Cold weather camping is the best. No mosquitoes , ticks or yellow flies. No snakes. Nature is yours for the most part. Having a fire to keep warm instead of sweating around. Makes it feel more like survival than camping.
@@angel19642001 I was just going to say the same thing. Ticks don't appear out of thin air in the spring. They live under the leaves in the winter, heated by rotting leaf matter and insulated from sub-freezing temperatures by the snowpack. They have a type of antifreeze in their blood.

I don't remember seeing that kettle before he reviewed it, and he said he tested it for a couple months. My guess would be that the last couple camping videos were shot before the review, and there will likely be a few more with that kettle. He probably keeps a backlog of camping videos in case life doesn't allow him to get out in the forest for a while A review would be relatively simple to shoot and edit. A video like this would take a ton of time, which of course isn't always going to be available.
I dislike those channels that unbox an item, maybe used once, give a review about how amazing the item is (including a discount code) and then you never ever have a follow-up on how the product really performs over time. I've stopped following those channels. I prefer your approach of initial impressions, first tests, then if required review after multiple uses. It's a good honest approach.
I literally watch your videos to learn outdoor skills and what resources and tools to use. Good content and not many out there can compare. Least from my point of view.
Thank you for this video. Looks like you found a very interesting campsite after a walk in that took you through some exceptionally beautiful terrain. I agree that wind is the one hazard that scares me most. When the wind is high, you can stay out in the open and hope that the wind chill does not get you, or you can huddle in the forest and hope that 60-foot tall, 18" tree does not blow over onto you.
I really like your videos. You're a pleasant person, knowledgeable and down to earth. I've learned a lot from you. Thanks for sharing your adventures. 👍
Love your videos Luke. ❤ However, this is the first time I ran to adjust the colour on my tv! I would love to have a jacket in that burnt orange colour, but was disappointed to find it was supposed to be coyote brown. I’ll just put my sunglasses back on 😎 and watch the rest of the video.

Great channel Luke... I really appreciate your content...as well as Paul's. You and Paul have saved your viewers alot of money and frustration reviewing products. Thank you both.
Around here, the pine trees are the opposite of protection in winds. Shallow root system,..fragile species = lots of widow makers. In some local parks, they shut down for that reason. You can tell by how things look in a forest. Some trees actually drop branches in large numbers on purpose as a defense mechanism against competition from other vegetation below. It'll look like a war zone underneath, lol. Just throwing that out for those interested in such things. Another good one here. I'm sure you inspire a lot of folks to head outdoors. Cheers. 👍
This was my first thought as well. Trees here don't make good shelters. We just got some trees removed from near our house because they were dropping large limbs on the house and caused damage to the roof. I would not want that near a tent.
@@saragruber1019 Really good idea to clear them away from your property. Around here,...seems every year someone has a giant pine crash through their home. And yes,..people have lost their lives. It doesn't take much wind either when the soil is heavily saturated from rain. Cheers.

Nice! Back from a winter hike myself here in Norway. 50cm snow, temp around minus 8 day time, and 10 during the night + wind. The sledge/pulk weight was around 30kg. Ok, so the thing with Paul that I dont respect. I saw him once when he presented "whats in my backpack", on his livingroom floor, and he got all gased/out of breath, even redfaced and sweet. Just by sitting on the floor. I believe that we who promote the outdoors also should be rolemodels. Not in Olympic shape, but at least be able to talk effortless through a presentation or a gear review. Another guy (also an old UK/Scott tuber), got out of breath when pitching a tent and was breathing so heavy into the mic at the end that is was akward. You Luke, seems to take care of yourself. Respect. Another thing many people dont realize is that, even on the shortest hike, things can go wrong and you need to move/be physical. Or real simple, hiking is easier when you have basic conditioning.
I have been a hunter for 20 years and I love the outdoors. I’ve only went camping a few times. I’ve always wanted to get into it. More Seriously just never did): over the years but of the hunting I’ve been caught in serious weather. Some cases lightning or 70 to 80mph winds in the woods where trees could come down at any moment I’ve been in tornado warnings to snowstorms all in the same day or on separate occasions I’ve been in tropical storms or low level hurricanes. In the outdoors when I lived in Florida I have experienced a lot of what nature has to offer But I’ve never got to experience the camping aspect a few times And I’ve always been quite interested in what you do. I watch a lot of camping people. But you are by far my favorite. And I truly mean that. Watch a lot of UA-cam channels. And I can’t sell out my friends/ co UA-camrs. But your videos are the perfect before bed. Always have been. Hi Luke yet another good post, it was interesting to see you using that Ridge monkey kettle which you slated a few weeks back, the one you wouldn't recommend to anyone, you know the one with the small filler! you had no trouble pouring your water in through that small hole from your bottle. then that small spout! looks like you had a very controlled pour there! you had no trouble with water level as you poured enough water in for 2 cups, the other thing was you said about was the water spilling out as you poured, no sign of it there and you had filled the kettle up. the only other thing you said was about the lid slipping inside the kettle, yes i will give you that, if you don't use that free space! with mine i put my packs of coffee, powdered milk, sugar, and packets of hot chocolate, the lid doesn't fall in then and you utilised that free space. so maybe as it is not an American product it is not as bad as you made out?
Really enjoying the channel, Thank you. In the UK and Europe, the small ice particles that fell initially are known as Graupel- its dry ,smallish, and rolls away easily. Sleet, to us, is wet snow falling or mixed rain and snow, which sticks and dissolves wet.
Happy New Year to your family and you. Coldest our scout troop camped in was -10F. Canvas tents and was a learning experience for sure. Then we had a great team of adults - all vets from WW2. So it wasn't too bad, they had winter weather camping skills. Thank you for the video. God Bless to everyone.

