At the premium OLED price point I think Samsung is starting to put itself at a disadvantage by not supporting DTS and Dolby Vision. If I was paying top dollar for a flagship TV I would want all the top features available.

Great review and info as usual. Studio lights though. The decreased contrast will be much less in a home setting, though in a very bright room it can still be a massive issue. IMO matte screens are only good for pretty dark rooms.
@@HazewinDog ...and in pretty dark rooms there are NO reflections because there is no ambient light which can be reflected ... what actually is matte for then ? ;-)
@@marcuscole8796 It's perfect for rooms that have lots of ambient light but no direct light on the TV. Because there is no direct light on the panel you don't suffer from reduced contrast, and you won't have the mirror like finish where you can see your entire room like on glossy panels.

Dear Abby, Thanks for informating us by testing them. It has cleared up all hesitations as to which one we should buy. Please do LG G4 vs Sony A95L in the next. Best...
This is incredibly misleading as far as the reflections go - I got shipped an S90D with a WOLED panel and subsequently returned it and replaced with an S95D at 40% cheaper than I can get a G4. In both night and day for my viewing environment the reflections are significantly better for real world viewing compared to the Glossy S90D which I assume would be similar enough to a G4 in terms of pure screen coating. On camera the matte finish comes up worse but is far more watchable for ordinary lighting conditions compared to gloss. Studio lighting is not representative of 90% of househoulds, where the RTings shots are taken. Even one of the comparison shots has a different setting to that shot at 8:15 for the G4 trying to "mimic" a real home but you can clearly see studio lights reflecting off the TV.
My experience is the opposite. I agree about the studio lighting not being representative, but I have a lot of light coming into my apartment and I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred bucks for a matte version of my TV. I tried matte and I found it unusable unless I closed my darkening curtains almost completely.
I saw the S95D in a bright showroom yesterday with an uncovered window to the right on a side wall. I didn’t see any of this washed out effect, there must be a bright light source shining directly on the TV in this video. The S95D was side by side with a QN90D that doesn’t have the matte screen and I could see the entire window and the people walking by on the sidewalk clearly in its screen. I must say I much preferred the matte screen in that situation and I’m glad I finally found the S95D to see in person, it looked fantastic.
1:30 I like this solution! it looks janky at this point but I want most of the electronics of the TV to be external so that it can be easily repaired, replaced, upgraded (though price usually a problem that buying a new TV than a new central processing box)
She is the best tv reviewer. Very easy to understand to a layman . She is not like many reviewers who keep praising china tv no matter what . There signs we can spot whether they are sponsored or not, for example “For the price , this tv worth buying , giant slayer “ If they are not supposed to praise one brand , they will say , the tv black level is not as black as oled “ And so many other statements that you can notice .
Can you record a TV program (or pause live viewing) to a connected USB harddrive? Also, can you record a TV channel when the TV is off? I use both features a lot on my old 2015 LG 58UF830V with WebOS 2.x.
I have a Samsung and at present I have no real bugs (sometimes it “stops for a second” when changing image settings but that’s it. I have a S95B). In imagine that the more powerful S95D even fewer has. Not that I like Samsung’s UI, it’s VERY confusing and unpractical.
@Jeffvs yeah, I know, that wht I bought, just saying that not putting it in the comparison in the end was a let down, though in the s90d they did so it's not that bad 😅
I am very confused. In one of the review, rtings says LG G4 is almost there with sony in terms of image processing and rest of the time mention that sony is still superior. Instead of generic statements and score it would good to compare colors, texture, dimensionality etc in terms of image processing. Whats the point int buying these expensive TV's when image processing is not top notch ?

Samsung: you make an OLED but put a matte coating on it eliminating that "blacks look black" look, you charge premium prices for it but exclude Dolby Vision.

