The problem is not the milk itself but the way oxytocin injections are plunged into the cattle, I've witnessed myself; an even worse scene that i can't ever forget is the calves' legs being bound with ropes so that tho' they are present before their mothers i. e. the cows so the milk flow is induced, the calves' themselves cannot access it. I wonder the mother's emotional state on being unable to feed its calf for which its milk is made by Nature in the body. Don't those emotions affect the hormones seeping into the milk? And don't we as a more evolved specie have alternatives to the various nutrients present in milk?

agree! I like Rujuta's perspectives but this video doesn't highlight lactose intolerance and like you said, the hormones being injected into cows these days as everything is now commercialized.. during the earlier days , milk was purer and hence good.. the purity of everything, let alone milk is highly questionable in today's world.. I do , however agree, that if milk /milk products suit one , then they could continue using the.. however, allergies to milk are very real

The cows nowadays are not A2 means with hump on neck.
We middle class consume A1 milk which we get from hybrid cows...
This is dangerous for 70-80% population as A1 milk is produced by injecting estrogen and other hormones which directly comes our way through milk.
That is the reason of lot of hormonal imbalances these days if we directly consume milk.
Milk derivatives like dahi, ghee are good but direct milk is big NO ( only for A1 type).

I never thought I could ever disagree with Rujuta on anything. So this came as a surprise. The idyllic picture of a little boy taking his cow out to graze while on his way to school in the Himalayas is a very poor representation of the ground reality of the dairy industry. The fact is, even in this beautiful vista, the cow was probably female and therefore a valuable commodity for the family.
If you've ever come across the soul shattering cries of a week-old abandoned male calf in the same beautiful Himalayan vista, I can guarantee that you would (even if only for a fleeting moment) definitely second guess your life choices. Does this happen? - Yes very much. Have I experienced it? - Yes. Have I quit dairy? - Yes. Was it difficult? - Initially yes because I was a vegetarian who survived on milk, paneer, curd and mithai. Do I regret it? - Absolutely not.
For the non-believers, if you ever have the chance to visit Himachal, there are forests around Manali replete with the carcasses of these innocent victims. There are many many such graveyards across the pristine Himalayan landscape.
Let's not even get started on how the same male calves are left to die of starvation in the "small milk farm" scenario in rural India. It gets only worse in the cities. As far as the female is concerned, she is raped over the course of her reduced lifetime just so that she can produce the elixir for healthy gut bacteria for us humans. Her children do not get their share of what is rightfully theirs and she doesn't get to even see her male progeny who are left to die in the most horrific circumstances. There are exceptions to these inhuman practices but they are few and far between.
The entire argument for supporting small farmers is valid. But this argument is more attuned to a time when the male progeny were reared up to be used for physical labour in the fields and the females for their milk producing abilities. Oxen were carefully selected to mate with the cow to ensure the best genetic makeup for the progeny - BOTH male and female. Traditional farmers also made sure that the calf was fed the mother's milk before the family used it to their advantage. The rich Indian culture of consuming milk and milk products that Rujuta refers to has its genesis in exactly this kind of cattle rearing - wholesome, inclusive, non-invasive and most importantly respectful. Sure Lord Krishna consumed butter and ghee. But how did he treat his cows?
Nothing about cattle rearing today is even remotely close to how cattle was raised in India in the past. Have you ever witnessed the way a cow is impregnated today even in the small farmer scenario? Or how many hormones and antibiotics she is pumped with just to ensure a certain level of milk production?
Rujuta has always maintained her stand against the reductionist approach to nutrition. I applaud her for it. However, reducing the entire argument for giving up dairy to just 'profits' is oversimplification at its best. This is not about alternatives to milk or California and its world dominance in almond production.
Consuming dairy is a personal choice just like consuming meat and meat products is. So let's keep the argument against dairy consumption based on facts and not an idealistic interpretation of history and culture, profit making or the east vs. west story.

Most people buy packet milk which is a type of industrialized milk because pasteurization improves the shelf life of milk and reduces its contamination. Processing milk industrially to also reduces (toned milk) or removes fat (skim milk) more effectively than can be done manually at home by simply removing the top layer of malai.
I have come to understand that a lot of food related advice depends on who you ask. So many people swear that they lost weight and reduced sugar levels by completely staying off dairy, rice and sugar. Ditto for high protein diets especially for vegetarians and vegans. we are told to have so much sprouts and beans to reach the 50-60g of protein rather than dals that one gets gas.
Another annoyance is the divided view on which food goes with hypothyroidism. For e.g, Flax seeds were considered a health food till the news got around that it is not good for those with thyroid issues. Ditto for pairing X food with Y. The conflicting views of different nutritionists is one of the major reasons why people find it tough to make right food choices for their specific condition. As a result weight loss, particularly for those suffering from weight gain due to slow metabolism and hormonal imbalance continues to be a frustrating challenge.

