    Just one note, throughout the review it is recommended to keep the editing sequence so that Model 1 is always on the left and Model 2 is on the right.

    I've been using the S7 MaxV Ultra (a ridiculous name) for 2 years and have been entirely pleased with it. No troubles at all. It does need to be cleaned, but this is much less work than vacuuming and mopping.

      All of the S8 models have dual rollers. If you want the most powerful vacuum unit look at the S8 Max or MaxV Ultra. A cheaper option would be the Qrevo models.

    It is brave to recommend S7 MaxV first over S8 Pro. I bought S7 MaxV a couple of months ago and have been happy. The new dock looks much better, but I don't want to give up remote camera and removable mop plate for it. S7 MaxV's color camera with obstacle picture tagging is next level stuff.

      Cajt agree with u more, I chose the s7 max v for a reason , removable mop plate , Also not mentioned removable water tank just in case it needs to be cleaned cuz the s8 cant. And better obstacle avoidance cuz of the camera with led light for night cleaning . And im scared the if i get the s8 it will run over poop. The s7 maxv will do better at avoiding poop. That is my worst nightmare. Poop all over the house

      I think S8 can also avoid those nasty mines as well. As a retrospective, the old dock has been better for me. I installed the dock inside a closet frame. Since the old dock requires less clearance above, I could save an additional shelf from the closet. The dock is not visible, so the design doesn't matter anymore.

    I bought the S8 Pro (non ultra) and it does have the easily removable mop pad plate. It also has the single vibrating plate of the S7. The main reason I opted for the S8 was for the dual brushes since I heard past roborock’s were not great at getting pet hair out of carpet and that the dual brush helps a lot with that. So far it’s worked well and the mapping and obstacle avoidance certainly beats my older roomba. I do miss the automatic mop cleaning but I just couldn’t justify an extra $800 for that, instead I just bought a bunch of mop pads to swap out.

    I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. I have the S4 that I want to upgrade, but I don’t know whether to go for the S8 Pro Ultra vs S8 Max Ultra.
    I have all vinyl floor with one big carpet in the living room. I have no pets, just a family of 3.
    I saw your review regarding the FlexiArm in the S8 MaxV Ultra and it makes me wonder whether I want to shell out the extra money for the Max Ultra given the arm doesn’t do a good job around the corners. I do like the dirt detection and auto detergent dispenser feature though!

The removable water tank and mop plate is a win for me!! With multiple levels, much faster and easier to do!! Seeing you still have to pick up robot to take to different level, much faster to do when leaving out the door. This video makes me happy I chose the S7MaxV Ultra! I also got it on sale for $1000, so that is a win win!! My S7MaxV Ultra is performing very well and have zero complaints so far!! Vacuum Wars came to a similar conclusion as I did with the vacuum power. I respect his channel a bunch. My tests speak for themselves and I use the same tests for all of my robots. I think where the S8 Pro is better or worse than the S7 Maxv Ultra is a matter of perspective as well which is why I tend to not recommend one robot over another. This shows that big companies, (especially companies that lead in the technology they create e.g apple and samsung for mobile phones) all partake in what i call commercialisation or an "upgrade paradox". Purposely taking out bonified positive features, and inserting other features in a so called "upgrade" - leaving you wanting both features in a single product - thereby hoping that the next "upgrade" will have this. And the cycle continues in this way.

    Great video Jamie, can you add to your testing: sprinkle coffee grounds along the edges of the floor, but under the counter/cabinets? I find my S7MaxV Ultra is not able to do edges well. I know the robot is round, but it should only take a software update to drive into the edge (under the cabinets), bump its front sensor, back up and move over, and drive into the edge again (or a different route is okay too). I find it misses about 2 to 3 inches away from the floor's edge every time. I need to sweep a long the edge and push the dirt to the center of the room, so the robot captures all the dirt. The robot drives under the counter and does not think its an object, so it should be able to do a better job with edges. I would be really cool if you added this to your normal tests, if you have not done this already. After that, testing dirt in corners would be cool, but much harder for a totally round robot. Thanks again for another great comparison video! Keep up the excellent work!

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  Рік тому

      Thanks for the suggestion. Cleaning and especially mopping under cabinets is a problem for most all robots I have tested to date. That is because the won't fit without hitting the bumper or if the cabinets are high enough to fit under the lidar reacts to the cabinet doors and keeps the robot away as lidar sees the door as a wall. The best thing to do I sweep under the cabinets right before you send the robot out or since these robots won't mop there either use a wet dry vacuum like the Dreame H12 to sweep and mop under the cabinets and kill 2 birds with one stone.
      There is not a robot on the market that will handle mopping near the edges of your room and especially in corners. My answer is you still need to sweep or mop in the edges every so often and again I think a wet dry mop and a robot vacuum are perfect companions to tackle your home. Robots are mainly maintenance devices for in between deep cleanings.
      Hope this helps some and I appreciate your support!