The colours in this woodland are amazing 😊
Фильтр камеры потрясающий 🙄
To your Daughter...THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
Love your cold weather camping videos. Best wishes for the new year.
Thanks for the years of great content and helping me and my family become better campers.
For a avid lover of the outdoors, your videos are exceptionally clean, clear and clarity unreal, I feel like I'm right there with you. You do a great job and should be commended for your work! By the way, I love that red in your beard, it's unusual but it's so cool...my hair is red so Cheers to you!
Red hair and the outdoor life seem to go together. I have seen lots of gingers and chestnut haired people on the Appalachian Trail over the years.
I love this channel, your very good in what you do.
Like you said the weather is unprectable
I live in Nova Scotia Canada,it's the same here.
I'm leaving for Prince Edward Islandon the 29th of December to visit my son.Im hoping the weather will co operate.
Thanks for being honest and showing your set up
I’ve always been curious…why do you hang your tarp so far from your tent?
He hangs out under the tarp to cook and talk. Plus it's not good to cook around your tent in case of bears or mountain lions.
Great Video, very informative,, I love camping and I’m 70 now,
Don Shipley is a legend, love his channel!
Who is this Don Shipley guy you guys are going on about??? 😂
Cheers.
Huge points sticking up for Paul.
Thanks Luke👍👍. So jealous right now.......Since Christmas, we have been suffering thru the worst heatwave in years. Average temps in the high 30's Celcius (over 100°F) and humidity in the 90's 🔥🔥🥵🥵 Just watching this vid cooled me down about 10 degrees 🤣🤣 Love ya work brother, keep it coming👍 By the way......I'm in Brisbane, Australia 🇦🇺
I want to thank your daughter for her service to our country. May God bless her.
I love winter camping. It’s my favorite season for it!
I really love this video, it's great 👌👍 and I watch it a lot.i learn something new from these wonderful videos, thank you so much.😊😊
This snow event was kind of a bummer. I had my fingers crossed that we'd get more than we did, but it wasn't to be. It appears Friday night into Saturday will give us some, at least above 4,000'
wow those wintry conditions looked awesome , as did the fire , regards to Paul Messner i watch him all the time and i find him so genuine and trustworthy , i watched his video where he said he was not doing reviews anymore due to comments that have been made , such a shame , like you if a product is crap he will say so , hopefully he will change his mind , looking forward to future videos in 2024 hope you and your family have a great New year
That doesn’t surprise me at all,,after all she’s your daughter. I can see you are so proud of her.
Hey Luke, Happy Holidays to you, your family and your youtube community! I just have one question, how do you keep everything organized? I’m sure you’ve been asked this before, i started watching you earlier this year, and i would love to get an insight of just how stocked your storage is. Phenomenal work! Love every video! Thanks for all the fun!
Paul is a great guy. Straight down the line. The real deal. Thanks for a great video Luke. Appreciate your content. Well produced, engaging and honest.
Cant wait! Happy Holidays Luke, and family!

