I've seen you react to my comments so I'll try to recommend Lonely Day by System of a Down. It's sung by the guitarist with back up vocals from the lead singer.
That chorus wasn't exactly meant to be taken literally: "Everybody's going to the party" = all the countries that took part in the Iraq war. "Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine" = taking over the country by bombing the shit out of it.
Boy, this makes me feel old. I remember at the time the messaging was pretty on the nose: the sons and daughters of the poor are sent to die and kill in foreign wars over resources to serve the interests of the upper class. All the while they feed us "lies from the tablecloth" about what a great honor it is to serve... which is a lie because you serve a master that feeds you on scraps from the table and views your life as valueless... "and we don't live in a fascist nation." I could go on - "kneeling roses disappearing into Moses's dry mouth" comes across to me as a way of saying those who still mourn (kneeling roses) are destroyed in the middle east (Moses' dry mouth). This album came out in early 2005 - about two years after the start of the Iraq war and 3ish years after 9/11. The politics of the Global War on Terror was heavy. Sad to say I think most of what they have to say still rings true. Anyway, it's a great song, and folks can disagree about the politics but I will always remember how refreshing and off-kilter SOAD was in their prime.
Shit I never made that connection. My interpretation was that the song was kind of symbolizing how the US are fighting all these wars, sending their own people to their deaths while fighting unjust wars meant to fill the pockets of the politicians and upper class, while the general public pays no attention because they are distracted by material interests. Going to parties, pop music, the latest blockbuster films and buying all those designer clothes are occupying people's attention span while their less fortunate brothers and sisters are sent to fight meaningless wars. I should have looked at the words more carefully.
@@Module79L Yeah it makes a lot of sense. I guess I never actually sat down and looked at the whole lyrics and the words. I feel like I still got the same "Lesson" out of it though so no harm done :)
"Regardless of republican or democrat they're going to lie to get to the top. So you have to vote for who you believe is going to be the best, best version, from those liars" Never have I heard a shorter, better description of American politics summed up haha fr.
Sugar- System of a Down. Off their 1st studio album. Back when Serj actually used his amazing voice. Oh and when they were all on drugs lmao. It's a great song.
@Ela in his prime, he was absolutely one of the best. Spiders was fucking amazing, when the performed live on SNL, it was great. Like you said, that first album, his vocals were phenomenal
As a member of the military in 2003...once I heard this song I listened to it on my bicycle commute every day to work to keep things in perspective. You’re spot on DGibby.
If he liked chop suey he’s going to love BYOB. For your next reaction or a future one I’d like to see your react to “Rats” by Ghost. I’m sure you’d appreciate them and that song.
Everybody's going to the party have a real good time. Troops being sent out to fight our wars. Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine is pretty self explanatory. SOAD were ahead of their time
I like how you always research the song beforehand, and when you hear some instrumentation you like, you instantly check out who it is that's behind it to give them a shoutout.
Josh Alexander I know people who do nothing but listen to metal and they would agree with me that it’s underrated in the metal community because it’s really arguable due to the sound of the song. A lot of people I know turn the other way whenever someone says Aerials is metal they just consider it rock music
Great song choice! "Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine" paints a picture of a war taking place in the desert with the sun being blocked out by the air-born smoke, sand and dust from all of the fires and explosions. An upbeat song with a dark message!
D-GiBBY...I Love it...that you see the message in the music...n convey the positive n powerful feedback...this music makes me want to climb a mountain !!! Yeahhh 🤘🤘🤘🤘
my parents have a video of me singing this when I was 4 on the way to preschool, now I'm 18 and in college. It's awesome to see how much system has influenced my entire life and every time I see someone else enjoying this song I get a glimpse of 4 y/o me rockin' out! Love your channel!! You should react to some more Korn or "Soldier Side" by System! :)
I bet if i were to hang out with you for only a day, my depression would be completely gone. You're such and inspirational, motivational, and optimistic person!
You nailed it on the club scene man, that's the whole point they were trying to make. All the people in the clubs dancing and just trying to have a good time, but a war is happening, and people are dying and they were trying to bring the two together so people understand the fear and the loss. Also you mentioned that "someone was lying there's no snow in the dersert", that was a symbolic scene. The mention of the desert was talking about the physical location of the war in the middle east, and the snow as meant to symbolize the coldness of the action. I've watched a handful of your reactions so far, I think you're pretty awesome, and seem pretty genuine. Keep going man.
I was really big on SOAD a few years back (still think they're a phenomenal band, just have been checkin' out other stuff) And I've always interpreted the whole "Party" part of the song to be from the perspective of Presidents, Gunrunners, and anyone thats got any real power in a war. "Dancing in the desert" the battlefields of the middle east being the dancefloors. "Blowing up the sunshine" The smoke and debris from bombs and destruction covering up the skies, blowing up the sunshine as it hides it kind of like a cloud. The people in power are going to this "party", playing games, having fun, while the poor are sent down to act as pawns for wars which are just the "game" to the higher ups.
We would bump this song before every convoy in Iraq... After we got back inside the wire: Commander- how did it go? Soldiers- sir, you missed the party! Our way at throwing shade, low key, to the officers who never went outside the wire!!
BYOB here stands for Bring Your Own Bombs, as opposed to the regular Bring your own beer/booze. Song is describing (as far as I understand) the way that bigger countries see war against smaller ones a party (ref. "Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine") and likely refers to the Iranian-American war. Also there are other lyrics describing other things that are awful and unfair in war like the "Why do they always send the poor" referring to the fact that in some cases the humble farmers are the ones who die first and in other cases (USA) where the government offers something like a tuition.
Awwwwwww yeeeeeeeah, more SOAD! Lots of people requesting aerials, great song. Hypnotize, Dreaming, and Toxicity are probably their next most popular songs. If you like them changing up the tempo and vibe of the song you're gonna LOVE "Radio/Video" Don't see too many reactions to it unfortunately though.
The lyrics " dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine" is in reference to the nuclear testing out in the desert. The snow falling in the video is actually ash from the nuclear bombs

