If the Siege of Vienna feels familiar for you without really knowing why, it's probably because Tolkien based a large part of the Battle of Helm's Deep on the Siege of Vienna. The Rohirrim are essentially the Winged Hussars of Middle Earth.
I was about to comment tha same. I wasn't sure what LOTR battle was, if the siege of Minas Tirith or Helm's Deep. But I knew the Rohirrim were the Winged Hussars
Another absolutely amazing Sabaton song about Polish hero Witold Pilecki: "Inmate 4859". He voluntarily infiltrated Auschwitz.. TWICE!!! In the end, was killed by his own people. :(
@@VIKINGKING95 Most definitely!! How it has not been made already, is a mystery. But I'd prefer Poland to make it, in English or subtitled, than Hollywood 🤮 Same with the story of Wojtek the fighting bear.
You will be happy to know that after execution by communists, his remains were buried somewhere with other bodies especially not to make him a martyr. Right now there is a dedicated team of archaeologists doing exhumations to find and discern thru DNA his remains, so he can have a hero's burial.
the Battle of Vienna was in September. For Poles, the date of this battle is treated as the day when we saved Europe. We call it the Viennese Relief. big greetings from Poland. I will add that Poles are a very proud nation and if someone tries to lie about Polish history (Polish death camps) we are ready to fight xD
There are no Polish death camps. Never were. Just because Nazis built them on Polish land which they took by force, that does NOT mean they were "Polish concentration camps". Whoever says that is either hating, uninformed, or plain stupid. Poland helped sooo many Jewish ppl during the holocaust, hiding them everywhere they could. Now they're asking for wut? Reparations? Excuse me?!??!! Nothing against anyone, only against things that don't make sense & aren't true. Cześć from a Bosnian in California, with many awesome Polish friends & neighbors. 🤘😎🤘 (someday, I'm visiting 🇵🇱 if it's the last thing I ever do!!)
@@JJolZi0mekpl Just the truth, which must be known.. especially in today's age of "fake news". Love Poland! I'm a Slav too (Bośnia), and have Polish friends & neighbors who have been "through hell and back" during the late 70s/early 80s communist regime. Their stories equal mine from an actual war (one part of which is explained in Sabaton song "We Burn") .. yet it was all done in supposed "peace time" there! I'm trying to learn a little Polish but having memory issues. Helps that a lot of words are similar between our 2 languages. Started saying "Co?" in everyday life, heh.. I get some funny looks from Americans, but oh well 🤷 at least I didn't adopt the word "kurwa" 😂 Watching "Kapitan Bomba" livestreams, but not understanding much, unfortunately. The writing is superb, but very hard for a non-Pole to understand. So I just sing "bejbi aj lav ju veri macz..." 😂 and "myk myk myk disco polo". But my elderly Polish neighbors LOVE disco polo, so not in front of them. 😇 During the live Demons & Wizards performance at Wacken 2019, I randomly went into the live chat here on YT to ask if anyone had a screen capture of that gig. Only 1 person of thousands answered & helped: a Pole! He's been my best friend ever since. 😊 I'm disabled, living in chronic pain.. he helps me get through the hard times by sending more metal, Polish movies & music, telling me about Polish history (my high school education was interrupted by war, and in the U.S. colleges they don't teach you that, unless you're studying history). He also creates dashcam videos of his city in Poland, and it's so so beautiful & peaceful. I watch other Polish videos too, like the scenery in the Bieszczady mountains.. where lots of cool animals can be spotted (most recently a weasel.. łasica.. which changes it's coat in winter to white, so it looks kinda like a polar bear, lol).. and so much more. Then these Polish neighbors cook best food ever, and ALWAYS share. Not just with my family, but with anyone who wishes, including another Polish old lady who lives here alone & just had hip surgery (it's a building for elderly & disabled). Since this Polish couple moved into the building last year, they filled the whole place with warmth & kindness.. as opposed to previous 14yrs during which "Karen" behavior ruled, uncaring & unhelpful. And the food itself... OMG!!! It cannot be explained, everyone should just try it. Very similar to Bośnian foods, but sometimes with just enough of a twist that makes even my US friends say "This must be what Gods on mount Olympus ate". I've become mielone, gołąbki, pierógi addict, as did my Californian friend. He exclaims even at salads they make, like pickled peppers. And the real smoked sausage, which they buy for us at a Polish store in San Francisco. Today, I'm checking out Karpatka cake.. yumm. Looks similar to a cake we make called "krempita". Sorry for such a long post, but as you can tell I'm REALLY passionate about all things Poland. Sending you hugss from here. 🤗 🤍❤️
@@_coolman_8941 Allgaeuer Zeitung last year used the phrase "Polish death camps". Mittelbayerische.de in 2017. You have right "in Germany no one says that" 🤣
The “they’re outnumbered 15 to 1” line is referring to the Ottoman forces vs Viennas defenders. I don’t have the exact numbers in front of me, but it was about 10,000 defenders that were besieged for 2 months by a (approximately) 150,000 men army. It’s Vienna’s defenders that are making their last stand.