I just bought the s95D for my sleeping room, now I'm going to get the g4 at the end to upgrade my GX, I hope the upgrade is worth it, I must say that I will miss my q8f in my bedroom, but this s95d has impressed me in all aspects.
Good comparison Rtings I appreciate it, but honestly this comparison is not as close as it's depicted here. Although it may not be as colorful as the Sammy or the Sony you wouldn't know it when you take it home, infact you would think it's the most colorful TV ever produced, believe me I know. Without me being biased this was an easy decision for me. The LG clearly offers more, gives off less heat, which is a hell of a plus for an OLED panel especially with that kind of brightness. And I don't know about other folks but I have yet own an LG TV that have failed or had any issues, and I've owned plenty as well as some Samsungs. Also for me LG track record on pushing out updates for their TVs , even their older models have been quite shocking and greatly appreciated. I still get updates on my CX. Now as far as customer service I can't speak on that, because I haven't had issues with any of my LG TVs that would require me to call customer support. No flickering, no sound cutting out, no issues with the TV not turning on or turning off randomly. No pairing issues, no problems with soundbars or home theater systems. No HDMI handshake issues, no screen burns. LG TVs for me have just been superb, may not be the best but perfect for me. So with that type of personal experience, LG TVs is always my first choice, as I generally stick with what I know. Yes I own a 77inch LG G4, do I think it was worth the money I paid, honestly no it's too expensive, but I'm a sucker for technology and things with a history of working the way it was meant to without issues. And with that said I enjoy, I am stunned and absolutely love my G4. Hats off to LG.
My 2017 OLED 65C7 got another firmware update some weeks ago this year ... that's after being 7 years in use ... so: yes, I can confirm their permanent and very long-lasting support 🙂
Can you go more in depth about the thermal throttling issue on Samsung OLEDs? Last years S95C apparently also suffered from this issue if I read in your forums correctly? Do the S90 class OLEDs also suffer from this? But looking at your review of the S95D it seems to happen only at 10% windows or does it also happen on other window sizes too? Please go in-depth on this issue just like you did on burn-in as these two (heat and degradation) are inseparable. 🙏🙏
Does someone else has black screen flickering on the LG G4? I bought mine a week ago and since then I've this issue white watching on the build in UA-cam and Twitch App and white playing games on PC and PS5. Is there anything I should be aware of when buying a LG G4 TV like different displays they might have used or other parts of the TV you know like some different versions from the same modell...
Good video from a technical perspective. I'd like to see a good comparison between WebOS (LG), Tizen OS (Samsung), and Google TV (Sony) from an actual user perspective in common task such as changing the TV input, opening apps, etc. The last Samsung TV I setup made me want to throw the remote through the panel.
LG now has 5 year WebOS support which means the G4 goes from WebOS 24 to WebOS 28. Afaik, other manufacturers will leave you stuck with the OS the TV comes with so you'll be stuck with whatever the S95D Tizen OS version already there. You'll get bugfix firmware updates in the Samsung and that's it. I have a LG G2 which came with WebOS 22 and it's currently at WebOS 23 which completely changed the UI (and it's a bit snappier). It will presumably get WebOS 24 sometime this year and continue till WebOS 26.
This review is a bit confusing, So G4 is brighter white. but S95 has brighter colors. So does that mean that the S95 would be better in HDR, since most scenes aren't just white. Just because something gets brighter doesn't make it better since it also more washed out.
Great video Abby. It made me want both of these tvs and the Samsung S90D. The LG G4 has a lot going for it because I have Samsung Qled and Qd oled tvs, and I am wanting to try an oled with Dolby Vision. I think Samsung HDR 10+ is fantastic but all I ever hear is Dolby Vision, over and over. LG G4 sounds like one I could be happy with even though QD Oled is great.
Hi everyone, we can spend hours and hours discussing whether the matte finish is better or the glossy one... but the real difference is made by the quality and brightness of the COLOR and the QD OLED is unbeatable, I think it will be the future of OLED panels

Seems LG have better overall reliability compared to Samsung. In RTINGS own burn in and reliability tests Samsung TVs were more prone to burn in. This shows in the warranty as LG has 5 yr panel warranty as Samsung is only 1 yr. The throttling due to high temperatures in the Samsung is also not very encouraging. That and QA issues mentioned by RTINGS (one connect box connection dropouts, bent plastic, misaligned ports, etc).
The G4 gets MLA also with 83" ... the G3 didn't ("OLED.EX" instead) ... that's a MLA topic, OK ...lol ... just seems worth mentioning if interested in 83" screen size. The 97" remains with "OLED.EX" ... all other sizes down to 55" use MLA. The "rest" more or less refers to the new Alpha 11 processor and the improved software respectively. One of the biggest differences is the (noticeably higher) brightness in HDR gaming ... or the lack of a dim game mode compared to the G3. Others are mentioned here and in the G4 review ... like further improved upscaling, even higher color prescision ootb, a.s.o.

