- What's better than one steam engine for Christmas? Two! Reading & Northern 4-6-2 #425 and Central Railroad of New Jersey 0-6-0 #113 teamed up for a second day of doubleheaded steam excursions from Minersville, PA on Sunday, December 14, 2014. BJVP was on hand to catch the action as both steamers powered their filled-to-capacity trains on three separate hour-long excursions towards the town of Cressona - both six-chime whistles echoing through the snow-covered hills and valleys. Enjoy this look at Doubleheaded Santa Steam!
Love that reading 6 chime and SP 6 chime with both steam locomotives. To special steam locomotives for special occasion.
Great video.
Thank you!
Loving the 6 Chimes... i would kill to be closer to these locomotives!
I'm glad I'm within driving distance myself.
Its funny..my dad chose to live where we do now because we're about an hour away from what was Steamtown USA...2 weeks after he moved up here they moved to scranton, hahaha.
***** Yikes! Bad luck...
Awesome !!!!!! The 425 is a great all around loco !!!!
WHO DOESNT LOVE STEAM
I know! Who doesn't? :)
Awesome video! I absolutely love the 6 chimes! I may be chasing the Pottsville train on Dec. 21!
Thanks!
Fantastic video!! The 6 chine really fits 425 well!
Speaking of whistles, did the 6 chime use to be on the Nickel Plate Road #765? Sounds familiar.
Thank you!!
Sean Ellis no, 425 is wearing an SP 6 chime
For the record, all whistles heard were 6 chimes. The 425 had a SP 6 Chime on, as well as 113, 113's SP 6 Chime was at one time NH&I 40's Main Whistle, it was brought by a voulenteer. 113 also had on the engineer's personal whistle, a Reading 6 Chime, which was Reading G-Class Pacific Number 179's whistle.
113 was wearing an SP 6 chime also? I only heard the reading 6 chime
2:02 that 6 chime almost sounds like my old one :]
Brilliant...really enjoyed it. Greetings from the UK. John
Thank you very much! Greetings in return from the USA!
Steam doubleheaders is always a treat!
Which is exactly why I had to get up there to catch this! :)
So all together, what whistles are these?
425: SP 6 Chime 113: SP 6 Chime and Reading 6 Chime
113's whistle sounds like Strasburg Railroad number 90
They are the same kind of whistle :)
I really wish 113 would lead.
Maybe one day...
I didn't know 113 has space for 2 whistles. Did they just do this as a modification? Great video Jim!
Thanks for the compliment! Not sure about that.
Great catch i love that 6 chime on 425 as well also whats the whistle on 113
That is a reading 6 chime on 113
And an SP 6 Chime
it does
Noticed towards the end the cars had interior lights on. Was that a generator car just before the caboose.
Yup...you may be able to see smoke rising from the exhaust on top of the car as well...
and smoke too
I do see a light in there
They almost sound the same
3rd Comment! YES!
Also, 425 had black paint, and it also had a smoke box, similar to the one that Strasburg 90 used to have, right?
