@SwavyCurlyCourtney So I have a question as I’m just really getting good into my curly girl journey. I may know the answer to this but I’ll ask anyway. Can this clarifying shampoo be used every wash day? If not, what is a good shampoo to add in the mix with these products?
Out of all the wavy/curly hair channels, your hair seems to be the closest match to what my hair is like. Only, yours is much healthier & shinier. I'm working on making mine healthier. But, I'm on the road a lot for my job. It's hard to keep up a consistent routine. I thank you for the inspiration you give me. 😊 Been watching you for around three years. Keep these videos coming! Your hair looks fabulous!
I have to chime in again (2 months later). I LOVED the gel during transition but somewhere along the way it became too heavy for me (or I thought) BECAUSE of EXACTLY what you said - since my transitioning hair was extremely damaged I previously used a cream underneath and now that my damage is grown out I revisited it avoiding a leave in and HOLY SMOKES I have a newfound love for this gel! The ONLY downfall for me is that it does take just a little bit longer to dry compared to my normal gel (Curlsmith Aqua Gel). The extra 5 minutes diffusing paid off though and this product alone REALLY worked beautifully to define and ENHANCE my curls! The shine is INSANE! This is still my favorite product I have seen you use on your hair and now it’s a favorite of mine AGAIN! Even though it LOOKS like we gave very different hair the products you use that work for you somehow work very well for me too! You have very much become a major influence for me Courtney! Thank you so much for being our test subject and putting all the work in to make these videos! I am always super excited to see you pop up in my subscription list! ❤❤❤
I've been consedering adding the Curly Custard to my collection, but fighting myself with the amount of products I've been collecting. With that amazing result, I'm sold. Or better, I'm buying!
Courtney, 2 questions,1- do you think that the Kinking Curly shampoo should only be used as a clarifying shampoo and no an every wash day shampoo? 2- do you think that the kinky curly custard gave you such great results this time because you clarified? No matter what your hair does look amazing 😍!!
I love the Kinky curly come clean shampoo. I haven't used the custard in so long that I don't remember how I feel about it. When you were talking about the ingredients in the custard, it made me think of the Uncle Funky's daughter curly magic curl stimulator which contains many of the same ingredients. It would be interesting to see how that works on your hair
I definitely think this is the absolute BEST I've ever seen your hair! I'm going first thing tomorrow to get all these products you used this wash day. I hope and pray my hair turns out as good as yours did! Out of all the different people I've watched here on UA-cam your hair is the ONLY person's I've seen who's curl pattern looks like mine and I've watched a lot of people. I've always got the best advice from you too and that's why I'm only subscribed to your channel for my hair and nobody else. 😊❤
It seems like in terms of fundamentals, all the curl patterns are the same as straight hair scientifically. A good 7 billion of us are born with a natural curl pattern, for others it shows up out of nowhere. However, I really don't know how we got to the point where haircare was directed to straight hair considering, once again worth repeating, only .01% of people are born with naturally straight hair.
I read this stat not long ago when it was posted by a hair stylist and was so surprised! That said, I think the straight hair products are actually marketed at those of us with wavy hair who are overwhelmed by the frizz and fluff and just want to wear it straight.
@@creativequince I often find it easier to wear my hair straight too, but have always loved the look of curls! Unlike most who thought they just had bad straight hair like I also did, I experimented with a curling iron and other curling methods.
That custard is magic! I started using it about two months ago in the shower before dry plopping. The definition is insane! I didn't change the other parts of my routine at all.
Best wash day. I also have super fine, medium density hair. I cannot style my hair soaking wet. It comes out terrible. So damp styling is my go to, and with that, it's rare to not get a cast. Haven't used Kinky Curly products in a while but have always loved the leave-in and Custard. Need to try the shampoo now and use them all together. Thanks for the video.
The curling custard and knot today both have ingredients commonly used in pure herbal haircare, they contain a lot of mucilage which is where all that slip and definition comes from! Marshmallow root, slippery elm and Irish sea moss are all in a similar vein to flaxseed with all the hair-loving mucilage ❤
I went out and bought the Leave in and the Gel. I have been transitioning for the past 7 months, after wearing my hair straight, bleaching and color stripping the heck out of my hair for 13 years. I have bought every Gel, Mousse, Foam and spray out there. Ugh and I just couldn't find the right combo. I thought this line was more for extremely coily hair, and since there's no protein in them I stayed away. For reference i have high porosity, fine, damaged, wavy/curly hair. OK so I washed my hair with The Twist shampoo, twice. Put a little bit of the leave in and stc a few times. Then rinsed it out completely. I used my tangle teazer and put a tiny tiny amount in my hand and imulsified it with a bit of water. Praying hands then scrunched and diffused. I did not get a cast, I hardly ever do but OMG super voluminous curls and some ringlets! My hair is super Shiney and feels so soft, it also dried in half the time. I will be playing around to see if I can get a slight cast but Wow! Thank you so much! ❤❤❤
Wow these are the tightest ringlets I've seen on you! I've used this line before and the knot today was always too heavy for my fine hair. I'll have to try rinsing it out instead of leaving it in!
