I remember the first time I went camping in the woods by myself, I had a very low budget and a strong will, so I shopped at garage sales and pawn shops for a few weeks and within a month, I had the main components I needed. Found a decent 20° sleeping bag for $5, 10x12 hd tarp for $15, AG russel bowie knife for $20, painters tarp for less than $10, memory foam mattress topper that I cut to use as a bed roll/ground pad for $15ish, a military surplus duffle bag with shoulder strap for $15. I had a blast and for the money I saved, I was impressed. Over the years I replaced all that with quality gear which has made camping more comfortable and enjoyable, but it sure can be done for cheap if you kniw how to shop.
That's amazing how you were able to start your camping journey with a low budget and resourcefulness! It's definitely possible to enjoy outdoor adventures without breaking the bank. Speaking of quality gear, have you heard about the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series? It's a versatile and durable power station with a massive capacity and fast recharging capabilities. It can be a reliable backup power source for your camping trips or even for home use. Check it out!
@@ARLGD I can't say I have, I have looked into the Jackyl and some others but I haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet, I'm also looking into solar chargers and such too but that's another rabbit hole to dive into lol. Only thing I did do for power wise is get a power converter added to my truck, since it has a 90 amp generator on it, it can power some necessities as needed.
Luke I have to say thank you! In the last 2 long years I have lost 6 close family members including my dad last year and my beautiful cat 2 days ago! Over that time your posts and videos have been the steady in my life! You keep with the same moral values that I respect so dearly! Now that I’m free of all my obligations my best friend and I are going to hike threw Ireland! Any one who has ideas on waterproof gear that I can purchase in Ireland would be awesome! Can I just say you have the most photogenic wildlife on your mountain!
I love your vlogs! When i was going through Chemo I lost about 50% of hearing in both ears, so I could no longer hear rain on the roof. I have always loved standing, walking, playing in the rain. Now, because of your vlogs I can always hear the rain! Thank You!
There's something I like about your outing videos that gets overlooked. Your gear is clean, but it's clear that it's not fresh out the factory. Just shows how authentic your videos are.
I grew up just east of Hendersonville so your videos make me homesick. Love the NC mountains. Married a girl from New Bern so I am stuck in the coastal plain. Used to sit on my grandma’s front porch and enjoy the mountain rains. Your tent and tarps sound somewhat like our tin roof. Good memories great fun.
This camping trips I dream of ! Camping during storms ! Man let me tell you , best relaxation and sleep you’ll ever get . Kick back maybe watch a movie on your phone and relax
Love the rainy videos I sleep like a baby outside in the rain.I would love to see some of the older redo's I've been following you for ever I remember how excited little Luke was when he 1st was successful lighting a fire with a fire steel.
Be glad for all of the rain. Here in Texas, it's so hot and dry, no rain forecasted here for the whole month of August! It's oppressive and it's taking a toll on the farmers, livestock, hay fields and everything. But we do what we can and pray for some relief. Enjoyed watching the adventure and as always looking forward to the next one!
A Quiet Place is exactly what was hoping for!! I just said to myself, "isn't there a channel with just the nature sounds, rain, coyotes without talking?". Helps relax at the end of the day.
I like camping in really bad weather. Tornadoes always fascinates me. Growed up in Kansas, alot of Tornadoes. Now in Tennessee, we see a few, but not as much. It's very dangerous camping in tornado weather, but I love it. I push things to far sometimes by camping under trees. Wouldn't suggest that to anyone. Way to dangerous. Myself, it's always enjoyable for me personally. I've studied Tornadoes all my life and know what to do if one decides to show up in the area I'm camping. Again, I don't advise anyone to do it unless you really know what your doing. I have fun around Tornadoes, heavy rain, hail, flooding, high winds, etc.... I'm 60. Learned alot about weather over the years. Bad weather makes me feel alive and full of energy. I don't drive, so things can really get interesting in a hurry when a strong storm shows up. I ride my mountain bike with everything I need to survive and have fun. Use to be homeless for about 5yrs. Learned alot about survival during that time, living in the woods. Since that time, I've studied and practiced camping and survival skills each time I go out into a location. Anyway, I say go for it! Go camping, but be prepared and smart about it. Most of all, be safe!!!