Keep exploring them they get better the more you listen to them.
Iraqi war was based on lies. Literally. Bush and Blair lied to justify it. This song is ofc amazing considering artistic value but at the same time it's a perfect commentary to actual events that costed so many lives. It has a true meaning. We don't have many songs like this nowadays. SOAD was special in this regard.

"Dancing in the desert Blowing up the sunshine" is a reference to war in the Middle east. This song basically denounces the Irak war that the US fought for decades

Gibby you should check out Nothing More - This is the time(ballast). Amazing band and song. You’ll love the drumming too. The singer used to be the drummer so he approaches his lyrical delivery with the drum parts in mind.
The best way to describe the video is it shows what's really happening (the marching) and the act of war (the party) but it's also saying we dont need it. "We dont live in a fascist nation" is him saying there's no need for war since we are supposed to be free.

I know I may just be a new member to the Gibby gang. But gibby is right we need to have more love and peace and just more love and kindness in this world. With one act of random kindness or with one Ark we can change this world. Extend this offer to all my brothers and sisters here and in the Gibby game. If any of you need somebody to talk to a shoulder to cry on or someone to vent your frustrations to I got your back and gibby this offer is also to you. Your new brother to the Gibby gang it's got your back I love each and everyone of you God bless you all
We can't just "have peace". It all starts with understanding why we don't. Love and peace is great, but until you divert your mind to the solutions to making a path towards it, or somehow as a whole nation, you must delve deep into the darkness. Open your mind, spread your non-bias knowledge and make an effort. Praying and wishing will get you nowhere. In most cases the ones who will accept your love and kindness are the ones who already have it in their hearts as well. It's a cruel and complicated society out there. To truly make change you must go into the uncharted.
I love this man, really enjoying it. Would love to see you react to Periphery. A lot of transitions like SOAD but a.... bit heavier lol. Anything from their 3rd or 4th studio album is the best!

First. Yes. That message should be screamed. 👍🏻✌🏻✊
