TURBO on a Jeep Gladiator, You won't believe the result

- I was looking at other options when it comes to boosting a Jeep JL or Gladiator engine. An LS engine is not often an easy option. A turbo is a much easier price tag to swallow, so I gave it a shot on our shop Jeep Gladiator. The result is surprising, considering how much this damn thing costs. I’ve no idea how I got to this video. But it seems to me you did a great job at a public service announcement. I just got a Gladiator and Prodigy is now on my “a company I will never do business with”. Thank you.
No idea how you got here but you own a gladiator?! What
I started watching thinking maybe Prodigy sorted out their issues after the lite brite debacle, but noooo, they still selling a paperweight.
That sucks. But I’m glad that you’re spreading the word.
I appreciate this information I have had a few customers ask about this kit and I was hesitant because of what happened with lite brite now I know it wasn’t a fluke and I can make sure my customers steer clear of this product. Great work and sorry you had to waist the time and money but that is what a great shop will do for their customers 👍🏻
Adventure Bound Offroad ours definitely wasn’t a fluke. We have installed multiple turbo kits on cars we race and have never had an issue.
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 you ever pull the 3.6 engine apart to see what failed? the Rod Knock was caused by a spun bearing?
I was gonna buy one too, forget it now, i will never deal with that fly-by-nite Co. 🤬
Not sure I want to waste time watching this, now I've read your review... 😂. 😁👍
Same kit that blew LiteBrite's JL up...
Thanks for the heads up Exodus Jeeps
THANK YOU FOR TESTING THIS.
Thanks for the heads up, definitely not going this route
I was just about to pull the pin and buy this kit for my new Gladiator. My friend actually has this kit... now uninstalled and back in the box. Told me of his experience and about the videos online I should watch. Saved my wallet from taking a huge hit. Thanks
Definitely understand thanks for the reply
Thanks for the video. This made up my mind on installing any Turbo, especially Prodigy. Thier techs sound like real A-holes.
I know a dozen JLs who have blown motors or have terrible time with their customer service. I also have emails from them stating they wouldn’t even look the vehicle over since we were right up the street from them at EJS
Almost like you have some first hand knowledge with dealing with them 😂
Love how the bashed you guys, talked shit, yet literally ever brand, shop, or person that has met you guys has never said negative shit about you two.
Eyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Litebright! We all know you guys were basically the first big jeepers to experience this on video. Sadly within 2 weeks of your video my 3.6 decided to blow all its coolant down my exhaust from this kit. >.
@@kjhaglfjhgfasd how did the system blow coolant all down your exhaust?
@@spencerlarue4371 funny, i have not seen Prodigy Performance once bash on Lite Brite, or talked shit about there Rod Knocked engine. I can tell you Rod knock is typically due to a spun bearing. Look up what causes a spun bearing. bet it comes down to oiling only. Not a tune, or a turbo, or detonation :)
@@spencerlarue4371 Funny I have never seen Prodigy Performance Bash or talk smack about lite brite and their rod knocked Jeep. rod knock aka spun bearing? check out spun bearing cause. interesting to know this is caused by lack of oiling. like if you are on a steep incline and your exhaust starts to below out white smoke. maybe your oil is gone places it should have, now you have less oil to keep the bearing from coming into contact with you crankshaft. I have seen two of their videos displaying this. No tune, No power adder wether it is a turbo, supercharger, or Nitrous will cause this.
They had the balls to say you had an ego problem. If you read their messages then you can clearly see which party had the ego problem. It’s called PROJECTING! 😂😂
yassss you couldn't be more spot on, ppl that spend the money will never admit the faulty product. I personally would have just went to a MOPAR specific tuning facility to have it corrected. I went through this on my 2005 TJ sprintex supercharger install.
Great video. It’s clearly the tune
Man you opening up to everything and explaining well earned you a sub. Great video bro.
After Stepchild it was a wrap for Prodigy. This is just the nail in the coffin.
Thanks for sharing your experience with this setup. I believe that the flash program isn't fully integrating in the vehicles management system. When I spoke to the service guys at the dealership I use they explained that they need to get a specific code to enable them to adjust for tire size. That's why I purchased the Taser, much easier and I can change much more.
Glad to see speaking out, think more need to. When I seen this first thing I thought about was oh no think same kit Lite Brite had and was junk. Not sure how the company can still be doing business like that the way they treat customers. Hope many learn from these videos and not risk using them. Sorry to hear how this has turned out for you guys but not alone.
