    Thank you for this pattern! My teenage daughter is in the early stages of fighting cancer and is supposed to lose her hair any day now from chemotherapy. We have many hours in the hospital and this would be a good project to work on. Thank you, and remember that life is precious!

    Your videos are so easy to follow. I just wasted 2 hours of my life trying to follow another video for a hat similar to this one. I finally ripped out all of the stitches in frustration and currently laying in a massive pile of yarn in defeat. Then like some shining light here you are with this tutorial and I have confidence you're going to get me through it because I've used your videos before. Even when I think all hope is lost and you've gone bonkers the stitches work and boom. We has a hat! Thanks xoxo

    Thank you! I just made this hat today for my mom. It turned out great, and I’m sure she will love it! I used vannas choice (it’s one of my faves) and made my own Pom Pom by hand with extra yarn. I went in on the seam and tightened it up with some extra yarn, you can barely see it now. This tutorial helped me so much, thank you!

    I've never liked making hats until I discovered slip stitch brims. I incorporate it everywhere I can 😂 It takes time, yeah, but definitely worth it for some projects ❤ And I love your tutorials. I don't like strictly following patterns or listening to tutorials, and it helps to be able to read over the patterns you share and then listen along and refer back to your videos as needed.

    so i made this 5 months ago (according to my last posts :D ) Anyway, I gave it to my son. He has been wearing it a lot, since it's gotten cold and windy (western NY along Lake Ontario). Anyway, he came home the other day and said he is getting lots of comments and complements from strangers and people he's interacting with, regarding this hat! Thanks Mikey! When i get caught up on all my other projects, I'm going to make a bunch of these!

    one of the easiest hat tutorial that i followed. made it within my first try and on top of that, I've got the pattern right in my head so i won't be needing to look at the pattern on my next one. my daughter lost her hat and i hate wasting money just to buy her one that's barely decent....with my stash of yarn, i might as well make one. It took me two days but could had done it in one day if not for a newborn wanting to be held at all times.

    omg I have knitted much of my life, i just started crocheting a few weeks ago, tho I love knitting the most of the two, the 5 star pattern for this hat is not only fun but looks so classy, im gonna have a blast making many hats with this pattern. I might even try to crochet this same pattern into a handbag or maybe even a blanket! This has got to be the most fun pattern I have tried out as a beginner in crochet.

    Thank you for this tutorial! I had to modify it though... I have been crocheting since I was 8 and I am 41 now and I cannot get the band to look good. I gave up on the slip stitch and did single crochet instead. It still looks cute and has a bit of stretch to it, just not as much as the slip stitch band.

In its entirety, the hat turned out beautiful! I accidentally crocheted it with the good side facing in, lol! Once i turned it right side out i was able to see the finished product. this was brilliant! i ended up with massive holes at the edge, maybe i was missing something. but i was making it in stripes so had plenty of loose ends to sew them shut! the edge is seamless now and it looks so pretty.. i also didn't have yarn as thick as the one in the video so i used 2 thinner strands and still followed the hook sizes in the video and it ended up pretty much the same size. thanks for the tutorial!

    Omg, okay so I watched this about half way and got very daunted. But you are correct, this was so much fun. I've never attempted the star stitch, and it's actually easy, yet fun. A great change from the same old c,dc, tc. Thankyou for this. Although I wasn't fond of the brim so I did a single crochet rib. But loved the rest. Thankyou.

    Made this hat, it's amazing, I did however and I'm sorry Mikey (I know you're the crochet guru here!) did a few things a bit on improvisation, at the end of each row all I did was make a half star cluster (4 loops not 6) just to fill in the gap I was having between slipstitching rows, obviously keeping the in mind when doing the single crochet rounds! Hat still turned out lovely ^^ Thank you so much for showing us how to do this lovely hat and the brim is just, AMAZING, the elasticity of it, it's just phenomenal!

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  7 років тому +15

      Glad you did it your way... Just because I teach doesn't mean the crocheter shouldn't or cannot improvise to suit their own needs. That's part of the creative journey. Good for you to solving an issue that was bothering you. :D

      can i use the hdc rib

    • @larkbird9247
      @larkbird9247 7 років тому

      You can use any stitch for the rib/brim. Just be conscious of how wide it is and make it to the correct length. For this type of brim, I make it around 19-20 in long (it's very stretchy) and between 2-3 inches wide. I don't like to do the slip stitch because it's very hard for me to see. I use whichever stitch I feel like using.
      I did this brim with worsted weight yarn, 6.0 hook with the single crochet stitch. I chained 11 to start (ending up with 10 stitches per rib) That gave me a 3-in wide brim. You can experiment with hook size and crochet stitch and just do a couple of ribs and you'll be able to tell how many stitches you need to make the brim as wide as you want. HDC will be absolutely fine. Just do a few ribs and see how wide it is. It doesn't matter how many stitches you start the brim with - just do as many or as few to get the width of the brim you want.
      No matter what stitch you use, you'll end up having to count and figure out where to put the number of stitches around to start the body of a project after you've joined the brim. They'll always tell you. In this case Mikey said 71 single crochet stitches around @ time 7:30 in the video.

My question is if I reduce the size of the band then what should the sc stitches be reduced by. If 71 for 18 inches then how should it be reduced for smaller?

    Great tutorial! Is there a way to make the ribbing look seamless at the join, so it doesn't have that bump? Thank you in advance!

    Thank you for this tutorial. How high is the hat when it's done? My yarn is a little smaller and i will probably need to add some more rows to make it work.

    I finished this hat and I feel like this is definitely a bit of a smaller hat. Not a unisex hat at all.(lol I am using my husbands youtube account but the hat was for him) He said it needed be higher so i'm going to try and do fourteen single crochets for the brim and increase the height to 7 inches and the width by 81 instead of the 71 stitches. For me it was a nice somewhat snug hat it could have been my tension on the star stitches also.

    Do we use 4 medium weight? That’s normally all I use. But I don’t think I saw what yarn weight to use in the video or written pattern! Thank you
