They say madness is doing the same things over and over and expecting different results. Well, having tried all kinds of anti microbials, the low fodmap diet, DIY semi-elemental formulas, antibiotics, various prokinetics - you name it - with only fleeting sucess - I realised maybe I have leaky gut rather than Sibo/Sifo (I had tested positive for SIBO in the past, but not always, yet the bloating and inflammation continued even on a negative result). This has been going on since experiencing food poisoning 4 years ago :(( Initially I had been put off trying probiotics (by one leading expert's warnings about them), but I realised I needed a new approach. L Glutamine definitely helped, digestive emzymes and betaine+pepsin in my case too, but the biggest surprise has been the probiotics. I'm so glad people like you are here Dr Ruscio, thank you. My wife has had similar experience to you. Then she realized foods accidentally containing sesame were a big part of problem. She had pain all the time and was told it's just mild IBS, no solution. She took one drop oil oregano for 11 days and all symptoms stopped. Then she takes one of Dr. R supplement and much of the back and muscle inflammation is changing. Hard to tell if it is the final answer as they already have injuries from accidents but at least the weight starting to be healthier as they had been underweight. Somethings take a while to figure out and adjust to. It is said that many people shouldn't eat sesame!

WOW. Absolutely amazing information. Thank you! (My sad story started 7/22.) After C Diff infection, taking probiotics was very scary~ the gut is SO sensitive to everything. Left with SIBO/leaky gut☹️ I stopped using everything for a couple months....used low Fodmap diet....after several months, slloowwly introduced probiotics with IgG.... slowly added prokinetics. It's almost the 3 months mark for me with this treatment.{SIBO protocol}. I ate a little salad a couple days ago, a little salsa yesterday😊 Nothing! 😁. Things are damn near back to normal in the bathroom!.... Don't give up! Try different things for 3 months.

Thank you for your very interesting and helpful presentation. I am in England a 68 year old male and here very few GP doctors have even heard about leaky gut or SIBO, etc, which I have been privately tested for and diagnosed with, let alone know how to treat it. Functional medicine is way behind US levels and currently our beloved NHS government run medical service has waiting times of over a year for routine operations and 3 months for tests. I will be introducing the type of Probiotics you described in the study into my own assessment and treatment protocol of low Fodmap no sugar and carb diet. Thanks again Dr.Michael. Mark Jeffries.Chichester.England.
Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad that I could give you some useful info. Best of luck with your protocol. Please let me know how it goes in a couple months!

Thank you Dr. Ruscio! I found this info to be very valuable for my family and my health coaching clients. Thanks for your perspective and honesty. Less really can be more.
Thank you Doctor, i agree with everything you say except the stool test part. I developed very aggressive H-Pylori in the gut in 2020 which leaked into my blood stream due to leaky gut and started attacking my heart- i almost died but thank God my GP (family Dr in the USA) had suspicions and she ordered a stool test. The test showed my infection, i was put on a couple of powerful antibiotics and my heart palpitations stopped instantly! I had leaky gut due to a bad diet and chronic stress at work. Stool tests certainly work as part of a diagnostic process to work out what is causing leaky gut in the first instance.
I agree that testing can be helpful for more severe infections and GI conditions. Especially when your practitioner recommends it. I more so mean for food sensitivities and GI mapping. Thank you for pointing that out. :)
@@presidentiallsuite Yes, its a very common bad bacteria that most people don't know about. All we hear about is e-coli/salmonella etc... H-Pylori can be just as virulent. I think i got it from infected food.
Yes I understood and agree with your caution of over testing especially stool testing. But like antibiotics and steroids that are on occasion the right treatment until able to build back and restore. 😚
I definitely think I tore up my gut lining in more ways than one western diet, stress, and some foods I had no business consuming for a prolonged amount of time like hard beef jerky that was a little too red... And dry smoked cheese...and pork from a farm in Mexico I ain't been the same since ...and then I tried to fix constipation with black cherry juice and pineapple juice for several months..when I have tough time with acidic foods..what a mess... healing vibes to everyone I finally found a functional Dr hopefully I can straighten things out
Can two alcohol binge sessions cause leaky gut? All symptoms started after two alcohol binge sessions on a mostly empty stomach. I had intense burning in my stomach after drinking and reflux. I also started to develop rashes on my arms, sweating and sinus congestion.