I'm a bit baffled with the obsession about DTS. I own an S95B myself and yes, it is annoying that it doesn't pass-through DTS, so I have to run my audio through my amp or soundbar. But saying that DTS is the best possible sound on Blu-Rays is simply not true. Dolby TrueHD/Atmos is as good and in Atmos' case, superior to any DTS variant. That's my only gripe so overall this was a good comparison.
I think they mean that on some (most?) blu-rays DTS is the best audio format available on that particular disc rather than it being the best codec that format as a whole supports.
@ReggieVdz Especially since the advent of UHD BluRay where the best audio formats are reserved for that format even though 'standard' BluRay is perfectly capable of running it...
@@varsas10 It's true that on regular Blu-Rays DTS is probably the most popular format, but these are high-end 4k TVs so one would think that UHD Blu-Rays would be a focus as well here. Most new movies get TrueHD or Atmos and quite a lot of older movies get a new Atmos mix as well when they are re-released in 4k.
@Reissuleipa It depends, if DTS isn't important to you then ignore that but it is the job of the review to bring it up as a potential issue, and I was addressing your comment that the information presented was incorrect.
Wrong, the TV audio doesn't support DTS HD, doesn't mean you cannot play DTS HD that is encoded on Bluray discs. It will of course play DTS HD if you plug your Bluray player ( via HDMI) to a soundbar/AV receiver that supports DTS HD.
Did you even watch the video? They answered that near the end of the video. The G4 is considered better than the S90D, and slightly better than the S95D.
I'd recommend going for the G3 instead of the two others you mentioned ... the G3 outperforms the S90D and is currently MUCH cheaper than the G4 ... the advantages/improvements G4 vs G3 are only marginal...
I think you are overplaying the color difference favoring Samsung. The difference in peak saturation is negligible. The only measurable difference is in green saturation. Also, in brightly lit rooms, like yours, the Samsung looks washed out probably due to the matte coating.

panas oled z95a ? should dilute this holy trinity LG, Sony, Samsung, by the way, the panel is like on the G4, and the MLA is the 2nd generation, it will be interesting to compare them
Could be panel to panel variance. Plus it could be firmware difference. Or it could be white balance difference. If you've got a really cool color temp it will measure much brighter. RTINGs measurements are at D65
I've seen the G4 and S95D. The Samsung's noticeable color depth advantage is more than worth sacrificing the slightly better white brightness of the LG. If I were in the market for another OLED, I would choose QD-OLED. Now if only Samsung would iron out its quality issues.... But I helped a friend wall mount a U8K. That thing is spectacular, my next display will be an extra large mini LED. I am willing to trade the deep perfect blacks for the Hisense especially when it costs only $2000.
Does the Samsung retains the review values on prolonged real world viewing or they have used the cheat program again that boosts values when review gear is connected to the TV like in 2021? Never trusting a product because of that fiasco again even if they have the better deal which they don't for this year.

Even though she said this, the settings on these tv’s look like they did a small calibration on the G4 and left the S95 D in standard. Not shocking since they’re a lot of industry plants being controlled. She didn’t verbally bash the Samsung. She definitely dulled down the settings in the Samsung to make it appear that the G4 is way better. As an average person with an average income, the G4 and the S95 D are relatively the same cost. There is absolutely no way i would have purchased the Samsung over the G4 if i saw the same thing she just displayed. Just keeping it real for the people in the comments. If i was a person who enjoyed accurate colors over a vivid picture, i would have went G4 or Sony. I’m just saying that this comparison doesn’t justify the crazy colors that this tv offers. That’s all. I can talk good about both TV’s without talking bad about the other.

7:00 the bright lights in that warehouse are doing the S95D dirty. It's causing the quantum dots on the screen to produce washed out screen and grey blacks compared to the LG WOLED panel.
Even if this is a worst case scenario, it's still reasonable to expect some people might put one of these TVs in very bright room. But true, I would've liked a comparison in a dark environment as well...
You fell asleep or didn't watch to the end... either way, they said the G4 is their top OLED pick, though the S95D is also an excellent choice. Honestly, it depends on what you value.
No, they left the viewers confused by telling to go for A95L or S90C for better value. It's more like spec comparison between the two titans without going into how the picture actually look to their eyes as direct viewing experience. Very cleverly avoided commiting on either of the two titans. May be showing the S95D little washed out was deliberately done.

