Hi Luke, about a year ago we decided to invest in a newer up to date tent and bought out firsts DoD tent and retired the old one. After getting set up and later turning in radar indicated light rain and since we were in the new tent, we were not worried about waking up wet again. By 4:30am we woke up to all our blankets and clothes being soaked and couldn't for the life understand why. Later that same morning we took a closer look and found not 1. not 2. but 3 spots where it had leaked in. One by the door, the 2nd below the center of the dome. And the third closer to the lower lefthand side Basically, we were soaked and had to retreat to the comforts of the truck bed the following night since the tent didn't do its job. Since then, we went back to using the old tent from Colman with No problems after buying a can of rain guard. The place that we purchased the DoD tent refused to refund our money, so we decided to stay clear of their products ever since.

What really sucks is that families could be endangering little ones to cold wet/elements out in the wood without knowing about it 😢 Always Always Set Your tent up and check it against the elements before taking your kids out in it!!Again, Thanks for the Post 👍🏼👍🏼

Like I said in your last video, because of that storm flap around the door alone I would not purchase this tent. This is why we all watch you Luke, we appreciate your honesty. Other UA-camrs who get products to give the company a positive review they wouldn't even test it they would simply unbox it a tell the viewers it is a great tent. Your agenda free is money in the bank for all of us who follow your channel.

I'm past the age of camping in a tent. I still have an old canvas and a newer nylon one but I tell you the 20' fiberglass camper that is fully equipped is great for a 73 year old man with arthritis, etc.. These videos Luke are fun to watch and I've seen all of them. Take care my friend.

Hi Luke. I'm a hammock camper now, but I have slept in lots of leaky tents. My advice for anyone stuck in a wet tent is to protect your sleeping bag at any cost. Even if you have to pack it in its stuff sack and sit the weather out in your raincoat. Do not roll over and go back to sleep. When you get home, you can use the tent for backyard fun. It may sound crazy but if your bathtub tent floor is really a tub full of water, drive an extra tent stake into the ground right through that expensive floor. Wiggle it around a bit and the water will drain into the ground as long as you are not camped in a depression where water is pooling. Maybe it's just me, but I think tent floors are highly overrated except for discouraging bugs.

Just have a tarp over the tent and you're good to go. I understand why he does these videos but I would never trust a tent to be 100 percent waterproof. Hang a tarp over the tent and you'll never had to worry about it leaking.

Thanks again for a thorough review Luke, this tent is a definite ‘Do Not Buy’ in it’s current form. As for that woman who blamed her kids’ bad behavior on your video, these ‘Non-Parents’ are very common, blaming their children’s lack of discipline on anybody but themselves. You see them in WalMart letting their kids run around knocking stuff off shelves till they fall and hit their head on something, then they sue WalMart for not putting wild animal bumpers on everything. Keep the vids commin’!!

😂😂i discipline my son everyday they ain't gonna change overnight. he was a horror show today. Maybe it's time to grow up and stop thinking that people don't discipline their kids just because they act bad😂 just like you say about these non-parents... Don't speak on something you've never been through. 😂 Don't you think you should take your own advice? I discipline my son every single day. And he's just getting worse. Some kids are more stubborn be thankful that your kids weren't. By the way if you do discipline your kids or teach them a certain way it's up to the kids to keep that or change to what they want to do.

Hi Luke as a fellow North Carolinian I often recognize many of the places and trails that you haunt. My suggestion to you is create a sub channel of the sounds of the rain and wind that you record while camping. I use the different channels already on UA-cam to help me sleep but yours are real not just simulated white noise. Just a suggestion. I can’t get out on the trails anymore like I once did due the hectic work schedules.

Field recording is AWESOME! Also, it doesn’t have to be in a “field.” It can be at a the crest of a hill, deep in some holler. Yet, it could be at a bus stop listening to the cacophonous sounds of the city. Both can be helpful to remove yourself from whatever world you wake up in.

