Great report Elliot. Keep up the good work. It seems these new EV cars are getting more technical by the day. Driver feedback or dynamics as you call them are a big part of the driving experience. Tesla have taken this and spun it around. I’ve driven the model S and model 3. They don’t feel very engaging and the model 3, dual motor is so flat through the bends. I think we’re getting away from the driving enjoyment and turning the cockpit into an entertainment system with way too much automation thrown in. I saw the Funky Cat locally the other day. That does look like a fun car.
This production is exactly the reason why everybody loves this other guy who explains cars in 60 seconds .. or showslike now you know .. the real stuff
When BYD hits Europe it's going to be a painful experience for legacy car makers. Vertical integration has not been adopted by car makers in the west (besides Tesla). With some design tweaks for the European market they'll be a force to be reckoned with.
Not so sure about that. The quality of a German car is still far ahead of these Chinese versions, and the resale value will likely also differ wildly. I know most people won’t be able to afford a nice car like a BMW, Mercedes or Audi but even a car maker such as VW are years ahead when it comes to build quality compared to the Chinese. There’s a lot of focus on battery tech but the knowledge to build a quality car is something the European car makers have perfected over the last several decades not to mention the security features where they are far ahead of the Chinese. Even Tesla’s build quality leaves a lot to be desired compared to these European car makers.
Looks pretty good. From the side it doesn't look that different from many cars but that's probably down to it being efficient. Maybe I missed it but I didn't hear the range although I suspect it's pretty good. I live in Thailand and I haven't seen BYD here yet but given the ease of trade between the two countries I would expect them to be here soon. GWM are already here with the ORA and Haval brands.. The only only issue for me apart from not having enough money is how low it is. It looks good and it helps drag which is mostly OK around Bangkok and down towards Pattaya where the roads are good. Up here in the northeast extra ground clearance is more of benefit since the roads are built by guys with pickups and there often seems to be little thought about how cars fit the picture.
If you have a parking space to charge your electric car and travel within 300 kilometers a day, an electric car is the best choice in congested Bangkok. But if you want to go to Isan, and there are a lot of bad roads, I still recommend using a load-bearing four-wheel drive SUV, such as the mv-X, D-MAX.
@@lionheart3025 Yes roads in Isaan can be bad. I said I hadn't seen a BYD here in Thailand and then a couple of weeks ago whilst driving in Bangkok before flying to the UK I saw one and remembered seeing them before. They are the electric taxis you see around.

Thanks to Elliot and co. for keeping us informed of what might be coming soon to a country near us. The section on their process improvements was particularly interesting, but I wondered about the use of manufacturer-provided stats, eg. the use of CTB architecture making the shell 50% stronger, and the side 45% better protected in a collision. Does that mean crash impact testing has found that an occupant would be 45% less likely to suffer a serious injury in a side-impact? Do we know how this compares to Western vehicles? It's tempting for PR departments to produce flashy numbers that might not mean very much in reality.... and the BYD hat may have (unfairly) made me even more sceptical than usual!
@@jasonkeweneallan2827 ATTO 3 also got 5 star EuroNCAP rating using their 2022 standards, beating out the BMW i4 which only got 4 stars. The Seal (ATTO 4) should do a little bit better since it has the more advanced CTB feature.
Tesla just lowered its price in China again, model 3 is now merely 2k dollars more expensive than seal. By the way, go check out byd’s new brand YangWang. It was launched yesterday, absolutely mind blowing.
Great looking and very promising EV, let's hope it reaches the UK at a really competitive price. My only criticism would be why rear wheel drive rather than front for the 2X4? It also comes as 4X4 so front wheel drive is immediately possible and preferable for bad weather traction. OK so the "frunk" would be lost but potentially regained in the trunk.
RWD on ICE cars generally poorer in low grip situations due to weight distribution. Engine/gearbox up front and not much over the back axle. In EV the weight distribution is much more even. Battery in the middle and motor over the back wheels. RWD leaves the front just for steering which is much better. VW have done this with the MEB platform too.
210,000 RMB is £24,700. If you ADD 10% import tariff and 20% VAT it takes you to £32,600. So that £34,500 price looks like the 'landed in EU' price. Maybe.....
Kind of disappointed in the boot, would have preferred a Hatchback in my opinion. Also although the inside looks plush, maybe tone the seats down a bit, especially the rear ones and those tear drops on the rear. Otherwise a damn fine looking car. Needs to come in at under £40 though to be a contender in the UK market, but might be possible if BYD get into Sodium Batteries for their car's by 2023 as suggested recently...
My only issue with Chinese cars is the invasive thing with cameras and software etc. Is it all to help the experience? Same reason I won't buy a Chinese phone

