I miss midnight launches pre-social media. You had no idea who played the game from your area, it was such a social event and it was super fun to actually wait.
Back when you could actually be one of the first people to get something, and there wasn't a curated cadre of corporate sponsored "influencers" who got everything first and saturated social media with it before you even got a chance to try it out. There was an organic excitement there that's been killed by the modern marketing machine. Social media should have been a way to get people's takes on things, boots on the ground, grass roots style, but it has just turned into algorithmic manipulation so that guys in suits can try to control what you see and hear. I hate what we've let the internet become.
@@bombkangaroo Exactly that. The Internet ways way better like 15 years ago. Nowadays even if I preorder the game it launches at midnight and I'm just looking at the screen while the clock is ticking down. There are already guides made by the reviewers and other influencers who got the keys early and dissected the entire game. UA-cam overflows with spoilers immediately. Buying a video game doesn't feel special or personal anymore.
@@reisshep Not to mention the people that manage to get the game early and leak a copy online. People were playing Mario Wonder days before it even released.
The ps1 and ps2 era were magical. It's like peeking into the future with all the advancements in technology. Companies are butting against each other. Trying to prove they have either the best games or specs. Competition makes great products. Nowadays game companies became more scummy on what they think they can get away with. Some even became entitled and others are fake activists.
PS2 era was in my opinion the best. There was online, there was backwards compatibility, games didn't try to make you fork over as much money as possible, they didn't need day 1 patches, they didn't prolong the game by making it open world or whatever. Just connect the console, pop the disc in and it just works. It was super simple but it was the best.
I miss these older graphics. They don’t necessarily look worse than what we have now in my opinion, but can be seen as another form of aesthetic. They give me a very different feeling from modern games, in a good way.
Both of my parents were Gamestop managers at different stores in the early 2000’s, so much of my childhood was spent visiting one of them at work and hanging out. Seeing videos like these brings such a rush of nostalgia
This is gaming's Golden Age. It never got better than this. I genuinely miss these days, where buying a console like this didn't feel like you were getting ripped off from the get go and games came complete at launch.
@@kvarnerinfoTV Well, this was 2000, which technically was still the 90s, very end of it. A decade is 10 years and when we count to ten we start with 1, or in this case, 1991. I kinda doubt the original commentor would be contradicting young when saying this was in the golden age unless something suddenly changed in gaming the year this video was recorded.

Finally found one Target store about 50 miles away had one console left. My mom drove me, I remember walking in and seeing that blue box, I was so hyped. Played Tekken Tag until like 4 am that night. Good times.

I'm so thankful that videos like this exist on this platform. Everyone look so carefree and almost innocent: I love the guy who started explaining Silent Scope and the fact that he already tried the demo. It's simple but he looked happy to just talk about it.
Definitely! I remember being 11 when me, my uncle and my dad first played a demo PS2 in a store. After years of playing Gran Turismo and Crash Bandicoot on PS1, the leap in graphics was unreal to us. PS2 to PS3 was really good too, but didn't hit quite the same.
Just cause it's YOUR childhood and adolescent times..nastalgia. don't be so tunnel visioned...old people will say the 60s and 70s were the best decades...follow? I grew up in the 90s and 00s. Take a wild guess what two decades are my favorite?
@@anon2414 I agree with your statement, however it's also got to do with the peak of the wealth of Western civilisation. 9/11 changed global travel and engendered a sense of constant fear. The crisis in 2008 made clear that we were living in an unsustainable bubble, since then the inhabitants lots of Western countries have experienced a decline in their purchasing power. Combine that with the growing dominance of smartphone technology and the maturing of social media (and with that the collapse of the 'old internet'-a new model was found in which the users were the product) around the same time and it makes sense people prefer the previous era.
I was born in 2001, but absolutely agree those times were better. The games, the anime, music I like the most in life comes from the 90s until early 2000s.
The biggest thing I miss from the older consoles like the ps2 (which was my first console) was you got to read the book inside the box on the way home then play the game right away not wait a few hours to install it!
Bro it took hours to get back home from the store to play the game, it still was waiting but not in front of the tv, with a fast download speed it takes 45 min to download, in the future I’m pretty sure it will take 4 to 10 min
It made more sense to spend a few more bucks on a PS2 instead of a DVD player back then. Such a great console, just seeing that beautiful blue box it came in brings back great memories from that time.
PS2 was my first DVD player in February 2002. Next one was my iMac, then my Dell laptop, then a DVD drive. I dont believe Ive ever bought a standalone DVD player.
@@moussatahirou1531Not sure, but sounds plausible, given the PS3 was significantly cheaper than a dedicated Blu-ray player at the time of launch. This was made possible by them selling the consoles at a loss.

No social media, No amazon, No instant this or instant that. Tech has evolved so much and made the world so much more efficient, but sooo much more toxic on a social / societal level.

Nowadays it's 90% scalpers standing in lines at midnight releases.

Idk man, the SNES/Genesis generation was pretty damn magical, too.
I miss these older graphics. They don’t necessarily look worse than what we have now in my opinion, but can be seen as another form of aesthetic. They give me a very different feeling from modern games, in a good way.

