QUESTION - Have a question about farming or life on the farm? Drop it in the comments!
Matthias, aka HiTech Farmer, is a 5th generation family farmer from Southwest Minnesota who promotes agriculture by capturing it through the lens of a camera, one video at a time. Passionate about emerging farm technologies and the benefits of 21st-century precision agriculture tools, such as farm equipment, GPS, and autonomous tractors, Matthias is determined to bring new methods into his operation. These methods can improve his farm's efficiency and sustainability into the future. Learning from his parents' (Mike and Dawn) work ethic, Matthias sees every day as an opportunity to educate and entertain about the daily triumphs and challenges his farm faces, whether technology-related or not. His mission is to share his enthusiasm and knowledge of agriculture as he embarks on what it means to be a farmer in the modern era.

Perhaps you’ll be able to see my seeds entering the soil thru a livestream. Still need to see the cost of furrowvision

Hi Matthias! Great video, love your showing us how it works or doesn't! LOL. They need to keep it in the fields and not on the roads! 🤣

Appreciate it! It fascinates me how one field it’ll work exactly like I want and the next it’ll be nothing like I want

Great use of technology, just a little fine tuning. Have you any jobs on your farm where a fully autonomous tractor could add value and benefits. Greetings from Dundalk, Ireland.

Thanks! Absolutely we do. All of our tillage could be automated in a rather easy fashion. This would help with our labor in the fall especially

Is there an automatic GPS assisted up/down of the planter for those permanent obstacles in the field? Like the drains you had to stop for...
For rocks that have not been picked you might need some camera assisted system. And that is also hard cause of the dust that can be around. So probably something more sophisticated like lidar and radar with the capability of distinguishing rocks from soil. 🤔

Right now there isn’t an automated system when planting around/thru the field obstacles such as the tile intake. Similar to large rocks that are out in the field, I’m required to take control of the tractor and stop in order to move the rock out of the way to continue planting. Definitely two things that will need to worked out for full autonomy

Great video! How far can you go into the ditch when planting? Does the county have so much space you're supposed to keep? What's the purpose of the tile intake in the middle of the field? Is there a reason it's there rather than at the end of a field?

My goal is to plant from fencerow to fencerow of a field. There's different set back requirements depending on the road. A township gravel road is we usually have to stay back 30ft from the center. A large state highway can be between 50 and 90ft. It's required for traffic safety and allows space for utilities such as telephone poles and underground wires to be serviced without damaging a crop.
