God slaying greatsword is not sword
It's a flamethrower 😂
I was just about to say the same thing, it’s not meant for slicing, it’s meant for poking and igniting 😂
An elongated brazier fashioned into a sword shape. Another thing. This sword has a different set of animations than the other swords.
Other colossal swords dig into the ground when swung. The god slayer greatsword bounces off and generally swings faster.
@@xylenex8037 it actually doesn't bounce off. It's more like the flourish animations on the Knight's greatsword.
@@senounatsuru6453 ????
The basic attack animation of the god slayer greatsword comes into contact with the ground like other colossal swords. But instead of stopping on contact like the others, it makes a subtle bounce and continues a bit further.
The god slayer greatsword is so impractical that it wraps back around and becomes practical again. It's not even pretending to have a functional blade, it's literally just a club
I love these sword analyses videos. I'm currently writing a fantasy novel and they help a lot with describing swords and making them functional in my story. Same with your fantasy videos, those have given me so much inspiration for my book, I even found away to make healing potions work that other fantasies haven't thought of. Thank you for making these videos and I look forward to see more.
Edit: I someone in the comments told me the two books I didn't see in my research that does the healing potion idea, which is awesome!
Yo, same. I'm currently making a fantasy and a sci-fi, been at them for several years now. Best of luck!
@@nextcaesargaming5469 I've been working on this on and off for about a decade now, mostly focusing on world building and character arcs. I started writing it about a month ago and I finished the fourth chapter. I hope to see your book at my library!
I didn't know UA-cam added super chats to regular videos. That's actually kind of genius.
I'm curious what you did with healing pots. Alchemy and healing have really cool potential implications for settings, I love them!
@@thegoogliarch what does the body need to heal? Time. Instead of a healing potion it's an aging potion that heals you depending on how much you drank but ages you depending on how much you drank.
Some theorise that ancient meteoric ore blade is a giant Arrow tip
I did think it looked like an arrow, theory makes sense
Theorize? It's in the item description!
@@Shrikesthorne is it in the description that some theorize that? Fromsoft do be like that with their lore
The great sword would work like a splitting wedge. And I'd say it was closer to 60° than 90°
can confirm, lots of swords in elden ring have oval handles, not round!
I wanna know Shads main Elden Ring Build
He has already said what his build was a while ago
He said he uses the Troll Knight's Sword, which is arguably one of the worst weapons in the game. And thats a shame because its one of the best looking.
@@nathanpapp432 sometime after Elden's ring was released he made a video on the game and during the video he said that he had a comfort build using a shield and spear
Thank you friends, I believe in a few other (Elden Ring) videos he has shown his build in the moves reworking one. If not enough information is provided throughout other videos I may resort to creating a Shad build based off of his shadow of the conquerer novel, and or his gear that he has shown and believes to work best as an adventurer in other said videos.
I bunga, therefore I bunga - me every time I play a game for the first time. For some reason, my best way to play is as a berseker or barbarian kind of character to learn from how hard I can tank a hit to get better.
I just do it cuz its badass
Also, I like the strategy. It’s slower and I dodge around and go for that big BAM
You gotta do the more normally sized swords in this game next
And those katana ones too!! 😆
I'd love for them to not just do the swords, but also the spears and hammers as well. We know Shad loves sticks, but what about big chunky sticks?
the ancient meteoric greatsword is actually held the "correct" way as you guys pointed out, the deep curve on the bottom side (as displayed in the video) acts as a cutout for your shoulder in game. also, its unironically one of the best weapons on this list, nay, in the whole game!
Definitely one of my favorites, I ended up making a Str/Arc character just for it.
The royal greatsword is my favorite. F for Blaidd
My favorite too
F for friend 😢
F for Bao’s lover
F for the bestest boi
F for the goodest boy.
16:47 "Meteoric Ore" is a reference to the pure metallic iron found in meteorites, which is naturally much purer that most iron found on Earth where water, oxygen, and other things can contaminate it. Historically such meteorites were rare and are a go to in fiction including such famous shows as Avatar the Last Airbender where Sokka drags a meteorite to his swordsmanship teacher to make a sword of it.
or isileth from Peter Morwood's The Horse Lord : 'forged was I of iron heaven-born. Uelan made me. I am Isileth'
14:18 Grafted Blade Greatsword is "what if someone tried to wield the Iron Throne?"
Please do every weapon type from Elden Ring
You forgot the colossal swords from the DLC final boss. They're variations on the starscourge, being longer, less beat up, and thinner.
sshhhh, Tyranth hasnt finished the dlc yet and wants to avoid spoilers
Some lore: the ancient meteoric ore great Sword was an arrow tip used by giants fashioned into a Sword.