    Hmm. Personally aftering watching this (and countless other reveiws) i'll stick to my S7 MaxV Ultra! I wanted to gauge if it was worth getting a second S7 Maxv Ultra for upstairs, or if we should "upgrade" to the newer S8. Seems to me the S7 is the clear winner! AND here the S7 MaxV Ultra is $1800 VS $2700 for the S8 Pro Ultra. And where i am, you can't get the S8 Pro Ultra in black, it only comes in white, where as the S7 comes in both black and white!
    Mind made up! Seems i'll keep an eye out when the s9 comes out to see if there's any noticeable upgrades!

    I just bought the S8 and Amazon just lowered the price of the 7 to $1,000. I was wondering what you thought now that they update the 7 to have the same camera system as the 8 and integrated the drying. Seems like the 7 is an even better value. I’m seriously considering returning it and getting the 7. But! (There’s always a but) the new dock, as you said looks WAY better. The question is, is that worth $600 to me! That is a huge delta! I was more inclined to return it when it had the camera with live view. That is a really cool feature that is now gone on both. Thanks for the great co tent and you got a new sub from me!

    Just found your channel today and immediately subscribed! Thank you for the excellent informative videos that aren't just another infomercial.
    As someone who has 0 use for a mopping function or the ability to avoid animal waste I'm having a tough time deciding if any of the current roborock offerings (or any robovac currently available, really) are worth the money in my situation.
    I have a j7+ and an S9+. One downstairs one up. My biggest complaint with both of them is their feeble navigation, the S9's complete lack of obstacle avoidance and how long they take to clean. The j7+ is also starting to become very buggy which is unfortunate.
    I end up just not running them most of the time due to the noise and dust they kick up while running because they are so slow. The poor obstacle avoidance on the roborock models particularly for cables is a huge letdown especially considering my j7+ seems to run screaming for the hills at the first sight of a cable which IMO is its greatest strength!
    For use exclusively on low pile carpets, for an extreme allergy sufferer where keeping dust out of the space provides a lot of value, do you believe any of the vacs currently on the market are worth the money considering what I've already got?
    Thanks for any help!

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  Рік тому +3

      For navigating there is not really a better robot that Roborock. Near flawless. They have good carpet pickup and the have the very best auto empty docks. Other vacuums that come to mind are the Ecovacs T10 Plus which had not as precise navigation, but not too bad and besides the J7 is the only other robot that will dodge a cord. I reviewed it on my channel.
      The words "Not an infomercial" might make it on my channel somehow in the future. I think that when I create these videos. Too many people on UA-cam trying to please the manufacturer which does not do the consumer any good. I'm here to help people and not just make a buck or a half baked video.

      Thanks so much Yash! I assume you are referring to my ultra robot vacuum comparison video? ua-cam.com/video/Nt1KwfEPoEI/v-deo.html The rubber brush rollers on the Roborock models do the best and not getting hair wrapped around the roller brush, however until the S8 Pro came along with dual roller the roller brushes with bristles deep clean the carpet much better imo. I like the idea of a carpet shootout and will need to think beyond rice for that one. You may notice I do not do fake hair tests on my channel and the main reason is our hair and our pets hair is for one not synthetic and 2 laying a bunch of wads of hair on top of the carpet does not simulate how our hair in embed in the carpet at all. I have 2 girls in my house with long hair and 3 cats and I can tell you those test you see on other channels do not accurately represent real life and it is not even close. What I do is I live with each robot in my house for months before putting out a review video so I can tell you that the Roborock brush rollers will only get it wrapped around the roller axles while the ones from the other manufactures get it wrapped around the brush roller itself. If you don't clean that often you will reduce your agitation ability. I tend to shy away from suggesting which robots people should buy as I do not want to appear partial in any sort of way plus what I suggest does not always meet the needs for you and your home exactly. What I do is try and give fair and honest comparisons to help people make the right choice. I am also going to have reviews out for 3 more ultra robot as I am testing them right now. I appreciate your support and kind words. Cheers!

    A great video Jamie. Thanks.
    My house is mostly carpet and my current robot is an Ecovacs T8 AIVI which I am pretty happy with but being a gadget lover I will definitely be upgrading it at some point. From my experiences with carpets there is one difference in the S8 Pro Ultra that looks very interesting - the wider wheels. I find that because my Ecovacs runs daily and always does the same boundary sweep in the same direction at the start of cleaning each room over time it leaves track marks around the edges of the carpets and “crop circles” in the corners where it does its 90 degree turns. Having wider wheels presumably distributes the weight over a bigger area so if the s7 & s8 are of approximately equal weight then I would expect the s8 to be kinder to carpets in terms of being less prone to leaving track marks.
    It’s a bit of a shame that Roborocks don’t have dual side brushes because then it could do a boundary sweep in either direction with a corner brush always hugging the wall. That could allow Roborock to do something clever in the software by, for each room on the map, recording the direction that it used for its last boundary sweep and making sure it alternated directions on successive cleans which might also help reduce track marks because it wouldn’t always be driving the same way relative to the pile of the carpet.

