Brian, as always- fantastic review!! @16:34 Sony's detail is off the charts; thereafter @16:43 shadow nuances are amazing! Additionally, @16:49 the vividness and accuracy on the A95L are unparalleled. Samsung certainly has a slight edge in the brightness/color saturation areas generally speaking but cannot go wrong with either of these beautiful displays.

S95D content is so rare for some reason. I am watching this on my S95D :) I don't think it's fair to call this 'matte'. It is not your typical everyday matte material. I was so absorbed at looking at how gorgeous the game is, that I didn't even notice the jump scares lol.
You may have bought the best gaming TV for 2024. It's hard to say, yet. That said, it is highly unlikely the S90D (or QN900D if OLED is a must) will be better than the S95D. Something happened in KG's livestream after a firmware update to the S95B that was taking the gaming crown from the S90D (which was already beating the G4 handily). I'm not the only one to say this. Sony in this comparison looks way sharper detail is very noticeable. Makes me think this might be do to the matte screen in my opinion. Great job once again Brian, excellent side by side and well articulated points presented here. I think the S95D is getting way over the top criticism, it is on called for. It is a great TV no doubt, even though I am more of a Sony guy.
Thanks Brian for always going the extra mile. We know that this is not only a job for you, but you are genuinely interested in giving us the best info out there so we can make the best decision possible or just knowing all the new stuff out there. I like brightness only as much as it doesn't take away detail and realism. Sometimes the Samsung is so bright, you miss some detail and it looks like an extra light is shining on the scene. We are all different so I understand those who just love the immaculate bright color. For me, I'd take the Sony for the fact of the processing, upscaling and detail look impressively real as opposed to partially artificially enhanced. Either way, like you said, what matters most is what the buyers priorities are. Sony for me and LG comes in 2nd. Samsung is just too saturated or whatever professional term you use. I'm sure you get the gist of what I'm saying. Thanks again for going above and beyond sir. You are awesome !!!!
Personally I didn't throw the 95D off my list because of the matte display, I threw it out due to lack of Dolby Vision support. Frankly, for the room my TV is in, that anti reflection would actually be quite useful. If Samsung finally gives up 10+ and support DV, I would have pulled the trigger as soon as it was available.
Sony has the best processor for movies and streaming. LG G4 is second best at movies and streaming and the best at gaming. While Samsung has the worse processor overall.
Great comparaison between a95L and s95D, I used to have Samsung TVs and gotta admit the new S95D looks Amazing ! I purchased recently the A95L 77” and frankly the image quality and processing are exquisite and natural. It has a right balance to me ! But You totally right it’s really depending on your liking and I am leaning more in details and accuracy color for film making. the brightness hit where it needs to be on the a95L with that said s95D has its color and brightness punches also a treat for the eyes too ! that some would prefer. Yes both looks with Stunning images. Thanks for doing this ! Great vids as always !
A95L or G4? I'm very confused because I literally just saw all the TVs I'm considering at the store and somehow the one I liked the most by far was the S90C followed by the Bravia 8.... Help
I remember my “good friend” Brian saying that future tv’s need to focus on other things besides brightness. In some scenes the s95D looks better and in others it loses detail looking blown out. I still prefer the more natural look of the A95L.
Keep in mind that the S95D is maintaining the details as it's the camera which is clipping. I mention this throughout. That said the Sony does have better all around processing
Thanks as usual for doing these long comparisons. One thing I would love to see though is some information on motion processing. Most of the Demos running here are likely 4K60 sources, so they will look fine, but how about throwing in a 4K24p test Video. Something challenging like a flock of birds flying across the screen or a bike or other object moving in front of a brick wall? Maybe a few small, fast objects zipping across the screen? For me, the quality of the Motion Interpolation is far more of a deciding factor than brightness which I usually have to turn down anyway in m dark room.
I agree. Im in the process of "sampling" tvs from Best Buy at the moment. Just traded in a Bravia 7 for an S90D. Now I have 60 days to trade that in if I want to. Its kinda turning into layaway since each time I come back I spend a bit more on the next one. Doesnt feel like such a huge spend when its not all at once 😂
Please don't hate on me. I currently have a Pioneer Kuro KRP 500m. It's recently developed the 8 blue light blinking code of death. I'm watching this on my cell phone. I realize that this is very subjective. To my eyes the Sony has blacker black and better natural color. The Samsung was so bright at times the color was washed out. Kind of surprising to me because I wanted to like the Samsung after hearing good things about them for years.
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Wonderful! The coating was the one thing that worried me about the TV. But in that case I’ll definitely be going with the Samsung for my movie room then. Thank you for helping me decide my purchase!
