- The #KiaSportage has been around since 1994 and for 2023, #Kia goes all out on the redesigned #Sportage and introduces the first-ever #SportageHybrid and #SportagePHEV. The plug-in hybrid sits at the top of the family and with up to 32 miles of EV only range, 261 HP, and the most interior space in the segment, its an appealing new entry in the crowded compact SUV segment.

We should be driving the new Sportage and Sportage hybrid in late April! Kia claims it has the most room in the segment now, do you guys prefer it over the Hyundai Tucson?
I actually like this one better than the tucson
Tucson’s design team should be taking notes…
Yes I prefer it over the Tucson as far as looks. Can’t imagine it will drive much differently
@@alberthwang83 well, not really. They are supposed to look different.
Does hybrid model come out at the same time as gasoline model?
KIA's design team really stepped it up 🔥🔥
They stepped it up 4 years ago when the Stinger came out. Such an amazing car.
KIA design already kill Honda n toyota ❤❤❤
Kia, Hyundai, & Genesis are killing it in terms of design, quality, & innovation--a world of difference from my friend's 1986 Excel that even new, shook on the highway at 60 mph!
Everyone has come along way since 86 😑
yep now but recalls from the past
At least KIA & Hyundai recognise & admit their failures with their vehicles from the past so they focus on QC in the manufacture process. Also, really glad to see Hyundai (Genesis as well) and KIA continue to release more HEV & PHEV and EV vehicles especially with the existing models not being discontinued and getting electrified (Like the new gen Sorento and Sportage) with cooler designs, technology, convenience, improved powertrain and performance. Can't wait for the debut of the 2nd Gen Niro in North America later this year or early next year, and it would be amazing to see the electrified Seltos and Telluride in the next few years!
@@VaunShiz tell that to Nissan and Mitsubishi
Maybe where you live. I just returned my Genesis GV80 Prestige yesterday and had the dealership buy it back after a full yesr of ownership. It’s been the worst customer service we’ve ever had. The car has also not had heat from one side since December 15, 2021…. and it still wasn’t fixed when I took it in yesterday. The engine also ran very rough in temps colder than -25 celsius. The mechanic I spoke to said that was common across all V6’s in the Hyundai family. The courtesy GV70 loaner they gave me confirmed this as the next morning it was actually worse sounding than our car. Genesis looks great, feels great and has decent power but the brand sucks and I don’t get a feeling of longevity from their vehicles…. at least not in Canadian winters. We put our deposit in on an ugly, boring old 2022 Lexus RX350. Old faithful!
I like it. Using real automatic rather than CVT already makes this so much more appealing than most competitors.
eCVT is better than automatic for PHEV, unless you're flooring it all the time. In EV mode you don't get a real EV feeling, you can feel the transmission shift, and the engine is a lot more obvious when it comes on.
@@Kenman884 "You can feel the transmission shift..."
Yes, that's the point lmao
@@edwink1467 You can feel it shifting in EV mode too. It's really weird.
updated logo itself was a massive styling improvement
I sat in that green Kia today at the auto show, the seats were among the most comfortable seats in the entire auto show, even when compared to luxury cars.
Agree.felt the same.
Much improved over the last generation. I prefer the Sportage over the Tucson.
Love my Tucson,!
Agree. Look forward to seeing the Plug-in version.
The piano black all over the center stack just makes no damn sense. Those center stack buttons are going to look like ass after one month of keys, nails, rings, coffee splashes, and finger grease.
Only looks nice at the auto show where it's getting cleaned every 10 minutes.
They should supply a box of white gloves...
The blue really looks good on this car.
I like it! I’d personally take it over the new Tucson, even though I like that car as well.
Wow I’m impressed with what Kia/Hyundai is doing. I’m a Honda fan and currently have an accord and is waiting to interesting new and affordable products from Honda but they haven’t been doing anything interesting lately. Kia/Hyundai give you a lot for the money and the interior design is just beautiful for a car in the affordable/economy segment. Great job Kia👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Hyundai/Kia/Genesis Hired the right people Audi Designers, BMW Handling Engineers, Etc. at the right time and treated them very well. Just 11 years ago everyone was in awe over the 2011 Sonata Styling. What other Gasoline Car Maker has grown at the rate that they have in the past 11 years?
