Thank you for taking me on a cowboy camp. I'm a senior with arthritis problems and use a cane. This is an awesome way to get a bit of nature. Thank you, Luke.

Luke, I’m an OTR trucker and I just can’t get out into the woods much anymore. Maybe twice a year if I’m lucky. I love watching your videos, because after a long day of driving you bring me to the forest, light a fire, and sit down and chat with me. Your cinematography is beautiful, and sometimes I forget that I’m not actually there. I thank you for bringing us along with you. That being said, if you ever get a chance to camp in northern Idaho or Washington state, I would highly recommend the experience. There are so many beautiful places out west that I’ve seen, and so far the Pacific Northwest has stolen my heart. Anyways, thank you for the adventures, and I look forward to the next!

I have to say this one about put me to sleep. Not because it was boring, because they never are, but the sound of the wind with the crackling of the fire, was absolutely relaxing. You should do a 4-8 hr video of just that.

I’m a sucker for surplus gear. Priced right and pretty durable. I did my first cowboy camp in a USMC surplus bivy bag earlier this summer. I went to the Tail of the Dragon on my motorcycle. The weather was clear so just the bivy, sleeping bag and pad.

Not sure if you know this or not but those tarps are designed to snap together to make a larger tent for two battle buddies or you can snap the single tarp together and use as a sleeping bag bivy cover. I’ve used it like that many times during my annual AT while I was in the army

Another very enjoyable video with great content! I had a similar problem with a speeding ticket in Austin, Texas. “The speed camera never lies” the guy told me and it was my corvette going 45 mph over the limit. Except I don’t have a corvette nor have I ever been to Austin. It took four or five phone calls to get the guy in El Paso to actually look into it. A true cluster all the way around! And it is a racket… small lcities can install two or three cameras on busy streets and pretty much pay a big share of their police budget.

Stick a small piece of cardboard in the middle and we cooked with that! Makes a great fire starter just make sure you take the empty can out with you. Worked great.

Great video Luke. Your story about you guys being charged for the stuff in DC. Be careful. Could be someone stole your identity.
You and Susie along with your viewers should freeze your credit. My wife and I keep our credit frozen then unfreeze when buying a car, getting loan etc. We then freeze it after. Keeps anyone from trying to use your identity to purchase things that require credit checks. I highly suggest you guys do this as added protection.

Enjoy your hiking and camping videos the most. Last time I camped out in the woods I was 15 years old , I just turned 58 . Worked all my life telling myself gonna go camping next month then next month and next month never got here . Then one day you wake up 50 years old and arthritis and scoliosis have taken over and you can't walk very far at the time .what I would give to be able to sit by a campfire out in the woods one more time. But at least I get to enjoy the experience thru your videos they are much appreciated you subscriber and follower here in n.c. ...later jimmy.

@Luke. Around 29:00 you mentioned soldiers who are exiting the military and want to camping but they don’t know how to set up a tarp shelter.
That’s a 100% true. For the last 20 plus years the US Army focused so much attention to GWOT, that field crafting was put to the wayside. Fortunately, I had some prior Boy Scout training to help me out and we did learn a little about shelter building 20 years ago.
However many of the younger soldiers I work with do not know how to setup a one man tent or tie simple knots. That may sound strange but it’s true.

Hey Luke, I had something similar when I lived in Connecticut. Got a new car, turned in the old plates at the DMV in Norwalk, CT who are supposed to destroy them. Remembered the lady & everything. About...2 months or so, start getting letters on toll charges over the bridges in NYC (which we all know isn't cheap!). Brought a copy of the letter down to the DMV, same lady. I told her my plates were supposed to be destroyed (it was a special vanity plate with a Star Wars name on it) and wasn't. She said it would be taken care of. I also called the number on the letter and told them I no longer had those plates, they were turned in, yada, yada, yada. They dropped the charges. Like my aunt always said, tear your plates in half when turning them in.

Luke, matches, when you use book matches, it’s easier to strike the match with the match between the book flap and the strike strip. Put the match between the strike plate and the flap, pinch the match head against the strike plate and pull it across the plate.