Thank you for your review engineering background here. The that the Samsung 95 D is not bad The Sony A95 L is Michael Jordan, the Samsung is Scotty Pippin. Scotty Pippin was only #2 on the Bulls because his teammate was Michael Jordan, if that makes sense. I prefer Jordan to Pippin.
Those specular highlights on the S95D are DELICIOUS. Also love how the 95D gets so bright in Dynamic it makes the camera start clipping like mad lol. Note: I might be a bit biased since I’m watching this on a 77” S95D, but the coin flip was between this and the A95L, and the deal got me this plus a soundbar for less than a great deal on the A95L, and am glad I made it 🤪😜😁. And yes Google TV still beats the crap outta Tizen. Gonna be like Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul 😜 for OS’s.
@@cooleyg7859 G4 had bad DSE, gaming was much better on the S95D. Movies better on G4 better processing, but brightness and QD color volume on the S95D makes gaming better IMO.
Brian, I have the G4 and I'm not happy with it. Watching a 4k blu ray disc on a Panasonic 820 player, there is judder no matter what setting. On top of that, the clarity settings are locked for whatever reason. It's a little dull color-wise, too. Football was also unimpressive to me. It's a great TV, it just hasn't wowed me. The best TV I've seen to date was the A95K. I had to return it because of random freezes and shut downs. I bought an S90C with a 2nd gen panel. I recently sold that. Now, every tv I see falls short of the A95k. The processing and sharpness was unreal to me. Now I'm looking at the A95L and S95D. Can you offer any insight? I appreciate it.
Both amazing tvs. I think the Sony has more detail in the slightly brighter scenes put out by the Samsung. Stip video at 19.16 see the detail on the grapes for the Sony. Great job, Bri. Of course you can change your mind on which tv you like.....thats why we follow you. Keeping it real ♥️
Brian I'd much rather you be a grown ass man about it, and have your opinion change over weeks and months after actually spending the time that most of us honestly don't have and then giving an overall updated perspective especially as more tv's come out. It only makes sense and its realistic. Thanks and keep it up, its part of your brand now.
Upgraded from the LGC1 to the A95L this week and it’s still the best looking TV available. Films especially look incredible and gaming is awesome. Just wish it still had audio profiles (movies, sports, music etc)
So Brian, help me decide. We have a relatively small living room and I want to stick to 65" due to a couple reasons. I can draw curtains, so sun won't be an issue. We have a crappy LG now, which seems like its never light enough. Either of these tvs will be a huge upgrade. Our use case is mainly 2 fold - 1 gaming (not serious) and movies/tv. I really like the granularity on the Sony, but what gaming features are on the Samsung? Thx!
Samsung has 144hz and Sony only 120hz. Much smoother gaming on Samsung. If you watch movies with lights turned off, the matte screen won't factor in. Samsung is brighter, punchier, sharper, more dynamic
19:19 the leaf is white on the Samsung and green on the Sony what's going on? 19:34 the waves disappear on the Samsung but are clear on the Sony. And if it really is the camera doing this not the TV how are we supposed to compare? And why is the camera only affecting the Samsung and not the Sony? Something weird going on here
One thing to note is the 3rd gen panel can truly reproduce white, which the Sony cannot. That combined with higher color luminance gives the Sony a run for the money.
Nice video I have the samsung S95C and the sony A95l both are 65 and I had them side by side the S95C to me was the winner in my eyes the A95l is a great tv as well
First that comes to my mind is design and picture quality, and Samsung fails it on my end with the Matt finish, yes the color are vibrant and colorful, but details are missing and the finish looks bad when tv is off. That why I’m going to get the g4 by Black Friday in 83’’ or 77’’.
The Samsung looks brighter to me but the colors look deeper and more vibrant on the Sony. If you pause the video at the scene 31:16 the Sony is missing a lot of detail in three large areas of the image and the brightness is night and day. I think there are examples where both perform better on different scenes and in different viewing modes. I don't think you could go far wrong with either or the G4 to be honest, gamers may prefer the G4. The new super bright BRAVIA 9 mini LED with precise control of all those dimming zones could also be a consideration for some.
the A95L is no doubt still the king, but considering (in my country at least) the price for S95D is 1300$ while the A95L is 2000$ for the same 55" size, I'd say the slight difference between them is not worth 700$ unless you have bags of money to spend
Both are complete monsters. Sony just bugs the heck out of me that they simply are priced way too high compared to the competitors. This comparison the Sony is easily $500 more and honestly based on this side by side not worth it…
Both great looking TVs. I prefer the A95L just for more detail and color accuracy. I was going to get a LG G4 but with the hdmi issue I am not sure I want to risk it. Great overview of the differences between each tv. Really can't go wrong. I'm a big movie watcher with a very large collection so gaming is not as important to me.