The meme-iest song in their catalog and I love it. I would really love to see them do a full on medieval inspired album. Lots of great wars and heroes in the dark ages. Either that or a Warhammer 40K album. Even though it's fantasy it could be pretty epic. Also the "Floor Jansen husband" bit is really the equivalent of "Did you know Viggo Mortensen broke his foot in this scene" in the Lord of the Rings community hahaha
Bit of fun fact, Swedish national anthem is one of the few where the name of the country isn't mentioned, but Sweden is mentioned in the Polish national anthem!
I am from Szwederowo, it’s area in Bydgoszcz. In polish Sweden is Szwecja. So my area was called like Swedish place, common story says that Swedish army was marching on this fields.
The Polish should never be underestimated, it's a huge mistake to do that. During the period of WWII that is called "The Battle Of Britain" one of the first - If not the first - German plane shot down was done by a Polish pilot. As it is shown in the film "The Battle Of Britain" there was a squadron of Polish pilots in England, and at one time when they were up training formation flying and things like that, one of the pilots spotted a German plane heading for his designated target. The Polish pilot called it out - in Polish - to the other pilots and they pealed off one by one to engage the German planes. If you haven't seen the film - Do it! During the summer of 2018 Europe was ravaged by big forest fires everywhere. My homecountry Sweden also had big fires that quickly went out of control. Who did Sweden turn to for help? Poland of course, 139 firemen, 44 fire engines and 11 support vehicles travelled the 550 miles from Trelleborg in the far South up to Sveg halfway up the country. They moved so fast that the Emergency Coordination Authority lost track of them (sounds a bit familiar, doesn't it?). You could follow the Polish firemen going up the country in videoclips on facebook and in reports in newspapers, but when the Authority was asked about the Polish's whereabouts they said "No, we don't know anything about that. We know that they have arrived in Trelleborg but we have no reports saying they have arrived at their destination in Sveg". Still no Lost Batallion...? It must show up somewhere, at some time... Cheers / B.
Thank you Mr. B for this info, I had no idea. And your first sentence is right on!! Never underestimate the people who lost their country for hundreds of years yet never stopped fighting for their freedom until they got it back! My Polish neighbor was jailed (by his own ppl) for peacefully protesting against the communist regime in early 80s. He was a copper miner. One way they'd protest was to have long hair, because the regime didn't allow it. Every last miner did it. Repercussions were fierce.. jail & finally emigration (before being outright killed like so many of his friends, and that wasn't even in wartime).
Yeah, but the whole Polish pilots in the batttle of britain thing has become incredibly hard to untangle from the myth that's grown up around them. Dowding was almost certainly correct when he said that the Polish squardons (more than one) where vital to winning the battle of Britain, because Britain was short of trained fighter pilots by august 1940 (when the Polish squardrons where deployed, after nearly 2 months of battle [held back before hand because of worries about what would happen letting non-english speaking pilots into the sky with English speaking air traffic control, not an unreasonable fear, and far from the racist accusation that have often been levelled since]). On the other hand the Polish (and wider international aid) effort to the Battle of Britain was only about 1/10th of the fighter squadrons deployed during the battle, so when the pendulum swings to far the other side and it gets claimed that the poles "won the battle of britain." HIstory is complicated and there almost never is a black and white answer.
@@dernwine Polish & other effort was only 1/10th? Compare the British empire to a lil country like Poland who didn't exist for centuries.. and thank them for being there at all. Allies didn't exactly help Poland in WW2.. Sabaton even sings about it.