Caprylic acid with meals. Nothing else works better for ibs or gut pain healing and restore bowl movements. Keeps killing off inflammation causing factors:fungi bacteria in gut.
Fibromyalgia, total body, has plagued my life for 43 years. It came on suddenly after crop duster spray planes covered the field across the street. It killed my lawn and Iris flowers. I have been an invalid off and on during this time in terrible pain. Lately I have been looking at leaky gut to see if this could be part of the problem.
Excellent and informative video. However, as someone who has had leaky gut in the past, I began to experience immune reactivity to probiotics that I used consistently over time. I suspect that these helpful bacteria were getting into the bloodstream and triggering inflammation. It would seem that doing a reparative protocol first would be a better approach. I’m fact, this is what I ended up doing and it worked. Just my two cents. What say you?
Maybe... I don't think its quite that consolidated for all people. For some, yes, I would agree brain-gut is implicated. For others I see the gut-brain being the primary area to focus on.
Thank you. I don’t need tests I know I have gut issues. I have had heartburn and been onprevicid for 15 yrs or so, had a colonoscopy done and my doctor said I had a fantastic colon that of a 18 year old when I was 50, however my gut was a absolute disaster and put me on carafate 1 gram 4 times a day. 10 years later I have chronic diarrhea, stomach pain, ect, random feverish feelings, food allergies, another colonoscopy by a different dr and again said my colon looked good and clean did lots of biopsies that I am waiting on but said nothing about my gut. I believe my colon issues are stemming from a leaky gut. I am tired of having to be my own dr though.

What helped my leaky gut was eating clean. I have ezcema and when i eat clean i get no flare ups. Avoid things like sugar, dairy, acidic foods( apple cider vinegar, orange, etc.). The worst of all is blende sauces such as bbq, honey mustard, ranch, etc. Anytime i would eat these things i would get a flare up. Eating foods that are dry has helped me a lot. Also salads are always a good way to go when it comes to healing.

the study came to the conclusion that it depends on the duration if stool zonulin measurably decreases or not. you should take probiotics longer than 6 weeks then you might see a decrease in stool zonulin as well.

I am confused by your probiotic dosing recommendation. In your video you recommend 1-10 billion CFU for 2-3 months yet the lacto/bifido probiotics that you linked (and showed on screen) range from 25 billion to 100 billion. So are you recommending to take those ones that you linked or not? Just WOW! I just subscribed to your channel. Your video is one of very few I have seen that really resonates with me. Your research is very informative and I will be bringing this and the articles you mentioned to the attention of my Pulmonologist. I was diagnosed with “Asthma” last year at the age of 41. I have gut issues, brain fog, severe fatigue. This lung inflammation is the WORST tho! I haven’t been able to sleep in my bedroom with my husband for almost a year because of my constant, chronic coughing! The in-hailer that was prescribed doesn’t work. I’m afraid I have something called Esosinophilic Asthma or pneumonia, which would require a shot versus an in-hailer. I don’t know if you are familiar with the GAPS diet, but I tried that twice and lost so much weight that I didn’t need to lose that I looked emaciated! Never again! However, the meat stock that is emphasized the most in this diet is supposed to help heal and seal the gut lining. I am thinking of maybe at least incorporating that back into my diet. I eat all organic, no processed foods. I cannot eat anything high in histamine, no dairy, no grains, no caffeine. I’m pretty much just eating meat, veg and some fruit. I have so many food allergies/sensitivities. I have been taking a probiotic for almost 2 years with no noticeable results! Must be the wrong Probiotic, because I noticed the other day that it has milk and soy in it!!! 🤦🏻♀️ Can you tell me why you only take the Probiotics you mentioned for 2-3 months? What should I do after that time? Thank you for sharing this VERY valuable information! ❤
The idea is that the probiotics taken over a 2 to 3 month period will heal the gut. Hopefully, after that, you've established a healthy population of the bacteria and further supplementation would not be necessary. Try taking NAC for your lung inflammation.

