Hello, from Norway. Thank you for helping me to choose. I bought my very first robot last week. I choose the S8. Now, after a week I want to change it to S8+. I don't like to empty the vacuum ;) My parents, 84 years old, also bought their first robot, the same day as me. They are very happy with the S8. I will return my S8 to the store, and get a new one. If I had more money to spend I have definitely bought the Ultra.
It was a great comparison, just want to mention for those who are concerned about the mop wetting feature, you can have similar functionality in the non-pro version as well when you schedule a cleaning task and not start immediately.
Thanks for another great & informative video! Amazing how far these have come over the last few years! Looking forward to one day having my own little bot rolling about picking up dust bunnies!
I love this very useful review of the different versions of the Roborock S8 as i didn’t know which is the best vacuum for my home. I am now convinced that the S8 is perfect for my great room with hardwood floors. Great work guys…
Wow, what a balanced review! It so useful to hear the pros and cons of each model rather than just get the hard sell on the top of the range product. Thank you!
I've used the S5 MAX for 3 years. My 4 bedrooms are carpeted and the living room has an 8x10' area rug. I have an Australian Shepherd who sheds a LOT! The S5 Max's single roller brush with bristles picks up the hair well, but gets dog hair wrapped around it a lot, including at the ends, and the dustbin fills up quickly, so that I have to pause vacuuming after each two rooms to empty it. So, I decided to get the 8+ for its auto-emptying feature (mopping isn't that important to me). I really looked forward to using it, especially the auto-emptying, even if I still had to stop the vac every two rooms so that it could return to dock and empty. BUT, I was severely disappointed to find that the S8+ won't even pick up the dog hair on carpet, certainly not much of it. The clumps are still there on the carpet after vacuuming, even if I do a room 3 times! So I would either have to pick up the hair clumps before or after vacuuming. The vac does auto-empty fine, but it didn't make my effort during vacuuming any more successful or easier. So, I returned the S8+ today. Its 2 roller brushes, which lack bristles, just don't do a good job of picking up dog hair. I didn't assess its performance on non-carpeted areas, because the hair was more visible on carpet. I have no reason to think any of the other S8 models would do any better, and I don't know of a self-emptying vac from another brand that would be any better, either. If any of you do, please let me know.
Thank you for the informative video. I really like that the s8 brushes can go up during mopping so that it doesn't get the brushes dirty if I'm mopping something wet.
Just a quick tip (you probably already know but others may not) - don’t mop super wet things with a robot. They’re designed for damp surfaces but not actually removing liquids. It’ll cause corrosion internally long term
Hi, thank you for a very good review! Will the mop wet the rugs or do the robots lift them up high enough not to do this? I would presume that there will be miscoloring from a dirty mop after a while if not. Thanks.
Thank you for a great video. I have been considering for some time now upgrading my Roborock and your video really helped. It was concise to the point and very informative.
Finally someone reviewing the Plus version! I think you're literally the first in depth reviewer of the S8+. I've been searching months for a video like this. Thank you so much for the effort! I'm now actually thinking about buying the S7+ as repairability and the bagless option are something I like. I have been waiting for the S8+ due to the dual roller (thank you expired patent). But I'm now not so sure if that outweighs the other cons. 🤔
It's very similar to the Pro Ultra, which I guess is why no one has done a review. I may do a 5 min dedicated S8+ review video at some stage too to help people out!
Thanks! 🙏🏼 As a 100% single mother I have been wanting a Roborock for many years. Still cannot afford one, but at the same time I cannot stop watching the videos 😅
Thanks for such a great review. I have not yet tried a robot vacuum but these videos are really helpful for me to see all of the features and decide if they would be suitable for our family.
I just purchased the Dreame L10S Ultra but my list came down to just two - the other being the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra! :D But since the performance of the two was very close I went with the cheaper option. much of my decision making was facilitated by your great reviews! Thanks and wish me luck! ;)
@@RobomateTV OMG I love it! It's like having another person around to help you do the vacuuming and mopping! I have been cleaning everywhere! :D There are a few things that could be improved but minor things only. Like, they could put a sensor (?) in the base station so the robot doesn't have to perform location dances before returning to base. When I put the robot down in front of the base station I would expect it to locate it immediately but that never happens. The robot also, for some strange reason, in our kitchen, doesn't clean in 1, and only 1 corner of the kitchen (about a 20 by 30 cm square) and there is no easy way to ADD space to the map (that I know). The software is really good but I would like it to be a little more granular/precise so that I can clearly see walls etc., for more precise editing. Adding a no-go zone around our cats' eating area has been a little tricky. Also, we have some hight differences and threshold transitions between a couple of rooms that are challenging for the robot so a better front wheel (?) might help in those situations - it would be great if the software could recognise that and adjust to it so it doesn't then continue to stumble over that area when it's cleaning. All-in-all, a great product that has exceeded my expectations! Thanks again for the great analysis on your channel! :D
I just purchased a refurbished s7 for upstairs as our dog never goes up there and it's not occupied very much. I'm wanting an s8 pro ultra for downstairs though. Thank you for the explanation as it helped remove some of the confusion I had surrounding the models.
