I checked out the channel and watched the last two episodes because matpat honestly did enough to scare me I understood everything and am very happy she did it The only thing I didn't understand was the rock at the end
Yeah she did escape.......until the very end of the last episode and we see the darkness infected her and was creeping up the side of her face and then nothing for the last 3 years
Addition to the theory:I think that why HiImMaryMary takes place in MaryMarys parents house is because her parents probably thought bad about her and the house fuels her insecurities.
It could be that her parents also mention a lot of negative things, and as such, she thought about those things more and more, even though her parents didn't say it about or to her. There was an article I read once saying how if parents talk down about themselves about being overweight, their kids will most likely do the same, whether they are or aren't overweight. It could also be the opposite, that the house is a safe spot, like how your body is you and you should be your safe place, but instead of safety and comfort, anxiety and depression invade and make it feel horrible. And being outside, like with friends, and at school, makes you feel happy and comfortable, even though sometimes it is worse than at home (because, well, school in general, and maybe toxic relationships, though you don't notice because you are around others, whereas at home, you may be alone with only your thoughts.) Idk, this is all stuff that I notice about myself personally, but definitely differ between people. Your theory does make a lot more sense though, and I never would have thought of it. Good job!!

I've recently been having derealization/depersonalization episodes with clinical depression and I love seeing these kinds of videos It feels like I'm being validated and like it's ok to be "broken"
Can we also talk about how she is trapped in what is 'her parents' house, at least, a copy of it'? It represents that toxic minset that you are not your own person, just a continuation of your own parents, where a lot of guilt and shame about not matching to expectations or glory of your parents comes from. Such a tiny detail, but adds perfectly to the existing themes.
I haven’t seen the whole thing but as a person with plenty of mental disorders, I think the darkness is the actual center of everything and I think it is a traumatic event she has blocked out. If she doesn’t get too close, it’s just a strange and confusing sense of dread but when she catches it and actually touches it she instantly has to battle all her worst issues at once. I feel like just calling it anxiety is a bit off and I think Mary was sexually assaulted in some way therefore creating her problems with her body as well as her depression and anxiety. Edit: I just read a comment and remembered the whole thing takes place in her parents house and now I think that Mary was sexually assaulted as a child by someone close to her and her family and it happened in her parents house. She is stuck in this house because this house strengthens all her issues

MaryMary actually reminds me of an art project I made for Uni where I drew myself being, not thorn apart, but rather caressed and even comforted in a sense by 4 entities representing depression, stress, anxiety, and burnout. Depression was a big shapeless blob of oozing inky goo with sad hollow sockets. Burnout was a charred skeleton engulfed in flames. Stress was a giant spider creature made up of hundreds of tiny spiders with stretched-out springs for limbs. Anxiety was a weird centipede-like creature with 4 faces being torn in different directions, outlined in displaced blue and red ink. Yeah, I think I'm gonna stay clear of that series for my own mental sake.

Just as a message for the girls with image problems. As a guy, raised by a mother and 4 sisters and entirely raised by and with women. I can *honestly* tell you without sugar coating or trying to make you just feel better. You're fine. You look fine. Very few other people are concerned with how you look, everyone is worried about how _they_ look. Honestly, guys don't care about makeup and pretty outfits and jewelry, other girls do. Guys don't think you're disgusting for having a pimple or blemish, they don't care. Guys don't care if you get a stain on your shirt or notice things like deodorant stains or whatever.. It sounds harsh, but the truth is *no one cares.* That's a _good thing!_ because they care more about you as a person than your new shirt, or slightly off eyeliner. Guys like pretty girls either makeup and nice clothes, not because of those things, but because they give girls confidence and make them feel comfortable being themselves. That's attractive. Ask almost any guy alive and he'll tell you that his dream girl wears very littlemakeup, tee shirts and is just comfortable. Do yourself a favor and take a comfort day, wear something comfortable for you, skip the fancy makeup and jewelry and just wear something you'd wear around the house. Talk to a few people and try to have a nice day you'll see how much easier it will be. You'll see that your confidence and comfort will make others more comfortable and open and help you get closer to people. I hope this can help someone, because I've seen my sisters all deal with self image problems their whole lives and 2 sisters are married and one has a boyfriend she lives with and the main thing I notice is they finally just decided to be comfortable being themselves. As a guy it can be hard or intimidating to try to tell a girl that clothes and makeup don't matter because it feels important to them and you don't want to offend them or make them upset. Stuff can come out the wrong way if you're a teenage boy and say "I don't care about that stuff" and it sounds rude. Just try to remember, everyone is going through the same stuff. Everyone has issues with how they look, everyone is nervous and anxious and self conscious and everyone wishes they could just be comfortable and be themselves. I'm not the best at explaining or helping people, but if I wasn't clear... feel free to ask.
I was not expecting this to hit so close to home, holy crap. Also, regret feels more like trauma that simply brings regret along with it. Like “If I had done this differently, this wouldn’t have happened to me.”
I have never felt mental health problems to this extreme but I know a far bit about it. The warnings and the way you described them as exactly how my friends with these issues showed.

