    For those that have never seen the show Hurley would do 'stuff' like this from time to time. (Although this example is the funniest and best). It always served 4 general purposes. Least importantly it served as show recap for occasional new viewers. Secondly, Hurley would often express the thoughts and mood of the audience, and would help serve as both an anchor and 'character of reality'.(meaning what we would say, feel, think, or act ike if we there). He also expressed fan theories concerning 'the island' being hell, or Hurley's thoughts, or time travel, or his weight. But lastly and perhaps most importantly this is one of many examples of the Writers (Lindelof and Cuse) poking fun at themselves and those that took LOST a bit too seriously.

    The reason why the button had to be pushed every 108 seconds was to contain the electromagnetic energy on the island. That one time when Desmond didn't push the button, the electromagnetic energy was not contained and that is why the plane crashed; cause all metal things were being pulled toward the island. In season 5, in 1977 or whatever year they were in, that is how Juliet was pulled into that hole along with all those other metal things.

      I don't think so. (spoilers ahead)
      I think they had a plan, but the plan was, "We're going to have this great show and it's going to be really mysterious and everybody's going to be wondering what's going on, and after about 4 seasons we're going to drop the punch line that everybody's dead and it's going to be the biggest shock in TV history!"
      What they didn't count on, was that everybody was going to guess the punch line before the first episode ended. I remember when it aired and I went online to talk about it, and every single post I saw regarding the show contained some variation of, "I bet they're all really dead."
      The writers were stuck - everybody had guessed the punchline and they had a LOT of show to write! So they gamely went on and wrote the show, pretending that everybody didn't already know the punch line, and when they finally revealed it acted like it was a big deal even though everybody already knew.

      @@SarahB1863 Yes, I believe I read that once as well, but my point remains. They did not know where they were going with the story. As if it was some sort of game, they kept resetting the narrative - a specialty of Bad Robot productions. I found Lost to be entertaining on occasion, and even intriguing once or twice, but by season three I had reached the point of “enough already.” I did make an exception for Evangeline Lilly, as my wife made one for Matthew Fox, so we kept watching and it was a real kick seeing Kevin Tighe play a villain. That is my best memory of this outside the premiere episode, which was stellar. It was the amount of red herrings J.J. Abrams served up in this overwrought and overplayed modern melodrama that caused me to founder on the smorgasbord. It could have and should have been so much better, which (again) is characteristic of Bad Robot.

It certainly wasn't the plot cuz there really wasn't one they were just making it up as they went along, but the connections between people felt organic and real and honest. They weren't of course. Did anyone else sense there was a link between Once Upon a Time (Netflix series) and lost?
    I liked them both but they also drove me up the wall. Both series did make me form a real bond with the characters though. Let’s face it, you start out on the journey not knowing they are going to be in your life for quite so long! They frustrate you with their struggles between good and bad and downright evil. You just keep willing them to ‘do better’

    @Deathbringer99699 The Final Season revealed that many of the mysteries of the Island involved a guy called The Man in Black (because his name was never mentioned, he just wore a black robe) with supernatural powers that he gained from the mystical Source of the Island. Among these powers he had the ability to turn into a black smoke creature (yes, the Monster) and to create visions of dead people. The guy Locke saw in that old cabin was The Man in Black, not Jacob.

      Jonnyboy Animates What I dislike about season 4 was how they kept splitting up for the freighter nonsense, Claire's disappearance, and the whole Finding Nemo hunt for Jacob's cabin. Desmond's amnesia, not remembering who Sayid is, was kind of ridiculous and soap opera-ish imo, though I did enjoy the Christmas phone call to Penny plot in The Constant. Mike's return was pretty lackluster. And why kill off Ana Lucia so early, just to have her replaced by Isabella who dies a in a silly way like Artz? I also enjoyed the Jack/Jacob debate about faith vs science in The Orchid in Season 4.

    • @toshivibe
      @toshivibe 2 роки тому +2

      From the philosophical perspective, we all, as well as all our stories, end up in nowhere, and for the most part, "go with the flow". In this regard life cycle of a story is similar to the one of a person. What happens after the story ends, and how it ends, depends on what you believe in.
      Now, like itnor not, but Lost had a very obvious biblical and christian connotations since the very beginning, therefore - it went to the white light.
      Sopranos, on the opposite, had none of that, and ended up according to it's main hero's beliefs. This does make quite a lot of sense.
      That being said, If you believe you could do a better job than Lost writers, you are always welcome to write and direct a better show.