Do you work for them?
@@lawnmowerdude so no one is allowed to like Hyundai and Kia?
KIA Spotage got mega hit here in Korea. Europe & North America will like it too.
This new Kia Sportage seems to edge out its twin, the Hyundai Tucson. Cool vehicle! I know they don't exactly compare, but I'm torn between the new Sportage and a Stinger Gt-Line...
Looks great! One of the more exciting entry level crossovers out there.
With its size increase, is the new Sportage still "entry level"?
Sofyan this vehicle has the hotness🤤🔥
Wow!!!!!! Kia, Hyundai & Genesis Are Definitely Ahead Of This Game Now. Also I Totally Love The Paint Job On This Brand-new SUV & I Love The Design As Well. But Great Review Sofyan.
That matte is beautiful
Saw one on the road today for the first time. This thing is MINT. The all black is nuts.
I’m genuinely surprised. For the first time in ages Kia is actually starting to make good looking vehicles!
Love the 🇺🇸 phev version. My money is siting in the bank, ready.
PHEV. The best of both worlds. Electric for local miles (80%), gas for road trip miles (20%). Cheaper. Much less (80%) battery manufacturing pollution.
Thanks for covering all of the details I care about in such reviews. Always impressed with the cross-knowledge you use in making educated guesses of missing specs.
oh i love how you tripped while trying to moon walk pass the front of the car MJ would be soo proud😂
Dang, we were hoping you wouldn't notice that LOL
Looks solid inside and out.
Welcome to Chicago love redline reviews 🏁
Holy moly Kia really stepped up their game compared to the previous generations! I like that hybrid model with the Blue color. Hopefully dealerships don’t mark it up like crazy…
Omg. Enough with the sequential turn signal comment on every vehicle lately, lol. Good review tho, as always.
I guess it's a way to get smug assholes to actually use their signals
Oh my gosh it's beautiful! And I'm a sucker for anything navy. To find it in a car is awesome! Thanks for the video
back in 2008 we down sized all of our V8 and V6 to smaller engine. 2022 returning $5+ gas, we will be downsizing V6 and I4, and Sportage Hybrid/PHEV sure looks appearing to replace the V6 Lexus we still have since it has overall similar dimension/capacity as RX. I just love KIAs LKA and overall interior design and functions right down to the sound system. we have three KIAs now and all have interiors wearing really "slowly" compare to the all the Lexus vehicles we had past 20+ years. HEV/PHEV is a good transition vehicle before committing to BEV. Keeping on rocking KIA and I will keep returning to your brand.
Huge improvement over the old model and I like the looks better than the new Tucson.
Many thanks for this review and including all three versions in the video. A PHEV would be a great solution to upgrade to from an HEV without taking on the extra issues related to a BEV for the next few years. The Tucson HEV does about 35 to 38 mpg, whereas the PHEVs will be rated in the 75 to 80 mpg range, assuming most of your daily driving is 30 miles or less. In Canada, we get a Federal grant of C$2,500 for this PHEV to cover the extra C$4,500 of cost over an HEV (on the Tucson) . So its a no brainer that it will cost less to run. You would recover the extra (net) $2,000 in under 3 years, and the car will last more than 10 to 15 years.
Introducing the 2023 Kia Grille.
It's got AWD, it's got hybrid power, and it's got all terrain tires.
I'm loving it! Will be trading in my wife's Soul (no pun intended) for the PHEV as soon as it becomes available.
2023 Kia Sportage, looks REALLY good (inside and out...)!. 👍🏼👌🏼😉
How much extra maintenance would the matte gray paint job require?
👌I ordered a plug-in hybrid a couple of days ago in Yucca steel gray. It will take about 4 months to get it here in Sweden 🇸🇪 , can`t wait!🤩
The Sportage looks great and should meet most folks needs 👍🏻
Love the front!