S90D seems to be the better choice compared to the s95D
No matte coating
No one connect box (dropouts)
S90d doesnt have the 3rd gen qd oled panel, might even be a regular woled. Also the matte coating is a big plus. Better viewing experience in the light and the same viewing experience in the dark.
You can cleary see the G4 looking much better in detail and sharpness but maybe because the Samsung matte finish though.
But i would for sure go for the Lg G4

How about in dark room viewing, which is the best way to view oleds. Which one do you think is better in that environment?

In dark room, Any oled TV will do. You can't stand qled or even mini-leds in dark room .
wow the LG won this battle from the moment it was shown side by side 0:37 1:10. Samsungs matte coating completely destroys its contrast.
LG Cope is real…

With little ambient light watching SDR might still be acceptable, but for sure not for watching HDR.

I’m in the heavyweight division and only interested in televisions that are 83” or larger now so for me the G4 is the automatic winner but if I wanted a smaller tv for a brighter room I wouldn’t hesitate to consider the S95D

Dear Abby,

3:28
That's what i saw in the store, g4 and s95d side by side, the black on the g4 looks perfect dark while the black on the s95d looks grey
I'm pretty sure the Samsung's lack of contrast in ambient light is partially from the lack of a polarizer layer in addition to the matte coating.

The G4 stand has not been released yet (ST-G4WR8377). The G3 stand (SR-G3WU8377) fits the G4.
I have the older lg c7 and webos does fine by point and click. There is one thing the netflix app had a period that suddenly dolby vision didnt work
LG now has 5 year WebOS support which means the G4 goes from WebOS 24 to WebOS 28.
This review is a bit confusing,
So G4 is brighter white.
but S95 has brighter colors.
Any suggestions of soundbar for G4?
Did the Sony A95L solve the Dolby Vision problem or is it better to consider the LG G4 for home theater?

Excellent comparison Abby, G4 for the win, could you please provide to us how much temperature G4 gets after 1min on it's max brightness
What is the lifespan of an LG OLED TV ( burn in , dead pixels , maintain brightness) ?
Seems LG have better overall reliability compared to Samsung. In RTINGS own burn in and reliability tests Samsung TVs were more prone to burn in. This shows in the warranty as LG has 5 yr panel warranty as Samsung is only 1 yr. The throttling due to high temperatures in the Samsung is also not very encouraging. That and QA issues mentioned by RTINGS (one connect box connection dropouts, bent plastic, misaligned ports, etc).
Why can you combine Samsung QD OLED with MLA?
I bought the G3 last year, temping to buy the G4 since game mode doesn’t dim now.
I want to use a stand on 77" tv. Can I do this with the LG?
Aside from mla, what are the differences in specs in lg g4 sizes?
What ABL dimming? I am very distracted by this.

But saying that DTS is the best possible sound on Blu-Rays is simply not true. Dolby TrueHD/Atmos is as good and in Atmos' case, superior to any DTS variant. That's my only gripe so overall this was a good comparison.
I think they mean that on some (most?) blu-rays DTS is the best audio format available on that particular disc rather than it being the best codec that format as a whole supports.
a lot of blu-rays don't have TrueHD or atmos
So with the Samsung one can’t watch movies on disc that have Dts HDMA Audio?
It wil transcode it to dolby.
Wrong, the TV audio doesn't support DTS HD, doesn't mean you cannot play DTS HD that is encoded on Bluray discs. It will of course play DTS HD if you plug your Bluray player ( via HDMI) to a soundbar/AV receiver that supports DTS HD.

