  • The farm had 10 inches of rain in May, and the fields are not looking very good. The corn and soybean fields have several drowned-out regions where the stands are very thin. In today's video, we use the John Deere planter to begin filling in the drowned-out areas. It feels like a redundant job since we have already planted the fields once, but to optimize our fields, we planted more soybeans in areas where they were thin.
With more rain in the forecast, the newly planted soybeans may all drown out as well. Only time will tell if we wasted time and resources on replanting.

These methods can improve his farm's efficiency and sustainability into the future. Learning from his parents' (Mike and Dawn) work ethic, Matthias sees every day as an opportunity to educate and entertain about the daily triumphs and challenges his farm faces, whether technology-related or not.