Edit: omg that interior 😍
Why Toyota and Honda can't make their cars cool as this one? The Korean never cease to amaze me..This is innovation futuristic at its best! I can't believe how far this car company has come. Job well done, KIA(Killing It Again)!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
The people designing half their cars aren't Korean 😂
@@VaunShiz I know..I'm not naive. I've been studying KIA and Hyundai for awhile now ..They just hired the right people to turn their brand around.. Germans who had worked on Audi/VW and BMW cars.
I hate that they keep making them bigger! Why not make a new model? The sportage was fine the way it was, this looks huuuge
The face looks a lot better in your video vs. stills. The amber turn signal continuing the bar in the grills is really nice
I did not expect to hear divorced headlight outside of Alex on Autos videos lol.
wow this is a killer loooking car inside out
Please do a review on the Kia Sorento 3-row PHEV. THANKS!
We should be getting one soon!
How much of a weight difference is there between the HPEV and non-HPEV?
Beautiful interior... but I kept getting distracted by the K5s in the background. I'm crossing my fingers they bring the K5 Hybrid to the American market for 2023!
Looks better inside and out. My wife has a 22 model but going bigger is the wrong way. Where are the nice compacts.
I'm lookng forward to be able to order my 2023 PHEV Sportage ASAP to replace my good ol' 2014 Flex and M235i. Hope the PHEV will be offered in the Jungle Green X-Line Premium.
That piano black in the interior, good lord... Other than that it's looking nice but I'm not sure I can live with the dust and prints on that piano black.
Glad Kia and Hyundai (Tuscan) PHEVs will give the Toyota RAV4 Prime some competition.
Love the front facia area 😍
This easily has the best-in-class interior. No other mainstream compact SUV even comes close.
I love the new designs of all of Kia’s new cars and SUV’s.
Does hybrid model have heads up display (HUD) in any trim?
Kia is on a roll, just not a big fan of the grill. Other than that, nice look SUV
Sofyan you have my dream job
He also has a dream ass. Wish he was my boyfriend!
Kia will be the number one brand this is amazing
Can't wait. Love that Matte Steel Grey color!
I luv the new Kia’s but I’m scared to leave Honda..
I have been looking forward to your review of this. It looks a bit too flashy and that front I can't seem to get over it. Would be looking forward to your review on the new mazda cx50 to make a choice on either
I really like the new sportage. I'm thinking of getting the plug in model, because the fuel cost on my stinger surpassed the 5000$ a year. Hopefully they will have enough inventory. Not like the EV6 that you need to wait between 10-12 month here in 🇨🇦
Do you have the GT or the GT line/ What kind of average mileage are you getting? And how fun is it really drive?
@@MrTriath1337 i have the GT AWD. I'm averaging 10.5L \100km. In the summer it's doing 9L\100km. It's an amazing car, but i didn't expect that a liter of 91 will cost 1.6$ . i drive 140km a day.
In 2023, this suv will be a strong contender for motor trend of year.
I like the look. I am skeptical about all the piano black. I imagine it being scratched beyond recognition fairly quickly.
I’ll take the fire risk for this ❤️🥴❤️🥴
What would you recommend more with this or the Tuscon? I am considering both Mid trim Hybrids.
Love the blue paint color! Exterior is......odd. guess I'd prefer the Tucson
I love everything but the front end
I love the matte gray exterior. Looks cool, but worried about the long term durability. Has anyone had experience with this type of paint?
That front end is a mess. Why can't Kia/Hyundai design something classy that will last. This one is so messy I don't know where to begin.
I respect how Kia and Hyundai are going for very radical styling to standing out more but I don’t know of I like the “bee hive/wasp nest” looking headlights on the new Sportage.
Love the All-New 2023 Kia Sportage and same as the new interior design 😍🔥
Bordering on a "busy" on the front, but overall I really like it, especially matte paint PHEV.
I can see the relentless innovation of Korean Car companies. The table have turned, their rivals need to watch out.
Rims are spectacular 👌
Looks amazing from the outside. I absolutely abhor the piano black in the center console
wrap it!