Also i would guess the spiral on the fire knight's as well as the godslayer are used to channel fire.
i kinda think the metal handle is required, you probably need a strong enough one to not break with the weight you'd need to put into the swings.
Fully agree. However, any kind of wrapping in the handle, would be a necessity to be wielded properly. Once your hands sweat, no matter how ovoid or blocky the handle is, your hands are gonna slip, so you need that wrapping.
@@maverickandmerciless9437 also doubt you would wield these without gauntlets, which would provide enough grip
@@belof449 good point, but gauntlets don't provide the same feedback as bare hands. You would trade control for protection. I would prefer bare hands, since these greatswords are quite unwieldy, even if able to wield them.
@@maverickandmerciless9437 i would agree if it was wielding these weapons with just super strength given, but if it's also meaning you are a tarnished in the ER universe, i want gloves and shit for rot and corpse pus getting on my hands as i sink this giant sword into things
A guy walks into a bar and sees a sign for the special of the day: hot dogs regular, bun length, foot-long, and colossal. "Give me two hot dogs," the guy tells the bartender. "How long do you want 'em?" the bartender asks. "Oh," the guy replies, "I thought I'd get to keep them."
You should do the Elden Ring Halberds or Spears next!
I was here before he fixed the "collosal" in the title!
Same.
hey shad have you seen the videos of the guy doing giant sword training and selling them as a workout routine?
Oh, you cant leave us hanging! 😉 Do you have a link please?
@trynda1701 Ashman Athletics is the name of the channel. He's swinging a 20lb sword like it's nothing after 90 days.
@@Frug4l Thank you. Just watched a couple of shorts, yes, he has indeed been practicing!
👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😃😃😃😃
@@trynda1701pretty sure UA-cam doesn’t allow links in the comments/replies like you requested.
Might be wrong, but figured worth mentioning.
@animefan3794 Hmm, thought I'd seen links before in comments on other videos. But no worry, @Frug4l gave us the channel name.
👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
Asking again just in case... :) Would you guys do a video like this about dungeons and dragons swords? Blackrazor, Sword of Kas, Sword of Zariel, Flame Tongue, Holy Avenger, Vorpal Sword, Luck Blade, Sword of Sharpness, Balduran's Giantslayer and The Silver Sword (these last 2 from Baldur's Gate 3), etc. They have really cool designs and I would love to see you guys "*overanalysing*" them. It would also reach a large audience potentially since dungeons and dragons these days has gained a lot of popularity with stranger things, the critical role show, baldurs gate 3, the recent dnd movie and new core rule books coming out in 2024 and 2025. And its right on theme of high fantasy along with skyrim and elden ring.
Great content as always. I love laying back watching your videos and its a lot of fun. I randomly stumbled on your channel a few months ago and im going back and watching a lot of your previous videos and they are all a good time. Been a fan of swords and medieval weapons and armors (who isnt?) for a long time. I would love to buy a genuine sword one day but I live in Canada and im very uncertain if they are allowed here or not... lol
20:03 that’s not a sword that’s just a tree branch 😂
In the game, the sword is engulfed in flame, and the flames go out much further than the tip of the sword, at least when using the weapon skill. Most of the damage it deals is the flame from it.
Yup, it's essentially a magic flame-thrower 😂
"Ancient meteoric ore greatsword" ..... "that's just steel" lmao
Rate Transformers weapons. They would probably have to be scaled down but still
The curse is broken! 48 minutes after launch, and I saw it in my feed! Hurrah! 😊
Godslayer for coring apples...thoughts.
I'm a simple man. I see Shad and I see giant swords, I click
There is a bit of a misconception going around.
The greatsword isn't based on the dragon slayer its based on the sword guts uses before the dragonslayer aka right before the branding
🤓 anime pedantry 🤓
@@Pepe-pq3omYou damn right son
The weapon was like the golden age sword back in Dark Souls 1. Every iteration since then, the sword looked way too chonky to resemble the golden age sword. And the dimensions of the "greatsword"s after DS1 match much better with the Dragonslayer.
@@zsDUGGZ the description for the ER version is even a nod to the dragonslayer
One of my favorite game's favorite weapon catagories, being analyzed by my favorite medieval analyst's. This is gonna be a fun evening
As usual, giant swords are dumb because the awkwardness and weight hinders its usefulness. I know Brother Shad stands by that declaration.
Interesting video, as always guys.
👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
Where/when would people say the trend for giant over the top blades started? For me, the first one I saw was in Final Fantasy 7 on the PS1, which was 1997. I know that you could say that Conan was probably shown in classic fantasy art with huge blades, but they look proportional to the giant dude he was, unlike the FFVII style.
