- Honda 400ex build assemble part 12 Lost Footage Footage (continued from part 12). Assembling the motor top end, Wiseco piston rings, KMS Performance exhaust studs, carburetor intake boot in the engine on the trx400ex. This was accomplished by installing the exhaust studs into the cylinder head, computing the Wiseco piston ring end gaps tolerance against the cylinder (jug) size, measuring the piston ring end gaps in the cylinder (jug), making sure all the piston ring end gap placements are properly aligned, installing the piston rings in the proper orientation, inserting & torqueing all the bolts, and adding o rings and loctite (thread locker) & anti-seize copper thread lubricant. The engine cases were vapor blasted. This is an atv quad 4-wheeler rebuild.
** Thanks to Edwin (a subscriber)! ... for asking the question that made me realize I never added this footage to the build! I will be inserting this into the playlist at the proper postion where it should have been all along!

Very good video and teach me more thing easy understand please make more video ( thanks you)

Thanks! - \m/…(>.
Loving this 400 build man...keep it up brother.
So incredibly helpful, thanks man!
Glad I could be of service!
Got them post notifications on !
I love this! This shits awesome!!
Great video, hows the niche cylinder holding up
How do your videos get less than 1k veiws?? The build looks great so far!
Hello Brother, I have a trx 400 ex 05 and I was wondering what is the best oil that I can use in this engine? original honda gn4 10w40 or do you advise a better one?
How did the Niche cylinder hold up would you purchase again? I need a cylinder and it cheap or crazy expensive. Recreational rider around farm.
I haven't had any problems with it ... probably be fine for recreational riding
@@11GalleryATV would u susjest a full niche kit? Trying to rebuild mine cheapest
@@theyzoomers I didn't have any problems with the niche cylinder - my top end kit was "Parts Ace" from eBay and I didn't have any problems with that either ... now the Wiesco bottom end kit is another story ... I just got done pulling the crankshaft and replacing with OEM and OEM crank bearings ...
Hey that screw hole to the left of the bottom of the intake boot what is that threaded hole for my bike has the same thing on my new head.
I'm not sure because that hole is not on the OEM cylinder heads, only the Chinese knock-off have them. My guess is that is either there as part of the mold or it is for another application like a 400 dirt bike or something else that needs that mounting hole for something.
I may have missed it in the description, but do you have the link to the exact cylinder, head, and piston that you used. I know you mentioned the brands in the video but was wondering if the whole thing was a kit
They were all purchased on eBay at different times and the links do not exist anymore ... the crank, main bearings, piston, rings, timing chain, and cylinder (cylinder came as "Niche" brand) all came in one kit from Wiseco (it came in a box called "Wiseco Garage Buddy") - the cylinder head and cover were purchased together as a set and was ported and polished - and the cylinder head guts (rockers, shafts, valves, springs, etc) were purchased in another kit (came as "Niche" brand). The camshaft is also "Niche" brand. So it's really just a mix of Wiseco and Niche with the bearings all Honda OEM except the mains that were made in Japan (good quality not Chinese crap). The crankcase is also a 2007 Honda OEM stock case that I had vapor blasted. Both covers are brand new 2007 Honda OEM stock and powder coated black. Here is a link to the Top & Bottom "Wiseco Garage Buddy" kit ... www.ebay.com/itm/264697839568
Great videos. Just picked up a basket case 02 that had a botched rebuild in it. And heck yah nice and thorough. Very well done been rolling right thru this build series can't wait to start on the X build series. Had one of them years ago as well. Is that head an OEM or aftermarket just curious? Got a subscriber from Upper Michigan. Keep up the good work.
Ha ha watched another 10 mins got my own answer.
@@BitcoinYooper Thanks for the kind words ... yeah that cylinder head is not OEM, it is brand (Niche) and not the quality of OEM. I am not happy with it as the base gasket leaks already ... some of that is my fault though, as I should have surfaced it, but I didn't since it was brand new ... stupid me for not even checking! Also the timing chain is stretched already also (Wiseco). Not going good!
@@11GalleryATV Thanks for the review. So head and cylinder are Niche? Cylinder seem to be holding up minus base gasket? Going to need a cylinder kit for mine, seems that brand is the leader in aftermarket engine components. How many hours you get on it before some of the problems started to happen?
@@BitcoinYooper Not many ... base gasket happened after the 2nd long ride ... forgot to mention that the gaskets are also not OEM ... BUY OEM GASKETS if you can! I got the Wiseco complete 2005+ 400ex top and bottom rebuild kit (came with Niche cylinder) - ebay.us/wSecmu
@@11GalleryATV That's to funny the roached kit in the wheeler I got is from the same company, young fella I bought it off of spend $600 on the 88mm big bore kit with stage 2 hot cam arp head studs...well could tell he didn't have a service manual. rocker cover missing a dowel, head was missing a dowel.tiny spacer behind the cam chain guide is missing, head studs where missing the correct washers, one had one but was not right. piston rings where oriented completely wrong, and the biggest blunder was the oil pump drive gear was on backward so could never engage the oil pump gear haha holy crap eh. Kinda surprised it still built 30 psi compression how smoked it was. Crazy what some folks do.
Hey sir where are you getting the specs for torque on the bolts I need specs on bearings frame etc I’m in the process of building a 400ex I have the engine done putting the frame back together and parts back now and need all the torque specs on em
He's got a 400ex book with the torque specs
a few different places ... I have a Clymer Manual and a couple of other manuals in pdf format - Honda TRX400EX Fourtrax/Sportrax and TRX400X 1999-2014 (amzn.to/3feSOMx)
How many hours will a 400ex last with everything new on the engine?
for the rest of humanity, if you take care of it ...
@@11GalleryATV good to hear it ,I just did a rebuild on my 08 400ex everything in the engine is brand new 👍
Just rebuilt mine too! Learned so much.
“Double nut hehehe”
My humor gets the best of me sometimes ... lol
the engine hardware where did you buy them or what brand are they
Well, here is some of it and I bought all of the stuff of eBay ... Wiseco Rebuild Kit Motor Engine Top Bottom End (Crank, Piston, Rings, Timing Chain, Gaskets, Seals, Cylinder Studs, etc), Niche Cylinder Jug, Niche Cylinder Head Rebuild Kit (valves, rockers, springs, etc), Kibblewhite Valve Seals, Wiseco Heavy Duty Billet Clutch. All the crankcase bearings (crankshaft mains, transmission, and counter balancer) are OEM and they came from www.motosport.com/oem-parts/honda/2007/trx400ex.
I bought a Kit similar to this. If anybody needs help, please ask me. I love to help.
My kit was a stock 85mm bore, 397cm. Stage 2 hotcams camshaft, 10:1 Wiseco 85mm piston. Cometic gaskets. I’m using stock OEM Valves & springs.
I’m building the exact same set up right now and am having trouble with the valve adjustment what did you set yours to ??thanks.
Never use oil on head threads it has no where to go and it will not seat all the way down and you'll think it is
Thank you for the tip ... I use a dab of moly grease now (very tiny dab)