'Humans do a lot of things that animals don't'! Absolutely! Humans are capable of showing compassion! Humans will not build their health at the cost of the baby of another of God's beautiful creatures. When humans see the mother's hind legs tied at the time of milking and the male calf deprived of its food, I'm sure humans will feel for the poor baby and quit milk! I don't know if milk is good for my health or not but I'm not willing to acquire nutrition at the cost a beautiful male calf. Please everyone think about it. New born male calves are abandoned on the roads by small dairies and even if people like me carry them to a gaushala they die without the mother. Very very sad! The number is growing and it will keep growing if concerned individuals will show interest. We have always been a cow centric culture. Gaumata isn’t just a tag the cow has been carrying for thousands of years. It is sad that things are drastically different now. But the onus is on us to change the course of the things. Let’s start by understanding the rules of running a traditional Gaushala and how much milk is to be taken from a cow.

I had diary products for 30 years and i had continuous sinus issues, low energy etc etc..I got doagnosed with low thyroid also. My life changed for the better only after stopping diary fully after my kid was diagnosed with milk allergy while being breastfed. I dont have any sinus issues and many problems resolved and feel much better. Diary is inflammatory for majority of the people as its difficult for human gut to break down the protein in milk. If having any health issues, its better to stop diary and check.

Reality of Indian milk industry (yes your doodhwalas do it too):
    1. Cows/buffaloes are forcefully impregnated because only a mother gives milk and only for her child. They are forced to have kids every year and the vets do this process for a meagre Rs. 150 to Rs. 200. Shame to do this to a female. As a result if these forced constant pregnancies, her lifespan reduces from the normal 20+ years to just 5-6 years!
    2. Their children are not allowed to feed on them more than ince or twice a day. That too only so mother starts making milk and then the calf is pulled away. Male calf is left tied outside tabelas to die after which the disposal trucks pick up the carcasses. Or males are abandoned on roads or sold to slaughterhouses. All because these poor children cannot give milk.
    3. India is one of the largest exporters of beef and leather in the world. India is the largest buffalo meat producer in the world. Dairy is the backbone of all this.
    4. Watch Unholy cattle of India OR Deadly Dairy on UA-cam to understand the reality of the Indian dairy industry. Please. For these animals please watch it and learn the cost of your chai.

I agreed to her in many other aspects before but here she is being totally diplomatic. She is saying here in India cattles roam around only in the fields and eat grass etc .. This is right only in villages. I live in Bangalore and cows roam around in the city , eat grabage waste and owners don't even bother. I have rescued a cow who was suffering from vaginal tumor and when requested the owner to send her for treatment he denied and threatened us. He said he earns from her milk and he is not ready to send her for treatment. Sad part is she is bleeding and he is still milking her and making money. So stop saying here locals love their cattles etc.

Hello Ma'am ! I always looked up to you. But, I beg to differ here. I have seen with my own eyes, how gwallas inject hormonal injections (if though its an illegal practise), when I see the cow jumping in pain. I have seen how the calves are snatched and separated from their moms. These sights are very painful to watch. I don't consume milk from gwallas only because it reminds me of this sight. Even though, I am really unsure that the local milk brands like Sudha, Nandini, etc. or national ones like Amul don't indulge in such practices. I completely stand by your saying of not consuming store bought plant milks, although, I feel they can be made at home, but obviously can never replace the original milk. I just wished the world was a better place with more love and care for other beings than just humans.

@@miscmiscellaneous30 I don’t how to explain it to you. There is a part of your statement that is true. Industrial milking does exactly what you are saying. She is specifically referring to family based cow/buffalo or neighbors. Meaning it’s either the cow that’s with in the family or your neighbors family. I assume you probably are from a big city and might not have seen this. I come from rural to semi rural area most of my life. So my grandfather first thing when he woke up, he would untie the calf and let it drink it’s hear content only after it goes away then he would milk the cow/buffalo. We had both and ox too. All animals are treated as family and each one have their names. You may not believe it some have nakras too😃. Talking to pet dog maybe a norm now, but we rural people have been doing it for ages. So when I moved to a bigger town, we got milk from our neighbors who did the same thing. So there is no snatching concept. On top they are frequently fed other foods too which we used give not just grains and hay, because of nutrition value for example horsegram..
She is talking the same concept too, get milk from your known person. I hope this helped.
