I'd love to see more of " use what u have" decorating. Using mostly what people have, but switched up and a few new things added to make things seem new and fresh! Awsome room!
Please, please do more dark & moody/moody maximalism content! It's so refreshing to see people embrace this style of decor. We get so much white minimalist boho design (especially for DIYs) but so little of other stuff on the other end of the spectrum.
And the funny part is that that is just one branch of Boho, which has an incredible amount of branches, including colorful Boho, eclectic Boho and dark Boho, not just neutrals and whites.
I don’t like the matching sofa and wall. At least not for a sitting room. Everything being monochromatic on one side of the room while there’s varying color on the other side looks unbalanced. I would save it for a small space like a landing, entryway, or large walkway because it can be very pretty. But I’d want it to be the star of the show, if that makes sense.
Y’all knocked this out the park! I love that you were able to thrift the couch and upgrade it with the legs and the cover. So beautiful and cozy! Also give that man James a raise lol his editing skills are always on TEN.
FYI. You can literally take anything, including a slip cover, bring it to any paint store, and ask them to try to color match it. No searching the internet required. Love the monochromatic look.
Love that you and DIY Danie uploaded your "Dark and Moody" videos just hours apart on the same day! I got to watch them back to back for my Dark and Moody fix!
As a book lover, it always pains me to see her place a POTTED PLANT on top of a stack of books 🥴 other than that the entire room was flawless! Excellent job Alexandra, can't wait for the next makeover! 👏
This is so well done! The record display is such a beautiful focal point and the upgrade on the cabinet makes it look so high end. A free couch?!? What a find and it looks amazing.. (BTW, Alexandra you were right; the change you made on the cabinet was a complete 180 ... a complete 360 would mean that you were back to where you started with the cabinet.)
This is SO good. The only problem I have is with all this new expensive furniture she should really have some sort of cat scratching options so they don't get ruined. I love those chairs so much!
Gotta have a scratch post. What I did was take a board about 3' long, wrap it very tightly with sisal rope, and firmly attach it to a wall. The cats loved it as they enjoy standing to scratch. It must be firm and unmoving or they won't use it. Screw it into a stud.
I think it turned out wonderful. I like the new layout, the changes to the record shelf and the colors are lovely. One beef. I am sure the owner of the cat put the little grey cat tree in front of that window so that the cat can sit there and sleep in the sun and look at stuff outside. The hanging cat seat is neat but.....I feel sad that the cat lost their good window spot. That is all.
I've been obsessed with dark green/black/cream as a combo in decor lately, so this room is right up my alley. And the green looks fantastic against the warm brick wall. I really feel like green decor gives the feeling of bringing nature into your home - it's such a great colour.
It looks really good, *Pro tip never use a paint finish that has a sheen on damaged/patched walls, it shows up every imperfection, especially a dark colour, go for a flat finish
Agreed. I was very surprised to see the sheen. You can get the washability of semi gloss using eggshell finish so it's not needed for durability these days. The shine is very noticeable with the dark colour. I've nothing against the colour, but I am kind of shocked that they made such an elementary mistake after refurbishing so many spaces.
I totally agree. I always use a flat finish on my walls. It hides imperfections and gives a more elegant appearance. These walls took away from an otherwise beautiful makeover.
I think the inconsistencies in the lathe and plaster painted walls give the room a lot of character! Paired with the brick wall, in which every square inch is different to its neighbours, gives the room a particular, unspoken uniqueness. If it where a flat paint, it would have looked…well, flat! If you want it to look perfect, I suggest a full Reno with new drywall. But that’s so boring!
Totally agree. I've never seen anything but flat paint used on a wall--unless it's a rent house and the landlords don't want to have to repaint. Aside from not caring for the monochromatic green on green, great room, as always!
This looks amazing! I love how this makeover came out and the new couches and chairs. She DEFINITELY needs a cat scratcher in her living room though, no matter what new material the couches are. Put a cat scratcher in there! Divert the cat's claws!!!
I just saw one online and it was really a board covered with rope and fastened to the side of the sofa. It looked fine, almost like a decorative panel.
More. Like. This. Please. I love whenever your projects really rethink the layout of the room. This felt like a very relatable space size, and details like the record wall are so so unique and make the space seem like it really reflects the person who lives there. The changes added up to one of the biggest transformations you’ve published.