@@A_Ducky Exhibit A of why the Polish involvement is hard to untangle: People like you get their nationalist knickers in a twist. For the record the RAF was only founded a few months before the Polish Republic, so centuries of History had nothing to do with it, and yes, the Polish contribution amounted to about 140 pilots out of the 1,000+ fighter pilots the RAF had so again, a bit of perspective is needed here. And for the Allies who didn't help Poland? Britain send a second generation to an early grave and litterally went into a war that they knew would cost them their empire for Poland, so cut the shit about "allies not helping."
Watching some of your older reactions (a bit late to the party) I couln't skip the one about the most badass Polish military unit. Poland has the most interesting history of all European nations. We experienced periods of being a great empire (Jagiellon dynasty), gradual decline and losing independence, then regaining it a few times. The Battle of Vienna is one of the events that even the kids here learn about in the primary school. It's often mentioned when we help other nations. Recently, when hundreds of Polish firefighters went to Greece to help fighting enormous wilfires, one of their commanders compared them to the Winged Hussars. Greetings from Poland:)
I follow a bunch of of other "reactors" and you are the most nuclear, you analyze music on an atomic level. I love your background facts about the band, the productions, pyros, instruments and sounds. I'm from Sweden and i want to bestow to you an honorary citizenship of Sweden because you understand and share our pride in SABATON.
The day of the Battle of Vienna in Poland is considered as the day of polish land forces and is celebrated every year. It was not the last great cavalry charge in Poland’s history. There were actually many during 20th century. Cheers from Poland
The most memey Metal song out there. Its one of their greatest songs and made them popular in Europe. Their history episode of this song will tell you a lot. After seeing it you will understand the lyrics more. I love this song!
This Tank reaction was just as heartfelt as the cry of the Viennese that fateful day. They say you could hear the charge of winged Husars from 8 miles away, with the herolds at the rear flank pronouncing in Polish "Take heed Ottomans! This is going to make a sweet metal song one day! "
This was great, but now I can’t get the vision of the Winged Hussars riding into battle singing “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life” as they ride down from Calvary 🤣🤣
I looked it up once. The “we remember in september” is in reference to Vienna. If my memory is correct, and if someone who fully knows better can correct me, Vienna every year holds a celebration to commemorate the Winged Hussars coming down the calemburg to save the city. Complete with ceremonial hussars marching down the streets. Great vid Tank. Being 50% Polish and 4th gen Polish American this song stirs pride for my heritage every time i hear it along with 40:1 and uprising. We just don’t know how to quit and are too stubborn to cave in. As for future songs... hmm.... where to go from here... Ghost in the trenches, to hell and back (you should watch the official music video for this one, its powerful) the last stand, the last battle, Union, Resist and bite, the final solution, and Devil Dogs. Hopefully i’m right above about Vienna but I welcome someone correcting me. Have a great day and cya next time Tank.
I am Polish or part Polish and Sabaton makes me feel proud of part of my heritage that I don't normally give second thought to, normally focus on my Ukrainian side because that is what mu dad always identified as. also seen Sabaton twice, once with Nighwish and most recently with Amon Amarth. will see them again!
the battle of bald mountain has often inspired artists. russian composer modeste mussorksky for example has composed an epic very impressive piece about this called " a night on bald mountain". the polish hussars were part of the forces led by the polish king, that arrived in the last moment and finally brought the victory.
As awesome as this song is, one of the coolest parts for me is that the Emissary that Leopold sent to Poland to request the assistance of John Sobieski and the Holy League was an ancestor of mine, Antonio Carafa.
Thanks for a great reaction. I would just like to point out that as you mentioned at the time Poland was part of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and people of different nationalities served in military, not only poles. Greetings from Lithuania!
Mentioning Hannes is Floor’s husband on every Sabaton video is like mentioning Empuu’s guitar on every Nightwish video. We all need a little laughter in our lives.
The musical phrases you hear after "We will seek vengeance eye for an eye" and "back home the sultan's sealing your fate" are very common in Turkish music (might also be in others, I just know the Turkish one from personal history). You hear it in a lot of traditional and classical Turkish music. Also, as someone who grew up in the Turkish educational system, I really wish this was how we'd learned our history. SO much better than the dry-ass "And in 16XX this battle happened and that agreement was signed" etc etc that we got - Covering ALL 800-some odd years of the existence of the Ottoman Empire.