Berserk predates FFVII, going back to 1989 at its beginnings. It was popular and iconic before anyone ever heard of Cloud Strife.
@@Kanaleah Thank you. Not being up on anime, that's one I hadn't heard of.
👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
Imagine having to clean the Grafted Blade Greatsword after using it. Imagine the stink of the thing if you don't manage to clean it perfectly...
You guys should check out the weapons from the legendary film 'Vampire Assassin'. I think you guys will...enjoy the designs.
I'd love for you guys to review the swords of Kingdom Come Deliverance. Just the comedy of that's a 9... that's 10. Another 10 another 9. Simple funny but potentially informative episode
4:04 is more accurate than you know. The bread and butter of the colossal sword class in pvp is the crouching r1, which is just a forward poke.
7:48 One of the reasons the handke may be short is cuz the trolls that wield them hold them in one hand with a perfect fit. For them it is just a wide sword.
GIVE US SWORDS! BIG ONES! But, no matter the size, swords are fun.
I agree, regardless of how unrealistic, swords are swords and swords are fun
What's not apparent from this video is the actual in game size of these swords. The Zweihander for example is longer than most of them.
Starscourge is a one handed colossal sword. If you two hand it you'll dual wield both blades like Radahn.
at 8:07, it's also important to note that the troll's golden sword is not made for the tarnished, but instead meant for trolls to wield as a longsword.
In the game, Greatsword is easily 10/10.
I'd love to see elden ring axes
Elden Ring, hell yeah!
You guys are SO nerdy about this stuff... it's awesome!! I appreciate the fun, knowledge, and passion you bring to all this stuff.
How about a separate coolness rating for these fantasy swords? That's what they're really designed for, and most people simply think "the coolest sword is the best!"
Now do a ranking where their powers are included.
Wielding a sword that doubles as a staff has got to count for something
Also the new great swords they have in the game are the
(light great swords) and when I first found one in the game I instantly thought of the video that Chad did no joke I believe myself as well that they literally used your idea when they came up with those light greatswords absolutely I think it's almost undeniable.
They're right about the godslayer. Its supposed to be blunt. Eji explains why.
What i understand about huge swords in souls series is that they are wielded by giants. And just tiny humans are using them.
What i am trying to say is i think you should also consider them as normal swords for giants. So you can say it is just a normal sword and grade them also.
The Starscourge greatsword is another blade made out of meteoric ore, as they say the blade "came from the stars". Also the handle is actually hexagonal which would probably hurt quite a lot, but that is okay because it is also made out of pure gold which would deform in your hand and mold to the shape of your fingers. At least until it broke after the first time you swing it over your head. But also also Radhan is technically a god so he can basically do what he wants.
And the meteoric ore blade is one of his arrows.
To be fair for the trolls sword in terms of the handle length it’s meant to be more arming sword length for trolls so the hilt to blade ratios not terrible for that
Malikeths black blade has destined death imbued in it. Its death itself, in universe it can kill anything.
I know this analysis is for human wielders but the troll swords were specifically made for giant trolls. Those swords look like short swords in their hands.
I sense a inverse relationship between how good the swords are in real life with how good they are in elden ring lol
Zweihander is my favorite weapon in the game, let alone just colossal swords. The design and the scale just feel right to me.
I would imagine the straight swords to mostly be "yup, that's a good sword". There's so many it could even be 2 videos.
We have a word for the GodSlayer Greatsword, it's a "Corkscrew". Clearly.
I think the fire knight great sword 🗡️ would be wieldable as a trusting weapon tho 😅
Sorta not really a spoiler but Maliketh's Black Blade, the blade is literally death
I personally thank shad for the light greatsword class
I’d love to see you rate the swords from the devil may cry series
I mean in lore getting so much as a nick from the black blade means death.
The ash on the troll knight's sword brings it down 3 points.
Missed a fair few collosal blades
Godslayers. A wonky drill bit
DO WHIPS!!
I like Turtles
🐢🐢
Turtle bros are sacred, only thing not trying to kill you dammit 🐢
Pope turtle 🐢
In game, the meta is Zweihander, Greatsword and Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword, those are the strongest colossal swords in the game (honorable mention to Fire Knight's Greatsword).
Irl, the best colossal sword is the Zweihander and there's nothing else.
Fire knight greatsword is way better than the zweihander, if you're going strictly for optimization you only really want to use the zwei in the early game when you don't have the stats for the guts sword yet.
@@X-Vidar Not anymore, the Zweihander have better counterhit utility (Fire Knight's GS deals less damage for being split damage, counter only counts physical damage), it got significantly better after the recent buffs to heavy attacks speed.