For the Shadow, more than just regret, I think it also represents avoidance. I struggled with anxiety when I started falling behind academically, and I would avoid my responsibilities for things I enjoyed because the sheer amount of work I had to do only increased my anxiety because of how overwhelming it was. But then I would recognize I was avoiding the things I had to do, and that "safe space" I created by avoiding was suddenly tainted by guilt. I related that experience to MaryMary's experience with the Shadow, how, especially when she starts going to the Garden, she avoids confronting her monsters or trying to deal with them in a healthy manner. But that's just how I interpreted it.
I actually wrote a short story based on this channel. It’s not a rip off but I used the idea of monsters representing mental illness. I actually love the idea of personifying mental illness to better show how scary it can be
Yeah the horror themed episodes of film and game theory always seem to be the best in my opinion. I haven't seen the videos but I'm going to guess that the final monster will be the version of her dressed in white and will represent drug use. A sudden and addictive escape from all her negative feelings that gradually makes them all even worse.
I love it when you cover the "creepypastas" that are on UA-cam. They are always my favorite videos, since you can analyze them in a way I probably wouldn't.
While I agree these arent really creepypastas, its an ARG. The difference is a creepypasta is more of a story in written form and stuff while an ARG take place in the real world in real places and sometimes encourages you to go to said places and has puzzles, suprises, codes, and sometimes the creator will leave behind little presents for those who go to the locations
This is why I put quotations around it. It feels kinda wrong to even call it a true ARG, since when I think of ARGs, I think of the puzzles and searching around and stuff. This just feels like a story that's being told.

It’s my personal belief that the Shadow represents Trauma. Something happening in her past that continues to manifest in so many different ways. As a personal holder of trauma, her blaming of herself, saying she messed up, is so common. It makes you feel like it’s your fault. But trauma can also give you moments of emptiness, and even extreme moments of regret like was mentioned. It looms over you. Some days it’s worse, some days its better. But always, ALWAYS present.
Just finished "Rain" and the garden kind of feels like escapism to me. It's the feeling of "this is the thing that makes it better" when you're in the high of a new relationship, moving to new place, or some drug in the early stages of use. Slowly, the cracks show, and the darkness seeps in. It can even come back stronger because it brings with it a sense of " nothing is going to help " / " there is no happiness for you" / "there is no escape"
100% agree. It DEFINITELY seems like suicidal thoughts and not anxiety. As least it mirrors my personal struggle with MDD/suicidality...as well as everything I've ever seen in other folks with MDD (I'm a mental health therapist).
It would make sense. Self harm could be the garden, an escape from the monsters inside the house. Suicide would be the one who lives there, and as it slowly gets darker, suicide becomes more prevalent, a looming possiblity, starting to show cracks in the seemingly perfect escape.

This was an ARG. I knew exactly what was going on in this video. It was not a "nightmare", or "Homemade Horror". I feel like every single thing in this video is most definitely only symbolic of every feeling that comes along with things like depression, anxiety, panic disorder/attacks, and possibly PTSD. I believe the way it is presented, is meant to be strange, creepy, shocking, and leaving you feel unsettled. I believe this was done because, unless you experience these types of things, it's really hard to understand the intensity of fear, feeling isolated, anxiety, and the emotions someone experiences in this state. The only way to make someone understand what severe trauma can do to someone is for some reason just too hard to fathom if they've never had to deal with it. I believe that was the reason for the intensity of fear, confusion, and creep factor. This, if you can stop seeing only, "OMG this is SO disturbing", you can understand who Mary is, and what she is dealing with. I have been wondering if this may have been a college project, by one, or a group of students. Possibly Psychology??

I feel like "Regret" is actually "Trauma". A lot of my trauma responses are very similar to how "Regret" makes her feel
Right? Also because how the presence of trauma can make the tension so uncomfortable, ESPECIALLY whenever someone acknowledges it's presence. It's like when someone makes a joke about their dead parents are something. It's such a silent thing, but the moment it's brought up, it's so slow to remove completely. Even when you move away from the topic, it always comes back into the ambiance

MaryMary actually reminds me of an art project I made for Uni where I drew myself being, not thorn apart, but rather caressed and even comforted in a sense by 4 entities representing depression, stress, anxiety, and burnout. Depression was a big shapeless blob of oozing inky goo with sad hollow sockets. Burnout was a charred skeleton engulfed in flames. Stress was a giant spider creature made up of hundreds of tiny spiders with stretched-out springs for limbs. Anxiety was a weird centipede-like creature with 4 faces being torn in different directions, outlined in displaced blue and red ink.
Yeah, I think I'm gonna stay clear of that series for my own mental sake.