The tucson and sportage is the best deal!!!! For 2022
You mention no DC fast charging, because "of course" it's a PHEV. Recall that Mitsubishi offer that in their PHEVs.
Love Kia’s latest stuff and currently driving the KIA EV 2022…BUT, not a fan of the front end stying…that grill doesn’t do it for me…too busy. Looks like they had 3 different design teams working on it…the grill should have one key element that defines Kia…Like kidney grills for BMW…there’s a boomerang, two grills, etc…very odd.
Do you know if the phev has an option to recharge the high voltage battery while driving on a highway to get to thr city with a charged battery?
But will it be Available in red states?
Does anyone know when the sporage PHEV coming out :(
I’d argue that the shortage looks better than the sibling, Tucson.
Especially the interior!
Now its larger than my Equinox and that's a good thing.
kia is Amazing!! I got the xline Gas model 2 months ago and i love it though now I’m looking for a Hev Sportage
Well I like this over the Tucson for sure.
IDK… the front end looks really busy. Is Peter Schreyer not in charge anymore? The design language of the new Sportage doesn’t have any of the Peter’s influence he’s known for
The design looks fantastic, way better than the Toyota Corolla Cross which looks like an SV from 2005. Also Kia's new logo fits with their design styling on their lineup. I wish Hyundai changes their logo which is way out of date!
God damn, that front end is wild. Kia and Hyundai are taking big swings with design and I'm all for it.
Looks really smart
Wow. I’m in love.
I dont love the boomerang headlights tbh. But im beeing nitpicky its really good looking
I've seen so much hate on the design, and it ALMOST deterred me from considering the new Sportage...but I personally love how unconventional it is! Plus, the interior is SO good and THAT'S where I'll be sitting so it matters more!
Anyone debating Sportage phev vs kia ev6? I want to go all electric but this looks so much better and practical for a family
I have both. What would you like to know? Bought the EV6 in March and the Sportage 2 days ago.
Beautiful but no spare tire??
Very Nice Bro! Get Good People!
My NIRO PHEV has paddle shifters, but they control the amount of regen. Do the paddles on the Sportage control regen or the transmission?
I have the same NIRO PHEV and the paddles also controls the Transmission when on Sport Mode. I believe the approach shall be the same for the Sportage ;)
Always a fantastic review 😃
What is its "all electric range" (?) The Rav4 Prime has around 42 miles
I personally like the Toyota style ECVT as it seems way more robust than the muli speed units. This is a 6 speed auto but idk if it is a dual clutch. Which while it makes nice quick shift is almost guaranteed to be problematic.
Conventional transmissions do not have a dual clutch. Got it?
I have a 21 Venza with this ECVT. I miss a conventional automatic. The Venza can be somewhat quick but, the ECVT doesn’t shift and the engine (which is noisy) drones and drones sucking the joy out of driving. One winter and I can tell ya that the all-wheel drive characteristics of winter driving with a ECVT is poor compared to a 6 or 8 speed automatic. Live and learn I guess. Won’t be buying a ECVT or a CVT again.
@@ivandoneshefsky4762 I feel you yes it's not the best sounding for sure. But it's so robust I literally start and stop 100 to 1000 times a day. I floor every time just about. I tow trailers I beat the daylights out of it. I can floor it anytime in the engine never over revs. It never missed the shifts or shifts hard when it's cold. There's no torque converter to mess up there's no clutches to wear out. All the fancy stuff that's inside an automatic the shift solenoids multiple ones. It's not really reliant on the cleanliness or viscosity of the fluid and it's not breaking down friction material wearing itself out from the inside. If you never own a car more than 100 or 200,000 miles then I could see most of the other transmissions do last very well especially highway drivers. but Priuses go 400k to 500,000 miles without failures quite regularly even taxis service. I always wondered if they could just make a large version for the large diesel trucks how they would hold up because it seems like the large trucks always having transmission problems but maybe they're making too much money fixing them and selling $15,000 transmissions to worry about a solution.
I haven’t seen this interior anywhere yet
