Was waiting for this review! Have to say I'm underwhelmed, I plan on replacing my 11 year old Dio with an electric scooter and looks like I'm going with the Ather 450 series. This is a half baked product and the issues you guys faced like the overheating, throttle calibration and the motor randomly shutting off are extremely severe and can be dangerous in traffic. Besides I don't feel comfortable with this let's say "Tesla approach" to sales and services, a proper workshop and dealership network would have been nice.
This is half baked before the release. Ather doesnt come close because they have yearly costs and the entire specs doesnt even add up to half of OLA. I wouldnt bother with these issues because they are minor and engineering issues rather than technological. These can be solved easily.
@@pavanbk15589 Yes Ola is a better scooter on paper But Ather has delivered what they have promised although be it at a slightly higher price After seeing Ola's marketing and their big claims ppl had lot of expectations, which they failed to deliver They should have spent that marketing money on software development It's not that they didn't had time they had more than 3 months time since launch but still failed miserably to deliver Cooling in an EV and throttle response isn't a small technical issue to neglect while buying Hope ola will resolve all these issues soon
I suggest you to wait a bit more before moving on.. Coz ather is also not a great product.. EV is still in nascent stages so if you can, wait out the next 1year to see good ev two Wheelers which are on par with their petrol siblings..
@@pavanbk15589 yearly cost. Subscription is optional 2 years owning ather 450. Never sepnt a penny except for 10km for 800 re service i did recently. To enjoy connectivity features you would need the subscription. First one year i was excited to have a touch screen with maps integrated in it. Now im bored of it I dont even need those features All i need is scooter that can take from point a to b without any issue. Ather has reliability stability with almost no issues except for very minor glitches in 450x. But first series of 450 which had linux is almost bug free. Hope mfg will deploy linux and not resource hungry android to enjoy bug free scooter. Even OLA seems to have used Android and they call it as Move OS From what i heard is OLA betteries take up the shape of the body chasis. Cooling the batteries is more chalenging part when compared to Ather which is placed flat on the floor board which has effective cooling. Ather is also said to be working on no nonsense version for a budget of 1 lakh and having 120km range. If ather and ola gives same spec for 1 lakh. Or even if ather prices 10k more than ola. I would always prefer ather. They are more established than OLA. they did it from scratch rather Ola just collaborated with Etergo. But as now there is no product to compete Ola. simple EV looks promising. But i am not sure wehther they will deliver the prmised specs. Ather if they upgrade their battery and upgrade the motor . thats all they neeed to take up OLA. as far as the updates from CEO..they already have one basic non smart version and high powered version lile s1 pro on works. Most probably the proce would be 1.6 to 1.7 lakhs almost 30k more than OLA. but it will have premium experience than Ola with no throttling of speeds.
Mahindra is a company in automotive business for several decades and with lots of cash and a profit earning revenue model. Ola is a startup surviving only on venture capitalist money with no income for the RnD of building a cutting edge EV that needs to compete with aggressive Chinese orgs. The app cab business has only turned profitable last month only after so many years in business. You have to have gimmicks and a glamorous PR to keep investors interested, so that they keep on pumping money into your product's development. Even then Ola knows the company will only run in losses for perhaps the first 10 years if they survive that long and keep luring investors to pump in more money to cover the losses. The investors don't care about profit as long as the share prices of Ola keep climbing and their asset value increases. Thats a very different revenue model than Mahindra. Not a fair comparison, and the XUV700 too has a bunch of glitches according to sources that teamBHP published.
Thank you for this honest review. Already watched a couple of some other videos. They trying not to cover the real issues. They are touching on a few points but not talking in detail.
I think @ OLA Design team did their best but didn't understand certain vital elements required for India. We use our Moped/ Scooters like mini tempo carrying as much luggage as feasible but that wasn't taken into consideration. A flat Footboard could have been so much better. But what was important was how it performs Even that wasn't done well. I think Bhavish Aggarwal was the only person to test these Vehicles who clearly didn't do his job well.