I'm not normally a fan of "dark and moody" living rooms, I would rather something like your own living room, but this is gorgeous! It's so sophisticated and the record wall is such a great idea.
ugh, dark and mood is my aesthetic and I loved this! Well done all! I loved the armchairs being so bright too. Would love to see a library room in the future - dark and moody of course! :)
LOVE this room !! Dark and moody is often so hard to pull off. You DID IT , it looks fantastic and such a cozy and comfy vibe !! That brick wall just adds so much character . PLEASE do more of this type of makeover...I think there are plenty of us out there that want to decorate with warm colors and are tired of the " all white " rooms that have been trending for a while now. Great job guys !!
My favourite makeovers of yours are the ones where you push yourself outside your usual style! Great job on this one! I’m definitely matching my next living room to my couch colour!
This is stuuunning! I would have gone with a larger coffee table, it seems a bit far and lost in the middle (one can’t put feet on it nor grab stuff etc while sitting), but other than that, I think possibly my favourite room you’ve done so far
This is my favorite to date! Absolutely love the "dark and moody" vibe (lol). This is sophisticated, comfortable yet guest won't be scared to come in and relax for fear of messing up the decor. Love how you've transformed the kalax. More please !
What a beautiful room! Who knew that you can put a dark green sofa against a dark green wall? I'm not ordinarily a big fan of bright yellow, but those chairs look fabulous, setting off the sofa perfectly! The upgrade of the piece she already had for her records was brilliant, set against that beautiful brick wall. I was very impressed with the decor pieces and the design. Well done Alexandra!
I also would love to see more “use/reuse what is there” decorating. More of a ‘refreshing’ of a space than a remake. Ideas to take and put into place in “my” space.
I’ve noticed the direction tends to be warmth, regardless of how light or dark the color scheme is, it would be nice to see a makeover using neutral to cool tones. Dove grey, forest green, and mauve are like my favorite colors. I also really love ecru.
I love the whole moody vibe, you pull this off also very well! My favourite part, as a DJ, is that you took the records out of the sunlight! Shows you know your stuff 💚👌
Love that you purchased her artwork rather than just asking her for it, AND the number of times you plugged her without being annoying about it. The room is gorgeous, but you supporting her art is the best part. If I were going to refresh THIS new room, I'd put gold leaf suspended acrylic legs on the kalax, gold leaf the inside of the lampshade and lean way more into plants.
Love the record wall, the rug, the mustard chairs and the green color. The place really looked elevated. Very elegant and looks expensive. Good job Team AG!
i feel like lighting that directly points towards the art piece on the wall would make it more wholesome!! but everything looks lovely you guys did such a great job ❤️
I think this is one of the most gorgeous living rooms you've done! My cats full on shredded an antique velvet armchair in 12 hours... stuffing everywhere. What's worked really well for me are removable heavy woven fabric covers that I can replace when they get too torn up OR covering armchairs and sofas with shag microfiber throws. I suppose it mostly works because my cats always go for the tops or the backs of the seating and not the bottoms.
Not a fan of dark and moody, that said, this is my favorite make over to date. Loved using what you have, but more than that, this seemed so well balanced and color coordinated. Thank you!
Our beloved fur-babies did a number on our couch, too, despite regularly trimming their nails. I found citrus scent to be a bit of a deterrent, (lemon furniture polish, essential oil, orange peel rubbed on the fabric), and now we also keep cat scratchers (sprayed /sprinkled with catnip) in each of their favourite spaces.
I love to see when IKEA pieces are featured. No, not because I own a share of IKEA, but because there are high chances a lot of us already own them, or easy to find and cheap to buy pre used, but even if new is still fairly accessible!
Alexandra!!!! Painting the wall and the couch the same color is genius! And the gold chairs pair beautifully with the wall and couch. Bravo, girl!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Wow this room turned out just… I am speechless. Amazing job. I would probably have picked a more grey-ish neutral green for the wall which would look more Art Deco and vintage, this seems a bit too saturated for me but but that’s just personal. I would die to have a room like this in my house. You nailed this makeover for sure!
I love your practical (e.g. living with pets) and hands on approach and the always esthetically pleasing result. I also love that you are showing the little mishaps and moments of uncertainty during the process, your way of problem solving and the backstage-chaos. This makes your makeovers so much more real, relatable and encouraging. 😀👍🤗
Thank a lot. Now I have to go out and buy records and a record holder.WOW,WOW,WOW. This room is so "dark and moody" and GORGEOUS! The brick wall and the records looks incredible.I love the DIY record holders. I have watched you since the beginning and your videos are getting better all of the time. You are my favorite designer.I wish that I could hire you for my cottage.