They sometimes do that "just once". On their Wacken-Album they re-worded "Gott mit uns" (God with us) into "Noch ein Bier" ("Another Beer"), because that's what the German fans keep demanding off Joakim.
Sabaton deserve a lot more credit for what they're doing. Letting people know about these historic events. Nobel Price or something... 😉 Great reaction, btw!🤘
Great reaction as usual! Just realized you haven't done Carolus Rex yet, it's an hymn and it comes from what could be their best album. Hope you do it (and some more "oldies") soon! ♥ Screaming Eagles, Panzerkampf and Coat of Arms also come to mind. And talking about 5 amazing Swedes doing amazing metal, I can't wait for more Avatar! I would LOVE your reaction to "Silence in the Age of Apes"! My best wishes to your family! ♥
The first time I have seen Sabaton outside of a festival was on their Carolu Rex tour. What I loved especially about that tour was that the band has let the crowd decide on big parts of their setlist. Multiple times during their set they gave some different songs as options to choose from to the crowd deciding by how loud the people reacted to each song. That was such a fun way of interaction and making one feel sort of special and appreciated. And since I was lucky to be able to visit two shows on that tour I got to see 2 set that were quite different from another which was even more awesome.
I Love these Sabatonsaturdays ❤️ This is THE only band that you want to learn all about the songs, and I really enjoy the "new" lineup from the 3 latest albums. Chris, Thobbe/Tommy and Hannes. Amazing musicians 👌⭐ and..was it "Eternal Nocturnal" I heard in the background in the END? 💪🤩
Well, having grown up in Poland, our history lessons at school were mainly about the Polish badass history, of course 😂😂. And Europe overall, but not much outside of it... We have a famous writer, Henryk Sienkiewicz, who wrote about the 17th century Poland and many of its wars and battles, those are actually quite cool. The hussars cavalry is portrayed in a film based on his novel "With Fire and Sword", lots of history, battles, and some nice traditional soundtrack.
Amazing job once again, congrats man! You should REALLY check out To Hell and Back (if possible, the music video AND a live performance). This song is very catchy, and talks about PTSD, just another masterpiece from Sabaton. Cheers from Brazil!
once again, an incredibly good reaction comes from you. sabaton's stories of various historical events. even gets stuck with a history nerd like me. That you too are stuck for this is completely understandable. waiting with excitement for the next reaction. take care of yourself and stay away from nasty viruses
Agree, you can immediately identify a Sabaton song, between overall sound and Joachem's? vocals. His energy level is astounding: wears me out just watching!
One thing about Sabaton is that Jocke never makes false promises or statements. If he says they are doing an exclusive song it's exclusive. And if he says they won't do a song live, it's not gonna be done live. I'm from Falun, the home of Sabaton and I've been a fan since they played locally but they never lied. If a song felt wrong, they cut it from their live shows. No matter how much the crowd chants for it.
Great video! The part in the lyrics where it says "outnumbered 15 to 1" is about the austrian troops defending the city, who were about 10.000 strong and the ottomans were about 150.000 strong.
As an album, the Last Stand edges out the rest as my favorite album, despite many favorites among all of them. Bannockburn, the lost battalion, the last stand, shiroyama, the winged hussars, the last battle, roarkes drift - all are excellent. The use of triggered gunfire samples vice drums in the Lost Battalion was a neat trick.
i like your channel so much because i'm also from this business, i'm a lighting guy and startet to tour 2 Years ago but been in the job since 10 years. loving your perspective which mostly matches my own :) awesome ! and i started listening to Sabaton just before your channel started, u're the first one i'm watching reacts because i can feel yours :)
Now that you have seen a lot of historical songs, you should definitely check out their less historically themed songs such as Metal Machine, Metal Ripper, and my favorite of them Metal Crue. The lyrics of these songs will really amaze you because of your extensive heavy metal knowledge, and the live versions are sick as well.
I love Saturdays. It's my one day a week off and I get to start it with Tank and Sabaton! You gotta do 'White Death' soon, I named my pet python after that guy.
Thank you VERY much for Sabaton Saturdays!! This winter nearly ended me, and these special days helped a ton!! More than I can put into words. Can't wait for the next one! 🤘😎🤘
My absolute favourite song on this album is The Last Stand...A song about the last stand of the swiss guard in 1527 during the sack of rome...As a swiss guy myself I love this song abd they always play it during performances in Switzerland...Its one to check out for sure...
