Tim's such an awesome dude. I would love to see an alternate timeline where he gets the recognition he deserves. His work with Priest, Iced Earth, Yngwie and his other projects deserves more appreciation than he gets.
First of all...he had to replace Rob Halford....! That is insane already. BUT...he not only did it, he CRUSHED it! I LOVE his voice and thought he did many of the classic Priest songs with more power and more consistency. He isn't Halford. No one but Rob is...but he has a special and amazing voice and never gets the credit and recognition he deserves!
Both his two albums with Iced Earth are great. Personally, I think The Clouding caught on to me the most, but I can't really tell which song is best to listen to for Tim's entire registry to shine. He's seriously one of the most underrated singers I've ever heard of, just because so many people wanted the original singers to return to their respective bands, and didn't give Tim enough credit for his time with them.
He really has came into his own as a singer. The way he can easily go from sounding like Phil Anselmo of Pantera, to Rob Halford of Priest, to his more natural Ronnie James Dio type of voice is amazing.
This guy has a voice. saw him at a small venue in brisbane years ago. did not miss a note.. probably the best vocal performane ive ever seen and heard.
Ripper deserves a lot of credit for what he's done as a journeyman in the business. Stepping in and taking over for notable original lead singers of bands, essentially keeping those bands going during the hiatus of the original singer. Much respect to the man, great to see a spotlight shone on him here.
i'm sorry but you can't even begin to believe that. Halford is in the top 5 or 10 best metal frontmen of all time. Tim probably isn't even in the top 100. Tim's good, but he's nowhere near as charismatic, his voice doesn't have the feeling that Halford does. Tim's pitchy as hell, including in this clip, as Beth notes early on. She gave him a pass saying it was to build tension, but he's consistently flat here. find a video of Halford doing Diamonds and Rust. there's no comparison, Halford is king.

I think you should do a reaction to Cathedral Spires by Judas Priest from the Jugulator album with Ripper. His vocals are mental on the song, and you won't get copyright claimed because the band for some reason has tried to white wash this album from existence
@@rodrigorocha7282 To be perfectly frank, a big part of that is how the fans reacted to Ripper's time, just because he wasn't Halford. It's a crying shame because Tim was very much the vocalist to step into Halford's shoes.
Cathedral Spires is easily the best non Halford Judas Priest song that is underrated. For the last 27 years I've often imagined if only they went more towards that directions at least for an album or two. Instead we got generic songs and lyrics without even using his range at all sadly. I remember even as a teenager I was confused as to why most of their "new" songs were generic, no high notes.
You think that is insane Tim also some MASSIVE high notes during Roadrunner united 25th anniversary concert where he sang Abigail by king diamon, Alison hell by annihilator and Curse of the pharaohs by mercifull fate Just some nuts stuff.
I was lucky enought to see ripper on both priest tours, but also with malmsteen and his vocals i could feel his vocals at least 5 or 6 rows deep onto the crowd. One of the strongest voices i have ever witnesed live.He was out of this world.
I've seen this legend live, I knew who he was, but didn't tell my friend, and at one point where Tim let free his awesome voice my friend turned to me, and I said: Yeah, he's Ripper Owens for ya!
Loosely based on him. I remember when it came out Ripper and Judas Priest rejected it mainly on how the movies portrayed the dismissal of the original singer.
Tim is great. The only singer to successfully take on the place of a legend. And he has done it with so much character, personality and respect. He sings the songs originally recorded by Halford in a way that fulfills the highest expectations, but never sounding like he's imitating him. And the two studio albums he recorded with Judas Priest are also great, with a lot of hidden gems. And his technique… oh boy! If could achieve half of what he does…
Good friends with his daughter and son in law. Seen a few of his acoustic shows at his bar. Just an amazing singer and performer. His kids also have amazing vocals too.
Not only is Tim a great singer, but he’s also a very humble and down-to-earth guy. He’s currently in a band called Three Tremors, with Sean Peck from Cage and Harry Conklin from Jag Panzer.
This song was written by Joan Baez, a folk singer back in the 60's and Judas priest did a nice remake of it, both versions are very good, it is speculated that she is referring to Bod Dylan on it, but she has deny it.
You should hear his version of Mr Crowley (originally by Ozzy) with Yngwie Malmsteen on guitar. I don't know if there's a live version, but you've just heard that he sounds exactly the same live as he does on tape. It will chill your spine.
He is one of the greatest singers ever. I love Ripper and I love Priest. If you really want to hear a song that shows everything that he can do. Clean, high, heavy, everything. Check out the Judas Priest song, Blood Stained. Or for just clean, epic, Judas Priest, Cathedral Spires.
Ripper is a great singer who had the "unfortunate" task of replacing 2 popular singers in 2 different bands (Halford in Priest and Matt Barlow in Iced Earth). Many fans from both bands did not accept him and you could see that in the audience turnout at shows. I remember going to a small festival years back where Priest w/Ripper were headlining and when Priest took the stage a good portion of the crowd walked out. Fuckin' sad. Tim Owens is a vocal beast for sure. His cover of 'Abigail' by King Diamond is spot-on. I enjoy his live performance on Judas Priest '98 Metal Meltdown almost in it's entirety. Really only have a small issue with the fact he is not able to hit the same notes on Painkiller as Rob Halford did in the studio version.. but for his potential vocal range he did a helluva job so I cannot fault him for having a lower base vocal range. Wish I owned the 'Jugulator' album so I could listen to it at work along with 'Demolition' album. Vastly underrated Judas Priest albums. Also, a sidenote.. he was on an episode of 'Bar Rescue' a few years back. Was kinda funny watching him get reamed by Jon Taffer lol. He's such a sport ;)
