I was at the Sony Playstation Store at the Metreon in San Francisco that day / night. It was quite the party and not as boring as - say - an Apple product line. First, it was catered. Sony got several businesses to provide coffee and sandwiches to those in line (quite decent too!). Second - and this was the really fun part - there were passes provided so people could leave the line and return. Mostly for bathroom breaks (since the Metreon was a mall - no prob). But the real fun was the fact that most of the line faced a huge bar / pub / restaurant so people would use the passes and grab a beer or cocktail and return to the line.