I am one of the s1 pro owner in mumbai and experienced a breakdown even before it reached 100 kms. Manual was shared to me by email after it got breakdown. Ola service Center from Kalina Mumbai did not answered my call nor call back. I used to call on Bangalore based customer service almost 5-6 times a day and could not get any answer since customer care tele executives do not have any visibility. Finally today I got to know that battery is dead and it will be replaced in next few weeks. Leaving me with no vehicle and no answer and lots of problem with price tag of more than 1 lakh. Thank u Ola
Huge expectations from Ola but I guess its just another "Beauty over functionality" gimmick. Software OTA updates on smartphones is understandable but covering all its flaws with future promised updates is genuinely laughable. What if a buggy software is pushed to the masses and that renders the bike unusable, bricks it so to say or impacts the battery like in smartphones? If they want to compete with like of Honda, TVS and market leaders they need to bring much more of a bike than a smartphone then turned bike. This looks severely flawed..
@@DocRaman Sorry but I cannot believe Ola has a range of 180kms lol. I hope I'm proven wrong when the real world figures come out but until then I am really sceptical about this scooter.
@@DocRaman Ather's Business model was always about making Electric 2 wheelers for city rides. They never wanted to make long range 2 wheelers, but now that the competition is beginning to rise, atleast that's what everyone thinks, Ather is forced to make a long range affordable electric 2 wheeler. They did a fuckin phenomenal job with their first products. I mean, look at this shitty Ola, so much hype and all it does is creates problems all by itself. I'm rooting for Ather, simply for their Quality and performance.
@@kartikvadhwani2051 I was looking at both but now I am more or less decided on the Ather. I am especially interested in the 450 plus which is around 1.25 lakh after subsidiary in Bengaluru. Petrol scooters with the current fuel prices is certainly a stupid purchase if you ask me.
Finally, Glad to see the new face on Autocar review rather explaining things by an older non technical people. Detailed and neatly explained review by Zaran with proper explaination of technical aspects. Keep it up buddy, See you soon.
Rajiv Bajaj made some valid points about the startups in the electric space after all. No in-house R&D among many other issues. Much hype, less substance after all!
As is those giants are any better. Bought an electric scooter from Hero in late 2000's, couple of years later i wanted to see what's new on the market. They were literally selling the same scooter with new cosmetics.
Throttle issue can be rectified using software update. Not sure if the same can be said about thermal issues. What can be done is that temperature thresholds to start cutting back power can be moved or the cut back can be more gradual over a wider range of temps instead of dropping suddenly. Also the thermal issues can be in one of more of the following components - battery, motor controller or motor. These 3 are connected in a sequence and thermal cutback in one will affect all 3
There are things which they've to fix as they stated in the video.Though they've bought it from an European company they're an Indian company and are catering to the Indians so they should've made some changes 1.Floorboard spine is a big problem when taking some hard objects like water cans 2.They should've made the seat big 'coz mainly mothers and elder females sit sideways and there's not enough space to sit. 3.The holder behind the pillion is also not sturdy and not big enough especially for people who sit sideways. 4.The side footpad for pillion sitting sideways. There's also no way to install it third party. 5.The body guards which are provided for other conventional scooters should be provided as an option 'coz as I can see it is prone to scratches and they don't hide anywhere. 6.There should be something like a key in case there is some problem in the battery or the display and the display or the scooter dies. There should be an option to at least move it to some service as if it stops and locks itself it'll be a long long day. I think there are the main and minimal changes for the Ola S1 or S1 Pro to be a very very successful scooter especially in the rural, semi rural and semi urban areas. I think the first 4 points are needed for even Urban owners .If these are added and Ola makes the scooter more Indian and less eurpoean there's nothing in the market that's gonna stop it from being the most valuable auto two wheeler company in future.
this is what happens in india , qc is being done on youtube it should have been done in the factory itself fixed all issues and then released the product .
Thermal issue is a big big concern, if suddenly stops there could be huge mishap, can't really understand without proper testing how did they come up such aggressive delivery dates etc.. looks like another Freedom 500,in this case only a product will be delivery but nothing up to the mark, to be safe i believe ather or tvs are much better.