Yeah there are alot of companies like this. I’m glad there are guys like these who have the experience and know how to do these mods and test them for us poorer folks who can’t afford to do this kind of R&D.
Turbo Kit was fine, all he needed was a competent tuner who are in large supply for the HP Tuners platform. It was Idiotic to pull the kit because he was too lazy to get a good tuner
I had this kit on my JL and i had the same problems as you and they gave me the run around, ended up taking it to a dyno/tuner and they spent 14 hours checking everything and Changing the tune. it turned out that the "USA MADE" waste gate was mostly china parts and didn't want to work correctly ended up getting a Gfb and changed the fuel pump to a high flow one, solved my cold start problems but the "TUNE" was dog crap, way to rich. plus we ended up removing the stock computer and putting in a DiabloSport PCM. Been running it for a bit now no problems and i would highly recommend you change to a 5w30 oil. Maybe give a procharger a go. its about the same price
Hell yeah man, thank you for posting this!!! This is the kind of info people that have this kit need. Unfortunately from a business perspective this doesn’t make sense for us. We are here to run parts we would sell and install, and if a kit takes as much work as you say it does to make it work properly, then that’s a no-go for us. I’m happy to hear you were able to make it work out for you though man, that’s awesome.
Steven LaFrance so you’re is running fine? No issues at all? What boost level and what power does it make? What fuel 91 or 93?
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 when we dyno it, it was 346.9hp @5400 RPM and 313.6 Ftlb @5700rpm to the wheels and i run at 8psi should be higher but im still breaking in the engine. I run 94 Shell v power and so far its running fine no problems. but i also haven't really turned it up so we will have to see. and i only have 4.10 gears on 35's. the big thing tho is you need to run 5w30 oil and not the 0w20, they say the oil cant handle the temps, so i was told by the dyno shop. hopefully that answers all of your questions
Litebrite rod knocked their 3.6 with a turbo
Thanks
Lite bright had to go hemi swap after the turbo kit. Kevin said he worked with hp tuners forever and they could never get it right until they finally got rod knock and destroyed the motor
Just got a 2013 wrangler with a “Turbo” , day 2 overheating, week 2 blown motor 😢 . I’m rebuilding now ready to put the turbo back in and I seen your video.
Thank you !¡!
30k for a LS swap is as big a ripoff as prodigy's turbo kit
Great show. To the point. I learned a lot. Thanks. I have a 2023 wrangler 2.0. Make a show about boosting that unit.
I am a fan of lite brite.they sure were quick to throw them under the bus calling them a con artist.
Just goes to show you their true colors.
shawn orr Just watched this video. Funny they’re calling us the con artist & leeches after they refused to look at our Jeep in person & ghosted us like a bad relationship after telling us it was either bad gas or a bad install. We aren’t the one selling a product that destroys people’s engines.
Turbo begins the end!
Thanks for sharing! Looking for a turbo for my Mojave.
Hope they can get this right. There is a good size market for it if it can work. Thanks for sharing this with us. Hopefully you get a chance to try it out again if they get things sorted out.
Nope. Worst customer service of any company I’ve ever worked with. They should be put out of business.
Guys we had to 2018 jeeps engines fail because of Prodigy. We had both jeeps done at Total Auto pros here in phoenix. They installed per Prodigy and did all work on these jeeps and did a great job. Total auto and myself got no help from prodigy just that it was install , bad gas etc. After a day of running things started to change . My jeep started to knock and gas smell constantly.Wives jeep blew a rod after 4 weeks. We actually ran in to Kevin from Lite Brite in arizona when he was trying to get help (prodigy was no help only keep saying bad install) and we got someone that recommended Extreme motors in tempe. He was also very frustrated to say the least. We also had a few more people here in arizona call me with same problems.HP tuners should in know way helkp with prodigy either. After my engine failed i sent my 2 door jeep to Jeff over at bruiser conversions. Jeep is one bad ass now. The cost is close to 200k build on 2 door.Jeff even long armed my 2 door.My wifes jeep we got a new engine from jeff and had are local dealer put in it. I also called WES the owner of prodigy i told him i dont want to hear his bs just refiund my money. He agreed to take back and sell them and get with me on price. After 2 months of being down there we call and the kid mike says oh it doesnt have all the parts we cants sell it. What a fucking joke and full of excuses. We just bought a fully loaded launch edition with 1400 miles on it and will spend the money on a v8 the way it should be with all the added weight. Exodus Jeeps is right These guys seem like pros. Sorry you guys had to put up with this also.My email is sales@cnroofing.com Chris if you want to chat
Chris Kriaris hey chris. Glad your v8 is working. Sorry we’re all having to deal with this. Hopefully no more turbo kits are sold
You saved me money. I have a 2021 Mojave. I’m all about weight savings or I’d v8 swap it. I actually hit the jumps with it and I really don’t want an endo situation
I put the Sprintex SC on my jk, tune is ok, has a flat spot but over all the extra torque is amazing, 3.8-4.56-35s
nicely said... peace !