If my history is correct, the winged hussars were an elite force that for 200+ years never lost a battle. Basically if they entered the fray, the enemy had already lost as they would break merely from the presence, much less the hussars famous charges and other heavy battle tactics to wreak untold havoc against troops on foot, Wether i got the exact numbers of years right i cant say with 100% but the winged hussars are as legendary as the swedish caroleans, only the hussars were much much earlier in history but comparable in the sense that even a small force could take 10 000+ killed and more wounded, and suffer 10-50 casaulties of their own. Truly the stuff of legends, and unbelievable except it is well documented from neutral sides, and both parties to the conflict in official documents so as unbelievable as some stories may seem, it is a matter of fact and belief plays no part. Which makes it so much more badass. Also ,if i recall correctly, the polish king himself led the hussars as they charged from the high ground and scattered and routed the ottoman forces.
Sabaton often does exclusive songs live when they are in a city/country they have a song about but that is not in the "regular" set list :) Like en livstid i krig was only played in Sweden or resit and bite (you have to listen this one !) only in Belgium... And as French I do belive we will be able to enjoy Fields of Verdun live for a long time !
Lithuanian here. We have a few HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) schools in my country and they are called "Husaras". Also, we see Winged Hussar references in historical fairs, museums and many things are called this way. Reenactment is also a thing. So in Poland and Lithuania this stuff is still alive in cultural consciousness. Man, most of Europe is envy of USA's economy, lifestyle and prestige, but USA doesn't have one thing that us do: amazingly awesome history like that 😋 P.S. Wow, I just noticed you have Fallen behind you, lol.
Three things as I am a Pole: 1st) If you recollect the Battle of Helm's Deep in "The Two Towers", when Eomer arrives with White Gandalf and Riders of Rohan, and they charge from the very steep slope - that's how it looked like. Tolkien based this charge on Battle of Viena, just pushed it to extreme (well, filmmakers definitely did, the horses go almost vertical, ffs). That was the sheer power of this calvarly that allowed them to decimate troops even if the odds by pure numbers were against them. 2nd) The whole matter of wings is hugely misunderstood in Poland as well due to a hazy history knowledge and - well - movies. Hussars never went into any battle with those wings on their backs, it would be a ridiculous drawback to a horserider's mobility. They were a panzer force of their time, the amount of practise which they put into learing their drill was immense and due to that they were able to ride in a really meticulously preserved line. They pretty much converted their horses into a frickin' wall of galloping meat with virtually no space between them. They killed troopers with the impact alone plus with long lances that were driven by the saddle. Properly aimed, it pierced human flesh like butter. An officialy written record was 6 musketeers nailed with one pike. Like a fuckin barbecque. When the formation declined in time (which is a separate topic, why it eventually happened) they were turned into a honorary guard for the furnerals of state dignitaries. And THEN, in XVIII century, they started to carry wings on their backs. As a form of a costume. When you don't gallop, when you don't swing a sabre - yeah, you can wear this damn thing. But not in a combat. They look so cool with this feather on their backs though, a lot of filmakers decided to screw the facts and show those riders using wings in battles. And this vision of a hussar so tightly sticked to people's imagination that had anybody now tried to show them how they honest to God looked, the audience - well, the Polish audience for sure - would have rejected it. You just can't beat that stereotype with a stick anymore. 3rd) Yes, they were called winged hussars in their time of prime. There is no consensus why, but historians speculate that it's both because they put feathers in their hats and armor and also: at the end of their lances they attached a two-piece banner. When they charged and started to ride really fast, this fabric started to rattle. From the perspective of a standing troop soldier that's been charged head on, it looked like wings of a bird starting to fly.