Guessing the content is super uncompressed 4k. Wonder how these perform on the compressed low bandwidth materially typically supplied by streaming services
@@carywatson1146 Spend $50 on a yearly membership and Best Buy lets you try it out for 60 days. Its really the only way to know for sure if you like a tv
How can the s95d push brightness so much more than the a95l, it's same technology as last year I assume? Or maybe they changed up the pixel layout, but that would influence the brightness
@pb24dagrk Caleb said he was seeing around 1700 nits in filmmaker at the Samsung event. Which is a big jump over last year. But still waiting for the reviews of the retail units where they have more time
For me it's so much more to do with up conversion and motion judder/blur. Everything else is almost a wash you just get used to or adjust but motion judder, smearing or major noise issues I cannot get past. Sony is the most consistent fixing this on streaming imo
In KG's stream recently (A90L, S95B, S90D and G4) - The S90D was running away with the gaming section until the S95B was updated to the latest update.. The S95B was a complete and absolute gaming monster, with the S90D not very far behind. After that stream, as a gmaer mostly, I decided i am going either S95 series or QN900D this year. I have done so much back and forth up to this point. But i have narrowed the Samsung QD-OLED panels as best for gaming in OLED and the QN900D as best in miniLED. Where the G4 shines is in movie mode and processing. I do believe it looks quite stellar. That said, KG hadnt updated his S95B until well after that point, so who knows?
I can't speak what other creator's do or show especially in comparisons. For me the S95D is clearly above the others except the G4. I've games on the G4 for many hours and It's my favorite. The S95D has been featured on this channel many times and it's excellent. The 900D is also on this channel a ton. Either way you win

The pleasure is mine, my friend . Excellent comment!
I wouold like the Sony but I cannot fit the wide feet on my TV stand, is it possible to fit a centre stand to the back of a 55" Sony A95L? i am in UK
You can easily pick up a sanus stand online for very cheap my friend
Personally I didn't throw the 95D off my list because of the matte display, I threw it out due to lack of Dolby Vision support.
Frankly, for the room my TV is in, that anti reflection would actually be quite useful. If Samsung finally gives up 10+ and support DV, I would have pulled the trigger as soon as it was available.
Both top notch tvs. Sony is that enough noticeable better. Also way more expensive. That’s all you need to consider when buy
Is the processing of the a95L much better than s95D or is it just a bit better?
Sony has the best processor for movies and streaming. LG G4 is second best at movies and streaming and the best at gaming. While Samsung has the worse processor overall.
They both look fantastic! Great video
Thank you!!
Hi,
Is the S95D at a disadvantage in a Dark Room, because of the anti-glare screen ?
Many thanks,
Derek.
A95L or G4? I'm very confused because I literally just saw all the TVs I'm considering at the store and somehow the one I liked the most by far was the S90C followed by the Bravia 8.... Help
Any time stamp for sdr content?
I remember my “good friend” Brian saying that future tv’s need to focus on other things besides brightness. In some scenes the s95D looks better and in others it loses detail looking blown out. I still prefer the more natural look of the A95L.
Keep in mind that the S95D is maintaining the details as it's the camera which is clipping. I mention this throughout. That said the Sony does have better all around processing
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPYI’m biased. Been with Sony since the Z9D.
Whats the Demo Video called?
Does the s95d screen clean easy if it has finger prints on ?
It does my friend. Easier than glossy
So in a dark room, are there any lifted blacks or blooming on the Samsung?
None
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Wonderful! The coating was the one thing that worried me about the TV. But in that case I’ll definitely be going with the Samsung for my movie room then. Thank you for helping me decide my purchase!

Thank you for your review engineering background here. The that the Samsung 95 D is not bad
The Sony A95 L is Michael Jordan, the Samsung is Scotty Pippin.
I wonder how much they have to crank up the Samsung to be as bright with the matte screen and will it cause premature burn in
you are right
Question for you. Was the S95D calibrated or are they both out of box?
Both out of the box

@@Dadazoid my pleasure! Thank you for watching!
I returned my G4 kept 77 S95D for dark basement gaming on my 4090 PS5. Do you know how many clicks for HDR on the PS5 for the S95D?
Whats your opinion on both
so you kept the TV with anti glare coating that ruins some of that finished glossy contrast and look - for dark basement gaming? makes sense.
@@cooleyg7859 G4 had bad DSE, gaming was much better on the S95D. Movies better on G4 better processing, but brightness and QD color volume on the S95D makes gaming better IMO.