Great honest post. I’m wondering if anybody ever had transmission issues with these eight speed automatic‘s, with large tires and larger axles?
I was looking at their kit for my jk. But not anymore. I'll go with a Magnuson supercharger instead. Thanks for the video.
Very Cool of you to Take the Time and Document a NOT Ready for Prime Time Product! Bravo-Zulu!
Its gonna go boom.
Nope. We took it off before it caused damage
I just saw the Lite Brite video a couple of days ago... same story, except their motor was hosed.
I am glad you waited and showed us the problems Lite Brite waited until they blew there junk up to let us know
Great way to handle this man, props to you. Very mature great way to state your point but not be childish. More than what can be said for them. Thanks for the video, will not be buying any of their products. Not because they don’t work, but because how they handle unsatisfied customers.
Thanks man.
I owned this turbo kit on my jk years back and it was the same story from them. The only thing different with my story is I live in florida where the owner lives and had a shop owned by him install it. So they blamed all the problems on my stock engine due to high milage. After bringing my jeep back to them multiple times without the problems being fixed (rough idle and randomly stalling out) I pulled the system out. The last straw was while wheeling in Windrock TN going down a steep trail the jeep stalled out leaving me without brakes or steering. I let everyone know who is thinking about this kit to save their money. Sorry they got you too.
I’ve heard this story 100 times. Crooks
On going issue with this kit. I'll stick to sprintex.. had them in 3 jeeps and no issues
It's hard to believe that you went from a pis turbo to a supercharger now a most wanted crate out of the three the v8 is in my opinion the best choice I'm looking forward to this for my jeep first need to get the axles and more lift some 40s then power trane its a prosesse since I have no means of fabricating this kind of stuff like your videos thanks
I have one. Same experience. Every problem is someone else’s fault! Probably shouldn’t use the taser and Tuning is very important and Prodigy doesn’t get that. Torco accelerator is a must. 91 octane isn’t enough.
Good honest review, I'd never buy anything from them just from their cappy response......let alone their package is junk!
I smell a class action lawsuit! LMAO
back when I had bought my 2013 Civic Si a few other friends had too. one of my friends got his tuned with a tuner who i later ended up using as well but my friends civic did a very similar thing. it got tuned it made power and it was running really great up until it sat over night that same night and the next day it was running like shit i don't remember the exact reason of what caused it but it was something in the the vehicle computer that was trying to make it change it's tune as if it was trying to like reverse the effects or something. the tuner had eventually figured out what it was and fixed it with the tune on my car. the friend of mine ended up going to a different tuner. but it is what it is. this place seems like they have a tuner that maybe doesn't know exactly what is going on and can't figure it out or something but their customer service sounds terrible to be coming after you and other jeepers like they are.
You're here with straight talk and they turn childish and call you all names. As one commenter said, that's enough in it self to avoid their Uuuh... stuff. Thanks for the video.
Great video. Was looking to turbo my gladiator and as prodigy was the only player in that game but it looks like I'll go with a supercharger from someone else.
Kudos for actually calling out a company for their failure to remedy a problem. Most youtubers will NOT for fear of retribution, I guess.
I installed a RIPP SC kit a few months ago on a 17 JKU with UD60's and 40's. It did pretty good, then took it to a tuner and dyno a couple weeks ago and the RIPP tune was way off, within 30 minutes we had increased RWHP and TQ by 100/100. I left the dyno with 300 HP and 300 TQ and couldn't be happier. I wish I had 30K, but this will have to do for now.
The newer 3.6 has higher compression and a different computer, and maybe that’s the issue. Hard to say without someone holding up their end of the deal and adjusting the tuning.
@@Exodus4x4 no doubt, I hve not heard much good about that particular turbo company including a couple blown 3.6's I was just giving my little tidbit so that others would know that a SC does have positive results if they are looking for a cheaper route. I have absolutely nothing to do with the company that supplied the product I am using except as a consumer.
