  • Today I show you how to repair a leaking VE injection pump on my 1st gen cummins. The leak on the injection pump was dripping from the throttle body on the top of the pump. The leak was coming from the o ring on the throttle shaft. I replaced the o ring and the bushing that the throttle shaft seats in and it solved the leaking problem.
    This video can also be used as a guide to replace your governor spring. I upgraded to a 3200 rpm 366 spring. It definitely gave the truck a bit more pep when on the throttle.
    I purchased these parts from my local diesel supplier that carries bosch injection pump parts.
    Stay tuned for more videos!

    Thank you so very much... You saved me from poverty by teaching me how to change a $0.13 o ring instead of a $1400.00 repair bill to change out the injection pump on a a 1992 Mitsubishi Delica. I can not thank you enough!!!! Amazing video. Liked subscribed and would love to take you out for a coffee when we come tour Vancouver Island. Much love from the Eastern shores of the Georgia Strait.

      Those ball end allen wrenches made it easy...I didn't show it on camera but I had removed the throttle before I realized my current allen wrenches weren't going to work so I had to put everything back together until I got the right tools.

      @@OvensGarage well than I guess I'm definitely gunna half to get some of those Allan wrenches beforehand. I just upgraded my auto transmission to one from a second gen so I have a lockup tourq converter maybe I'll do a vid on all that was involved in that.

    Alright, Pro Tip: If/When you strip the hex head of the hard to reach hex bolt with your ball hex wrench, measure your idle screw protrusion, remove the idle screw, put a T30 on a wobble head, shove that in the stripped hex, remove.

    Did this to my 89 cummins. Same parts same everything. Bushing is longer just like yours. Star wheel does not stick out of bushing for the Throttle alignment. Doesn't look like yours does either. Go to put everything together best I can and the nut can't reach the threads to tighten down. Are 89s different? I'm thinking of cutting new bushing to the length of the old one. Any ideas?

    I did this and now my truck won’t stay running. As soon as I takeoff my foot off the throttle, the truck dies immediately. I don’t know what I did wrong. I tried to be careful, but not sure what to do. Lol on the bright side at least I stopped the leak!

      You probably indexed the throttle shaft incorrectly. Take it off and try to index it again and make sure it's lined up right.

    • @OvensGarage
      @OvensGarage  Рік тому

      You can purchase a whole kit but if you can tell exactly where the leak is coming from I'd just replace the bad o ring or seal where the leak is.

  • @nikdog419
    @nikdog419 Рік тому +1

    Came to learn how to fix the throttle leak, leaving wondering if you had upgraded the valve springs to 3200RPM valve springs prior. Or are the stock ones good for 3200? and you only need to upgrade for 3600 and 4200?

    • @OvensGarage
      @OvensGarage  Рік тому

      I decided to upgrade to the 3200 rpm spring while I was in there. The 3200 spring is an all around good spring for daily driving to get a little bit more throttle response out of the truck.

    • @nikdog419
      @nikdog419 Рік тому +1

      @@OvensGarage I imagine so. The G360 ratios have terrible shift points for 2500rpm. I almost always bounce off the governor shifting from 1st to 2nd. And each shift starts you below useful boost RPM.
      Err... Well my interpretation of 1st and 2nd. I put a 4+1 speed box truck shift knob on because it makes more sense than the stock Dodge one. (Mine goes L 1 2 3 4 R)

  • @valve-do3jc
    @valve-do3jc 2 роки тому +1

    You did it all wrong… take the sleeve off the full power screw, turn the screw in wile the truck is running, till the truck runs away. Use the pice of wood to stop the engine. Back the screw out til engine stops running away. There you go FULL POWER. good vids keep it up.
    Nice camera work not many people take the time to set up. 👌🏼

    I went back to the pump and I did everything that you told me to do I checked the clicks on it the throttle prime did everything everything you suggested and I still can't get it started it'll turn over just won't start I checked all the wine all the solenoid everything's hooked up please help me with this cuz I need to get this truck on

    • @OvensGarage
      @OvensGarage  Рік тому

      It's either the fuel shutoff solenoid not getting power or the throttle isn't indexed properly. I'm betting it's the throttle index if you didn't touch the FSS wires. When you installed the throttle shaft you need to rotate it counter clockwise so the spring pulls the right way before you index it. It's pretty easy to mess up so pull it off and try it again you might have better luck next time

    • @ernestmoore3384
      @ernestmoore3384 Рік тому +1

      @@OvensGarage I did that and I rotated it when I stuck it up through the shaft and I rotated it to the top left counterclockwise just as you said.
      I was wondering do I have to disconnect the battery to reset the brain for it to operate ride or I guess I'm just throwing that out there? I'm going to take it back off tomorrow and move it up on two clicks to the left and a little over almost four and a half clicks to the right. Right now it's two and a half and four and a half or four and a quarter tomorrow move it or click each way see what that does. As far as the solenoid and all that everything I cleaned all the wiring and reconnected all that and it's still won't fire up it turns over but it won't fire up and when I took the top part of the accelerator pump off again today have plenty of fuel in there where I primed it it just won't start I'm going to try it one more time to see if I can get it set right. Thank you very much for responding back to me I appreciate the help.

    • @OvensGarage
      @OvensGarage  Рік тому +1

      @@ernestmoore3384 worst case scenario to ruel out the fuel solenoid you can take it out and remove the plunger and spring. I'm betting it's just not indexed right. It can be finicky but once you get it it'll be fine.

    • @OvensGarage
      @OvensGarage  Рік тому +1

      Usually the no start situation after doing this job means either you indexed your throttle shaft incorrectly or your fuel shutoff solenoid isn't plugged in or receiving 12 volts.

    • @ernestmoore3384
      @ernestmoore3384 Рік тому +1

      @@OvensGarage I will check both thank you because I'm pretty sure I did everything right I watched your video as I did it and I watched your video several times before I did it. I will check that throttle shaft but I'm sure I did it a little over two clicks down on the left and four clicks down on the right the same way it was. May have a bad neck connection on the solenoid I'll check that thank you and I'll let you know. Thanks for the response I really appreciate it that's the first time I ever did one and I rebuilt all kinds of carburetors and everything but the only thing I did what you did on this accelerator pump didn't take it completely loose for me and I just took that top compartment off.