I will subscribe but I relax hearing you speak and you are a great teacher. Your muscles got bigger young man, looking good and healthy. Muss seeing your sweet lady and the kids. Hope all us good in your world and God bless everyone. 😊
I have camped with cheap tarps from Harbor Freight, 15 dollar hammocks from the big box stores, and inexpensive sleeping bags. It would be great to have all the fancy expensive gear you and other big name UA-camrs have, but you can get out cheap. I usually do it on the cheap.
Oh my goodness it looks swampy there! If I'd know the heavy rain sound was in this video ..I wouldn't have gotten so cozy in my recliner...found myself with eyes closed just listening to you and the rain! But yeah we got a Jeep Patriot couple years ago to car camp in case we were fishing and decided to stay overnight at last minute! We totally recommend doing this folks! Some of our best trips ..have been car camping! And love your new channel btw!!
cheap camping like back when i was a teenager and biker. still a biker. we used to go out on bike with a tarp. cover the bikes with the tarp and sleep under it. no sleeping bags, no sleeping mats. just the tarp. life's full of good stuff if you just go out the front door. thanks Luke.
These camping videos are great. I like the tundras trucks. I have a 2010 crew max tundra with 293000 miles on it right now. It still runs and drives like a new truck. Everything works on it . Thank you for sharing your camping videos.
The fact people pay for an app to give them this same experience is unbelievable. The sound of rain on a tent or a tin roof is so soothing.❤ Just going to say as a 52 yr old lady you have inspired me to go camping this October. Sir please try red hot sausages with cheese and a little mayo or mustard for breakfast on some sliced bread. We always eat steak with mushrooms and onions and some premade (mine) potato salad and maybe some corn on the cob.
Luke you keep it real man, your the kinda guy that doesn’t have to use brand new pots and pans on every video .As a double amputee I enjoy you taking these awesome outings so we can enjoy.
We live at the edge of town so we see a lot of wildlife. We have deer families passing thru & one that's made a nest in our back yard to sleep in. We always open the front door & they're right there eating the roses. They don't move till you do. Then there's the families of racoons & skunks. Lastly, coyotes pass thru our neighborhood seeking prey. We did have a neighborhood of bunnies and stray cats, but no more. We leave our cat in a lot on account of the coyotes. We actually had less wildlife 30 yrs ago than we do now. They come down from the hills I'm assuming because they've eaten all their food so we have a Facebook community watch that reports when coyotes are present.
I love to watch your videos it brings back old memories when I was younger doing all the camping, fishing, and Deer hunting. Seeing all the wildlife. At night setting at the campfire raccoons would come up I would throw them food oh how I loved it. The only thing you need is a dog I always had my best friend with me my trusted Collie Lassie.
I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe / Z71 and I go trick camping, the lates one I gone to was at South Lake Tahoe winter camping, I just beat the winter storm that closed interstate 50 just by hours.. I was out there go 4 days and 3 nights..
You need to rainX all of your windows it will improve your vision on the road tenfold. And you will be able to see out of the camper/cap windows in the rain. And if you want to get into camping and not spend a ton of money, garage sales are a great place to start. I still buy some used items when the prices are good. Last white gas Colman gas stove I bought was only $10 and looked like it might have been used once. I picked up a tent and 2 cotts for less than $150 for my daughter, well I found them she paid for them. You just need to keep your eyes open for deals.