Kinky Curly Custard was the first styler I bought a few years ago, when I first discovered that my hair was wavy. I used the whole tub, and then started playing with all the other options out there. Now I’m thinking it’s time to give it another go!
I decided to try the three kinky curly products since I have similar hair to yours and OMG! I had the best wash day ever!! Even my dad noticed and commented lol. Thanks for the great suggestion. Love you and your channel!
How important is it to do it all with your hair upside down? My hair gets all tangled when I put it back in place, unless I immediately diffuse it upside down. Thanks for all your tips! I’ve been doing this about 6 months and have really liked your inexpensive recommendations.
Oh man, I have the exact same random strand of hair at the front that doesn’t get in a curl family! What’s up with that?? You definitely had great results with this brand, and I love your The Chosen shirt! 💜
Fantastic results! I haven't used the conditioner or custard in ages, but that shampoo is my favorite clarifier. I _might_ have to pop into Walgreens today! 😂 Thanks for sharing. 🙏🏻
Looks great! Could you plz show what you do after the wash? Thats the most important part. How you diffuse, for how long, do you partial air dry, etc? Thx
I discovered this at the beginning of my curly hair journey (definitely have not kept up with the method as religiously as some lol) and this is still my favorite! Closely followed by Curlsmith lol
I think these are the best results of yours that I've ever seen! I'd love to see you do the exact same thing, a second time, to see if it again garners the same result.
I love using the Knot Today and Curling Custard and I always get a cast. Also I know the Knot Today says for fine hair to wash it out, but for some odd reason on my baby fine hair, leaving it in works really well.
Hi Courtney. I loved your results. I am curious to try this routine for my hair, but I was wondering about heat protection for the difussing portion of the routine. What step would I incorporate heat protection in?
Amazing results!! My mind is blown that Kinky Curly is a drug store brand in the US! It it close to impossible to get anything more than the custard here and even that is so hard to come by it keeps selling out super quick.
FYI I discovered yesterday that Amazon Australia is selling KCCC now (Australian stock) at a lower price than the various Aussie online curly girl shops have to sell it for.
I use both Knot Today and the Kinky Curly Custard. I didn’t know that I am supposed to rinse out the Knot Today. Kinky Curly definitely is a good product but I have learned that my curls won’t stay unless I keep my hands off of them or I use hairspray when my hair is fully dry.
My hair looks great on day 1 But is it bad if I just brush my hair with the gel for day 2? It looks like nice beach waves But I heard it’s damaging for hair
These products work AWESOME for your hair!!! I never had much luck with the custard but now I am interested in trying it without anything underneath! On a very strong note I cannot express how much I LOVE this shampoo! I ALWAYS come back to it!
Im new to curly hair product routine. I've always had very wavy slightly curly hair thats great day one but then goes straighter each day after. I struggle with some hair products cause they do something to the texture of my hair. Makes my hair feel more rough, loses softness and makes my hair tangle more easily. My hair tends to tangle and matt in the back anyway from rubbing on my clothes, so the product can make it worse. So then I have to brush out my hair everyday to get knots out, which brushes out curls. What is in hair products that do this? I just used NYM Mousse and it was rough and horrible and hair really matted. What would you recommend? What am I doing wrong? What products do you recommend? Help!
The curling custard is vanilla??? I have used this for years and have never gotten vanilla from it! That stuff always casts for me. You just need to use the right amount.
I just received this set and haven't tried it yet. I'm so happy you've done this review! Having problems with stringy curls and have tried a number of combinations. Can't wait to try these products. I have medium porosity, thick, medium to course hair, and wavy to curly hair. Your hair looks amazing. I've watched so many of your videos and this is one of the best.
I am so excited! I tried these products today. I washed twice and styled with flip, glaze, and scrunch. It looks fabulous. I suspected my hair had been over moisturized. This seems to have solved my problem. I'm over the moon and thrilled. Thank you!❤
I literally did the same dance when i saw that this video was kinky curly again hehe! You’re adorable and i look forward to all of your videos! Thank you!
