Ripper is for sure one of my favorite singers, ever since the first time I heard him. Really amazing voice but it seems he’s always filling in for other legends in other people’s bands. Always a bridesmaid and never a bride, so to speak. He deserves much, much more credit, he’s a legend in his own right.
@betterthansex123 He done many of his own projects and solo works. Go listen to them. You can't just listen to big name bands from the 80's if you want to hear new music.
He caught a bad rap for filling i don't think the band was fair to him.behind closed doors he loved Halford idolized him as we all do our heroes I seen him here in Lubbock texas in like 97 or say my memory isn't what it used to be and he brought he always will I love Tim the ripper
IMO, Ripper did the definitive version of this song at Milwaukee's Summerfest 2002. The entire show was broadcast live, and I'd love to have seen them do an official release of that show.

When Halford left JP they found Ripper and it was a good substitution, when UDO left Accept they found Tornillo, AC/DC found a good screaming vocal,BS found Dio and only Nazareth and Queen failed.

The true test of a vocalist for me. How they perform the material faithful to the record. The test for a different vocalist should be the same. When I saw Tim's performance with Priest he was phenomenal! The criteria for that night for me came down to two songs for his acceptance. Beyond the Realms of Death and Victim of Changes. He totally owned both songs. Mind you Rob Halford is my all time favorite. However, the voice only holds up for so long. Why can't more people accept this. It's a fact no matter how you care for it. Like any instrument it wears out eventually. At that time ( Rippers Reign ) he was the better suited singer for the band. Yes the downtuned a bit. Ripper didn't have 4 octaves to work with. He did have great tone and control. No he can't even duplicate what he did in his high end . He's still one of metal's best. Listen to his original live rendition of Diamonds and Rust from his first live effort with Priest. Personally I don't think there is a better version.

@@murderface3r Nobody asked.
When he goes for that first high note, it takes me someplace else. Absolutely unreal.
100%
I love the way Ripper sings Priest. He was a perfect fit for Judas Priest after Rob left the band!
Fucking agreed. Not quite as refined as Halford but so much strength. He fucking nails it!
Halford should’ve kept going with his solo stuff and just let Owens continue on with Priest

Ripper is amazing, his performance on the gettysburg trilogy by Iced Earth is second to none
One of the best vocalist's in metal.
Somebody should popularize this amazing singer!
3:28 - 3:35
Vibrato in time with the drums. Outstanding!
Ripper, we are indebted to you for keeping the old ship afloat, you are the best.
I am never ready for that. Guy barely tried. Insane.
Love this song ripper is a bloody good vocalist
Hes a good bar owner now. I saw him on Bar Rescue on T.V.

Super performance
Oh my God! How I love this song. Nice job, Ripper, as usual.
My brother. He is such an incredible vocalist.
Gotta respect THE RIPPER
Fuck yeah.
Love this version...It somehow refers back to the Baez original, as well as to the brilliant Priest cover. Ripper is killing it here.

Lyrics
Well I'll be damned
Here comes your ghost again
But that's not unusual
It's just that the moon is full
And you happened to call
And here I sit, hand on the telephone
Hearing a voice I'd known
A couple of light years ago
Heading straight for a fall
As I remember your eyes

"My poetry was lousy, " you said
Where are you calling from?
A booth in the Midwest
Ten years ago
I bought you some cuff links
You brought me something
We both know what memories can bring
They bring diamonds and rust
Well you burst on the scene
Already a legend
The unwashed phenomenon
The original vagabond
You strayed into my arms
And there you stayed
Temporarily lost at sea
The Madonna was yours for free
Yes the girl on the half-shell
Could keep you unharmed
Now I see you standing
With brown leaves falling around
An' snow in your hair
Now you're smiling out the window
Of that crummy hotel over Washington Square
Our breath comes out white clouds
Mingles and hangs in the air
Speaking strictly for me
We both could have died then and there
Now you're telling me
You're not nostalgic
Then give me another word for it
You, who are so good with words
And at keeping things vague
'Cause I need some of that vagueness now
It's all come back too clearly
Yes I loved you dearly
And if you're offering me diamonds and rust
I've alredy paid
sin dudas el mejor cantante para esta canción es Ripper y para when the eagles cry.

Originally by Joan Baez! Great song!
Honestamente, a performance do Ripper Owens supera a versão do Halford nessa canção.