My best night sleep ever was hanging in my hammock during a nasty NW Kansas storm 😁 The first few loud cracks of thunder were jolting..but that too faded as a factor after the gentle swaying rocked me to Dreamland. That said..I really wanted this tent to do better. Bad experiences with bendy pole tents has made me leery of them all.

Luke you talking about being out in a storm. About 15 years ago I had put my boat in the water the sky’s looked menacing. Big black and grey clouds rolling in the sky’s. I got just out of the river when the sky’s opened up! Lightning, thunder piles of rain. I had put all the storm canopies on just before the sky’s opened up. It rained so hard there was a sheet of water running off my boat an inch or more. I was just Idling. Driving by my GPS. The rain lasted about two hours. Rest of the day was fantastic.

From then on I tarped my tent all the way around. I used long sticks and bungie cords. I was always bone dry. I mostly camped in state parks solo with my dog. My tent is a Coleman Instant Tent. I alway have a double high queen bed, a chair with a side table and a porta potty in there. I was always very comfortable.

I love that whirring sound of the wind. We don't get much of it here where I live in suburbia. But, on the occasions we do get any decent winter wind, I can set up some interesting harmonics as it blow through and around the meter pipe awning frame on the front of my house. And, if I don't have my windows clamped down tightly and locked, I can get some neat moans and whistles there too. But, my most favorite of wind sounds is the whirring sound at the beginning of the video. Simple pleasures.

If your cabin trailer is to be semi permanent, I would either remove your wheels and store them ( a security measure against theft) and put the trailer on blocks. Alternatively, at least protect the tires from sun rot and cracking. Since you are located at the top of a mountain with little protection from wind, I would consider anchoring the trailer with cable. Use anchor posts or concrete blocks buried in the ground. You could anchor just the frame or go over the roof of the trailer with a 2x4 to protect it from the cable. I doubt the trailer body would survive hurricane strength winds in any case.

To better capture the moisture on camera, try laying down a dry piece of colored construction paper over the puddles or drips where the water is present on the floor, or press it against the walls of the tent. We'll be able to see the discolored water spots on the paper more clearly that you simply pointing your camera and flashlight at the water. Thanks again for doing what you do.

I have very much enjoyed your videos and their educational value. Having not camped since Boy Scouts, a video of how you dry out all these expanses of soaked fabric so the tents and tarps remain usable and non-moldy would be very valuable. I have the duty of prepping for my whole extended family.

Idk if it helps, but I dried mine out in the utility... room. (not sure what it's called lol it's a room at the back of our garage that has a sink and a drain but it's an actual separate building, just tacked on at the back.) It's where I keep my camping stuff and hubby keeps the gardening stuff. It's big enough for the pop up tent I've got currently. Just bought a new bigger 'family size' tent. Waiting for it to arrive, and can't wait to get using it. I miss camping... (hubby's not a big fan 😕 but he didn't grow up with it like I did...)

2 for 2 leaks great to know I won't be purchasing this piece of garbage. I'm a long time subscriber and I very much appreciate your honest and agenda free reviews.
I have purchased several pieces of gear based on your reviews Luke, one of my favorite being my snugpak scorpion 3, 4 season tent. I absolutely love that tent foe car camping or short distance backpacking ( it's a bit heavy for long distance hiking ) it is absolutely bomb proof and I have used it in all 4 seasons. Another piece of gear that I purchased on your quality review/recommendation was my 10x10 aquaquest tarp. I love that tarp it is my go to for summer, spring and fall backpacking shelter. My aquaquest tarp is yet another great piece of bomb proof gear that I purchased based on your reviews and I have been completely happy with my purchase for several years now.
I have come to rely greatly on gear reviews that you do because I know that I can trust they will be honest and fair and true regardless of the outcome. Don't ever change Luke you are a credit and a blessing to the camping /backpacking /prepper community.

I have had leaks (other brands) where the pull outs go under the seam tape. Somehow water would wick through. Generous seam seal (including the wicking pull outs) was the fix, but you have to keep an eye on it over the seasons. If that was your only shelter and your sleep gear got wet, followed by freezing conditions, it could be disastrous!