      Interesting take on the wheels that I had not thought of as being an advantage. Lol now you are going to have to buy one and let me know if that really works!

    How would you compare the bare S7 Vs. S8?
    In theory, better suction/double roll for carpet,
    better mopping - and obstacle avoidance sounds great.
    Though it's difficult to quantity how much better it's doing for real.
    Would you say it's worth 50% more?
    And - in case you have an S8+ dustbin at hand - could you confirm it's working with the separately available S7 auto empty station which is what some German forums are claiming?

    Hi Jamie, you don't make it easy 😊😊 I'm really looking at the S8 as it is new, has new features and isn't a year old so should get more firmware and features added to it. However I'm also looking at the S7 MaxV as it is a bit cheaper (not alot) and AI is better. Our house is mostly carpet but not high pile, I'm thinking if I have this running each day the difference in the carpet pickup shouldn't be an issue for the S7, would I be wrong here? We have only one cat so not too concern on pet hair but we have a 14 year old daughter for the life of her leaves all types of objects around the house, e.g pens pencils etc, I'm thinking the S7 could be better in this.
    I know you went over it but are you able to re-highlight the different options in the app between the 2 as that could be the decider.
    Also I was wondering in the mopping example, could the S7 have done a better job that the S8 due to the rollers going ??

      I think you will be fine with either and you are right the S7 MaxV will stand a better chance avoiding objects although I always recommend people pickup first before the robots go out. As far as the spinning roller brush in the mopping example, you remind me why I really like my subscribers! I had the exact same thought AFTER I completed my tests and was scratching my head. I would need to rerun the test with vacuum and mop mode to keep the rollers engaged. I may do that as it has been weighing on my head. I've used the S5 MAX for 3 years. My bedrooms are carpeted and the living room has an 8x10' area rug. I have an Australian Shepherd who sheds a LOT! The S5 Max's single roller brush with bristles picks up the hair well, but gets dog hair wrapped around it a lot, including at the ends, and the dustbin fills up quickly, so that I have to pause vacuuming after each two rooms to empty it.
    So, I decided to get the 8+ for its auto-emptying feature (mopping isn't that important to me). I really looked forward to using it, especially the auto-emptying, even if I still had to stop the vac every two rooms so that it could return to dock and empty.
    BUT, I was severely disappointed to find that the S8+ won't even pick up the dog hair on carpet, certainly not much of it. The clumps are still there on the carpet after vacuuming, even if I do a room 3 times! I also had it set to Max+ vacuuming strength. I could literally watch the S8+ ride directly over the hair and not disturb it. So I would either have to pick up the hair clumps before or after vacuuming. The vac does auto-empty fine, but it didn't make my effort doing vacuuming any more successful or easier.
    So, I returned the S8+. Its 2 roller brushes, which lack bristles, just don't do a good job of picking up dog hair. I didn't assess its performance on non-carpeted areas, because the hair was more visible on carpet. I have no reason to think any of the other S8 models would do any bette if they have the same kind of brush system, and based on other reviews I've read, I don't know of a self-emptying vac from another brand that would be any better, either. If any of you do, please let me know. The S7 MaxV Ultra gets good reviews, but I don't know if it would be any better for my situation. It also seems to almoat be discontinued, as it's unavailable most placesnive looked. Thanks!😮

      First I am sorry to hear of your struggle. I have short haired cats and do not have the same issue. I suspect the rubber rollers don't agitate the carpet enough to break the hair free. A bristle roller brush is what many people have used in your situation although I don't have a good way to test for this on my channel.
      I am reviewing the Eufy X8 Pro now and that comes to mind as it has a bristle roller brush and a hair detanglemet system which I can't test very well as it is designed for pets like you have. Amazing video kind Sir! Thank you for the extremely detailed video, it helps me figure out which one I'm getting, which unfortunately will be the S7 MaxxV Pro Ultra. I really wanted the S8 to win in all categories, but alas they flopped big time on the dual roller design. Not sure how their engineers and designers did not see the gap issue with their rollers, but it was very obvious to me the first time I saw it, and I'm no engineer (although I design PC hardware so maybe that helps? lol). They should've redesigned their rollers in the S8 so that one roller complements the other roller and creates an almost perfect seal with each other. I have an iRobot Roomba i6+ and that is how they design their rollers. Works great on almost all surfaces.