While the Fire Knight's Greatsword have better moveset, you constantly need to make use of Flame Skewer to make the weapon's damage really effective.
WHERE IS THE DARK MOON GREATSWORD!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not a colossal
@@Morrov Have you seen that sword? It is massive just like the rest.
@@JustTooDamnHonest hold it in one hand and the Greatsword in the other, it's big but very noticeably smaller
@@Morrov Then it shouldn't have the name "greatsword" in it then.
@@JustTooDamnHonest Greatsword is correct, it's in the "greatsword" category. The weapons in this video are in the "colossal sword" category.
And yes, the Greatsword is a colossal sword, not a greatsword, mostly because it's been around since Dark Sous 1 where the category was called "ultra greatswords". It's a bit confusing.
Presuming it's stronger than it looks, I'd be inclined to pick the Fire Knight's Greatsword. Within the game logic, the Zweihander would probably be usable like a sword half its size, so the FK's Greatsword should feel like a Rapier and probably be treatable as such.
In terms of design: the "berserk" sword, easily.
Despite it's flaws it is unadorned which always makes it look more functional than let's say the royal one.
Speaking of Golden Swords, I would love to see you guys cover in the future both golden swords & gold swords. Which coincidentally the very 1st sword o loved as a kid which is still one of my top 10 personal favorite fictional swords is Peter Pam’s Golden Sword from Hook (1991). I think it would be very cool to see Shad & Tyranth test out the effectiveness of some gold based swords.
You should rate all the variations of the Moonlight Greatsword across all FromSoft's games :p
A little detail, several of the colossal swords, are in reality, one handed swords, but they are used by characters much larger than the player, this is why they have some of those shapes and proportions
You guys should so an Elden Rings Swords vs Skyrim Swords video, rate them relative to each other
15:21 it looks like it's a whole bunch of small broken pieces of blades that have been forged to a center blade if it was just the center blade with a smaller crossguard then it'd be a 9 out of 10 to me Vanessa stands I give it a 3
Tyranth: "I love it" Shad: "I hate it, 1/10" Tyranth: "...as a sword...>.>"
This comes just in time Shad, as i just recently got back into Elden Ring for a brand new playthrough with the Guts Greatsword!
As cool the Godslayer's is...yeah...that is a fancy club...not a sword... So, I fully agree on this one.
And, though I love the Ruin's Greatsword...I also agree on this one...it's not a sword...lol
I'm surprised the Grafted Scored so well...it's another greatsword I love.
I just got my Platinum trophy for all achievements two days ago in this game.
Love it.
Hey Shad, any chance you rate Caesar King's sword and shield from ZZZ? That would be crazy haha
"Round handle bad" "rectangular handle bad"
Is the dark moon great sword? Not considered a colossal weapon? Or the sacred relic great sword?
I think you should have a series where you both redesign every sword to your own design
HOLY HOLY SHIT!!!
Watchdog's Greatsword is made out of stone
Take a look at industrial foam cutting blades. I used to be a night guard at a factory that made mattresses and other foam products.
I don't like how the zwihander in in clossle but flamburg is in greatsword like wtf
4:35 "more of a giant sword" sounds like "more a vagina sword" and i can't unhear this
Okay let's rank the fantasy weapons based on their in-universe usefulness... *completely ignore in-universe properties of weapons*
14:10. imagine trying to sharpen that thing...
Funny enough the latest update to the game lets you swing these swords much faster
The Godslayer's sword looks good for breaking blades and gutting giants
Relevant and Supportive Comment to feed the Algorangim
14:30 Why the heck is there a blade sticking out of the crossguard on the side of the handle? That thing is a danger to its user
Yeah, the Greatswords category is better than Collosal sword category imo.
I don’t really know what Maliketh’s blade is made of but the best guess is that it’s made of a material called Blackened Corpse Wax which the gargoyles that serve him, the Black Blade Kindred, and the weapons they wield, are heavily patched up with.
Considering that this is Elden Ring I suspect the name ‘Corpse Wax’ isn’t just for show but it seems to have been a useful alternative since the Black Blade Kindred are much stronger than the usual gargoyles one can find in Leyndell.
I look forward to more Elden Ring weapons.
Personally I’m very fond of the Greatsword and Greatspear range.
Mohgwyn Sacred Spear is my favourite to use, it looks amazing but I’m very well aware it’s impractical as hell.
Ruins greatsword is my favorite to use, it is quite literally a piece of a stone ruin from a meteor strike.
I chalk up the Godslayer Greatsword as a glorified flamethrower / lightsaber.
The Godslayer isn't a sword it's clearly a straw