@@whiskizyo2067 yeah it does make sense, because in the dark you can’t notice it lol. Simpleton
How much was your G4 and what was the size?
Sitting close, Sony wins on details. But Samsung is a tad brighter. Great video. 👍
details is everything, samsung bright mess
Way brighter and sharper
I'm going out today to get the A95L and this video made it even easier. The detail is insane and very noticeable and the colour punches ! wow.
Awesome! So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching
Did u get the A95l I just got the 77inch and my God what a tv I'm blown away with it
Both amazing tvs.
Is the Samsung 90 as good as the 95 ?
Brian I'd much rather you be a grown ass man about it, and have your opinion change over weeks and months after actually spending the time that most of us honestly don't have and then giving an overall updated perspective especially as more tv's come out. It only makes sense and its realistic. Thanks and keep it up, its part of your brand now.
I appreciate that Chris! The narrative can swing so the Wrong way that it's a detriment to you guys viewing us. Thank you
Upgraded from the LGC1 to the A95L this week and it’s still the best looking TV available. Films especially look incredible and gaming is awesome. Just wish it still had audio profiles (movies, sports, music etc)
Sony is the best for movies and streaming. If you game though the LG G4 and S95D are superior.
@ I game too but only use PS5 & Series X so only 2 HDMI ports for 120 gaming is fine.
Again at the 23:44 mark the Samsung seems unnaturally bright. Sonys picture looks more balanced and stable
Something weird going on here
Great Review as always!!!
3rd generation qd oled panel is the best panel out there. Too bad about the matte finish on s95D
Looking for that 77inch G4 and S95D comparison. Like everybody else I guess. Great content in the mean time
Thanks to Brian especially I've come to appreciate and prefer Jennifer Gala's demos more than the others especially the S&M Demos.😅
the flower at 16:00 looks more detailed on the Sony… Could this be due to the angle, which makes the Samsung’s image appear flat?
One thing to note is the 3rd gen panel can truly reproduce white, which the Sony cannot. That combined with higher color luminance gives the Sony a run for the money.
Both look amazing. Love my S89C! 😜
Nice video I have the samsung S95C and the sony A95l both are 65 and I had them side by side the S95C to me was the winner in my eyes the A95l is a great tv as well
Samsung brighter and sharper! Sony processing makes things too smooth at times and not as sharp as Samsung
First that comes to my mind is design and picture quality, and Samsung fails it on my end with the Matt finish, yes the color are vibrant and colorful, but details are missing and the finish looks bad when tv is off. That why I’m going to get the g4 by Black Friday in 83’’ or 77’’.
I own A95L, S95D and G4 and honestly the S95D looks the best with the matte finish. I am actually getting rid of G4
The S95D its the A95L brighter whit the mat finish you love Brian 😜 Good Job 👍
he doesnt love it tho. If s95D would have a glossy screen more enthusiast would consider it, cuz it is the most capable panel.
@@dante19890 😂😂😂
the A95L is no doubt still the king, but considering (in my country at least) the price for S95D is 1300$ while the A95L is 2000$ for the same 55" size, I'd say the slight difference between them is not worth 700$ unless you have bags of money to spend
Brian you gotta stop looking at me like that in these intros.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
watching this on my 13" laptop on 1080p:
ah yes the difference! the colours!
It’s a shame Sony hasn’t made the effort to utilise the Gen 3 QD OLED panel. Samsung’s S95D needs refinement, imo.
Samsung has artificial colors and crushes the details a lot...Sony has the sharpest and most detailed images, with vivid and real colors.
What HDMI issue?
Guessing the content is super uncompressed 4k. Wonder how these perform on the compressed low bandwidth materially typically supplied by streaming services
Well done! I had written off Samsung and now you have me looking again. Does it still have the “signature” Samsung skip now and again in the motion?
yes
Thx! LG or Sony it will be then. :/

Best detail and motion, upscale:g4
Best brightness,sharpness, color:s95d
The game functional powerhouse g4,s95d will sell like hot cakes.
How can the s95d push brightness so much more than the a95l, it's same technology as last year I assume? Or maybe they changed up the pixel layout, but that would influence the brightness
It's not the same, my friend . The S95d is a 3rd generation QD-OLED vs 2nd gen
Likely differences in EOTF tonemapping. Sony prefers accuracy and rolling off at the top. Samsung likely lifts to make brighter.
@pb24dagrk it's a 3rd generation panel vs 2nd
@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Understood. Waiting for the measurements though, Samsung does deviate more though with their tonemapping
Hey Bryan compare s95d to s95c it’s any huge difference.
I definitely will! The s95D is definitely brighter being a 3rd generation QD-OLED
