    You could throw a light flywheel on it in order to keep the wheel spinning, but the chain is causing a lot of parasitic loss for the transfer of torque, i may recommend a tensioner wheel added, along with swapping out a few parts for a shortened version of a serpentine belt for a vehicle, potentially allowing for more transfer of energy, while maintaining speed and tension

  • @SplotchyInk
    @SplotchyInk 3 місяці тому +13

    A very fun episode.
    Now *obviously* if you didn't care about safety this would have been electric power, because that was kind of the main thing about the Ghiza's Wheel was that it 'ground into' enemies. I think with that the effectiveness (and I imagine using an in hub motor like you'd use for an electric bike) would reduce the complexity and failure rate of the device.
    Still, with what you could feasibly do, it was interesting seeing such a 'device' tested.

  • @refan5876

    You could have used springs to power it and give you the better idea of how it would be used as both hand would be there for the use of the weapon, this would limit the damage loss of control would have due to the finite power in a spring over the longer lasting battery and motor setup. Good video and I'm glad you are doing well with the channel.

  • @TheHatShallDie
    @TheHatShallDie 3 місяці тому

    Fun fact, the whirligig saw from Bloodborne could shed the "saw" part entirely and become a mace. Seems helpful when you're dealing with a weapon that might get stuck, and also makes you just slamming it into Tony without winding up somewhat lore-accurate.

    To be honest there are ready made tools for this kind of thing. Take a motorized weed wacker or tree limb trimmer ( I own one and use it to cut down small-ish trees), get a larger sawblade and sharpen it so you can spin it with the hooked ends facing the target and you'd have a relatively safe and functional Gheeza's Wheel for around the same that you spent on the individual parts. All in all, not a bad performance for a weaponized bike crank weapon held together by pins and glue.

  • @matthewhandzus9397
    @matthewhandzus9397 3 місяці тому +24

    In game it uses magic to spin. We don't have magic but we do have machine. You can take machine from chainsaw and add it on that. With off/on switch.

    • @bolbyballinger
      @bolbyballinger 3 місяці тому +16

      Sure, he could.
      But those blades were coming loose from a hand crank.
      Best case scenario with a chainsaw they just completely dangle becoming near useless.
      Worst case scenario they snap off and fly back at the user.
      And be it hand crank or chainsaw, machines don't like getting suddenly stopped.
      Which is exactly what would happen in combat.

    Like other people suggested some possible upgrades to make this more "functional":
    - Use a brushcutter/weed eater/weed wacker for the drive chain/axle. This would be relatively light weight and less issues compared to the un-tensioned chain.
    - For powering it a modified low speed hand drill with grip safety toggle/trigger.
    - I'd be concerned with the sudden jolt if the blades did catch and the power source was trying to torque through it making it wrench from your control. So there would need to be a freewheel or something to keep this from happening.
    You could still use the frame and general setup you have for structure with these suggestions.

  • @hannibal_the_creative
    @hannibal_the_creative 3 місяці тому

    A few way to improve the design for real life would be:
    Using exact length chain, (even walmart and most super stores should sell bike chain repair sets that allow you to shorten your chain to an exact length.)
    Covering your chain with a shroud so it is protected from external damage and doesn't overspin. Shroud will keep the chain in relative shape.
    The blades could be attached in a more hinge like pattern, this would (theoretically) allow the blades to wiggle forward and back with the rotational force. Thus allowing them to slide off of targets that might get them stuck and stop the rotation of the wheel.
    Finding a way to attach an electric drill motor would be fascinating. Your crutch handle already resembles a gatling gun handle and putting a trigger on it would be magnificent. However I would suggest a battery powered one as they produce less force and I would suggest only using the drill to get the blades spinning and then when thrusting or swinging release the trigger and work only with acceleration.
    Lastly an arm strap at the back end might help with the unwieldiness of the weapon.
    Also although it looks like a polearm, maybe it is meant more to be used like a spear, with thrusting and using distance and only swinging the device as a last resort.
    Amazing job making the Ghiza Wheel I live it

    essentially just a brushcutter is an interesting point. Other ways to take this idea is to make it longer, and counterweight it a bit. Couch it like a lance. this way you could hold it with one arm, while turning the crank.(if not just attaching gas/electric motor, and backpack fuel/battery..)
    or, like Brush cutters. counter weight is in the back(motor). and they are carried at the hip, with a STRAP holding the weight/pivot point over the shoulders, freeing both hands to aim.

