand the wedge story) that a full swing PW should generate quite a bit of spin regardless of the ball while 20-50 yard pitches and some shorter chips can reveal big differences in balls and how much they spin / how they perform. I love hitting the one hop and stop pitch shot, but there are balls that you really can't pull that off with. You can of course play those shots differently and play for the ball to run out. This type of consideration is why a lot of people suggest to fit balls from the green to the tee rather than from the tee to the green.

Srixon ad333 rocks at my (105) swing speed and solid into greens. Dispersion trumps yardage off the tee all day. Glad I can buy cheap balls with confidence I'm not missing out.

This is such a great project! The best analytical golf ball test I've ever seen. It made me realize that at 73 years old and 10 handicap I probably should move from the Pro V1 to the Callaway ERC Soft. Thanks again for this very useful information.