Bhai, I would suggest you wait till Diwali for offers. By then the Bravia 9 will also launch. Too bad we don't have the 75 A95L in India. I am in the same boat as you and will wait to compare G4 with Bravia 9.
One thing that might sway me towards a Sony Bravia 9 is that I bought the Sony Quads.
FYI, I am in the market for a 75/77 incher only.
What do you mean more expensive? Rn the G4 is 3.5k and the A95L is 2.5k at 65in
Pricing is based on US pricing at the time of filming this video. This can vary at times and regionally.
panas oled z95a ? should dilute this holy trinity LG, Sony, Samsung, by the way, the panel is like on the G4, and the MLA is the 2nd generation, it will be interesting to compare them
You measure G4 game mode at peak 1300 nits, mine hits 1450. I’ve confirmed across numerous tests
Could be panel to panel variance. Plus it could be firmware difference. Or it could be white balance difference. If you've got a really cool color temp it will measure much brighter. RTINGs measurements are at D65
150 difference could just be the testing tools used or where on the screen measurements were done.
@@glbernini0 please do not comment on things you know nothing about
I've seen the G4 and S95D.
With this presenter (amazing) and excellent format where time isn't wasted, RTINGS is going to come to dominate. Please keep it up
these TV reviews are top notch - whatever happen to that guy dave katzmeier from CNET lol
He's still at CNET lol
Does the Samsung retains the review values on prolonged real world viewing or they have used the cheat program again that boosts values when review gear is connected to the TV like in 2021? Never trusting a product because of that fiasco again even if they have the better deal which they don't for this year.
Even with these being called 2024 titans, looks like it's still 2023 models on the best of lists on the site? Have those been updated?
Samsung owner here. This is complete BS. The TV is not that washed out!!!!!! 😂 Quantum dot oled is always going to kill W-oled. The S95 D is waaaay better than what is being displayed. If you pick the G 4 over the S95 D please don’t do so because of this video.
You're an idiot
Conspiracy theory alert ... lol
@M.F.-lq7jbnah bro! I’m honest. I like a more vivid picture so that’s why i chose the Samsung. Plus i have a Samsung soundbar and that Q symphony is fire!!!! She made the tv look TRASH!!! There is no way im spending 4500 on a TV that is washed out. Fan boy or not. I’m a gamer and both TV’s have 4K @ 144Hz. The G4 is fire. If i was a person who enjoyed accurate colors over a vivid picture, i would have went G4 or Sony. I’m just saying that this comparison doesn’t justify the crazy colors that this tv offers. That’s all. I can talk good about both TV’s without talking bad about the other.
Q symphony is not fire lol that feature is mid ASF.@@bigboss-Miami
Can confirm, I was in the electronics store that have reasonably bright lights. The S95D was way better. The order is comibg in today, can't wait to set it up.
Why does the Samsung look grey on black backgrounds..?
Due to: 1. it lacks a polariser in the panel ... plus 2. the matte coating adds another portion
From the front, at first glance S95D colors already looks washed out of the the sticky matte coating 😅. For those planning to get S95D for gaming, don't, as Oliver from Digital Foundry had tons of issues with the one connect box and he ended up returning it.
I have the s95c and it is the best gaming tv for now at 144hz. Never had one issue with it. It is stable as a rock.
G3 65'' or G4 65'' as the 1st OLED?

in the preview alone the samsung looks worse
Yeah in bright light the anti-glare makes it look less vibrant.
@@jolness1 if you only watch in dark environments a QD Oled is a good choice but it's not for me
😂😂😂
@@jolness1you can't say that when you haven't seen that in person
I can't believe that they didn't notice it while editing the video.
May be they deliberately wanted to show that in bright room, there may be a little washed out effect on the S95D?
7:00 the bright lights in that warehouse are doing the S95D dirty.
It's causing the quantum dots on the screen to produce washed out screen and grey blacks compared to the LG WOLED panel.
Even if this is a worst case scenario, it's still reasonable to expect some people might put one of these TVs in very bright room. But true, I would've liked a comparison in a dark environment as well...
Its the matte coating have seen same in store
Which is better u didn't mention is it lg g4 or s95d
You fell asleep or didn't watch to the end... either way, they said the G4 is their top OLED pick, though the S95D is also an excellent choice. Honestly, it depends on what you value.
No, they left the viewers confused by telling to go for A95L or S90C for better value.
It's more like spec comparison between the two titans without going into how the picture actually look to their eyes as direct viewing experience.
Very cleverly avoided commiting on either of the two titans.
May be showing the S95D little washed out was deliberately done.
Nice review!
A95L Sony is better..?
Which is the best for gaming?