It’s so cool seeing how everyone’s reading a newspaper instead of being on their phone scrolling through social media
Do you read newspapers or a book when waiting in a line??
@@omargonzales3some people did, some people didn't.
in 2000 they didnt had the technology that we have today
Reading a newspaper and scrolling through social media is essentially the same thing.
@@jeremylong6229 no it's not, haha
I was 3 years old at that time but joined quickly at 4 - 5yo 😄 I'm so grateful to have experienced the world before social media became a real thing.
Late late 90's and Early 2000's was the best times... Great games, movies, music, shows. Just a good time to be a kid
More and more Morpheus was right about the peak of our civilization

Before cellphones took over too. It was nice.
I'm just tired of all this PC non-sense and like all these months of recognition (I. E. a more specific month), like everyone needs to be included in EVERYTHING. I play DnD and they even did away with Racial traits, do racial traits not exist in real life? I'm pretty sure I can't run as fast as a black man or be completely ripped like a black man, like that's just one example. I'm sick of cell phones and how much they dictate everyone's lives... I hate social media... I could go on and on.
@@SenseiSmokey_89ok to be fair, yes taking racial traits out of DnD is dumb. A orc should be way stronger than a human or elf. But gnomes should have higher sneak abilities.
But to say you can’t run as fast as a black person is just plain stupid of a statement.
What I love the most during this time period is people reading books, magazines and newspaper as a way to pass time.
Especially _before_ the time of the Internet.
@@Religious_man2000 is before internet? Are you crazy?
I said "especially before."
Many still do xD Not newspapers though lol
You guys do realise nothing prevents you from doing this today right?
I still have my PS2. So glad we didn't have to install patches / updates etc. Just play the game and have fun!
i mean kind of but not really, with all those load times add up its the same as installing a patches... i remember on playstion sometimes the load time from one area to the next took like a whole minute
@@seawaterjohnmiller7118 playstation is actually child abuse. u were supposed to get a n64
and no dlc, what we buy is full game.

bro the dude with the cat casually on his shoulder lmao i cant stop laughing
It’s funny how they were all waiting reading magazines but now a days people would all have their cell phones out texting and taking photos
Seems like such an ancient time. Kind of surreal to think I lived during this time. I was 5 when the PS2 came out. That console entertained me until I was 12. Rachet & Clank, Mortal Kombat Deception, Mortal Kombat Armageddon, Revenge Of The Sith, King Kong the movie game, Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban, Jak and Daxter, Spider Man 2 many more games from my childhood. Man I want to cry.
It's kind of funny that even 10 people can feel the exact same about the same console and still have played completely different games each.
That was how rich the variety of great fun games was.
Little did those people know, it would eventually be one of the best selling video game consoles of the 2000s
it's the best selling console of all gaming history
How on earth would they not have made this assumption lol
@@jamesinhenleyright ? I’m pretty sure a lot of people could’ve guessed this stupid ass assumption
Trust me, everyone knew how special the PS2 was about to be. It was such a leap from the PS1.
They knew it, this is why they are there
To this day May 2024, the Ps2 still holds the best library of videogames of all time.
Legendary times, so happy I got to enjoy these days, I recall when I went to game launches at midnight, back when GameStop was respected, stayed up all night with the bros and play. PS2, 360, GameCube, I feel that was PEAK in gaming history.
original xbox was around that era, not the 360
This console has strengthened the bonds between us cousins and some nieces and nephews during the summer break when we were younger. Those were cherished days. Very nostalgic.
Wtf are you talking about
@SubwaySam10 are you really that dumb
Man the smartphones have made humans more uncivilized. The scene here was complete serenity... magazines and books while we wait
Ps2 sold all over the world, you think chaos didn't happen?
It didn't happen in this particular store but on every store i'm not so sure.
Stop looking at the past with rose tinted glasses.
@@darklex5150nah these type of launch parties were everywhere. People used to go to live in the moment. Now people go to post online and live in the past

Back when I actually enjoyed playing football games. Good times.
Ah good times! I miss those days. Still own a PS2. I'm glad people filmed moments like this back then so we can take a nostalgia filled journey today!
I agree and still own too
See how much more chill the fans are. Like it's their hobbies and a passion but not their lives.
Not their lives? How can you get that from this short video? Did you miss the part where the guy said he probably wont get any sleep just to play his console?

The times where people used to read magazines. I miss these times.
The magazines are still there.
I wish people called gaming consoles "entertainment systems" still
Gonna start calling phones distraction consoles
This is awesome. I miss the days like this. No one on their phones and talking to people in public was acceptable. Great video!
There's a reason nobody wants to talk to you in public, and it's not because of smartphones 😂

I grew up in this time and people still weren't talking to each other randomly wtf are you on?
They had phones in this era, nice ones, and pdas, which were basically smartphones.
And PS2 did not disappoint. Great memories as a kid.
THAT thumbnail is the embodiment of gaming to me...and its what i truly miss the most.
Sitting next to your buddies, playing games. Talking about the ups and downs of your journeys through life and just enjoying friendly company!