The problem with watching your videos is that I end up adding hundreds of dollars of gear to my Amazon account...probably most of which I don't need but I want it! It doesn’t have to be a lot, a couple handfuls of kindling and a few split logs to add once the kindling does its job. hello luke. you are the first i ever watched camping. i always liked when your wife is camping too. i love the adventures you share, tips and relevant knowledge.since becoming interested in camping i wished to go but being handicapped confined to a wheelchair; well it seems impossible. well i like "a quiet place" cause i don't always want o hear talking
I do something like your tarp setup but with an actual tarp, wood poles of various lengths, baling twine and gutter spikes with washers to keep the rope tied on. I use pool noodles cutdown with my jig saw and a single splice down the middle. It allows me to put them on the tarp string so you don’t accidentally trip over it. The poles have a screw on one end that you can hook the tarp grommets over. I’ve used 20’ x 16’ tarps and once at the beach, my ex helped me set up the tarp down the side of the converted horse trailer and an additional tarp at the back of the trailer. I then used carabiners to connect the two tarps. It was a stormy weekend and I had a lot of company under those two tarps. We had moved the fire ring to the edge of the tarp so it was cozy. It was the first weekend out with my new solar panel on top and with the rain I had to use my generator a lot. I put tarps over the stalls for the horses utilizing shorter tarp poles, duct tape and baling twine. Lol. I have camped in the back of my truck using a double mattress from home and later a taller cot then you have here. I have a smallish porta poti that came with a nice cover. I used it as a night stand and a place for Mr Heater to warm it up quickly in the morning. I put a rug on the floor of the truck bed and taped “curtains “ to the windows. It made getting dressed difficult with limited headroom so now the cot is in the front bedroom in my horse trailer. The cot is tall enough to store bins underneath and I have a dresser in the nose of my bumper pull bedroom.
Living in the Piedmont of NC I do not know how you can say it has been cooler this year. I would say it has been hotter than heck! I am so tired of sweating and more than ready for fall!!!
I used to think the ASMR stuff was stupid, but I have to tell you in August, in Dallas Texas, when the heat index is still in the high 90's at 2AM, falling asleep with (what I imagine is cool) rain in the background is really nice! Keep making your videos brother.
Today's pickup truck becomes yesterday's Conestoga wagon. Well done, Luke! Based on your reviews I purchased two Nitecore NB10000 Energy Bricks and two SmartDevil fans for use at my Skeet field in hot & humid south Florida and couldn't be happier with their performance. Great products, great values. Thanks, Luke!
Definitely a peaceful camp ... Coffee sounds great ,what brand ,or a personal blend ?? .. Trail cam video is awesome ,, love seeing wildlife in it's own habitat ..

Nothing is more better than hear the rain natural beautiful I like your videos for that. Thank you for sharing.❤️
There's something I like about your outing videos that gets overlooked. Your gear is clean, but it's clear that it's not fresh out the factory. Just shows how authentic your videos are.
Luke I love it when you include trail cam footage. Seeing the animals really adds to the outdoor experience.
Love watching your videos. Very relaxing.
I had a 83 GMC 3/4TON I camped the same way for six or seven years the best time I ever had,👍👍👍
We need 10 hours of The OutdoorGearReview in rain :)
The trail cam footage was a real treat. Thanks Luke!

That was a wet one ...nice fire, always a calming effect.

I bought one of those fans. Game changer when tent camping. Best buy for off grid explorer!
Hi Luk hi Suzy Thankyou for you lovely videos Godbless 🎉🎉
I'm in Texas and would LOVE 66 degrees and pouring rain! Great video as always!
I must say I like Tony and Bruno ab camping ❤
This is king video and during rain to camp best idea for upgrading

Excellent video's 👍. Love watching your adventures.
Enjoyed watching u cook!
Loving the ASMR here. Ty so much.
The cinematic picture quality of your videos is stunning Luke, i love how clean and pristine the picture is 👌
For me, I love your commentary. I really don’t care for ASMR at all. I’ll happily keep on with this channel.
Luke you keep it real man, your the kinda guy that doesn’t have to use brand new pots and pans on every video .As a double amputee I enjoy you taking these awesome outings so we can enjoy.
Adds to the flavour!