In the way you connect with your Irish heritage, I connect with songs that relate to my Polish heritage. This song resonates strongly with my whole family-- my dad even made his own Winged Hussar armor! Thanks for finally reacting to this outstanding song! 🤘🏻
Thank you Tank, for reacting to one of my most favourite Sabaton songs (even if a choice is very hard there ^^) . I may be mistaken, but I think the "15:1" was the numbers of the Vienna garrison vs. the Ottoman army..but as I said, I may be wrong there.. if you ever manage to visit VIenna, visit the "Heeresgeschichtliches Museum",they have artifacts and loot of that battle and some very cool displays :) If I may nag you a bit in the end, let me remind you of 3 more songs, I love a lot, these would be "The last battle", "Heart of Iron" and "Cliffs of Gallipoli" Have a great Sunday,my friend :)
Poland (along with Lithuania) once controlled the largest land area in Europe. Now "catching" Poland at any point in history... is a bit of a feat. It blows my mind how much Polands borders have changed over time. 8|
Awsome to hear your reactions to Sabaton. Ihave worked as a stagehand and done some rigging for them in different venues here in Sweden but the best is at their own festival called Sabaton Open Air in Falun Dalarana where they are from, So when this pandemic is over i hope you come over and visit that festival you will have a blast indeed, Cheers from a Swedish Pagan
I'm really surprised you haven't reacted to any Sabaton songs about Finnish history, since you've reacted to so many Finnish bands :D So please, check out Soldier of 3 Armies, White Death and Talvisota!
Me: This is best music reaction channel on YT beacuse Tank actually knows what he is talking about. Tank: *confuses every guitar model in video* XD But no, really, best music reaction channel on YT. Keep up the good work!
Within a dozen or so minutes, nearly 20,000 horsemen, including 2,500 hussars, fell from the hill on the Turks standing in the valley. The heavy driving gradually gained momentum, then it went full blast and rushed like a hurricane into battle. It was followed by armored banners, light cavalry and allied forces - Austrians and Germans. Greetings from Poland.
The Siege of Vienna lasted 60 days. On the 11th September, the relief forces arrived on the field. On the 12th September they attacked. 3000 Heavy Cavalry, the Winged Hussars, led a combined cavalry charge of 18,000 against an estimated 150,000 Ottoman troops... and routed them from the field. The largest charge in history. It's familiar because of that date: certain cowards wanted to "reclaim the date for Islam", as the Battle of Vienna was a huge embarrassment for the Islamic Caliphate. The big difference is that Vienna had real men fighting like lions against other real men in open and honest battle, seriously outnumbered. Soldier to soldier, warrior to warrior. Sept 11th 2001 was an abhorrent display of cowardice by a small group of scum who murdered 3000 innocent civilians. They reclaimed nothing. When we remember Sept 11th...and Sept 12th... remember the real one.
There's a video floating around somewhere on UA-cam where they're getting the crowd amped up for Swedish Pagans, and instead went into Winged Hussars. One of my favorite Sabaton videos and I wish they'd do that a little bit more often lmao. Oh also, I'd recommend The Art of War next (or later down the line). One of the first Sabaton songs I heard back when that album dropped in 2008, and one of my personal favorites (you might also notice that it shares a similar melody to this one lol).
Ngl, I would love to see this song used in the canter parts of a dressage program. It's got the perfect beat for it. Especially for the extended canter and flying lead changes in each stride.
As a Pole, I can say that there is no significant holiday because of the anniversary of battle of Vienna. The lyrics saying "We remember in September" simply mean that this event had a huge impact on the course of history and will never be forgotten.
Just a great reaction Tank 🤘🤘 Feels like Saturdays are the highlight of week, waiting for your Sabaton Saturdays 😎 Please check out ”Talvisota” about the Russian invasion of Finland WW2 and/or ”Reign of terror”, the hunt after Saddan Hussein, both are just outstanding songs!
Had to finally subscribe. Tank just seems like a cool fucking dude. Watch a few different reaction channels and this is the only one that hasn’t faded away. And dudes love of Sabaton is just a bonus. I work regularly in Gettysburg PA and drive by the battlefield blasting Sabaton and always smile, wish they would write about that battle. Anyway cheers Tank and keep doing your shit!
Good choice :-) Next consideration: Metal crue (double reaction with Piscator´s video is a must) 1648 - unjustifiably overlook treasure Metal Machine (just for fun of it. Maybe it would be fun to make one really long video for Metal crue/Metal machine/Metal ripper) Screaming Eagles Kingdom come (double reaction with Manowar´s original)
Funny history for You, Tank ;) For Polish forces Vienna relief was not a military operation. It was... pilgrimage. Yup, pilgrimage. As for military expedition king would have to rise special taxes approved by Sejm (parliament) - and there was no time for that. Or pay from his own coffer - that was empty as hell. So the only one option left was quite unorthodox - call for pilgrimage where all participant were to pay for themselves. Every evening was conducted with field mess like proper pilgrimage etc. Force was small, but elite - they needed to spearhead charge - rest of German and Austrian cavalry could go behind and use advantage Hussars gave them.