The performance looks great, but I'm concerned about these "bugs." These bugs have no place on the road. The ergonomics seem very poor. I need place to stretch my legs atleast a little bit and if I have to bend my feet to ride, that is very silly. And there seems to be no place on the footboard to keep something simple like my office bag, for example. No place for pillion because of a non-conformist ideology? Well, that is idiotic on Ola's part. And who cares about speakers on a scooter - useless cost-increasing feature - not to mention if water happens to seep in or carbon gets in due to the pollution, the entire speaker may go kaput in less than 5 months. All I want is a comfortable EV two-wheeler which has good speed, decent range, comfortable ride, good ergonomics and space for a pillion to sit! If only an Activa was electric! Dear Ola, I don't need these other gimmicks.
The scooter looks tiny! Thanks a ton for the most honest review. That's why I love autocarindia. Also, dude those hair look too good, but please wind them up properly when having fun on a go kart.
Superb review...... Many points are still unknown to many of the reviewers.... Especially heating issue.... Motor not responding etc.... Thank you..... Will wait and see before making a choice......
Some of the flaws are apparent. Taking into consideration that this is their debut vehicle on the market. However, the competitiveness it raises for the industry giants who have already established themselves is clear. I am confident that in the following years, this firm will perform much better. 👏👏❤

I guess buying a Ather will make more sense, Ola with thermal issue and performance drop it doesn't make sense to buy a scooter with such issues. And I'm sure they won't be able to fix these issues in coming year.
Ather is jst gud in it's look.. in performance it's nt even close to ola. Ola has gt superior performance. Also ather is over - priced. U can't freely climb hills via ather. Ola can resolve this problems bt if ather wants to resolve den dey will hve to put bigger battery nd gud motor for which the price of bike should go 1.50lac bt it is already more den it so dey will bt be able to stand in the market
Good job zaran , nice in-depth review. Relying on the touch screen or app to start your scoot is a bit unnerving for me. Some physical button would have been nice. Also thermal issue as you mentioned would need to be sorted..
Ather 450x is a refined, solid product, which convinces me that it is aiming to be the Apple of electric scooters. This one is trying to be a Xiaomi and not even getting there yet.
Nice review, but a couple of important points. The promise of doorstep service is a largely unfulfilled one as many disgruntled owners will tell you. The other important aspect missing here is the performance issues on a climb which irks many users, especially when riding with a pillion. To sum up, the design has a lot of promise, but there is a long way to go.
I personally test rode an ola S1 pro and found it to be underwhelming especially after the hype The seat was too short that me and my dad could not sit together without the other person hanging off The side stand was quite flimsy Plastic and switch gear quality felt mediocre which is something you don't expect at 1l+ especially when we have scooters like the chetak Headlight wasn't good even the TVs ntorq I own has a better headlamp Software was slow and buggy (that is fixable) There was a lot of jerkiness in hyper mode between 25 to 65kmph with full throttle (unrealistic 90% of the time but still) The grab rails are useless The ladies foot rest is an accessory which is a joke (surely at 1.35lakhs they can accommodate a 200 buck piece of metal) No centre stand or brake lock mechanism Speakers are extremely questionable especially with rain and usb port is also exposed would have been much better inside the under seat storage Speaking of the under seat storage no light I mean is it that hard to put a small led inside I am also not very sold on pairing with phone and keyless entry thing Body panels are not premium feeling and the charging cap especially is flimsy I also did notice the throttle not cutting off issue Finally the floor board having a hump means my feet simply don't fit fully But there are certainly positives Speed and acceleration are class leading (even though I feel speed should be capped at 90 like ather as it's a safety hazard) Brakes , tyres suspension and handling are superb The horizontal suspension far surpassed my expectations Battery capacity is is class leading Look is again subjective not a great fan myself That's how I would sum the ola S1 pro Personally I am disappointed with their cost cuttings in accesories, lack of transparency and clarity regarding the warranty of the battery pricing etc
Thanks for such a valuable review. We are not sitting over here to waste our hard earned money on defective products. Let OLA work on all the shortcomings and relaunch the product next year.
