This has got to be the best duet performance I’ve ever heard. Tom and Stevie’s voices go together so well and yet you can still distinctly hear the nuances of their individual voices. Just masterful!
I've been listening to and singing this song since I was 11 years old. I'm listening to it now at 27 and I am only realizing now how beautiful and tragic the lyrics are. Loving someone who's so broken down they break you in the process, never being let in, then seeing them healthier later on, all wrapped up with "cage without a key" and "quiet world of white and gold." That is insanely gorgeous songwriting.
Absolutely faultless! Hard Promises is a great album, but never really took off as it should have. When you see only 76 thousand views (after 12 years) for a performance like this, you realize that many just focus on the big hits. It's a shame because it's classic Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. And boy did she play her part well here! Very moving stuff! Thanks for the upload. So glad it's still up because recent marketing pushes have seen quite a few live shows & documentaries taken down.