    Thanks for the Any thoughts on the new S7 Max Ultra (not MaxV)?
    The Ultra (without the "V") added auto mop drying, got rid of the camera, and has slightly higher suction power (5500 Pa in the new Max, 5100 Pa in the MaxV). I read that the reason the MaxV is more expensive is the camera's ability for live video and video calls (plus the more advanced camera in MaxV may improve its object avoidance). Any thoughts?

      Thanks! Glad you are happy with the S7 Max. I can't exactly remember the reason for the numbers. They equated to another measurement I used early on and when I converted that measurement to grams this is what it was. I keep them all the same so we can track and compare new robots to the performance of older robots which is why it is important for me to keep these numbers consistent. I have been waiting on this question for a long time and honestly I am surprised it took this long for someone to ask!

The vacuums at the time were sold in black , which has been a problem with the baseboards being marked with black bumper marks. I purchased some Velcro and that solved the problem. I do not have keep out zones and the Roomba frequently gets stuck under chairs and next to rugs. The rugs have tassels and the side brush frequently gets entangled. I will not purchase a Roomba again as their technology has not kept up with the competition. 👎👎😢

Then gives a live feed of a robot vacuum controllable over the internet with no shutter on the lens is crazy to me. Anyone who has even a basic knowledge of privacy and potential for security risk would be nervous, especially with a 24/7 open port to the internet, i.e. it's how you can remote in anytime you want.

      @@jamie.andrewsat is true lol, have you tried it with the new firmware? Only reason I ask is since that was from a couple months ago with the pre-production firmware as I've heard the new firmwares are night and day difference with obstacle avoidance. The IR cameras are like $500 on Amazon right now and the RGBs are like $20. The obstacle avoidance comes down to two things, the first one is you are using fake dog doo doo which has no color differentiation much in FLIR, second is the firmware has gotten so much better from the pre-production models. Just my two cents. I think unfortunately a lot of people don't realize how expensive the FlIR cameras are and think robo Rock skimped. Anyone who has seen a video with FLIR images can see how amazing they are once the algorithm is tuned.

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  Рік тому +2

      @@ktms1188 I have tried it with new firmware and it is still a problem. Not sure if I follow the logic about the fake poo being a problem. It is still an object in the path of the robot which the robot should avoid regardless of what it is. The S8 Pro also has structured light sensors in addition to the IR camera so even if the color is a problem the objects can get detected and avoided. Roborock has some fine tuning to do imo as their S7 Max and Q Revo also struggle where other robots do not.

    Thanks for your video & here are my personal thoughts, questions:
    1. Both Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and S8 Pro Ultra designed in the way that you don't really need to remove wet mopping pads, because they have self-cleaning ULTRA stations. So even though S7 MaxV is easier to remove wet mopping platform as an attachment, I don't see it being as some kind of advantage for S7 MaxV. Yes, of course, you would need to change mopping clothe like every few months, but it's not a big deal at all to flip and change the new mopping cloth once in a while.
    2. Camera / remove viewing with 2 ways audio on Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is more like a gimmic feature, I feel more like a marketing thing, rather than practical thing. I mean, if would care about my pet - I would rather install IP camera with treat releasing system, 2 ways audio, built in laser game, etc. For security purposes - also proper IP cameras would do a better job, rather than robot vacuum cleaner with integrated camera. When it comes to robot vacuum cleaners - I need a system, which would do a good job in avoiding obstacles at home.
    3. I wonder how did you measure the wet mopping test results, stating 85% for S7 MaxV Ultra and 60% for S8 Pro Ultra. Could you comment more on this regarding measuring method?
    4. Have you noticed any difference among those 2 models when it comes to tangling hair around their rolling brushes? Which one tangles around more?
    5. Did the fake poop obstacle avoidance improved on your carpet since the test you have included in this video? I wonder why it was not able to identify this object on your test. Did the software update helped? Did you get any reply from Roborock?
    Thanks for your time, tests and video once again, useful information and insights! :)

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  Рік тому +3

      You are very welcome!
      1. I do not entirely disagree and personally I do not mind that or the fact the water tank is not removable, but I have learned that other people feel it is a big deal for them so I point it out.
      2. Having pets I have IP cameras in my home and a robot that dispenses treats. These are extra expenses though and before I had them I used the S6 Maxv to keep an eye on them. One advantage to the S7 Maxv over those is I can very easily drive it around to find my pets which are not always in one place and I still have to do that with my cats every once in awhile. The cat treat dispensing robot will die after 3 days if I do not leave it plugged in so it has to stay on the wire while I am gone which limits how much it can move.
      3. Lol no scientific measurements here just a close guesstimate.
      4. Neither tangle hair more than the other.
      5. No the latest update has not fixed this. Roborock has not yet responded other than they have the information.
      Thanks for the support!