Wowzah 😀 you’re waves look SO lovely. This is how I use both Kinky Curly Custard and Ecoslay Orange Marmalade…almost on their own. 1. I use the Honest Leave-In detangler spray, it looks like water, any creams or milk sprays…just make my hair feel producty 😜 2. I prefer the Ecoslay for larger sizes and greater $ value, but both products work similarly for me. 3. I apply the jiggly to each section, they both give great slip for brush styling 4. I diffuse and get a hard cast…I think the moisture in these products is enough for my med-coarse, very low porosity hair. The results last longer than I my scalp would like…if only I could was my scalp without washing this foot and a half of hair 😂 How about Ecoslay 1 Brand Wash Day next?! 😃 Cheers and keep up the great work, curl friend 💛
I just received the conditioner and curl gel. I can't wait to try it tomorrow! My last wash, I used the shampoo and the followed up with a purple conditioning shampoo for my silver. We're on well water and our soil is mostly red clay, so it gets dull very fast. Didn't use anything else and diffused to 50% dry. This is the FIRST time since I started my curly journey 6 months ago (when I found out it had gone wavy/curly after growing out my very short pixie) that I have been able to go 3 days without any greasiness, even at my nape! I'm stunned. Usually, by day 2 it's gone greasy at my nape and by day 3, it's so bad I have to wear a baseball cap in public. But here I am, day 3, no grease, easily refreshed with a spritz of water, a little scrunch, and air drying. A little frizz because that's the nature of silver hair, and a little static because of the weather, but otherwise, it's totally public ready. I've lived in this house on this well for more than 20 years. I had NO idea how much chemical buildup from the well I had until I used this product. At least the shampoo is a game-changer! We'll see about the rest of the line tomorrow.
My go-to products for these amazing results on my 2b, 2c, fine, high-density, high-porosity hair. I can't find anything that works as well on my hair. By the way...my picture is my hair blown out.
So, after watching this video, I bought the clarifying shampoo and I can't believe my curls. I have curl families for the first time EVER. My hair is much shorter than yours, so it's really difficult for me to form curl families,. I only used the clarifying shampoo because I'm on a well with very hard water, and a rinse out conditioner from another brand, no gel, no styling product at all, and air dried ... and OMG! I have curl clumps in exactly the right size (I use a detangling, wide-tooth comb with two rows offset, likely by Goodie). I can't believe this shampoo made such a difference. Now, I'm going to have to get the conditioner and gel or whatever the last bit is. I may have found my perfect line thanks to you!
I just can't seem to get as much definition using this product trio, it was pretty good day one, but I seem to need a harder hold than the custard. And day two everything is completely stretched. On the plus side, these products leave my hair SOOOOO SOFT and smooth :)
I have a quick question, just wondering how to refresh after a clarifying/deep conditioning/no product day. I am finding that my hair responds well to mousse and diffusing. Thanks in advance, your curly channel is the best! 🤗
I've been using Kinky Curly products for awhile now, so it doesn't surprise me that this is your BEST one-product wash day! I find my hair looks even better on Day 2.
I love that this line worked for you! The Knot Today is my go-to for every wash, and the Come Clean is my go-to clarifier. Unfortunately, my hair HATES aloe and makes it flash dry, but I so WANT to love it :(
Wow your hair looks pretty defined and moisturized. I need to try that combo. Will you do a video on the new Garnier fructis filler preshampoo, shampoo, conditioner, serum, and cream gel? They have 3 different systems out one for damaged hair one for colored/bleached hair and one for curly hair.I was recommended the one for colored/bleached because my hair is highlighted with bleach and damaged. I like the smell of the products and they don't weigh my hair down. I will try this kinky curly brand after I finish the garner fructis system. I bought that hair products at Walgreens on sale $8.99 each bottle.
As an aside, that sometimes you can't find your measuring spoons, go with what your great grandmother likely did when cooking and learn to measure in the palm of your hand. I'm a lot older than you so, my grandmother equals your great grandmother. Just sayin' . At some point, your great grandmother had moved to using measuring devices. But you can go way back and learn. I learned to measure a teaspoon, table spoon, quarter and half cup in the palm of my hand from my great grandmother. I have also proved to most folks I know that the measurements are correct. So, quit relying on a measuring implement and learn to measure in your palm and you'll never be without a measuring thing again. Sometimes, the old ways are the most valuable. As long as you have a hand, you have an accurate measuring device.