The "info card" in the MRE is a sleeve, intended to be placed around the outside of the flameless ration heater so it can be handled while it's all heating up and after it gets hot, and it provides a surface under which to tuck in the top of the opened FRH. WRT the cheese, don't put it directly in the FRH with the main, but keep it on the outside. If it heats up too much, it will split with the fat leaking out of the emulsion. It will also help to knead the cheese before heating it up. As for the nutrition information, since it is a federal law that all foods produced or sold in the US must have that nutritional information panel on them, the sleeve is a logical place to print it.

I can see why folks love tarps. I like em too. For me, a tarp is just not enough of a shelter for a camping trip. I want a TENT. I wanna crawl in there, or walk in there, and KNOW that there are not going to be creepy crawly things, or flying little insect pilots zooming around, or anything else. I gotta HAVE a tent, with a sewn in floor, and mosquito netting doors. For me, a tarp is something that you put OVER the tent, or a way for me to make a cabana.... for me to sit under.... out of the Sun. That being said, I like all your vids and you ARE the Jeremiah Johnson of youtube, player. You have flat out PROVEN that you are an outdoorsman on social media, and thanks for the vids. Explore that A frame; I am telling ya it can not be beat. The A frame tent is so time tested and proven that it is simply the best tent to carry in a backpack.

Great adventure Luke, as always, much appreciated. It brought back memories of my younger days. While stationed in Kodiak, AK I went on an overnight hunt with a friend. We hiked halfway up Barometer Mt to camp and then hunt the next day. We were above the tree line but there were shrubs. I had my gear and a survival tarp and he had all his gear minus the tarp. He laughed because it wasn't supposed to rain. But I knew in the morning we would be covered in dew. Morning came and I was dry. Him? Not so lucky. Tarps make all the difference when set up right.
Stay safe and God bless. I will be heading out to your corner of the state in a little while. Save me some cool temps.

Luke after doing some reaearch it looks like the lite sleeper liner that you used was designed to use the thermorest matterass as issued to troops in the pocket. The snugpak air matterass you show in the video is probably why you were shorted in width for cover. Since on the manufacturers website it shows a issue thermarest in the pocket. The snug pak apparently is to thick per say for the liner. Also i have to agree that a zipper would be a great upgrade to it

I am having trouble with the overload of info on packing gear to use for 2023/2024 camping. Could you make a 2023/2024 video of "must-have" gear that is current and concise? I plan on starting the AT in Virginia this October/November/December months. A simple list of what I should have would be so awesome! Even if you share your current list of gear? Consider making a short video each month of just a simple list of items to get or own? We are neighbors (NC/VA)! Thanks again!
My first packing trip will be the Capital City Trail between Williamsburg and Richmond. An easy, predictable hike since I have ridden it many times on bike. And, would help me to get my hiking legs up to speed. Thanks again!

I told them to check with the bank I paid it to, and they simply said "I'm sorry, we don't do that." I visited my congressman's office and 3 weeks later they sent a profuse apology to my congressman, but nothing to me. I never vote for more government.

I am so glad you disputed those charges and stuck by your guns, Luke. Too many people would just pay the money! I work for a law firm that helps people protest the annual assessment of their real property . Every year the State raises its assessment of your property value, so they can charge higher and higher taxes on your land. If you don't file a protest, you have to pay higher property taxes. It's wrong! And if you just calmly stand by and allow it to happen, the State will continue to take more and more money out of your pocket . Don't keep allowing this happen! We should all protest our property assessments every year, to keep our property taxes down where they should be. It's easy to do. And it work. Okay, rant over now. :)

Luke I feel you when it comes to false stuff from the government. I've had to deal with things like that multiple times in my life.
As for the gortex Navy jacket, I got to keep mine when I retired and I still use it.

Hey Luke. I’d like to share with you a field expedient heat tab. 1 package of MRE Peanut Butter and bug repellent. Cut peanut butter package open and leave peanut butter in the aluminum package. Open Bug Repellent and pour into a trough in the peanut butter. Mix together and light. Not toxic.

Feeling that Florida comment 😂. There is some cool stuff there, but that heat and humidity makes it a place I’d never want to live.

I also had the same story about a parking violation in Milwaukee. Never been there in my life. Went to collections too. We finally contacted the mayor’s office and what do you know, the parking violation was dropped. We are not going to be intimidated into paying something we don’t owe, ever.