    Nice video. I think you should keep it together. Hear me out.
    I know it's expensive, but you're going to have the coolest damn pizza cutter on the block. 😂
    On a less ridiculous note, you could perhaps counteract the gyro effect by having another, much smaller but equally heavy flywheel type situation for the pommel.
    I know, it would have to be enclosed somehow so you don't get clothes, appendages or scenery stuck in it, make another point of failure, making it that much more complex and costly and it would not be true to the in game representations (unless I'm missing something). On the other hand, it could potentially make it a much more feasible implement of dooooooom. Not saying it would be anywhere near a sword in it's simplicity, elegance or ease of use.
    A pizza cutter of doom is still a pizza cutter of doom, though.
    Edit: Spelling and grammar derps.

    Taking into account that this weapon originates from Bloodborne, i think it makes more sense in the context of the game. Considering that most of the time you have to fight monsters who don’t use weapons, the player probably doesn’t need as much agility as when fighting against humans. So the main goal is to inflict as much devastating damage as possible in the shortest amount of time 🤔

    While not familiar with the weapon in game itself - what do you think of having it function more like a yo yo--- with the spinning gear on a string under tension - if Elastic, have have one string winding around the end of the weapon, and an opposite one pulling back to the base.
    You could still hold the frame, and force the assist hand to charge the wheel, and using the counter motion to of the opposite string under tension to reset or pull back the rotation. Think of it as a REALLY BAD FLY WHEEL.

    I think it would be cool if you could make it spin with some sort of pump action motion. That would likely make it more usable as a weapon. Then again, it would also break and be a lot harder to fix than a simple crank.

    It needs that little gear on the spring lever that's one a mountain bike to keep the chain taught when the blade is spinning and you're striking.

    It seemed that you were able to get it spinning by the way you hit Tony, without the chain. You could try to make a fork with a self-rotating Aluminium plate, even just a square with the edges sharpened. Then it should be scalable enough for you to find a good weight for it to still be usable.

      Or, basically a free-spinning circular saw blade, though it would tend to get stuck.

    A brushless motor from an ebike probably would have been a good option to power the wheel without relying on a chain. The battery would make a decent counterweight as well. It would still be obscenely heavy and a lot more expensive of course.

    if he had more mechanical know-how, there could be some sort of ratchet spinning gearbox with a tongue or lever extending to the grip to squeeze and catch the bike gear and "rev" with each depression. also, a c curved sheet of metal at that middle hand grip of the crutch to act as a blade guard.

    I think I'd just have gone for a pull cord to set the flywheel going by hand, could get fancy with one way freewheeling, self retracting pull cord and the like but it just adds complexity and unnecessary weight IMO. And then if confident enough use a motor on the ground to get more vroom - I expect it would be rather more effective and much harder to use if that wheel was really spinning with some gusto - all that fighting the gyro to get on target.
    That said good effort and fun testing of a daft idea. I can't think of a target those relatively short blades spinning like that would really be better on than just putting all that weight into a two handed axe. I guess maybe something huge like a whale you might find it easier to just let the circular saw element do its job once you hit the target than actually have to land more than one swing in much the same place to gain deeper penetration.

    An engineering flaw I see with this is that you have no supporting ability with the hand on the bicycle crank, a piston type pump crank ( like a tube that slides back and forth over the staff handle) would be more efficient and supportive while using it.

    hello sir. may i make a suggestion where it comes to your chain issue? you could use a spring loaded tensioner to help with derailments. love what you are doing. keep it up .

    Imagine Tyranth having funding..... Just imagine integrating a saw into Ghizas wheel as a driving mechanism for the chain, add some stuff to stabelize the whole thing, maybe cover up the chain so it isn't a weak point and voila: You don't have to worry about it being unweildy without having to power it by hand and instead being able to swing it properly with both hands

    Ghiza's Wheel makes sense if you think of it in context of what it was meant to be used for, it's not a weapon its meant as a scary and painful thing to get confessions from people through torture.

    So, I think what you really ought to do is combine the Arlong sword with this, and mount a series of Arlong sword teeth on a hefty chain that runs around two sprockets, which you should definitely power by a high-speed electric motor.
    Then test it via remote activation from a mile away behind a blast shield and at least 5 miles from any other people, because fuck wielding that monstrosity, or being anywhere nearby if the teeth fly off.
