This video addresses a common mistake made by those dealing with anxiety, particularly health anxiety. Drawing from personal experience of overcoming severe anxiety, the speaker highlights the futile cycle of seeking reassurance from medical tests and external validation, only to spiral back into anxiety. The core issue, it's argued, lies in the persistent "what if" questions that fuel anxiety. The solution? Gradual exposure therapy, confronting and challenging these fears bit by bit. By resisting the urge to give in to anxiety-driven behaviors and gradually proving to oneself that the feared outcomes are unfounded, recovery becomes possible. While this approach may initially feel triggering, it's likened to exposure therapy for phobias, where gradual exposure leads to desensitization. Ultimately, the message is one of empowerment and self-discovery, emphasizing that anxiety is not an insurmountable barrier and that recovery is achievable through patience and persistence.

I am very anxious when I travel but even at home I can be sitting on the sofa and I get a momentary pang of dizziness and it freaks me. I could be calm and this happens and this triggers the anxiety....Does anyone else get this?

I get that when I’m on high alert. After a while you think it’s going to get worse and you’ll collapse in public! I presume you’ve been checked out? Best way to get over it is to try make it happen. Hold your breath. Jump up and down, run up the stairs. Spin around on a chair. Do push up. Then see how you feel.

I stopped going to the doc, last cardio checkup was some 2 years ago ecg and echo and before that i had more various check ups , the doc said i should go out and start livin my life .
I still struggle with starting to exercise , everything that spikes my heart rate is beeing avoided -.- . Im getting better in leting the what if pass but for cardio its still there, what if there is now something , its been a while since last check , what if what if ... but ill get there, F cardiophobia :D

@skone9070 leave the what if and turn it into even whatever. Its only we can build our strength by reminding that we have been there b4 and its shall to pass ..so choise is our let it happen or stand firm and fight.

The fight or flight response cause the release of stress hormones that create fear. When the fear is not external? Then the mind says, “it must be internal “. Then Unconsciously we start looking and imagining an endless world of negative and scary thoughts which in turn create more adrenaline and cortisol and sodium lactate to name a few. All your senses become heightened further creating symptoms that scare you!

My weight has went down these past few days. When I try to eat, I suddenly feel like I’m full when I haven’t eaten anything for hours. After I eat, I often release a huge burp, it’s like a lot of gas has been inside my stomach. Also, I’m afraid to eat much and be very full because being bloated makes me feel that it’s hard to breathe and my gas would start to build up on my chest making me feel more difficult to breathe. I’m scared to eat products with dairy, I avoid acidic foods, I’m scared to eat anything actually because I’m afraid of feeling gas building up inside me again and not being able to eat well. Now I’ve become really thin. Only me anyone?

I want to eat a lot really bad and I really want to gain weight. But even eating ice cream scares me because after eating it my saliva thickens making it hard to gulp and my chest would start to feel itchy maybe because of gas. Anxiety really sucks

That's actually my main fear.. I once had a sudden surge of panic from top to bottom after a stressful period of health anxiety and it drove me to depression and i eventually got well without medication.. but somehow subconsciously I had developed a fear about getting depression back and eventually I got that same "sudden surge" last year and I went on to internet.. from having nureo problem to brain tumor to cancer to finally fixed on going crazy... I m afraid of having uncontrollable thoughts that would make me insane.. I never had physical symptoms that troubled me.. all I have are mental problems like - i constantly talk to myself in my head 24/7 thinking about how to recover,it became automatic i couldn't stop it..and when I sleep i always remember tiny details of dreams.. songs repeating in my head.. like I wish I had physical symptoms.. I don't know how to get out of my head.. it's become my behaviour

Thanks for this my brother. I've been dealing with this for a year and a half now. Started with chest pains and thought it was heart related. Seen a cardiologist and all came back well. Felt myself getting better then after a panic attack it came back. Seeing my blood pressure rise freaked me out but I understand it's all part of anxiety. Felt myself getting better this year when I felt numbness on my left side. Got an MRI done because I thought it was a stroke and still everything is fine. Now I'm back to the "what ifs". It's crazy how anxiety can give you symptoms like something is wrong because new ones pop up. Thank you for these videos because they really remind me that nothing is wrong and anxiety only has the power you give it.

It's crazy!! But this is how every anxious person s story sounds. Try to connect all the symptoms to anxiety and slowly slowly.. in my case- very slowly they do go away.

thank you for this video! I would also like to ask to you, what should we do when we think that even if the sensations are from a panic attack, by ignoring and not listening to my body, I might be causing atrophy of my survival senses and if I continue to do so I might actually not recognize once there is an actual threat?

I know you gave the example about cardiophobia because I know a lot of health anxiety sufferers deal with that. I deal with brain/head issues. With constant pain and pressure 24/7 as well as neck/throat tension and shoulder tension that doesn’t go away with massages or chiro or anything like that. Medicine doesn’t help. What would you suggest that could be similar to running for people dealing with heart fears but people dealing with head fears? I have been running daily for the past week or so but, I’ve never been afraid of heart stuff. Thank you so much for your videos

Before the pandemic I never thought that anxiety could affect you that intensely. I used to only have small amounts of anxiety and honestly I wish I could have those small amounts of anxiety instead of having health anxiety
Because this health anxiety shit is another beast like GODDAMN BRO!!! It's the worse and it legitimately made me feel like I was losing control. I've had days when I've been terrified out of my mind. I didn't know how to deal with it at all
I've had way too many symptoms to even count on one hand lol
Head pressures, chest pain, muscle cramps, tensed body, body shakes, overthinking, intrusive thoughts, heart palpitations, numbness, vertigo, depersonalisation, feeling like nothing around me is real, State of panic and fear, impending doom, neck pain, shortness of breath etc...
All that happened a week after having my first ever panic attack. I had a caffeine withdrawal and then all those symptoms just started occurring out of nowhere. I've had some really bad insomnia at the time as well, had a lot of days where I couldn't fall asleep at all. I was trying to couldn't sleep one bit. So I was just awake, bloodshot eyes on the internet trying to look for a solution to my problem. I remember obsessively watching podcasts about anxiety and I would just do that everyday.
Having anxiety for the first time and not knowing who to talk to was most definitely a challenge for me and I've never been through that before in my life so this is quite new for me
I've only had social anxiety but that was nothing compared to having health anxiety non-stop. I'm scared of everything now. I hate feeling this way. I just want my normal self back🥲