Annother great reaction to annother great Sabaton song! Like I have said before, I am really really looking forward to seeing you react to the three songs they have about finnish history, I would reccomend doing them one after anoother... Starting out with Talvisota (the winter war) the first week, then 'White Death' the next week and finally 'Soldier of Three Armies'!
When you listen closely you maybe find some music-vibes relayted to the country or region of the story. This e.g. has something of oriental flair in the bridge (like "Counterstike", "Panzer Battalion" or "Reign of Terror"), in "Hearts of Iron" they play Beethovens 7th as a solo (because ... Germany). In "to Hell an Back" there is this Spagetti-Western intro/mid/outro ... and on and on... Like little eastereggs hidden in the story (as in D2 the Gjallarhorn for 20 exotic engrams at Spiders lair seven seasons ago ;) )
This is the only place you need to go for a reaction. I really enjoy this, Tank! Now go and check out Seven pillars of Wisdom...it is about time...give up?...never...
As always i enjoyed this reaction video with you, i know you get tons of suggestions but I would like to slip one in anyway. "Rorke's Drift" In my opinion it is one of their songs that fly a bit under the radar, there is some great gitarr in it for instance, as for the history it might not be the typical "good guy" theme. There is an official lyric video, and a few there someone has synced the music to some movie but to my knowledge no live-version available. Anyhow check it out i think you will like. Cheers from Sweden
History. That's why I've always loved this band. World history in every song. If this was the way history was taught then maybe there would be a greater appreciation for the subject. "Students, put away your books, this is the way I teach History."
Ah, the "Sabaton effect", feeling patriotic for every country they sing about. And The Winged Hussards Arrived 🤘🤘
*Especially* Poland.
And then the Winged Hussars meme comments arrived!
If the Siege of Vienna feels familiar for you without really knowing why, it's probably because Tolkien based a large part of the Battle of Helm's Deep on the Siege of Vienna. The Rohirrim are essentially the Winged Hussars of Middle Earth.
Makes sense.. as Tolkien started writing in the trenches of WW1
Actually the battle of helm's deep is changed in the movie so the battle of pelennor fields is more inspired by the siege of Vienna
I knew there has to be a reason I always have this picture of the Rohirrim arriving at Helm's Deep when I listen to the song.
I was about to comment tha same. I wasn't sure what LOTR battle was, if the siege of Minas Tirith or Helm's Deep. But I knew the Rohirrim were the Winged Hussars
@@hugojuarez680 in the movies you can see inspiration in both, really

Right. But he did it all for Poland & it's suffering people, and upon return that's what he got. Fckn communists! 🤬
@@A_Ducky You don't even realize how nice it made me feel after these words. You are welcome to Poland
@@JJolZi0mekpl
Just the truth, which must be known.. especially in today's age of "fake news".
During the live Demons & Wizards performance at Wacken 2019, I randomly went into the live chat here on YT to ask if anyone had a screen capture of that gig.

@Clinton Reisig In Germany no one says that
@@_coolman_8941 Allgaeuer Zeitung last year used the phrase "Polish death camps".
IMHO Tank should stop with these (this and the EV-1) "jokes". It's become a boring meme.
Holy shit if they did WH40k album I could die
Bit of fun fact, Swedish national anthem is one of the few where the name of the country isn't mentioned, but Sweden is mentioned in the Polish national anthem!
I am from Szwederowo, it’s area in Bydgoszcz. In polish Sweden is Szwecja. So my area was called like Swedish place, common story says that Swedish army was marching on this fields.
Ahh yes. The Winged Hussars have finally arrived.
😁
I was going to clean up my kitchen, but then the winged hussars arrived 😅😂
@@Sadfluffybear 😂😂 that’s my official excuse from now on.
Took them long enough.
Cheers / B.
And then also listen to Sabaton's Aces in Exile.
On the other hand the Polish (and wider international aid) effort to the Battle of Britain was only about 1/10th of the fighter squadrons deployed during the battle, so when the pendulum swings to far the other side and it gets claimed that the poles "won the battle of britain."
HIstory is complicated and there almost never is a black and white answer.
@@dernwine
Polish & other effort was only 1/10th?