Bears Bobcats Coyotes lol😂
Didn't see one (1) yeah that's keeping it real.... Clowns 🤡🤡

Great video Luke! Love the ASMR in this one..keep up the good work!
You’re a good eater, Luke. You love everything. 😊
Man, trail cams are awesome.
Just loved the rain ❤
I always use thunderstorm videos to relax. And rain on a tent is very relaxing too. Great to hear you will start this new chanel 😁
Awesome to see you out in the rain. It was a very peaceful episode. Great video as always Luke. All the best, Jono 👍🙂⛰️🌲
Love the trail cams. You have such a variety of wildlife there. The fawns were precious. 😊

Thank You Luke For Sharing Us All In Your Adventures Awesome Camp Set Up. ❤😂❤😂
Super excited about the new channel.
My peaceful relaxation happens when I listen to the rain fall on a tarp....sooooo nice.
We love all of your videos. Thank you
I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe / Z71 and I go trick camping, the lates one I gone to was at South Lake Tahoe winter camping, I just beat the winter storm that closed interstate 50 just by hours.. I was out there go 4 days and 3 nights..
Love listening to the rain it's so soothing
Hello Luke, that is a giganic tarp,, I love it!!! awesome rain. thank you for sharing...
Thank you for the video, and I'm looking forward to the new channel as well.
I'll absolutely subscribe!! I still like listening to these stories!!
Popular spot amongst the locals..very nice
Thanks Luke I'll check it out
Thank you for you honesty!!!!!
Hey Luke, I see you have a lot of rain, I really like the Tarp it keeps you dry
The problem with watching your videos is that I end up adding hundreds of dollars of gear to my Amazon account...probably most of which I don't need but I want it! Also Luke it's amazing how well you set up all of your shots. You are constantly changing angles which has to be super time consuming to film. I appreciate the efforts that you put into your videos...they are much more engaging that way!
You sir, have an awesome picture!
Go Bruins!!!
I really enjoy your channel every time I watch a video I feel like I'm out camping myself
Here is a suggestion for those who are vehicle camping and want to have a fire, you can bring just enough to get the fire started real good.
It doesn’t have to be a lot, a couple handfuls of kindling and a few split logs to add once the kindling does its job. Once the fire is going good, then you can take the time to search for more dryish wood in the forest or brush around you.
The amount of dry firewood you bring depends on how much room you can spare in the trunk of your vehicle, there is always enough nooks and crannies to tuck a few armloads of split firewood.
I love the Stormy Weather Truck camp adventures.
Luke never disappoints
hello luke. you are the first i ever watched camping. i always liked when your wife is camping too. i love the adventures you share, tips and relevant knowledge.since becoming interested in camping i wished to go but being handicapped confined to a wheelchair; well it seems impossible. well i like "a quiet place" cause i don't always want o hear talking
I love your videos. Nice and relaxing, informative and enjoyable but please stop burning your coffee ☕️ 😉
I think it is nice to camp out in the rain
Living in the Piedmont of NC I do not know how you can say it has been cooler this year. I would say it has been hotter than heck! I am so tired of sweating and more than ready for fall!!!
My friend love camping she takes her Camry every were and hike to she an outside person love these videos
Another great video, thanks as always for taking us along😎
❤ I checked out the Quiet Place, loved it. I love watching your channel. Keep up the good work.
You are the only gear reviewer I can trust for the truth!!!!!!!!
Awesome Brother! I'll follow you on any adventure!
Love the sound of rain. We have a metal roof on our place and when it opens up it rattles your bones!
OH JEE it's Luke and it's raining on him!!! How unique...
I used to think the ASMR stuff was stupid, but I have to tell you in August, in Dallas Texas, when the heat index is still in the high 90's at 2AM, falling asleep with (what I imagine is cool) rain in the background is really nice! Keep making your videos brother.
I checked out and subscribed to a Quiet Place. It is nice and peaceful, but I like hearing you ralk about things.
