2022 Kia Sportage Hybrid - the best Kia Sportage EVER!

- The 2022 Kia Sportage comes with three different powertrain options, 1.6T, 2.0D, or 1.6T based hybrid. And today, we have the all-new Kia Sportage with the 1.6Turbo based hybrid system. Usually, atkitson cycle engines are used for the hybrid setup, but not for this Kia Sportage. Rather the same 1.6Turbo is used and on top of that Kia had added 44.2kW electric motor, so the total system output comes out to be about 230ps and 258lb. ft of torque. The Kia Sportage hybrid is mated to 6 speed automatic and there isn’t any AWD system for the hybrid. So, let me tell you why this hybrid model is the best Kia Sportage EVER!

I am correcting myself, guys! The 2022 Kia Sportage Hybrid comes with an optional AWD system. I am sorry for the confusion.

Does this mean you expect customer-delivered cars to perform better? You make a lot of comparisions to the 1.6T but never again mention that something was wrong with it. Seems an unfair comparison if there was something wrong. Can you elaborate?

There is a little difference in lower grill in the front facia between this hybrid and the petrol engine you reviewed. I prefer the former.
Nice that this is faster but the engine sounds loud and revs Hugh when you were putting it to the test like it was squealing in pain. Wish it had AWD because that is necessary for those of us in heavy snow areas. Lovely review as always.

Very much the recent KIA design. I have been waiting for this. I am going to be getting one of these for sure. Can’t wait until they come out in America. Here we will get the 2.5. I like this better because it comes with dual port injection. We don’t have to worry about the direct injection ruining the engine prematurely here.

Great review like always! I was interested until I heard “no AWD”. 😞 The Seltos has my eye due to this, but then there’s no hybrid option. Need a small suv with both these options from KIA!

Love your channel as it gives me a preview of what's coming to the US. I own a Tucson AWD Hybrid, what's your opinion on the Sportage vs Tucson in Handling, Acceleration, Driving Dynamics? My last car was a Acura RDX AWD and I was really surprised that the Tucson was much closer to the RDX in those aspects (while being significantly cheaper and double the gas mileage).

Great review. I want to see the review of Kia Sorento PHEV 2022 doing 0 to 60.
I have seen the santa fe or Sorento PHEV failing to go faster than 8.2 seconds. While the salesperson says it should do 6.5 seconds. Something is not right with these PHEVs of KIA & HYUNDAI. With more powerful motor they should be able to do 6.5 but none of them are able to do 7 or better.

I have no idea. I think both Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage should have similar turning radius.
@@AsianPetrolheadThe turning circle (curb to curb) SHOULD BE between 10.5 to 10.9 meters. Can anyone confirm? 10.9 meters makes it easy to navigate parking lots, making U - Turns etc.

thats killer MPG, i get 18 city and 23 highway in my crossover non-hybrid, best i done so far was 25mpg on long trips.

For Korean spec models, yes you have to use wires. But hope you guys get this all new Kia Sportage with wireless apply carplay. Thanks Drogos79.

I love this design compared to my old 2012. I hope Kia also adds a plug - in hybrid to the mix. I still think I would choose the EV-6 over this model. I'm wondering do you sit higher in the Sportage compared to the EV-6

Funny in America this seems to be the new 2023 kia sportage hybrid sx prestige trim which is top of the line but we dont get some of the features as you do in Korea which I feel if the car is made in Korea it should have the features like heated rear seats and the walking passenger seat. They have the navy/gray interior only available on the ex trim which I really like but I tested the sx prestige that gives you the blacked out trim and the bigger screen and the blind spot in the gauge cluster all led lights and the smart parking which the ex just has a premium package we could add on which gives us the panoramic roof and power lift gate and some lighting features. Since dealerships arent getting that much inventory it's hard to get the vehicles we want and then theres a dealership mark up. This drove better than the rav 4 which won me over I'm just worried about the turbo engine and its reliability.
Definitely the Kia design all the way n like always u do a great job w the reviews, watch out #Redline☺🙋

Not really. I think 1.6 Turbo base hybrid is the best option, if you are okay with the extra charge.
How does it compare to Tuscon hybrid in handling? I am based on US, here Tuscon hev is AWD. So a fair comparison needs AWD for both though...

It is somewhat tragic that car manufacturers always charge enough for the efficient versions of their cars, like the extra $5k here, which when you add in the cost of insurance, depreciation, and taxes, cancels out all of the savings on the gas you save. No real progress is being made while this is happening. I noticed that Ford has put Hybrid in their lowest model of the new Maverick, this is a very positive development, and I hope that Kia gets that message.

I did have one important question tho:
How is the road noise and wind noise at high speeds on the high way? Here in the US most of our driving is done on the highways at 100km-120km per hour. How quiet is the inside at those speeds?
And how is the ride compared to the Tucson? Is it as comfortable and fun as the Tucson? Knowing these two will tell me whether I should put a deposit down to secure this SUV or look for another. Thank you!

No AWD available? In the states they did this with the Sorento. Makes little sense to me because I live in the north. Won’t do front drive only with all that torque. Waiting for Sorento AWD PHEV or this in PHEV AWD.

In Australia, Toyota hybrids are quite popular as Toyota only charge an extra 2000-3000 AUD for the hybrid models, which use much less fuel and are also nicer to drive.

The huge issue with these styles of cars is the massive pull down in resale value. It's common for anything 'Hybrid' to cop a 70% depreciation fairly fast. This is something that's rarely ever spoken about.

Both design directions are good. When it comes to 3:18 and nee EV vehicles for city usage I would pick Hyundai cause from functional aspect it looks more suitable. When it comes to Kia would prefer that design of EV if I were to travel over 100-150km daily but didnt like the sound isolation measurements compared to some other EVs. So I would go with hyundai in this particular example. In general both are ok.

No AWD is unfortunate, and not sure if it can still tow 2000 lbs. I think the Sorento has the same powertrain but with AWD and can tow, but it's a bigger heavier vehicle with 3rd row seating that I don't need.

That is very nice. I would say, Sportage looks and feels more like SUV, while Kia Niro feels morel like a car.

Please always mention the body weight as well, for weight to power ratio, otherwise knowing only hp or torque is just half of information

What's so weird on pricing is that I got back from Joe Myer's Kia and they want $36,550 before tax, title, more fees USD for a non-hybrid EX trim, yet in Korea the more expensive hybrid trim is only $26K??? Yet I hear in Korea that Korean made Samsung TVs cost more in Korea than they do in the USA.