This is so cool I can’t wait to get one of these robots. The video clearly shows the pros and cons of each vacuum and I love it! I definitely will be using this to help find my perfect robot vaccum
Thank you so much for explaining the difference on each, I decided on the S8 pro ultra since I have more of the hardwood floors to clean and have dogs.
Every time I think I’ve made a decision about which vac to purchase, a new video comes out that has me second guessing myself! Love these comparison videos, thank you!
A little disappointed by the new double brushes. I expected more. Do you think the S9 robots will have the new spinning mops the Roborock Q Revo has or will it keep the vibrarise system?
Have had my S5Max for 4 years and 4 different homes now. It’s dependable and easy to get it to map new areas. I bought 2 other well reviewed brands for my finished basement and third floor. I used the RoboRock on the main floor. The non-RoboRock vacs are having battery issues but the RoboRock (the oldest vac is still running strong!! Looking at the 8+
We live in Nelson, and spend a lot of time outdoors with our 2 dogs and an 18 month old. Both me and my partner work full time and I'm also studying full time, so spare time is a rare commodity! We've got 150m2 of hard floors (the odd rug) and we're so bloody sick of every spare minute spent vacuuming fur and the mopping of muddy paw prints etc. The pro ultra seems like a bloody good option but is a big investment! Thinking about whether to go with an entry level option to start or to go the whole hog off the bat. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
@@TommyKNZ hmm, we're releasing a Eufy X9 Pro video soon which may be an option. It is a good option too but doesn't have the auto-empty, but is also significantly cheaper. Feel free to give us a call 09 414 6611 if you want to ask more questions
This video was really helpful in helping me decide which model is most suitable for my house. It is the S8 Pro Ultra as I have a lot of black marble polished concrete to keep looking smart and the carpets a not long or super thick.
If I had to choose I’d take the plus over the ultra dock. Having mixed floors and not having the opportunity to remove the mop module would freak me out I think 😂 what the could add to the auto empty station is a mop drying creature so it does not stink that much after coming home from work after few hours. Just my two cents 😅 Lovely video tho, the definition of the robots on that whiteboard really helped me understand the naming at Roborock ❤
Haha I need to get the white board out again! I think it takes more than a few hours for it to stink if it was clean beforehand or used regularly! Thanks for the comment.
I would definitely go with the S8 Pro Ultra because of the mop cleaning feature and the water refiling aspect. Even the standard model is great for everyday cleaning.
Thanks for the video. Been so confused with the difference between the models. Would the drying of the mop an advantage as I saw in another video where it tskes 2 hours to dry them completely? Im still trying to decide between the S8 and S8 ultra pro
There have been mentions by other utubers about damage on the hard floor caused by rough edges on mop cloth and also damage to skirting board has been mentioned. What is your experience? Thank you for the video
Wow, this video was incredibly informative and well-executed! I've been considering getting a new robot vacuum, and this comparison of the Roborock S8 models really helped me make up my mind. The detailed testing and side-by-side demonstrations showcased the strengths and unique features of each model, allowing me to see which one would best suit my needs. The S8 series seems to have taken robot vacuums to a whole new level with their advanced navigation, powerful suction, and smart mapping capabilities. Kudos to the creator for providing such valuable insights, making my decision-making process much easier. Keep up the great work
Thanks for the very informative advice on choosing the right model. How high is the cleaning unit, i.e. what must be the clear height for it to get under obstacles such as a bed?
Thanks for the comparison! So just to clarify, both of them lift up the mop when it detects carpet? So I don’t HAVE to take the mop attachment off on the S8+ before I use it if I plan on doing all the carpeted areas/rugs?!
Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate the roborock s8 pro ultra and eufy x9 pro today. It was very helpful! I was impressed by both machines. I see you have a review coming up for the q Revo. When is that likely to release in NZ?
Would definitely want auto emptying. And better obstacle avoidance. At this point I empty our vacuum after every single run and I have to clear the floor of clothes, toys or bathroom mat to stop it from getting stuck. Which kind of defeats the purpose, since the actual vacuuming has just been replaced by a lot of prep work. I cannot imagine having the Ultra station, it just seems too good to be true.
Yep, it the object avoidance is really helpful. Still not perfect but getting better all the time. The Ultra stations are awesome although still pretty pricey.
I just bought a S7 Max V Ultra. It's been great so far. I went with the S7 because just about all the reviews say that its better at both suction and mopping than the S8 model. It also had the dryer bundled in.
It depends on what you're comparing. The S7 MaxV suction opening is smaller which means the delivered pressure is slightly higher, making it better at "denser" things like sand etc, whereas I believe the dual roller is better for dust and hair.
I agree with the sentiment that for hard floors the ultra is worth the extra cost. I myself wouldn’t want to upgrade to the S8 without it as my loyal S5 still does an okay job. The only reason I’d upgrade is to get even more hands-off for my cleaning. Hope you do a give away for the ultra again soon as I missed the last one 😅 So do I understand correctly that the S8 with the removable water tank is not compatible with the ultra dock’s water functions?
I was very surprised to see that only the S8 Ultra gets the dual rollers lift vs the other two, very strange to see such a difference with them all! Either way they look great! Now only to see how they will compare against the new S7MaxUltra and the Q Revo! Time will tell!
This video was really helpful, I didn't realize the robots were different between them, I thought it was only the dock! I would probably go for the one with the ultra dock, I'm mainly interested for the mopping!
Great run down on the naming convention, made much more sense laid out like that. I'm a huge fan of hands off operation and have become a convert to the mopping (used to think it was a gimmick), so I guess I'd have to go for the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra. Not a fan of the fixed tank/mop, but the autoclean/dry dock is a must have. Having to flip the robot to change the pads looks to be a PITA though. I believe there is a plumbing addon for the Ultra that autofills and empties the clean/dirty water tanks, which sounds really cool but I have no idea where I would fit that in my house :) Re the mopping change of heart - I recently got a Dreame Z10 Pro (awesome vacuum), it just has a little onboard tank with an electric pump which I initially dismissed. Tried it out and was surprised by the shine it added to the floors - run it once a week now on deep moppingx2 (does a criss-cross). Not going to get deep stains off, but it gets the dust and sparkle done nicely. My ultimate preference would be the Dreame L10S Ultra - auto cleaning fluid adding to the water and the dock seems better to me, better cleaning of the rotating mops and the docking station mop tray is easier to clean.
Just fyi - you don't need to flip the robot to get the mopping pads off. You can just slide it out. Pedantic point. L10S Ultra is a pretty nice unit too.
Great video! This is a great comparison. I live in a place with two levels, and I think the most ideal solution (eventually) would be to have a S8+ upstairs and the S8 Pro Ultra downstairs. This is great to know. Thank you.
So helpful to hear this review. So confusing to know which one to choose. I have the S7 V Max Ultra for our business and I find it brillaint but want to get one for home now but not sure if to go with the S8 or stick to the S7 model we've purchased previously. help please.
Just the comparison I needed, thank you ! Since I have no experience with Roborock, I am left with the question of how long these devices will continue to work... For comparison, I currently have an IRobot 960 that still works perfectly after 775 hours of vacuuming (35489 m2)! Can I also expect something like this from the Roborock S8 (regardless of which type) ???
how do you expect him to answer if the robot was released 2 months ago? older models yeah they last long time, but self washing docks was released a year ago so no long term data
I'm really interested in the S8. I have two dogs and it's really hard to keep up with the shedding. Recently switched to a corded vacuum but would love a hands off approach.
I’ve had 3 IRobots and I’m thinking of coming to Roborock due to glowing reviews from our friends. Would love to have one to see how much better they are
Right now it is an interesting time with Roborock, I'm looking at getting an all in one but the other option I'm looking at is, do I need the s8 ultra or will the S7 maxv work just as good as I expect the price of the S7 to drop once the S8's come into nz
Thanks for the information on the differences between the models! Obviously, the Pro Ultra model delivers a true automation experience ("set it and forget it") and lowers the effort you put into the whole house cleaning process. The ability of the dock to take care of the wet mopping function (cleaning the pad, drying it, and refilling the tank) definitely eliminates those servicing tasks that I don't like about my current mopping robot (Braava). However, a major point for me that leads me to prefer the S8 over the models with docks is the issue of dock size. I would prefer the robot to be more compact and out of sight when it is off. Without the dock, the robot with its charging station can be neatly fitted under a cabinet.