This is what I call an unbiased preview of this scooter. Really appreciate the efforts and the negotiations @autocarindia would have had to do with @olaelectric. Hats off #autocarindia.
Thank you for sharing your genuine feedback. It looks like a toy doesn't suits for Indian mindset. There was a hype by Ola previously but now it's a huge disappointment. They said manufacturing got automated then why they cannot reduce price? There are many good scooters available at 1,30k price.
With this review we can conclude, people who need scooter as early as possible can buy tried and tested Ather and others who is ok to have scooter later a year can wait till Ola ironout these issue.

@@pavanbk15589 Yes
Ola is a better scooter on paper
But Ather has delivered what they have promised although be it at a slightly higher price
After seeing Ola's marketing and their big claims ppl had lot of expectations, which they failed to deliver
They should have spent that marketing money on software development
It's not that they didn't had time they had more than 3 months time since launch but still failed miserably to deliver
Cooling in an EV and throttle response isn't a small technical issue to neglect while buying
Hope ola will resolve all these issues soon
I suggest you to wait a bit more before moving on.. Coz ather is also not a great product.. EV is still in nascent stages so if you can, wait out the next 1year to see good ev two Wheelers which are on par with their petrol siblings..
@@pavanbk15589 yearly cost.
Subscription is optional
2 years owning ather 450. Never sepnt a penny except for 10km for 800 re service i did recently.
To enjoy connectivity features you would need the subscription. First one year i was excited to have a touch screen with maps integrated in it. Now im bored of it
I dont even need those features
All i need is scooter that can take from point a to b without any issue. Ather has reliability stability with almost no issues except for very minor glitches in 450x. But first series of 450 which had linux is almost bug free.
Hope mfg will deploy linux and not resource hungry android to enjoy bug free scooter.
Even OLA seems to have used Android and they call it as Move OS
From what i heard is OLA betteries take up the shape of the body chasis.
It's still far away from a bug free delivery. Good thing I canceled mine, hope to see a much better version (maybe 2.0) in a year.
Nice touch with the number 46, a good tribute to the just retired legend, Valentino Rossi.

I had lots of hope bcoz of the hype..... But your video was as usual an eye 👁🗨 opener. Thank u guys once again for being honest ✌️✌️✌️✌️
Ola is going to regret for giving these bikes even for short review..as most cons seem deal breakers. Good for the customers though.
What a genuine review by Autocar. Half of the product will arrive in the next update 2022 🤣🤣
Mahindra creates hype for XUV 700 and delivers it. Same thing can be learnt by ola.
This is first ever video i watched on ur channel and must say that u know ur work and gave the true unbiased review with covering every single details
Thank you for this honest review. Already watched a couple of some other videos. They trying not to cover the real issues. They are touching on a few points but not talking in detail.
Quick and crisp. That's how Autocar differentiates itself from the sea of so called reviewers.
I think @ OLA
Design team did their best but didn't understand certain vital elements required for India.
We use our Moped/ Scooters like mini tempo carrying as much luggage as feasible but that wasn't taken into consideration.
A flat Footboard could have been so much better.
But what was important was how it performs
Even that wasn't done well.
I think Bhavish Aggarwal was the only person to test these Vehicles who clearly didn't do his job well.
Something Honda understood well when they launched the Kinetic Honda.
Very true. Scooter is a practical mode of transport not some poor functioning scooter with lot of tech heavy gizmos.
Exactly, but I guess Ola is not targeting ppl who use their scooters like mini tempos.
The ola scooter has more cons than pros... Those who booked on seeing the hype will definitely goona regret for there purchase.
Afterall it's made by etergo from Europe for west.
OLA bought the company with some minor twiks.
@@rajatdani619 absolutely correct bro.
This was a really good review. Covered all the points, especially the ones which are important. Hope Ola team, fixes those issues.