so glad I found your video. Fantastic information. I've been dealing with "dysbiosis" or whatever mystery for 4 years. Just this past year I've seen great improvement with the "Seed" probiotic and L.Reuteri homemade yogurt after a full month dose of Matula tea to kill off my H. Pylori.
Histamine release resulted in a prickly sensation all over head to toes and resultantly hives outbreaks.... don't do alcohol or drugs but it was a long standing gut problem.... Dr's only prescribed antibiotics and tummy gel stuff...
This is great info finally! Can't wait to give probiotics a try. One thing though, what type do i take when having histamine intolerance since some strains are known to produce more histamine in the body?
Great question. And I'll have a video out soon that touches on this in more detail, but essentially probiotics (even ones with histamine) will have an overall histamine lowering effect. However, if you really want to avoid anything with histamine you might want to avoid these strains: Lactobacillus bulgaricus Lactobacillus casei S. thermophilus Lactobacillus delbrueckii Fortunately, there's a lot of other strains available so it shouldn't be too limiting. I even have one in the shop you can check out: store.drruscio.com/products/sacchromyces-boulardii-probiotic Hope that helps!

@@SeeWonderHaveLive That is encouraging, thank you for sharing. Sometimes small changes can make a big difference, but it's definitely hard to figure out, like you say. I hope your wife continues to improve.
I used to think leaky gut was silly. I was one of those that didn’t have any gut symptoms which made me even more of a skeptic, but was very unwell. Thankfully I came around and have had a lot of healing.
Leaky gut was a diagnosis in the UK 20+ years ago…
I do not have and never had any symptoms of leaky gut but 12 years ago, I was diagnosed with coeliac disease. So stopped having gluten.
@@mysteriousoklahoma777 Why is it no longer a diagnosis?
@@Jim-K-Baker ...it still is but it's more of a new thing here in the states, many doctors still do acknowledge it.
I had leaky gut and I did use bone borth, probiotics, MSM and slippery elm. It took me about 9 months or so..
That's great that you found a protocol that helped!
Any specific diet?
@@saffronsl I don't know what their diet was, but any anti-inflammatory diet is a great place to start. Something like paleo or low FODMAP (though low FODMAP is more restrictive, so I usually suggest trying paleo first and then moving on if that doesn't work).
Any HIGH quality one! Make sure bottle states live.....
I found bone broth made me feel sick. So stopped drinking it. L-Glutamine gave me anxiety.
I am glad I came across your video dr .I just try to introduce probiotic again these past few days .And I got the right amount of lacto&bifido bacteria on my supplement .I will be continue to consume for 2-3 months as your protocol suggest .Hope it can improve my leaky gut & ibs .
Thank you. This is invaluable. I have had two masive bleeds due to diverticulitis and have spent this year trying to heal my gut. I will add this protocol.
Thank you. I quit alcohol soon as I watched this. Makes sense it would wash away the mucus layer I spent good money building by eating super healthily.
That’s amazing! 🙌🏻 We’re so happy to hear that. We’d love to hear more about your story if you want to share it with us. Send us an email at Marketing@DrRuscio.com. We sure would love to hear from you!

Thanks again Dr.Michael.

tulsi soursop and wormwood tea
Yes, please do a video on Candida!

