when the flag is set the gator clip should be horizontal holding the line, to set off the flag the gator clip should go from horizontal to facing upwards in the air. hope this helps!
@@buschfishin you mentioned to have the clip facing up for easier clamping. I had the first one facing up and it was even with tape not coming out as easy as I thought. I turned the clamp sideways and it worked like a charm...I love DIY Myself but I don't have to personality and time to make videos. cheers. Kevin.
that is such a good idea i don’t know how i haven’t thought of that! thank you very much hopefully this helps others too, im for sure going to do this on mine!
on my first one i wrapped the clip with tape and on the others i put two-three layers of heat shrink on them so no i’ve never had them cut my line even on 8lb test
the clip holds the line from the rod so that when you get a bite, the fish pulls the line and the line spins the clip and dowel so the flag goes off, once it’s spun and the clip is then vertical the line will come out and the fish will be free to swim with the line free spooling off the rod. hope this helps!
i can’t remember if i said this in the video but for this to work best you should probably wrap the clip with either heat shrink or tape on either side, that way when the fish bites it’ll slip out and not rip the line in the teeth of the alligator clip. hope this helps!
nice, but spin the alligator clip 90 degrees so it lets the line go easier, the way you have it its kinked, make it all 'in line' , can also use rubber tubing over the jaws, good stuff, very good simple tip at 16:40, but hilarious you didnt use your tip earlier on to cut the dowl 45, laughing here lol, its a great tip everyone at 1640 for cutting the angle
Heat shrink tube on the alligator clip works great.
Ahhh. Somebody already mentioned it
yes but it’s always good to remember, another mentioned to grind the teeth down on the clip. thanks for the comment!
You can also use plastic tubing on the ends of the alligator clip. Looks better than black tape.
I will be making 1of these for myself.
that’s a great tip, i wish i would’ve mentioned it in the video but thank you for saying it, hopefully someone see’s this and uses it!
I use heat shrink tube... Works great and doesn't come off in the cold...@@buschfishin
Cool video! Thanks. Look forward to another 👍
thanks man appreciate it!
i build myself one just last weekend after watching your video and others with the same setup. should your gator clip be turned 90° ?

let me know how it goes and if you have any questions!
@@buschfishin Thanks man! Is there anything you would change if you were to do it again?
Great how you used common hand tools!
yes, these are simple to make and effective!
Have you tried grinding the teeths off from the aligatorclip?
that is such a good idea i don’t know how i haven’t thought of that! thank you very much hopefully this helps others too, im for sure going to do this on mine!
Thanks man well done gonna give it a shot
thank you! should work great and catch lots of fish!
Thanks
Yes I always learn from watching
Since using it have you had the clip snap you’re line ?
on my first one i wrapped the clip with tape and on the others i put two-three layers of heat shrink on them so no i’ve never had them cut my line even on 8lb test
Thank you!
You get the thumbs up for showing us that it actually catches fish!
What does the clip do?
well done!
Thank you!
How do you set the clip?
the clip holds the line from the rod so that when you get a bite, the fish pulls the line and the line spins the clip and dowel so the flag goes off, once it’s spun and the clip is then vertical the line will come out and the fish will be free to swim with the line free spooling off the rod. hope this helps!
Will the clip cut the line off?

Do you know what size dowels you used?
if you measure that door stop it just has to be something that fits in there, i don’t know the exact size but if i had to guess 1/4 inch