@@blackpaw29 I've seen a few of these sorts of ideas. Looks pretty easy to do too... I recommend testing it before you go cutting up your cabinetry though.
Fantastic comparison, thank you. I wonder whether we'll ever see outside of china options to plumb in the ultra bases to water supplies and drains to make them even more hands off?
Are all three models of robot compatible with the 2 different styles of dock? Just curious if it's possible to upgrade later - although it sounds like that's less of an option if dock can't be bought separately.
I suspect the Pro would work on a plus dock, but often they are software blocked from recognising the other base. I’ll have to give it a try. You often can pick up a base if you’re patient enough, even if they’re not widely available
@@RobomateTV you cannot use the pro on the pllus dock because the charging contacts are only on the side not on the bottom like on the maxv that had both locations.
Great video thanks - understanding the naming convention is really handy, in particular about the dock. When we can afford it we'd go for the S8 Pro Ultra as we have lots of hard floors, and your point about it pre-wetting the pad before it starts makes a lot more sense for this. I think your links for the S8 Pro Ultra for NZ & AU aren't working - couldn't find this on the NZ website by searching either - are you not selling this model at present?
Are you supposed to empty the S8 pro of any water after you’re done mopping? Also I’d be worried about getting water elsewhere while trying to fill the tank. This seems like a headache
What a quick and easy video to understand the difference between those 2 robot vacuum and to know how Roborock name their products!

Yep! Definitely all do
Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate the roborock s8 pro ultra and eufy x9 pro today. It was very helpful! I was impressed by both machines. I see you have a review coming up for the q Revo. When is that likely to release in NZ?
I haven't had any confirmation yet for NZ (or even if they are coming at all... I presume they are).
What do you think about the Q Revo compared to S8+?! Trying to decide between the two and finding it hard - both have different good things!
Just found your channel, good work! Just what i need
I agree with the sentiment that for hard floors the ultra is worth the extra cost. I myself wouldn’t want to upgrade to the S8 without it as my loyal S5 still does an okay job. The only reason I’d upgrade is to get even more hands-off for my cleaning. Hope you do a give away for the ultra again soon as I missed the last one 😅
So do I understand correctly that the S8 with the removable water tank is not compatible with the ultra dock’s water functions?
You're correct, sadly!
I was very surprised to see that only the S8 Ultra gets the dual rollers lift vs the other two, very strange to see such a difference with them all! Either way they look great! Now only to see how they will compare against the new S7MaxUltra and the Q Revo! Time will tell!
Time will tell. I should post a Q Revo video in a couple of weeks :)
@@RobomateTV what? is the revo going to be sold outside US?
This video was really helpful, I didn't realize the robots were different between them, I thought it was only the dock! I would probably go for the one with the ultra dock, I'm mainly interested for the mopping!
It’s not very different, but previous generations were very different between pro and standard so I think it’ll catch some people out. Glad it helped.
The S8 definitely seems the model to get. Such a heard decision to make between these two. They’re both great!
Thanks for the explanation and run through of the differences. I'm personally waiting for the "S9 Pro Ultra Mega Zero X1 Platinum".
Christmas edition with racing stripes...
The price of the pro ultra is high, but I really like how hands free it is. Does the dock ever get dirty from washing the mop?
Yes it does, it needs occasional maintenance
That's really amazing! Loving your reviews
Absolutely brilliant video. Everything I needed to know to make my decision.
Good video! I don't know if I should wait for the next generation of the Ecovacs X1 Omni compared or purchase the S8 series.
Hmm unless they’ve updated the app I’d say this at the moment
Great run down on the naming convention, made much more sense laid out like that.
I'm a huge fan of hands off operation and have become a convert to the mopping (used to think it was a gimmick), so I guess I'd have to go for the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra. Not a fan of the fixed tank/mop, but the autoclean/dry dock is a must have. Having to flip the robot to change the pads looks to be a PITA though.
I believe there is a plumbing addon for the Ultra that autofills and empties the clean/dirty water tanks, which sounds really cool but I have no idea where I would fit that in my house :)
Re the mopping change of heart - I recently got a Dreame Z10 Pro (awesome vacuum), it just has a little onboard tank with an electric pump which I initially dismissed.