Just as a message for the girls with image problems.
As a guy, raised by a mother and 4 sisters and entirely raised by and with women. I can *honestly* tell you without sugar coating or trying to make you just feel better.
You're fine. You look fine. Very few other people are concerned with how you look, everyone is worried about how _they_ look. Honestly, guys don't care about makeup and pretty outfits and jewelry, other girls do. Guys don't think you're disgusting for having a pimple or blemish, they don't care. Guys don't care if you get a stain on your shirt or notice things like deodorant stains or whatever..
It sounds harsh, but the truth is *no one cares.* That's a _good thing!_ because they care more about you as a person than your new shirt, or slightly off eyeliner. Guys like pretty girls either makeup and nice clothes, not because of those things, but because they give girls confidence and make them feel comfortable being themselves. That's attractive.
Ask almost any guy alive and he'll tell you that his dream girl wears very littlemakeup, tee shirts and is just comfortable.
Do yourself a favor and take a comfort day, wear something comfortable for you, skip the fancy makeup and jewelry and just wear something you'd wear around the house. Talk to a few people and try to have a nice day you'll see how much easier it will be. You'll see that your confidence and comfort will make others more comfortable and open and help you get closer to people.
I hope this can help someone, because I've seen my sisters all deal with self image problems their whole lives and 2 sisters are married and one has a boyfriend she lives with and the main thing I notice is they finally just decided to be comfortable being themselves. As a guy it can be hard or intimidating to try to tell a girl that clothes and makeup don't matter because it feels important to them and you don't want to offend them or make them upset. Stuff can come out the wrong way if you're a teenage boy and say "I don't care about that stuff" and it sounds rude.
Just try to remember, everyone is going through the same stuff. Everyone has issues with how they look, everyone is nervous and anxious and self conscious and everyone wishes they could just be comfortable and be themselves.
I'm not the best at explaining or helping people, but if I wasn't clear... feel free to ask.

For the Shadow, more than just regret, I think it also represents avoidance. I struggled with anxiety when I started falling behind academically, and I would avoid my responsibilities for things I enjoyed because the sheer amount of work I had to do only increased my anxiety because of how overwhelming it was. But then I would recognize I was avoiding the things I had to do, and that "safe space" I created by avoiding was suddenly tainted by guilt. I related that experience to MaryMary's experience with the Shadow, how, especially when she starts going to the Garden, she avoids confronting her monsters or trying to deal with them in a healthy manner. But that's just how I interpreted it.

Yeah the horror themed episodes of film and game theory always seem to be the best in my opinion. I haven't seen the videos but I'm going to guess that the final monster will be the version of her dressed in white and will represent drug use. A sudden and addictive escape from all her negative feelings that gradually makes them all even worse.

While I agree these arent really creepypastas, its an ARG. The difference is a creepypasta is more of a story in written form and stuff while an ARG take place in the real world in real places and sometimes encourages you to go to said places and has puzzles, suprises, codes, and sometimes the creator will leave behind little presents for those who go to the locations
This is why I put quotations around it. It feels kinda wrong to even call it a true ARG, since when I think of ARGs, I think of the puzzles and searching around and stuff. This just feels like a story that's being told.

It’s my personal belief that the Shadow represents Trauma. Something happening in her past that continues to manifest in so many different ways.
As a personal holder of trauma, her blaming of herself, saying she messed up, is so common. It makes you feel like it’s your fault.
But trauma can also give you moments of emptiness, and even extreme moments of regret like was mentioned. It looms over you. Some days it’s worse, some days its better. But always, ALWAYS present.
Just finished "Rain" and the garden kind of feels like escapism to me. It's the feeling of "this is the thing that makes it better" when you're in the high of a new relationship, moving to new place, or some drug in the early stages of use. Slowly, the cracks show, and the darkness seeps in. It can even come back stronger because it brings with it a sense of " nothing is going to help " / " there is no happiness for you" / "there is no escape"

As least it mirrors my personal struggle with MDD/suicidality...as well as everything I've ever seen in other folks with MDD (I'm a mental health therapist).

It would make sense. Self harm could be the garden, an escape from the monsters inside the house. Suicide would be the one who lives there, and as it slowly gets darker, suicide becomes more prevalent, a looming possiblity, starting to show cracks in the seemingly perfect escape.

This was an ARG. I knew exactly what was going on in this video. It was not a "nightmare", or "Homemade Horror". I feel like every single thing in this video is most definitely only symbolic of every feeling that comes along with things like depression, anxiety, panic disorder/attacks, and possibly PTSD. I believe the way it is presented, is meant to be strange, creepy, shocking, and leaving you feel unsettled. I believe this was done because, unless you experience these types of things, it's really hard to understand the intensity of fear, feeling isolated, anxiety, and the emotions someone experiences in this state. The only way to make someone understand what severe trauma can do to someone is for some reason just too hard to fathom if they've never had to deal with it. I believe that was the reason for the intensity of fear, confusion, and creep factor. This, if you can stop seeing only, "OMG this is SO disturbing", you can understand who Mary is, and what she is dealing with. I have been wondering if this may have been a college project, by one, or a group of students. Possibly Psychology??