2/22- I just bought these products today so I haven't used them yet. As a horticulturist some of the ingredients you listed are ones that I have been looking for in a products for my hair which is thin and fine. Here is the reasons : Horsetail extract contains silicon and sicilic acid Nettle (stinging nettle) - is high in amino acids, protien and bone building minerals Slippery Elm and Marshmallow contain mucilage These herbs are in the Knot today (slippery elm and marshmallow) and the Curling Custard (horsetail, nettle and marshmallow). So if I am accurate in my thoughts the conditioner and custard are adding protein, sicilic acid and silicon then sealing the hair cuticle with a coating. There could be some potential issues with buildup and the diuretic properties of some these herbs. I will try to comment about how this works on my hair which is also high porosity, dry and prone to frizz. Thank you for sharing these products and how they work for you.
Thanks for doing this video, Courtney. I had the Kinky Curly Curling Custard. Purchased the shampoo and conditioner. Having finer hair like you, I did the same and rinsed out the conditioner. Had wonderful results. I've never quite gotten as much wavy curls with the Curling Custard before.
I'm new to trying to style my hair more wavy/curly. could you tell me how long from beginning to end this takes? I usually wash my hair before going to work, but I wouldn't have time to let it dry to remove the cast before leaving. is this something you do on a day that you have no plans?
Luke you try using the brand “crack” ? It’s in a blue bottle off of Amazon, I have oily medium hair and my mom has dry thick hair and we both can use it happily, I jsut have to double wash with the shampoo but it works well
Your hair looks gorgeous. What happens with me is that I’ll have a gorgeous day like this and then the next time I use the same exact products I don’t get the same result. No idea why.
I love Kinky Curly Custard over Bounce Curl Rose Oil and Avocado Curl Cream for clumps and moisture. My hair is very fine and dry (color treated) so I need a leave in / cream with more ompth than Knot Today. When I tried Knot Today, I found it was just a watery detangler at best.
Their leave in and custard werw my go to whm I started my curly journey year's ago. I need to bring them back. I mever tried the cleanser but now I want to nased on your beautiful results. ❤️
I love Kinky Curly for my coarse hair. I use Come Clean often as it makes a big difference to keep it build up free. It’s been awhile since I’ve tried the Custard but the last time was when I was still using leave-in (as per your instructions 😂). I have read their website and I honestly think they should relabel the Knot Today as a multipurpose conditioner. Deep conditioning with heat also gives me brilliant results.
Love this so much. You didn’t mention it, but in addition to those glorious Swavy curl clumps, your hair is so shiny! I was just wishing for guidance on finding a good clarifying shampoo, and bam! Your video popped up in my feed. Thank you!😊
I think this is the best wash day... Can you show us your current wash day routine from start to finish? - and how long does it take you, start to finish?
Oooooo these may be worth a try. Also I love the Chosen merch. 😉 I couldn't make it to see any of the in theater showings and am just dying for season 4 to hit streaming!
I have thick very high porosity hair. I’ve tried SO many products, and this routine worked on my very course sometimes kinky hair. I have curls and no frizz. No poof! I found my new product home.
I’ve been afraid to try this because of the humidity where I live but now I want to try these all!! 😊beautiful!!! Maybe now you can try more moisture only products 😊
This is absolutely the best wash day you have ever gotten!!! WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!!!!! Gorgeous curls!!!!!
Wow, thank you so much!
I absolutely agree. The best wash day ever. Keep this❤❤❤
@SwavyCurlyCourtney So I have a question as I’m just really getting good into my curly girl journey. I may know the answer to this but I’ll ask anyway. Can this clarifying shampoo be used every wash day? If not, what is a good shampoo to add in the mix with these products?

Possibly!

Thank you!❤
Time for me to go shopping!!! Your hair is amazing!
Thank you!
This is my routine but I’d NEVER call it cheap. 😂 It’s pretty expensive.
Fair enough!
Oooh! I want to try this.
definitely makes me want to try. Gorgeous
Awe, thank you!
Wow! So, would it be for regular washing or just for clarifying and deep conditioning?
It does lean more towards clarifying!
I honestly did not expect this result!! ❤
I literally did the same dance when i saw that this video was kinky curly again hehe! You’re adorable and i look forward to all of your videos! Thank you!
LOL Thank you! Glad you were excited for this one! I was too!
Wish i knew if the custard would work on my super thin, super curly, dry 60+ hair. Have tried EVERY product & nothing really seems to work😕
Wowzah 😀 you’re waves look SO lovely. This is how I use both Kinky Curly Custard and Ecoslay Orange Marmalade…almost on their own.