Is it my TV or is the colour all messed up?
Well done my friend and you go for it. Being ex-Navy I appreciated the Kudos for the Seal. I've watched a bunch of his videos busting Valor Thieves.
Everything on the videos are teal or orange?
Luke I Love The Honesty In The Products of Reviews And Your Right That Man That They Say Just Wants To Sell Products ,,,He Is A Real Heart Felt Person And No He Isnt A Seller He Has A Diff. WAY of Demonstrating Products ...I Watched Him A Couple Of Times Actually I Was Intersted In The Way He Did Things❤ Thank You For Sticking Up For Him. People Sure Can Be Stiff Necked On Others Crying Shame😢
😊 with the RidgeMonkey Kettle that he slated as the worst he’s ever seen and is useless but still uses it…….🙄
First thing, you and Robby totally looked like Florida Man when ya had ya's shirts off!😂😅 LOL. Second, I hope this race you and Cleet are having starts something new. Maybe next year at the offroad games you guys have wrecker drags (street and dirt) and you guys can get Cleet to come out next year. Looking fwd to the videos of the build.
This was a beautiful adventure!
Is it just me seeing a weird orange filter on this video?
Honestly bro , i don't know why i watch to the end.
But hey . It is what it is. love ya tarp work.
Have a great new year.
I love snow camping its cozy and peaceful
Is it just me or is the colour-balance very orange in this video?
bro this video mad calming
Altering the color of nature is distracting.
Same i love going for walks when its raining or foggy or a storm is setting in... love the videos buddy ..
And I’m writing this as I’m about to go to sleep lol 😂 Keep it going man be proud of what you do (: Proud subscriber of the channel for at least 3 or maybe 4 years
You are the real deal, Luke, and have obviously been a good example to your kids. Greetings from Ontario.
I love the wind; and most people think I'm crazy. Hmm, oh well. Love the videos
I'm one mile from Disneyland.
I hate cold weather. So, we live in a warm climate
area.
Been in this home for over
Fifty- nine years. We love
it!
You are nuts to go get snowed in. We lived in Wyoming,Colorado, New Mexico, and
experienced cold weather.
No more for us!
But good luck to you!
Being in a warm room watching you, make me feel good.
43:43 I'm glad I discovered your channel first, as I have definitely seen some of those thumbnails you mentioned when searching for outdoor equipment reviews.
I recently went camping for a work thing and remembered how much I enjoy being out in the wilderness. I'm getting back into it and gearing up to get the family involved as well!
Thank you for everything you do, Luke. Strength and honor! 👊🏽
Weather, with wind changing directions, is bringing in some precipitation, have seen it in multiple countries around the globe. Luke, I’ve watched you grow in knowledge, understanding and wisdom over the years. I’m so pleased to have had your videos and commentary that have made it possible. Well done, Man. From East Tennessee
I love the sounds of the water on the pots while boiling to make coffee. So relaxing 😊
Love your video mate always fantasized about camping in the snow. But don't think it will happen. Thanks for posting. 🌨🌨🌨👌🏻👌🏻
Hi Luke
yet another good post, it was interesting to see you using that Ridge monkey kettle which you slated a few weeks back, the one you wouldn't recommend to anyone, you know the one with the small filler! you had no trouble pouring your water in through that small hole from your bottle. then that small spout! looks like you had a very controlled pour there! you had no trouble with water level as you poured enough water in for 2 cups, the other thing was you said about was the water spilling out as you poured, no sign of it there and you had filled the kettle up. the only other thing you said was about the lid slipping inside the kettle, yes i will give you that, if you don't use that free space! with mine i put my packs of coffee, powdered milk, sugar, and packets of hot chocolate, the lid doesn't fall in then and you utilised that free space. so maybe as it is not an American product it is not as bad as you made out?
Thank you for the motivation, Luke. As soon as I get off this barge, I'm going camping.
Luke one thing I love about your channel is I haven't ever heard you curse. You are surely a gentleman.
Kudos to the set designer for the orange and blue color notes.
Luke, I was an USAF intelligence analyst back in the day. Best job I ever had.
Really enjoying the channel, Thank you. In the UK and Europe, the small ice particles that fell initially are known as Graupel- its dry ,smallish, and rolls away easily. Sleet, to us, is wet snow falling or mixed rain and snow, which sticks and dissolves wet.
Luke,snow,mountain camping, my happy place!❄️⛺️❄️
Happy New Year to your family and you. Coldest our scout troop camped in was -10F. Canvas tents and was a learning experience for sure. Then we had a great team of adults - all vets from WW2. So it wasn't too bad, they had winter weather camping skills. Thank you for the video. God Bless to everyone.
What a super good adventure! Thanks for bringing us along to enjoy the fun and beauty and learn a little. Very dramatic new bit of ending music too. Of course I really like your bumper music a lot.
Brother, never say spook. You just gave your daughter up. Just say she is in the Military. Nobody needs to know what branch, and MOS (Job) that they do. I am sure your Daughter will be great, but just don't mention the job. As a friend who did work some sketchy locations in the past 30 years. Keep making videos, You are proud of your daughter and I am too. I don't know her, but bravo!
Great video. An your antidotes is well appreciated. Oh what the maker of the rope light?
A lot of orange in this vid. It makes the forest very pretty. That is some interesting snow.
Like the way explaining the things and weather 🌦️
Awesome trip Luke.
Enjoyed this one for sure.
I agree 100% about Paul Messner. Never got that impression either.
Thx as always for bringing us along.
🤘😎❤️
Love how u set up these tarps lol, I'm watching 😁
Thanks Luke. The bird in the tree above your camp reminded me of a hike on Roan Mtn. I was coming back from elk park towards Roan Valley through the balsams ,and suddenly the trees were full of dozens possibly hundreds of tiny gray owls bobbing back and forth making a sawing sound. I think they were Saw Whet owls migrating.
Are there ever times when you stay on the mountain thru the stormes for a few da6s. Now that would be great to see how you s7rvive thru it. I am a new member so if youve done that kind of video let me know😅
Hi Luke! I didn’t even know you had a daughter! God Bless her.
Good morning my friend. I don't go camping cause I am a single lady and would be afraid to venture out...But, I started watching your videos about a month ago and I really enjoy watching. Your stories are funny and I can't drive or venture out doors like you & your wife... please keep Sharing your videos.. I love them...Do you ever get scared of things around you? I pray that you & your wife stay safe while making your videos...I'm in Georgia... Looking forward to seeing much more of your videos
