Growing up in the 1970's, everybody had a record player, and everybody had Frampton Comes Alive! on display in their vinyl collections. I have countless memories of people wearing out the grooves on that record. Absolutely legendary. To this day, it's a permanent fixture on classic rock radio stations and between the guitar work and infectious groove, still holds up as well as it ever has.

Saw Frampton live at the July 2,1977 Day on the Green show in Oakland. He was the headliner, and The Outlaws, Santana, and Lynyrd Skynyrd played before him. He gave a great performance, but surprisingly, about a 3rd of the huge crowd left after Skynryd. At least that allowed me to move in to a better location to watch Peter. There's footage of Frampton from this show here on YT, besides the well-known video of Skynyrd playing Free Bird that everyone reacts to.

Interesting that you made the comment about Peter's singing at the beginning of this song emulating David Bowie a little bit. Peter and Bowie went to school together, and Peter's dad Owen was a school teacher (music) and taught Bowie. They were good friends and remained friends. So much so, that when Frampton's popularity waned in the 80's Bowie reached out to him and asked him to play guitar for him on one of his big tours. Frampton credits that for helping him get out of a serious depression. That's what I call a great Friend!!!

I did say turn table listening to those 2 albums through the Winter of 76 × 77, which was my senior year in high school we smoked a lot of jibbers an red choking hash under a glass that year an having a blast Just a great great performance I was blessed to be able to see him in a little outdoor concert in Palmdale, California, in the nineties for free, the very next night I believe he played in Pasadena ca 200 a ticket keep spreading the music around Brother, for me bostons 1st n this live album top 5 all time for listening pleasure❤

The long abiding love of my life. We saw him a few years ago and he was just as excited and just as in love with playing as he was back in the day He played as well if not better, he's a treat to hear but better to watch, his excitement and joy are contagious, he's in his own world and invites us in for just a bit.

BTW... Peter was a massive, serious Chick Magnet.... That look and talent together drove the women crazy. His concerts were a ton of fun for sure.

Actually contrary to what some believe,Peter was considered to be one of the select few who were considered to be one of the world's finest electric guitarists at that time...Ty harri ...it is always a pleasure to watch these

I'm old enough to have purchased "Frampton Comes Alive" when it came out and watch this episode of The Midnight Special when it aired.
If memory serves me correctly there was a radio cut of this that you missed out on so much. The album cut was around 14 minutes long.
    I miss the seventies.

It’s a talkbox Harri, not a vocoder. Frampton is one of the three masters of the talkbox that I know. He’s the only one who uses it with a guitar though. The other two are Roger Troutman and Teddy Riley, who use it with a synth. Teddy apparently has Roger’s talkbox by the way.

I encountered Peter Frampton's music when I was 7 years old. He has been my favorite for 50 years.

Oh man Harri!…..I’ll never forget when I first heard “Frampton Comes Alive”, was my brothers album & I just went nuts over it. That was 1982 & Jr High, still jammin out to it today. This song is in my top 20, just a masterpiece.