OMG if this was my living space I would just scream out loud of pure Joy and happiness! What an amazing make over!!! Really my fav! (hope she liked it too..)
I have an absurd amount of t shirts from my travels that I love and I think I am going to use the record display idea to show them off!! I had the idea of putting my shirts over canvas but didn't want them like that permanently. I can just use clips on the back and change them out once a month or so! Those little shelves are so adorable!!! And so easy even I can make them!! You're the best! 💖💖💖
Tip for matching your sofa (or anything) to your paint colour! You can actually bring your fabric swatch to the paint counter at the hardware store and they will use their special ray-gun looking machine (no idea what it's actually called lol) to get a perfect match and make you a custom paint! It costs nothing extra, at least at Home Depot. I wanted an accent wall that matched a favourite burnt orange throw pillow and the paint colour they mixed for me is an exact match. You can also bring in chips of old paint, solid materials, whatever.
That green sofa against the green wall gives me goose bumps. Jen wanted stylish and she got stylish. Love the vibe with the brick wall, the records on display and the yucca palm. One of your best AG. Fantastic job❤️
For sure best one yet! I have a very dark green wall in my living room and I needed new ideas to help kick it up a notch, and this episode is the vibe.
I love the way you put a room together. It’s always just right. I don’t have the eye trained yet to add little decorative touches that pull a room together.
Wow!!! Love the dark and moody!!! I wasn't sure about the accent chairs but it turned out amazing. And that kallax looks like a totally different piece. Would love to see more of upcycling old furniture
Very, very good, especially the brick wall. Life outside of boho! One caveat is the end table that’s being used as a coffee table. It’s far too small for that purpose. Otherwise, look be the olive green colour. No, it’s not “moody”. It’s just nice. The whole place has a speakeasy vibe. Cheers!
Little girl! Babe! You are so so so incredibly good at what you do!! I’m binging on your show right now. Just watched the awkward triangle room w THEE GRAHAM ROOM DIVIDER (slatted wood) next to the kitchen sink. I’m 50 and come from a Mama and aunts that loved, taught, and trained me, over many years, how to have and execute a real love for creating spaces. Spaces that make us and our loved ones feel good. I was the intern for many years haha… always getting the “cutting in” assignment. You know..cutting in w paint on walls and trim bc I was great at it. 🙄 If only we’d had UA-cam at our fingertips! We seriously curated our homes and loved every minute rummaging and digging thru a dusty old barn we would drive for hours to find. We also designed for other people. This room! It is Nashville/Austin worthy. Keep doin what ya doin Sweetpea!
I love the top that you added to the record cabinet. What a great idea! That cover on the couch fit like a glove - looks awesome. The fan was a nice touch to bring the colors together. I enjoyed this one.
I matched a wall color to some chocolate brown power shades I got for the windows. Ordered the shades first, took them to Lowe's, and had the paint department exactly match them. They are the EXACT same color and look phenomenal.
I'd love to see more of " use what u have" decorating. Using mostly what people have, but switched up and a few new things added to make things seem new and fresh! Awsome room!
That would be really cool. Or, if you're adding anything, keep it under 100 total or something
Yes, please!
Me too.
Agreed! This is such a relatable room flip.
I’m trying to do this now. New living room furniture is not in the budget. Paint, drapes, art makeover would be great. ❤️
BEST MAKEOVER TO DATE! All white walls are cancelled bestie - keep leaning into this rich, colorful, elevated style. Amazing!
Agree, I'm loving these deep solid colours. Delighted to see that old gray couch disappear and the new one getting a vivid new coat.
I never would have thought to match the paint color to the couch. That's such a good idea for a cozy, cohesive, clean look.
@hibernia89 that's fine, we all have different styles. Contrast is good too.
@hibernia89 I agree. A slightly less matchy -matchy green would have been better.
@hibernia89 Yeah, I would just flip the room around and have the chairs on the green wall and the sofa back against the brick.
Ikr! I had thought she was going to be in Danny’s video cause I saw the title
As a book lover, it always pains me to see her place a POTTED PLANT on top of a stack of books 🥴 other than that the entire room was flawless! Excellent job Alexandra, can't wait for the next makeover! 👏
Me too. I can't stop thinking wet books!