Tunes from this companies will always be off, they are not tuners or dont want to spend the salary to hire a real tuner, whipple sends it to a 3rd party tuner and adjust Tue tune for the vehicle to just run ok, and wont open it all up to play it safe, so the tunes suck, you have to get a custom tune regardless if they provided one or not
That company just don’t know what they’re doing
Thanks for this video, I shared it to my Facebook friends. You have a nice shop and cool Jeep, too bad I’m way out here in North Carolina. I’m pretty sure that company will never make it with their non support and insulting customers. Good luck out there and if you’re ever in NC or down at the coast/ please let me know, I’ll buying the first round.
Thanks man! Yeah it’s too bad, we just hope other will learn from our mistakes.🍻
that setup did not work for lite brite tore there motor up, they did not help them either
Yep, they aren’t that great.
@@Future-Preps35 Rod knock on turbo-ed motors almost always come from detonation. Piston is literally driven back into the crankshaft, if the tune keeps moving because the ECU is trying to correct it, then its just a matter of time.
Good to know, I am researching turbos for my JL and now I know which one not to use.
Personally, I’d wait a couple more years before throwing forces induction on your JL. Give them a chance to iron it all out.
Exodus Jeeps: Yea I’ll take my time on the upgrade, thanks for the response and advice!
Maximus Durden please do not add it to your vehicle at this time. The tuning is not sorted
LS swap would be a amazing. The turbo option is disappointing. Driving from Phoenix to New Braunfels would be a great trip. .Loved the flipping off the turbo. Ya just don’t see that.
10:30 is when he finally steps on it.
Love the intro music same intro music as vice grip garage
What about bolting on headers high flow exhaust and intake? There are other ways of making power? Great video thanks for putting the truth out there
Actually we did add a cold air intake since we tossed the stock one, lol. Now it’s just really loud when you get into it with the throttle and we gained .6 mpg🤷♂️
Damn, was hoping it would work.
That engine bay is bloody hell
They were professional enough to comment on your post🤣
Damnnnn another shitty experience with them. Hope engine is still good. Luckily you didn’t have it on long.
Turbo kit for an application that requires low RPMs delivery?
Will wait fir the Jeep Gladiator diesel.
If you're looking to boost this penastar, look at sprintex superchargers. they have a very nice setup and have years with these platforms. Magnuson also has a 3.6l kit that is a power maker, the Sprintex is more of a low end booster not a top end kit.
Coming out with the supercharger review video this week.
Should a set of headers be used also?
But what about people who want a LT 🤣 great video by the way
Damn bumper slappers...... : D
Lol
May be next time try it with a super charger like the one uses in challenger red eye or the gt500. If you do make it work as daily driving then I'd send my truck to you too.
Jeep Gladiator with a diesel/tuner will be perfect. Perfect horsepower/ torque combination
Love your channel! What gear company do you recommend?
I have to wonder if the Vortec kit for the 3.6L in the 2015 - 2017 Wrangler would work on the Gladiator. I would imagine the motors are almost the same.
No, they tweaked the pentastar 3.6 in 2018. Has higher compression and other changes
Gotta say.. I was hoping that y’all had better luck then Kevin did... clearly not and the video was a great laugh!! Hopefully someone will figure out tuning better..
lol "bumper slapper"
I wouldn't do business with any company that responded like that.
Bubba awesome video wish I could afford a new JT. I have an 06 LJ with a crappy clunky suspension . What would you charge to put coilovers on my LJ and would you even recommend coilovers? Just a rough estimate I understand that you would have to have the Jeep to do an actual estimate.
That’s a great question but there’s so many options it’s hard to answer here. I’d prefer to see the Jeep!
Im glad I have seen this vid. I will not buy their products. Thanks for the info.
Check out RIPP super chargers serious hp gains for 3.6L penstar
Try ripp supercharger kit. They have one for the jeeps
Coming out with a supercharger review video this week. Stay tuned
Was going between this and Edelbrock super charger. Price point is about the same. Any thoughts on it?
I have been looking at the Procharger for my JT Rubicon. Was considering this kit until your video and the lite bright video I’ve changed my mind. I’m not looking to make a ton of power just get a little extra bump due to all my overlanding gear. Would you recommend the pro charger with sock axles 5.13 gears 4.5 lift on 37’s?
I’d recommend the Hamburgers supercharger.
Exodus 4x4 thank you...
i'm kind of happy I've never had a popular vehicle that had "Kits" now, i had to learn how to fab and tune a turbo in instead of trusting some company, yeah sounds 1000% like a tune fuck up, cant just throw a turbo on, flash in a base tune and expect it to work, takes a while to get it ironed out
I would like more power in my Jeep. What do you think about adding a supercharger to a 2013 Wrangler Sierra?