The entire scooter is in beta mode. It will one of the best when issues are fixed. And issues are actually fixable
lets just see if they will fix the problems when they deliver the scooter or not?
I like ur review method, well explained and also found to be very Honest and unbiased. All the very best to u
Journalism at its best. Best review on Ola scooter till now.
Wow! "Hype can only get you so far" Now that's an honest review :)
Ather was always going to be tough to beat and after this review seems like it still is the best-in-class as of yet
With that joke of 80km range and limted availablity Ather can't match ola nationwide availability and double range .
Ather is the beast when compared to ola
Ather is another hype thing
I had a test ride. Was disappointed with the throttle response. Glad i have ather 450
Is ather 450 worth??...
I'm planning to buy and confused between Simple Ola s1 and ather 450
Not biased at all!
@@kartikvadhwani2051 I was looking at both but now I am more or less decided on the Ather. I am especially interested in the 450 plus which is around 1.25 lakh after subsidiary in Bengaluru. This Ola scooter is definitely out of my list with these issues, cannot imagine getting it resolved without a proper dealership and workshop network. Petrol scooters with the current fuel prices is certainly a stupid purchase if you ask me.

Welcome back, Zaran Bhai!
Very crucial review, makes me think twice before booking. Maybe we should wait another year.
Finally, Glad to see the new face on Autocar review rather explaining things by an older non technical people.
Detailed and neatly explained review by Zaran with proper explaination of technical aspects.
Keep it up buddy, See you soon.
Waiting for your complete review specially for the heating issue
Rajiv Bajaj made some valid points about the startups in the electric space after all. No in-house R&D among many other issues. Much hype, less substance after all!
As is those giants are any better. Bought an electric scooter from Hero in late 2000's, couple of years later i wanted to see what's new on the market. They were literally selling the same scooter with new cosmetics.
Waiting for this for few months, finally video is heree!!!!!!!!!!
This video will save money of many ….
These 3 are connected in a sequence and thermal cutback in one will affect all 3
sare technician youtube, facebook par hi milte hai.
Thank you for an unbiased/unpaid review. There are very few like you left in the market.
There are things which they've to fix as they stated in the video.Though they've bought it from an European company they're an Indian company and are catering to the Indians so they should've made some changes
1.Floorboard spine is a big problem when taking some hard objects like water cans
2.They should've made the seat big 'coz mainly mothers and elder females sit sideways and there's not enough space to sit.
Why are you repeating the same what was said in the vdo lol
A honest review hats off 👌👌👌👌
Best no nonsense non biased review
Happy to hear, genuine unbaised initial review
Damn... Finally!!! Was eagerly waiting for this.
The best and holistic review of the scooter .
this is what happens in india , qc is being done on youtube it should have been done in the factory itself fixed all issues and then released the product .
Freedom 251*
What about simple one?
barish me pani bharega uska kya karna hai ?
If only Activa was electric! - There, that’s it!!
Honest review , thanks for putting out the points so bluntly . 90k booked without a ride . Hope ppl who booked don’t suffer to the gimmicks and gizmos
As per your review also wait for full sucess than buy , thank you for review
Design is stunning, performance also. But the shortcomings you mentioned are very critical.
The scooter looks tiny! Thanks a ton for the most honest review. That's why I love autocarindia. Also, dude those hair look too good, but please wind them up properly when having fun on a go kart.
I really love honest review ,
Explaining all negative points & what he don't like personally
Any eye opener for Ola and it's customer. Thanks Autocar. Need to rethink before buying.
Love the genuine review.Calling spade a spade!!!
How will they solve the thermal issue with an OTA update !? 🤔
Ola electric scooter New name is - Buggy Scooter 😂, Full of bugs, Thanks for the review I'm not going to buy this anymore, Rajiv Bajaj is right they gonna eat OATS in the breakfast very soon 🙏🏻
ola should be given sometime this is there first vehicle if those are software issues then it will be fixed
Bro please don't support bajaj
Try to cheer for Ola because they actually tried to deliver something
Whereas I saw the potential of bajaj on 28th October 🙄😒
not Ather, as i think they are more or less sorted *now* .