@@RobomateTV Ah, thanks, good to know.
Love your reviews! I'm still undecided between the Dreame and the S8 Pro Ultra...
Did you manage to make a decision?
Thank you for explaining the Pro/Ultra differences! Now I just need a Pro Ultra to go on sale
Ah I just saw your other comment on the Eufy X9 video. Id go Pro Ultra personally :)
Hi - I have pets and only tile and hardwood floors. Which bot would you recommend? I was considering S8 Ultra or M6 (given i have no carpet at all)
Hello, with all these upgrades, can the S8 or S8 Pro now uses cleaning solution for mopping? Thanks.
I'll settle for a plain S8 and regular dock at this point in time lol. Great videos!
Itll be great to have a roborock s8 for upstairs to compare with the ecovac 👌 bought this like couple months ago still going strong 😍 with style
Great video!
This is a great comparison.
I live in a place with two levels, and I think the most ideal solution (eventually) would be to have a S8+ upstairs and the S8 Pro Ultra downstairs.
This is great to know. Thank you.
That sounds ideal to me!
Never consider a roborock until I watch this video, love it.
After all the research and videos on UA-cam I am convinced to get the S8 series. Roomba isn’t looking so hot now is it?
I’m sure they’ll come back but I wish they just used LiDAR
Nice comparison! It’s a shame there’s no bagless option for auto emptying. But either way I would be really happy to have one of this.
Agreed...
Yay spending more money for bags after paying 1500$ usd
Thank you for another great informative video…. Unfortunately still stuck in decision paralysis over here!
Just pick one/anything :) if you don’t currently have a robot anything will be an upgrade (*from a known brand 😅)
Have you tested or know if the Roborock can vacuum without issues tile floor that has slope of about 20 degrees from living room to kitchen?
So helpful to hear this review. So confusing to know which one to choose. I have the S7 V Max Ultra for our business and I find it brillaint but want to get one for home now but not sure if to go with the S8 or stick to the S7 model we've purchased previously. help please.
Depends if you’re happy with the S7 really. The improvements on the S8 won’t be as evident in day to day life as they are in the tests.
Waiting on price reduction to purchase any hybrid robo vacuums.
Nice video!
I'm really interested in the S8. I have two dogs and it's really hard to keep up with the shedding. Recently switched to a corded vacuum but would love a hands off approach.
It’ll be a life changer for you
I’ve had 3 IRobots and I’m thinking of coming to Roborock due to glowing reviews from our friends. Would love to have one to see how much better they are
Would love the S8 Pro Ultra
Right now it is an interesting time with Roborock, I'm looking at getting an all in one but the other option I'm looking at is, do I need the s8 ultra or will the S7 maxv work just as good as I expect the price of the S7 to drop once the S8's come into nz
I know there aren’t many S7 MaxV’s left so I suspect the price will be quite steady actually. Depends on your situation which one will be best.
I need an S8 Pro Ultra, I have twins that are almost 3 years old!
I saw a setup where they cut the base out of a kitchen cabinet so the dock could fit out of site inside it.
@@blackpaw29 I've seen a few of these sorts of ideas. Looks pretty easy to do too... I recommend testing it before you go cutting up your cabinetry though.
@@RobomateTV eh, nothing a little spackle couldn't fix up!
@@blackpaw29 Duct tape! lol
Fantastic comparison, thank you. I wonder whether we'll ever see outside of china options to plumb in the ultra bases to water supplies and drains to make them even more hands off?
Probably not this year anyway
Are all three models of robot compatible with the 2 different styles of dock? Just curious if it's possible to upgrade later - although it sounds like that's less of an option if dock can't be bought separately.
no they arent. And how would you plan to upgrade if you cannot get the docks
Great review again! Thank you!
Hi Tracey, it'll be back on very soon! There is a shortage at the moment but will be fine soon.
@@RobomateTV Thanks for quick reply.
@@teemacnz No problem! Always here if you need
Are you supposed to empty the S8 pro of any water after you’re done mopping? Also I’d be worried about getting water elsewhere while trying to fill the tank. This seems like a headache
Nope, just leave it as it is unless you are planning on storing it for a very long time. The ultra base fills the robot itself so no water everywhere
Thanks for the comparison!
Thanks for watching!
Fun learning ab the two different vacuums. Would definitely love one. One day.