I love thrifting beautiful salad plates, often clear glass and using them under my potted houseplants.
Yeah, I get afraid they’ll get dirty or water logged
It’s pretty though😊
I was going to say the same thing. Often she also places lit candles on books as well. Alexandra, please don't! Everything else is great.
As someone with a lot of plants I totally agree - I spill water ALL THE TIME so books are nowhere near the plants 🤭
Saaame thought I had about the 180 🤣
This is SO good. The only problem I have is with all this new expensive furniture she should really have some sort of cat scratching options so they don't get ruined. I love those chairs so much!
It could be the same green or the same gold
I agree with you 💯 maybe reading the comments they will add one now
As a cat owner, yes, I agree!
Gotta have a scratch post. What I did was take a board about 3' long, wrap it very tightly with sisal rope, and firmly attach it to a wall. The cats loved it as they enjoy standing to scratch. It must be firm and unmoving or they won't use it. Screw it into a stud.
There was thought to the couch fabric, but the rug or baskets are going to be inviting to the claws
Yes. Cats are window hogs, hours of people and bird watching. I'm betting it will be put back in place for the kitty. 🐈🐾
I think it’s stunning. Does anyone else think the cat will choose a gold chair over that hanging basket thing 😉
Who else in still in awe of Carla's space makeover? The ultimate moody dream
I've been obsessed with dark green/black/cream as a combo in decor lately, so this room is right up my alley. And the green looks fantastic against the warm brick wall. I really feel like green decor gives the feeling of bringing nature into your home - it's such a great colour.
I would love to see a video of a room done on" use what you have " and upcycle or reimagine how things are used. Love the mood of this one.
It looks really good,
*Pro tip never use a paint finish that has a sheen on damaged/patched walls, it shows up every imperfection, especially a dark colour, go for a flat finish
First thing I noticed too lol Too bad because it takes away from the beautiful colour!

Yes! Can we please replace the minimal, neutral, overly-scandi trend with everything dark and moody? More of this! 🥰
This looks amazing! I love how this makeover came out and the new couches and chairs. She DEFINITELY needs a cat scratcher in her living room though, no matter what new material the couches are. Put a cat scratcher in there! Divert the cat's claws!!!

How is it that so many of us that love records have Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors in their collections? Amazing! Love that!
Dark and moody isn't even my style, but this is my favorite makeover of yours ever! Amazing transformation!
Same! Such incredible execution of the style.
Yes mine too!
As someone who suffers debilitating migraines, this is my absolute dream room. What a transformation! Wowsers.
That was fantabulous. Amazing what that refresh did to the ikea shelves. Your client was more muted than some, but I hope she loved it - she should!
I'm not normally a fan of "dark and moody" living rooms, I would rather something like your own living room, but this is gorgeous! It's so sophisticated and the record wall is such a great idea.
I Love that you are down to earth and use her own stuff. This makes it so affordable for us low income families.
Its so much fun to see a mere vloggy style of the preparations and seeing more of your team speaking into the camera lots of love to everyone !!
Really liked this one. Loved the record wall and the upcycled Kallax.
ugh, dark and mood is my aesthetic and I loved this! Well done all! I loved the armchairs being so bright too.
Would love to see a library room in the future - dark and moody of course! :)
I really love that the coffee table looks like records
She’s such a quiet personality. I’d be jumping for Joy! Great room makeover……really cool looking and beautiful! 😎
LOVE this room !! Dark and moody is often so hard to pull off. You DID IT , it looks fantastic and such a cozy and comfy vibe !! That brick wall just adds so much character . Yes I agree. I think a nice wooden table would have looked great.
My thoughts exactly - loved everything but the rather useless coffee table.Everything else was fabulous.
Yep it needed to be at least six circles not four
This is probably my favorite room you’ve done so far. Definitely the one I’d want in my house most.
This is my favorite to date! Absolutely love the "dark and moody" vibe (lol). This is sophisticated, comfortable yet guest won't be scared to come in and relax for fear of messing up the decor. Love how you've transformed the kalax. More please !
Noah's living room was one of my favorite makeovers you have ever done. I'm confident this one will be just as great !
This might just be my favorite makeover ever! Gave me a lot of ideas for my own space.
I think I was more excited over it than the apt dweller? I really like it.