A Hemi
Good thing you called them out on their BS! Maybe they needed a kick in the ass, company's like that should be called out!Too good job! If a company is that butt hurt over you ask for help then telling them what's going on they give you either wrong information then come back and harass you for 18 hours you know you called them out on their BS! LOL Good for you man! There's a lot of people that's been bent over and taken advantage of by different shops, it's good to know that honest people are still out there, don't forget to save all those emails so if it goes to court you can have the evidence to shove in their face for harassing you! Geez
Could you do a supercharger vs turbo kit comparison video for a wrangler? Maybe with the newer JL’s?
We’ve done a supercharger video!
@@Exodus4x4 i was just watching it haha! So whats the recommended route(for reliability) for the new JLs?
Great video. Definitely keeping away from this now!
Well, this didn't go like I expected.
watched a couple of kids put a pro-charger on their Gladiator. It rips.
They never own the problem you're not the only one who was fooled, I'm still saving for the ls
Hell yeah! Let me know when you’re ready!
Working on!😎
Get a Ripp supercharger I have one on my JK they are very good systems but there do bunch of testing on there product before they release probably unlike prodigy lol
Why not try supercharging?
Have you guys tried any of the super chargers out their for the 3.6 like the Edelbrock.
No, and we won’t be. Next time it’ll be a Hemi swap.
Exodus Jeeps wondering why? While nobody seems to be able to get that turbo kit to work there seems to be a lot of success with the superchargers.
Coming out with the supercharger review video this week.
That is a good chunk of change for a turbo kit and I would hope it would work out of the box, but would it have worked if you bolted it up and got a custom dyno tune? After getting a tune on my Subaru I'm a strong advocate of a dyno tune because it is a much more controlled environment.
Several people have tried custom tuning without success. Prodigy should be supporting tuning like they advertise they do and the tuning should be adequate, otherwise they shouldn’t sell it. That my business perspective.
@@Exodus4x4 Ahh dang that is interesting that a custom tune doesn't even work. But yeah, I totally agree that they should back up their word if that is what they are advertising.
Hmmm, you would think Prodigy would change their tune (pun intended) after the Lite Brite situation, bad news travels very fast on this platform. Thoughts on RIPP supercharger for the Gladiator?
tune would not be the issue. lite brite spun a bearing causing rod knock. that is an oiling issue not tune.. if it was a tune issue and they had true detonation they would have sent a rod through the side of the block. Exodus refused to listen to instruction, that was their biggest issue. they were convened it was the tune from the beginning and nothing was going to change their mind. I daily drive a JT and my wife a JL both Turbocharged by Prodigy on the same tune file Exodus had received. both my Jeeps are on 37" tire one with 4.10 gear 1 with 5.13 I have not experienced the issues he has referred to.. so how could it be the tune?
Detonation hammers the upper half of the rod bearing and eventually cause it to spin. Or it explodes the top of the piston/ring lands. It don't just instantly toss a rod out the side. I think prodigy needs to be more cooperative with customers whether it's their fault or not. A bad story travels faster than a good.
Sounds like Michael works for prodigy replying to every comment about the turbo blowing the motor.
You should've talked to Litebrite before installing that junk on tour Gladiator. Same exact thing happened to them almost just like you are saying. Oops! I should've watched til the very end. Sorry! I'm glad yall dont have a blown engine like they did.
This is pretty interesting, and yeah most people don’t have the budget for a V8 swap. It’ll be interesting to see how this does long term.
It didn’t. It’s now in a box in the attic. I suggest watching the entire video.
Exodus Jeeps oh, got sidetracked LOL will finish watching.
Have heard lots of bad things about this newer Pentastar not being able to get tuned properly.
Gonna do a 6.4L swap hopefully this fall.
Another note, love some of the editing and cinematic effects, but maybe double check your volume, it’s seems like it gets really loud with the music so I turn it down, and then when you started taking again I could’nt hear you.
Spending a lot of time editing as well, and learning sometimes it’s helpful to have other insights.
NOT BEING RUDE OR JUDGEMENTAL at all, just didn’t know if you ever go through and watch the full video a little while after editing to see how it all flows.
Either way, glad to find your channel
Not at all, I appreciate the feedback!🤘😎
Exodus Jeeps wow, just getting to the end of this where they BLEW YOU GUYS UP with rude comments holy cow. No matter what you NEVER talk to a customer like that. Especially in writing! Where about are you guys located?