That means a ton, and I appreciate it! Thank you! 🤘💪 🇸🇪
"
AND THEN THE HEADBANGING TANK ARRIVED!
🤘🤘🤘

I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you recover fully soon.
To Hell and Back is their best video, imho. That's my song, coz PTSD. And you all know how hard it is to choose just one from their catalogue.
I've had two Polish girlfriends in my life: YES, they know how to fight! ^^
:D
As awesome as this song is, one of the coolest parts for me is that the Emissary that Leopold sent to Poland to request the assistance of John Sobieski and the Holy League was an ancestor of mine, Antonio Carafa.
Shiroyama is probably my favourite song from this album.
I'd second that!
It's hard. Quite a few songs I love there, the whole last part of the album especially. Shiroyama, Hussars and The Last Battle are all great

I was there! ❤️ One of the best days in my life 😍 The concert was amazing! 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for a great reaction. I would just like to point out that as you mentioned at the time Poland was part of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and people of different nationalities served in military, not only poles. Greetings from Lithuania!
All the sabaton songs gives me good energy, and you smile in the reacts and i like it.
What's a "Wacken album" please?
I think that Joakim meant no other concert was going to feature Winged Hussars

Sabaton deserve a lot more credit for what they're doing. Letting people know about these historic events. Nobel Price or something... 😉

"Coat of Arms" is one of the catchiest & most underrated songs IMHO. Even that shirt design is my fave. 🤘😎🤘
Oh, I definitely second Screaming Eagles, Panzerkampf and Coat of Arms!
"Saboteurs" too.. and the entire "Carolus Rex" album.. especially the title song (fave version: Masters of Rock 2012) and "Caroleans Prayer".
all that album is awesome....right now my favourite...
Coat of Arms is sooo good
God... I love the background vocals in the last chorus.
With all those wings flapping in the wind I wouldn't blame the enemy for thinking Heaven's angels were out for blood!

Agree, you can immediately identify a Sabaton song, between overall sound and Joachem's? vocals. His energy level is astounding: wears me out just watching!
great reaction as always, you never disappoint me :) keep on the sabaton saturday :)

Now that you have seen a lot of historical songs, you should definitely check out their less historically themed songs such as Metal Machine, Metal Ripper, and my favorite of them Metal Crue. The lyrics of these songs will really amaze you because of your extensive heavy metal knowledge, and the live versions are sick as well.

...THEN THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED
@@TankTheTech 😂😂😂😂
When the chorus hits, All i think about is LoTR when gandalf came back with an army to helms deep and charged the Uruk-hai's xD
Sabaton often does exclusive songs live when they are in a city/country they have a song about but that is not in the "regular" set list :)

Found you because ronnie watched your reaction and you did amazing. I love your tech tips super cool. Keep up the amazing work brother
Thanks a ton!!!
Three things as I am a Pole:
1st) If you recollect the Battle of Helm's Deep in "The Two Towers", when Eomer arrives with White Gandalf and Riders of Rohan, and they charge from the very steep slope - that's how it looked like.

Thank you Tank, for reacting to one of my most favourite Sabaton songs (even if a choice is very hard there ^^) .
Thank you!
If the ottomans had won in Vienna there would probably be no western culture in Europe anymore
Just a great reaction Tank 🤘🤘
Feels like Saturdays are the highlight of week, waiting for your Sabaton Saturdays 😎
Please check out ”Talvisota” about the Russian invasion of Finland WW2 and/or ”Reign of terror”, the hunt after Saddan Hussein, both are just outstanding songs!
Thanks a ton, man!!!
I really enjoy your videos. 🤘🇸🇪🤘
Thank you!
Thanks again .Whas Awsome
Good choice :-)
Next consideration:
Metal crue (double reaction with Piscator´s video is a must)
1648 - unjustifiably overlook treasure
Metal Machine (just for fun of it. Maybe it would be fun to make one really long video for Metal crue/Metal machine/Metal ripper)
Screaming Eagles
Kingdom come (double reaction with Manowar´s original)
I was just on my way home from work... then the Winged Hussars reaction arrived.
Finally the winged hussars have arrived, just waiting for more songs from Sabaton's masterpiece,Carolus Rex
History. That's why I've always loved this band. World history in every song. If this was the way history was taught then maybe there would be a greater appreciation for the subject. "Students, put away your books, this is the way I teach History."