What a beautiful room! Who knew that you can put a dark green sofa against a dark green wall? I'm not ordinarily a big fan of bright yellow, but those chairs look fabulous, setting off the sofa perfectly! ive been watching for years, but i think this might actually be my favorite makeover ever
Wow the couch and wall in the moody, matching color is so lux and sophisticated!
Amazingggg. I love the diamond rug.
I love how minimalist this space is. Not cluttered
I’ve noticed the direction tends to be warmth, regardless of how light or dark the color scheme is, it would be nice to see a makeover using neutral to cool tones. Dove grey, forest green, and mauve are like my favorite colors. I also really love ecru.
Love this style so much ! Dark and moody appartments are my favourite😍😍
You did great !!!
I love the whole room especially especially Golden side chair, they look so comfy
I LOVE a room with drama! And this room has it in the best way possible. Beautiful!!!
This looks soooo goood! Ugh can’t wait to design my new apartment with these tips!!
For a dark room is looks great. Its clean classy and personal. It doesnt look like generic hotel room design it felt home
This room gives me 🇧🇷 🇧🇷 🇧🇷 vibes and I’m so here for it.
Delicious room. I only thought that blue velvet curtains would be the colour and cozy trifecta.
Not a fan of dark and moody, that said, this is my favorite make over to date. Loved using what you have, but more than that, this seemed so well balanced and color coordinated. Thank you!
My favourite green. Such a fantastic change and much better floor plan . Art Deco vibes, and mid century.
I love a brick wall and the dark color really contrasts well with it.
Stunning. That green is perfect and the record holder thingies are 👌🏻
Our beloved fur-babies did a number on our couch, too, despite regularly trimming their nails. I found citrus scent to be a bit of a deterrent, (lemon furniture polish, essential oil, orange peel rubbed on the fabric), and now we also keep cat scratchers (sprayed /sprinkled with catnip) in each of their favourite spaces.

Really nice redo. Love dark and moody but with enough bright sun from the outside so this was perfect.
This is my second favorite space you've done right after Carla's! Nailed it!
Thank a lot. Now I have to go out and buy records and a record holder.WOW,WOW,WOW. This room is so "dark and moody" and GORGEOUS! The brick wall and the records looks incredible.I love the DIY record holders. LOVE.IT. totally my vibe ☺️👍🏼 makes my Scorpio heart happy.
PS: We need to see Alana on screen n talking more ❤️ she is just so cute n likeable.
This is a successful leap up from your usual Boho style. It is a different room and upcycling existing furniture is a sustainable plus.
Wow! I wasn't sure when I first saw the green. But it really works. It really has a more grown-up sophisticated look. good job..
I love it! Especially having the records on the wall - what a great idea! And she can change it up when she wants.
So glad to see your style evolving and maturing. This is a beautiful room.
Wow looks so good. I hope the people who live there appreciates and loves it too. It's amazing
Oh my goodness. The mini hanging chair is everything. sooooo cute
Love it 😍😍😍 glad that the client's taste is dark and moody like mine
Tip for matching your sofa (or anything) to your paint colour! Love all of the elements and how they really make a statement!
Honestly, I’ve never seen you do better. This room is beautiful.
That green sofa against the green wall gives me goose bumps. Jen wanted stylish and she got stylish.
Love the vibe with the brick wall, the records on display and the yucca palm.
One of your best AG. Fantastic job❤️
OMG….this is the BEST most completely changed redo.
This was fabulous! Great job team AG 💗I loved everything. The detail, the colours, the vibe 👌🏾
For sure best one yet! I have a very dark green wall in my living room and I needed new ideas to help kick it up a notch, and this episode is the vibe.
something about the colour blocking of the wall colour and couch really itches my brain in the best way
I could never muster enough courage to go DARK AND MOODY but it has to be done now. This is gorgeous. I will get me some paint ...
This is absolutely gorgeous. Tip: Etsy has loads of Kalkax customising door & basket trim ,moulding & top pieces .😁♥️
This one definitely goes in the top ten of all makeovers. Thanks for sharing!
By far, my favorite room you've ever done.
Those yellow chairs... how do you drool without emojis?? All came together so fantastically!
This might be my favorite thing you havve done so far despite all the gifted things. The record wall, the sofa and wall color blocking. Just ❤❤❤💖💖
Get that cat a scratching post! The room looks amazing!
