(I may be wrong it's been a long while since I read Dave's auto Kink and Ray's X-Ray. they did not get along well during the Arista years. Ray was introducing Dave as "Mr Death of a Clown Dave Davies", there were the physical fights and Ray and Chrissie's affair.

For almost 4 decades the Davies brothers (and the great people hired to be in the band) supported their large families by playing live as The Kinks, and you don't do that by being a bad live band, and then they did the same thing as solo acts (and former band members played as The Kast Off Kinks, successfully!) Jean-Marie, how many times did you see them live ?. They were always a fantastic experience. I saw them probably in dozen times during the 70s and 80s. Sure, not the best technically, but great entertainment. The audience reaction before, during and after their shows proved that.
