Matthias, aka HiTech Farmer, is a 5th generation family farmer from Southwest Minnesota who promotes agriculture by capturing it through the lens of a camera, one video at a time. Passionate about emerging farm technologies and the benefits of 21st-century precision agriculture tools, such as farm equipment, GPS, and autonomous tractors, Matthias is determined to bring new methods into his operation. These methods can improve his farm's efficiency and sustainability into the future. Learning from his parents' (Mike and Dawn) work ethic, Matthias sees every day as an opportunity to educate and entertain about the daily triumphs and challenges his farm faces, whether technology-related or not. His mission is to share his enthusiasm and knowledge of agriculture as he embarks on what it means to be a farmer in the modern era.
How do you think I can break the soil up more?
Spray it in the fall, work it in the spring. Will break up much easier. Field cultivator would also be my last choice. You need a soil finisher or a disk..
congratulations for getting new farm ground now you got new ground how many acres do you farm now??
your JD 9R tractor is really quiet when you drive it.
@@sweetfarmsllc8886 Yeah it was sprayed down last fall. I don’t own a disk, but you’re 100% right. That would really size the residue
@@zilla2006able4 acres more than before 😂
That was a lot of rocks!
Great video
Thanks!
So good to see folks getting in the fields again.
I'm ready for some planting videos. 😊
Soon Linda. I’m itching for those long days in the tractor again
That's handy having a test field. Good luck with the new season. Greetings from Dundalk, Ireland.
Thanks! Yes handy to try things out close first
I think you just wanted to drive the tractor lol 😂
😅🫣 maybe so
This is why every Farm should have a Disk. Not that you need to use it all of the time, but there are just Certain things that a Disk can do, that no other Farm Tool can. I also am a Fan of Soil Finishers instead of Field Cultivators if you can’t afford to have both a Soil Finisher or Field Cultivator. That one row of Disk Blades on a Soil Finisher can really make a Difference.
It wouldn’t hurt to give that Cultimulcher a try, I still can’t believe you said that you all try and use it to Break Up Headland Compaction, I don’t know how it would Breakup any Compaction on Fields.
Starting to think a small disk buried in my shed wouldn’t be all that bad. The culti-packer works good on small clods of dirt that get brought to the top of the soil. In this instance I’m not out anything giving it a try since it’s my only other option. Appreciate the input
@@HiTech_Farmer A 28’-33’ Disk that you can use on a FWA when needed for Ruts, Tile Lines, Etc, that and I still think they are not bad to use on Corn Stalks that are going to Beans the next year. Not much difference in a VT and a Disk and than a little bit of Gang Angle difference.
Yes, an older one would be just fine I'd think. As dry as its been, the gang angle wouldn't be a problem this year
Hi Mathias! Great video, that 9R sure is one beautiful piece of equipment! Looks like you need a great big rototiller to break up the sod! 😂
Yeah the 9R is a beaut. That’s essentially what I need, but a 40ft one
Have you ever tried no till? It would have been cool to try it in the sod instead of doing all that tillage. I understand seed to soil contact but you can still get great yields with no till especially in a dry year.
I can't say I've ever tried it. It would have been tough to plant into the sod because there were so many rocks and debris that needed to be picked up.
To be honest I would borrow a plow
Borrow a good heavy disk. It’ll be well worth the phone call.
You need a 5200 Salford
That would definitely help
What depth with you run the field cultivator this spring?
Corn seeding depth is 2" so we dig 3" and soybeans planting depth is 1-1.5" so we'll dig 2.5"
You need help? Hard work and country living is what a lot of peeps need right now
Appreciate the advice
SPEAKING FROM SOMEBODY WITH A LOT OF FARMING EXPERIENCE.......... A GOOD HEAVY CUTTING DISK WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER THAN A FIELD CULTIVATOR.
So I have learned. If I ever have some ground similar to this converting to farmland, I'll give a disk a try
