Are We Selling The Planter?
My family's farm started planting corn on April 21 and finished planting the last drowned-out spot on July 15. Our John Deere planter has handled 40% more acres this year compared to an average year on our farm due to all the replanting we have done. With all this extra work, maybe it's time for an upgrade? Watch today's video to find out what we decided to do with the planter.

Matthias, aka HiTech Farmer, is a 5th generation family farmer from Southwest Minnesota who promotes agriculture by capturing it through the lens of a camera, one video at a time. Passionate about emerging farm technologies and the benefits of 21st-century precision agriculture tools, such as farm equipment, GPS, and autonomous tractors, Matthias is determined to bring new methods into his operation. These methods can improve his farm's efficiency and sustainability into the future. Learning from his parents' (Mike and Dawn) work ethic, Matthias sees every day as an opportunity to educate and entertain about the daily triumphs and challenges his farm faces, whether technology-related or not. His mission is to share his enthusiasm and knowledge of agriculture as he embarks on what it means to be a farmer in the modern era.

The Last Time My Farm Will EVER Do This!
Переглядів 10 тис.19 годин тому
Today at the farm, we are attempting something my dad has never done before: planting soybeans into a standing corn crop. After enduring 15 inches of rain in June, we are forced to alter our crop plans as the growing season has passed its halfway point. No matter what happens from here on out, this will be the FINAL day planting of the year. Join us to see how this year's flooding continues to ...
We've NEVER Planted Soybeans This Late!
Переглядів 3,1 тис.День тому
Our farm is currently experiencing the wettest spring and summer in over 132 years! As a result, we're replanting parts of our fields that have drowned out for the THIRD TIME this season. With July in full swing, the soybeans we're planting now will likely serve more as a cover crop than a harvestable one. In today's video, discover why we chose to replant instead of leaving the soil barren and...
A GIANT 2,000 Pound Rock is in My Field!

A MASSIVE 2,000-pound rock appeared in one of our fields, and today, Dad and I embarked on a mission with the John Deere tractor to remove it from our cornfield. Initially daunted by its sheer size, we took a break to clear smaller rocks. Determined, Dad later resumed the challenge of moving the colossal rock. Stay tuned until the end to find out if we conquered this monumental task! ►Watch Mor...

The next day, I join Caleb, our custom applicator, to learn about the spraying technology and prepare for more mud challenges. Today's video demonstrates how this year's e...
How Do Farmers Afford Tractors?

HISTORIC FLOODING AT THE FARM - The Aftermath

After receiving 13.4 inches of rain in less than 5 days, the flooding has finally ceased at the farm. As the floodwaters recede, the full extent of the damage is becoming evident. It feels like a redundant job since we have already planted the fields once, but to optimize our fields, we planted more soybeans in...

    In this modern day and age, your statement that said after you pay off the loan term, you own the tractor simply is not true by design of the manufacturer. These new systems are software dependent. Software and firmware that must have their licences maintained and updated throughout the life of the tractor--- even after you paid it off. The tractor manufacturer "owns" the tractor and owns you. If you refuse to update and pay, it's killswitch engage via satellite or LTE cell phone tower. This is why there is a growing grassroots effort of farmers to remind congress that they are serving at the pleasure of the voters that feed and clothe America by enacting Right To Repair laws that will prevent manufacturers from forcing farmers to only use expensive dealers that are in the corporate chain...

    for those who think the power output isn’t alot, as a farmer, the engine’s are diesel and designed to make alot of torque, whilst a car making 600hp will probably make maybe 650nm of torque, a tractor at 600hp probably makes over 4000nm of torque, this is because tractors need to tow alot of mass, and also tractor’s engines only go up to around 2500rpm tops whilst a car running at 2500rpm will make alot less power than listed as it will only make the listed 600hp at maximum rpm, if a tractor’s engine could run at the same speed as a car engine it would make far more power

    • @OUTDOORS55
      @OUTDOORS55 15 годин тому

      Torque doesn't have anything to do with it. Power is torque x rpm. A high rpm engine can be geared down to produce more torque. Both engines in your example make the same power and the higher rpm engine will produce the same torque if you attach a gear box. The actual difference is tractor engines are constant power engines. Meaning they can produce the 600hp 100% of the time. A 600hp car engine can only produce 100% of the power for short periods of time. Thus the need for much larger engines and heavier parts/ cooling systems to handle the extra load for 100% constant power.

    • @legendaryarchie6512
      @legendaryarchie6512 15 годин тому

      @@OUTDOORS55 why are you arguing with me on this, all i said was that tractor engines are engineered to produce alot more torque despite producing the same power output

    I'm 30 and I don't know what generation of farmer I am. My dad died 9 years ago now of a heart attack, probably from the stress of all the payments and debt. I ended up having to sell almost all my equipment but I was able to get us out of debt from the first time ever and I didn't have to lose the farm. Ended up getting much older equipment, as in an Oliver that I found is a sad state of disrepair and fixing it up. I don't set any speed records or production records, but I can sleep at night like a baby. If I can, I will make whatever attachment I can from hay forks, to box scrapers, to tillage equipment. I've even modified loaders to fit older tractors that they weren't made for.

    A bushel is running about $4.50 a bushel, which is 54lbs. A little math means $1 is about 12 lbs of corn. So I'm guessing the two containers, I'm guessing that's close to 12 lbs.
