- Let’s drive the 2022 Kia Sportage! Today, we finally have the all-new 5th generation Kia Sportage. Our press car came with a 1.6Turbocharged gasoline engine producing about 180hp and 195lb. ft of torque. The engine is mated to 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission and our 2022 Kia Sportage came with the optional AWD system. The Koreans are building beautiful cars nowadays both hyundai and kia, especially sportage, ev6 and kia stinger, 3 stunning cars, im a happy owner of kia sportage 2019 1.6gdi isg2 model in uk, great car i love it, definitely want this new sportage in 3 or 4 years time id go for the green colour 1st choice but would take any colour anyways, great review, well done kia beautiful car 😍👍👏

I do not like on new tuscon how middle console with shift by wire feels plasticy and cheap, also when you close the doors, they are very light. Third point that made me look away was seats. Seats feel like nothing special in basic variant.

Sportage seems to be aiming to a different crowd than the Tucson but suddenly switching to try to be sporty. e.g. suit hangers, fake wood finishes, chrome addons, traditional side and back and then a very busy front with sporty inside door handlers. I'll go with Tucson for the innovative look, Kia play it safe with the Sportage. It will be a great seller for sure but next gen of every car will look exactly the same as this one. Great review.

The front design is growing on me. The 2022 Kia Sportage looks much better in person.
The fuel economy seems massively improved over the new Hyundai models. My wife has the new Kia (in Highlander) spec and our normal driving barely gets under 10l\100kms.

Tuscon has hybrid AWD model, city Mileage: 36 mph, good torque and 0-60 in 7-8 seconds and limited hybrid model price tag is just below 40K USD.

Great review..well done. There is certainly more features on the KIa. I use to drive the older version of Kia, yes I agree it was slightly heavier. With the new Kia Design on the shortage, some how, i still like the front design of the new Hyundai Tucson.

Turn signals are upside down WiFi signal strength icons… but in all honesty it looks a lot better than all previous Sportage’s, not bad looking at all.I really like the interior and especially the two tone tan & black.
22 lbs isn’t going to make even a 10th of a second difference to the 0-60 time. If the gearing isn’t dramatically different then that car has a problem and needs a mechanic to take a look at it.

Hi, thanks for the review. I’m wondering which car is the best in terms of handling between the Arkana with a non-hybrid engine and the new Sportage hybrid 230 AWD? Arkana is lighter but Sportage AWD system may help struggling against understeering. What is your opinion? Thanks
Well, I think Arkana handles very nicely, too. But in terms of efficiency Kia Sportage hybrid is just better.
I always love your videos Charlie, thank you. I prefer the Kia Sportage, a bit slow though. My next car I THINK is going to be the Kia EV6GT. Only a £100 REFUNDABLE deposit to place an order. Bit of a no brainer really. Presumably Charlie the GT will be available to test in Korea before here in the UK. Interesting that the GT line dual battery has a real time 0-60 of 4.82 against the quoted 5.4. so in theory the GT could be just on 3 seconds which is very quick.
Honestly Korean cars is where the smart money should be spent. Keep the videos coming Charlie. A

I'd like to get your evaluation of the ride over bumpy or at least less smooth road surfaces. Suspension sophistication for Hyundai and Kia has been a weak area of performance, imo. Except that may be changing with the Ioniq5.
Well, the 2022 Kia Sportage has soft setting, so it has smooth ride, but as you have seen if you throw it around the corner, it still retains itself nicely. Thank you for enjoying the 2022 Kia Sportage review.

I'm very into all of the features on the seatbacks for the second row, that coat hook and charging ports are so practical. I'm very confused why Ioniq 5 doesn't have the charging ports there, but on the back of the center console instead.

In regards to the performance - you are testing with the 1.6turbo @ 180hp non hybrid but the hybrid +1.6 turbo will produce somewhere in the neighborhood of 226hp combined! Should have a positive result in acceleration!

Hi.. have you test driven 1.6L Petrol vs 2.0L Diesel? Any thoughts on whether Diesel is more powerful / better than Petrol, in terms of pick up, handling etc?
Yes, Diesel has better torque, but i like the 1.6turbo for its smooth power delivery. (Diesel more efficient) And this 2022 Kia Sportage handles miles better than the old one. Thanks Darpan.

What speed were you going on the highway to get that mileage? Would you expect the HEV or PHEV to match that despite their heavier weight?

@@AsianPetrolhead I enjoy your reviews! I do have some additional questions for clarification, though. Will the battery in the HEV mode be able to help with mileage if one is driving at 80mph? Other reviews of the Tucson with this engine indicates you only get in the 25mpg range at those speeds, so I'm not clear if those people were only reporting the gasoline portion of the mileage and ignoring the battery's help, or if the battery didn't function at those speeds.
Do you have any more insight into why the Sportage is so much slower 0-60 than the Tucson? I watched the videos back to back and you seemed genuinely satisfied with the Tucson's acceleration but it looked as though you were very surprised by the Kia's (hence you repeated the run). Is the Sportage that much heavier than the Tucson? Or is the gearing different? I thought Kia was generally more sporty than the Hyundai counterpart but sounds like the Kia is actually detuned / softer relative to the Tucson?

I see here you showed the length of Tucson being 4.63 meters, in Europe is 4.5 meters and wheelbase few centimeters lower, so I guess this is the version also sold in USA. Probably in Europe Sportage will be shorter.

That’s a horrible 0-60 time! People who owned the old 240hp turbo are going to be disappointed, though the mpg is a solid improvement. Not having a heads-up display is ridiculous in my opinion. Those tail lamps and turn signals are some of the nicest I’ve ever seen.
I don't know what it is. I think it's the slow start. For some reason this 2022 Kia Sportage is a lot slower compared to all new Hyundai Tucson. Thanks Steve.

@@lamborghini0610 You’ll notice KIA isn’t actually adding much new in the new Sportage and Sorento’s. For instance, they stripped the heated rear seats and power adjustable thigh support cushions from the top Sorento trip and also removed the hood struts and replaced them with a cheap prop rod….and those are just a few things off the too of my head. This subtraction bs is moving it’s way downstream to all new KIA products.
That slow start is probably due to the dual clutch. A rolling 5-60 is probably much faster.

Kia Sorento is much larger car with heavier price tag. So, if you don't need such a large SUV, then i suggest you get Kia Sportage!