How about fasting?
Very interesting story...
This may be more cases then people 🤔 think....SMH
@@presidentiallsuite Yes, its a very common bad bacteria that most people don't know about. All we hear about is e-coli/salmonella etc... H-Pylori can be just as virulent. I think i got it from infected food.
Yes I understood and agree with your caution of over testing especially stool testing. But like antibiotics and steroids that are on occasion the right treatment until able to build back and restore. 😚
By any chance u recall the name of infection???
I definitely think I tore up my gut lining in more ways than one western diet, stress, and some foods I had no business consuming for a prolonged amount of time like hard beef jerky that was a little too red... And dry smoked cheese...and pork from a farm in Mexico I ain't been the same since ...and then I tried to fix constipation with black cherry juice and pineapple juice for several months..when I have tough time with acidic foods..what a mess... healing vibes to everyone I finally found a functional Dr hopefully I can straighten things out
I don't think Mexico is safe lol. It's like food from Satan there. I won't even use peppers.
Can two alcohol binge sessions cause leaky gut?
All symptoms started after two alcohol binge sessions on a mostly empty stomach. I had intense burning in my stomach after drinking and reflux. I also started to develop rashes on my arms, sweating and sinus congestion.
Try electrolytes too
This was the best explanation of leaky gut that I have found so far. Thank you so much. It is much better than " stop all gluten immediately ."😊 Thank you again.
I'm so glad it was helpful to you. Thanks for your comment!

Please make video about mcas with all stuff like high salicylate lectrine in urin and how to heal with this case the leaky gut?
Excellent and informative video. However, as someone who has had leaky gut in the past, I began to experience immune reactivity to probiotics that I used consistently over time. I suspect that these helpful bacteria were getting into the bloodstream and triggering inflammation. It would seem that doing a reparative protocol first would be a better approach. I’m fact, this is what I ended up doing and it worked. Just my two cents. What say you?
What was your reparative protocol?

What helped my leaky gut was eating clean. I have ezcema and when i eat clean i get no flare ups. Avoid things like sugar, dairy, acidic foods( apple cider vinegar, orange, etc.). The worst of all is blende sauces such as bbq, honey mustard, ranch, etc. Anytime i would eat these things i would get a flare up. Eating foods that are dry has helped me a lot. Also salads are always a good way to go when it comes to healing.

Thx Doctor for all these practical and valuable informations.
I've always taken probiotics, but recently had some troubling gut issues. Doctors only want to run $$$ tests to no avail. I did my research and added a 6oz glass of fresh Barley water and a tablespoon of goat colostrum; started feeling much better in JUST 3 weeks,w/o drugs.

I have an appointment with my ND today. Hope she can help .. I seem to have most of the symptoms. Thanks again. I am taking some probiotics/prebiotics
This is gold!! Thanks Dr. Ruscio!!
the study came to the conclusion that it depends on the duration if stool zonulin measurably decreases or not. you should take probiotics longer than 6 weeks then you might see a decrease in stool zonulin as well.
Doctor, if I introduce probiotics/kefir/greek yoghurt into my already leaky gut the histamines released gives me itches throughout my body. Would it not be better if I healed my leaky gut with butyric acid (large intestine), glutamine (small intestine) & stop eating gluten 1st b4 introducing those beneficial bacteria 2 my gut. Else it's just going 2 enter my bloodstream & cause histamine overload !!! Itching everywhere !!! Please confirm that my explanation is correct doctor... cos this is just my assumption... need clarity !

I have also noticed that one of the probiotics you listed contains Magnesium Stearate which is supposedly toxic and not good for the gut. Can you please confirm or deny.

Can you tell me why you only take the Probiotics you mentioned for 2-3 months? What should I do after that time? Thank you for sharing this VERY valuable information! ❤
The idea is that the probiotics taken over a 2 to 3 month period will heal the gut. Hopefully, after that, you've established a healthy population of the bacteria and further supplementation would not be necessary. Try taking NAC for your lung inflammation.

However, if you really want to avoid anything with histamine you might want to avoid these strains: Lactobacillus bulgaricus
Lactobacillus casei
S. thermophilus
Lactobacillus delbrueckii
Fortunately, there's a lot of other strains available so it shouldn't be too limiting. I even have one in the shop you can check out: store.drruscio.com/products/sacchromyces-boulardii-probiotic Hope that helps!