This cleared up lot of doubts... thanks @autocar 😀😀
The best review i have seen recently
Detailed and thorough review. Awesomely done!
Well I'm glad review was honest not an buttering one ,all those issues typical electric scooter issues #hero
Good job zaran , nice in-depth review. Relying on the touch screen or app to start your scoot is a bit unnerving for me. Some physical button would have been nice. Also thermal issue as you mentioned would need to be sorted..
Best think about your video is that you give the true review not like other who only promotes the product or do marketing
Wow waiting for this long time!
Ather 450x is a refined, solid product, which convinces me that it is aiming to be the Apple of electric scooters. This one is trying to be a Xiaomi and not even getting there yet.
Thanks for the one if the most honest review of ola electric scooter 👏👏
Nice review, but a couple of important points. The promise of doorstep service is a largely unfulfilled one as many disgruntled owners will tell you. The other important aspect missing here is the performance issues on a climb which irks many users, especially when riding with a pillion. To sum up, the design has a lot of promise, but there is a long way to go.
The most important thing is electric scooter, i think, is Range and time taken for charge, other things can be put on hold for some time.
Ather electric looks quite practical.. considering the fact they are installing charging points all round the state here in Goa
I personally test rode an ola S1 pro and found it to be underwhelming especially after the hype
The seat was too short that me and my dad could not sit together without the other person hanging off
The side stand was quite flimsy
Plastic and switch gear quality felt mediocre which is something you don't expect at 1l+ especially when we have scooters like the chetak
Headlight wasn't good even the TVs ntorq I own has a better headlamp
Software was slow and buggy (that is fixable)
There was a lot of jerkiness in hyper mode between 25 to 65kmph with full throttle (unrealistic 90% of the time but still)
The grab rails are useless
The ladies foot rest is an accessory which is a joke (surely at 1.35lakhs they can accommodate a 200 buck piece of metal)
No centre stand or brake lock mechanism
Speakers are extremely questionable especially with rain and usb port is also exposed would have been much better inside the under seat storage
Speaking of the under seat storage no light I mean is it that hard to put a small led inside
I am also not very sold on pairing with phone and keyless entry thing
Body panels are not premium feeling and the charging cap especially is flimsy
I also did notice the throttle not cutting off issue
Finally the floor board having a hump means my feet simply don't fit fully
But there are certainly positives
Speed and acceleration are class leading (even though I feel speed should be capped at 90 like ather as it's a safety hazard)
Brakes , tyres suspension and handling are superb
The horizontal suspension far surpassed my expectations
Battery capacity is is class leading
Look is again subjective not a great fan myself
That's how I would sum the ola S1 pro
Personally I am disappointed with their cost cuttings in accesories, lack of transparency and clarity regarding the warranty of the battery pricing etc
Thanks for this..
@@t.mofficial...817 very much appreciated
Have to wait at least 2 years for them to fix this
So have you tested the ather 450x? If yes can you tell me how it fares against this? It's expensive but I've heard it's very good.
Hi seb fan
I subscribed for your honest review. Keep it up.
A guy from RevNitro channel, 2 months back mentioned about this thermal issue that might pop up in Ola scooters. As he said, it happened 😀
Awesome review👌👍!!
Thank you for sharing your genuine feedback. It looks like a toy doesn't suits for Indian mindset. There was a hype by Ola previously but now it's a huge disappointment. They said manufacturing got automated then why they cannot reduce price? There are many good scooters available at 1,30k price.
Beautiful Capsule Design & Brilliant Single side Shock...👌👌
Awesome and Genuine review.. Appreciate it
is there any tyre pressure monitoring system?
I was waiting for Zaran to get a shock & his hair be like "shock laga laga shock laga" from the Havells ad.
He’s the one who gets shock in sting energy drink ad 😂😂
Very informative review thank you
With this review we can conclude, people who need scooter as early as possible can buy tried and tested Ather and others who is ok to have scooter later a year can wait till Ola ironout these issue.