1. I use the Honest Leave-In detangler spray, it looks like water, any creams or milk sprays…just make my hair feel producty 😜
2. I prefer the Ecoslay for larger sizes and greater $ value, but both products work similarly for me.
3. I apply the jiggly to each section, they both give great slip for brush styling
4. I diffuse and get a hard cast…I think the moisture in these products is enough for my med-coarse, very low porosity hair.
The results last longer than I my scalp would like…if only I could was my scalp without washing this foot and a half of hair 😂
How about Ecoslay 1 Brand Wash Day next?! 😃 Cheers and keep up the great work, curl friend 💛
This is by far the best hairday yet!!!! ❤❤
Awe, thank you so much!
Hmmm. Holds water... Holding water ... Could the extracts be "holding water?" As in, creating a protein/moisture balance in and of themselves?
Here is the reasons :
Horsetail extract contains silicon and sicilic acid
Nettle (stinging nettle) - is high in amino acids, protien and bone building minerals
Slippery Elm and Marshmallow contain mucilage
These herbs are in the Knot today (slippery elm and marshmallow) and the Curling Custard (horsetail, nettle and marshmallow).
You mentioned willow bark. That's where salicylic acid comes from which is great for scalp! Beautiful results! 👏👏
Thanks for doing this video, Courtney. I had the Kinky Curly Curling Custard. Purchased the shampoo and conditioner. Having finer hair like you, I did the same and rinsed out the conditioner. Had wonderful results. I've never quite gotten as much wavy curls with the Curling Custard before.
i love the kinky curly gel but haven’t been loving my waves lately so i can’t wait to try this trio
Hope this helps! I think it might!
I'm new to trying to style my hair more wavy/curly. could you tell me how long from beginning to end this takes? I usually wash my hair before going to work, but I wouldn't have time to let it dry to remove the cast before leaving. is this something you do on a day that you have no plans?
It’s AMAZING Wow!!! WOW! WOW!!!! ❤
Luke you try using the brand “crack” ? It’s in a blue bottle off of Amazon, I have oily medium hair and my mom has dry thick hair and we both can use it happily, I jsut have to double wash with the shampoo but it works well
Innersense or kinky custard?
Awesome!!! Do you think the custard might color white, fine hair?!
I used to use Kinky Curly products and I'm excited to try them again! Would this be okay to use on highlighted curly hair?
Your hair looks gorgeous. What happens with me is that I’ll have a gorgeous day like this and then the next time I use the same exact products I don’t get the same result. No idea why.
I love Kinky Curly Custard over Bounce Curl Rose Oil and Avocado Curl Cream for clumps and moisture. My hair is very fine and dry (color treated) so I need a
leave in / cream with more ompth than Knot Today. When I tried Knot Today, I found it was just a watery detangler at best.
Their leave in and custard werw my go to whm I started my curly journey year's ago. I need to bring them back. I mever tried the cleanser but now I want to nased on your beautiful results. ❤️
I love when people find out about my hair products because more stores will carry it. Lol.
Looks great! Do you think that clarifying shampoo can be used every wash or would you alternate it?
I love Kinky Curly for my coarse hair. I use Come Clean often as it makes a big difference to keep it build up free. It’s been awhile since I’ve tried the Custard but the last time was when I was still using leave-in (as per your instructions 😂). I have read their website and I honestly think they should relabel the Knot Today as a multipurpose conditioner. Deep conditioning with heat also gives me brilliant results.
Beautiful ❤
Absolutely love it.
Love this so much. You didn’t mention it, but in addition to those glorious Swavy curl clumps, your hair is so shiny! I was just wishing for guidance on finding a good clarifying shampoo, and bam! Your video popped up in my feed. Thank you!😊
I use the Kinky Curly custard so I’m glad you’re doing the shampoo. Beautiful hair 🤩
Great instructions, i am still learning! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
I think this is the best wash day...
Can you show us your current wash day routine from start to finish? - and how long does it take you, start to finish?
Do you have videos for non wash days? I have been struggling in the in-between 😅
Oooooo these may be worth a try.
Also I love the Chosen merch. 😉 I couldn't make it to see any of the in theater showings and am just dying for season 4 to hit streaming!
How often will you be using the come clean shampoo since it’s a clarifier?
I have thick very high porosity hair. I’ve tried SO many products, and this routine worked on my very course sometimes kinky hair. I have curls and no frizz. No poof! I found my new product home.
This line has been my holy grail for years! Love it!! Your hair came out amazing too!😊
Wow, that sure is lovely. Perhaps it beats Briagio. Now I have to find some place that sells it to try it. Thanks Courtney. 😀
I’ve been afraid to try this because of the humidity where I live but now I want to try these all!! 😊beautiful!!! Maybe now you can try more moisture only products 😊
