    What a great idea. My current outdoor backstop is quite a few electronic catalogs in an amazon box covered in gaffer tape placed in front of a paving slab for good measure. The amazon box is on its last legs now so now I’m being inspired by your backstop idea. Thanks for sharing.

    just finished building one using your instructions, including the metal plates (thinner tho) rivetted to the bottom. Since before all I needed to backstop an air rifle was a phone book. Just got a regulated .30 throwing 50 plus grain pellets at around 800fps, so needed to step up my game. and since I live in an apartment with no back yard, and live in a city so paranoid about "guns" that they call the cops on a woman doing a cosplay photoshoot with a ridiculously anime-sized cartoon rifle, I needed something like this to tune and modify without having to make a special appointment (yay covid!) to spend $12 to use a rifle range lane. the spongy mat you suggested really makes the whole thing work a lot better than the "bucket full of cloth strips" I was recommended earlier. Looks almost professional now. I ended up cutting the matting with a big set of very sharp utility shears.

    It rains here in England, so being a cheapskate, I knocked together a plywood box,(£3.00) a bit smaller than a card target, about 16" long, and lay this on the bench in the shed at the bottom of the garden. It's filled with old cycle innertubes (free) and is virtually silent. Result!

      @@HuntersVermin After a couple of years of changing bicycle inner tubes on our six well-used bicycles - I live in the Netherlands, see -, I recon I have a box full of them.
      Tomorrow I am going to mix your idea and that of Summoning Dark and make a sturdy silent target of a plastic box with a fat plywood bottom, rubber matting on top of that, a mix of inner tubes and some rubber granulate in front of that, and a cover with some clothing or a piece of that foam stuff to keep it all in. Target practice in silent mode, here I come!

    • @HuntersVermin
      @HuntersVermin  2 роки тому +1

      Glad you found the video so useful, i don't think i would change anything but someone commented instead of just smashing through the plastic lid why not cut the middle away but you'd have to replace it with some thin plywood to stop the rubber mulch falling out so not sure if its off any benefit or not.

    • @PaulHamM3
      @PaulHamM3 2 роки тому

      @@HuntersVermin well i made your trap and i must say its so damn simply but so useful, and i think i will just keep botching it with duct tape over the rubber mat and not bother sticking plywood or anything until it gives out,and just replace the box because £10 aint gonna break the bank! Its a great idea and the best bit is you can just keep re-using the mulch.

    Now when you use up the foam on the exterior, take the lid off, insert a new piece of foam