@@marvinsamuels1237 They will gain in popularity but the issue for the Chinese manufacturers is their human rights issues, animal welfare and the COVID elephant in the room. I try and avoid Chinese products myself but sometimes you can't. A car is a considered purchase, you can't buy one without other things coming to mind.
Or when trying to stop a heavy EV... more mass - more kinetic energy that has to be absorbed by the brakes (and converted to heat via friction)... better cooling is good, for EVs.
"This Chinese EV Is Going To Be A HUGE HIT In Europe" I have seen more convincing commercials than this one. Strangely, they forgot to tell that this is an advertisement.
For all those that can't work out the price, 210,000 RMB is £24,700. Add 10% import tariff and 20% VAT and it's £32,600. Throw in a couple of k for shipping and thats the £34k -ish price quoted in the video. So that would be the 'landed' price. Assuming western dealers get the same margins as the Chinese dealerships on the 210,000RMB....The only reason it would sell for more than that is that it's nearest made-in-china competition (MG4) sells for nearly that much and it's clearly a much lesser product.
Looks like the base model of the Seal falls into my budget, 350 Km is probably enough especially if the improved high speed efficiency and slipperiness of the Seal give better high-speed efficiency than the other models. ( I want to charge it on the weekends with solar rather than every few days overnight).
That is a great-looking car... WOW...! Similar in design ethos to the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 6, it's great that manufacturers are (albeit, rather too gradually for my liking...) finally starting to move away from aerodynamically-inefficient leviathan SUVs and focusing on efficiency and range. Well done, BYD - it deserves to sell like hot-cakes 👍

Small mistake on your graphic at 2:54. The 230 kW power of the long range RWD model equates to 310 hp, not 210 hp. There is no way that heavy car goes 0-60 in 5.9 seconds if it only has 210 hp on tap!
Allegedly around 4.1 miles per kWh. We didn't have long enough with it to thoroughly test that ourselves but it certainly looks to be well above average
Good to see people using “miles per kWh” more often. It’s more accessible for people who drive ICE vehicles and are looking to make the switch, as Wh per mile doesn’t really stick. Miles per kWh is very similar to miles per gallon/liter.
BYD coming to the FullyCharged UK North Show this year? Would be good for them to gauge the market and to see how your reviews translate to what we would see
I dunno - I interpreted that to mean 'no slop', rather than 'hard/crashy'. 'Tight' suspension setup can still be supple etc, imo... but I admit that's something that Elliot would have to comment on, I guess.
Thanks for the review, highly informative and helpful. Just a quick correction suggestion if I can, at 5:40, the unit of Price in China should be RMB, not RNB :)
I think it is a fair review. You want a manufacturer paid ad? Go watch any one of the Vinfast videos, where they are paid to talk about Vinfast for two thirds of the video and only gets a few minutes driving the car itself, with a Vinfast minder in the back seat. Multiple reviews for the Seal will be coming out, so you will get a real sense of how good the car is. The latest gen Chinese EVs starting to be exported internationally have looked impressive. I literally could not find a single review that didn't just gush about what a great car the MG4 is. All the Australia/NZ based youtubers reviewing the BYD ATTO 3 have generally given it great review as well. Similar for NIO and Xpeng reviews from the western press.
nice car....BYD need to hire a better marketing company to place their products in an unique spot that makes them desirable outside of china. try Riese marketing.
That car looks fantastic. I much prefer the styling to Tesla's options. Unfortunately, I live in a backward part of the world where we can't buy such products, namely North America. Bring it to Canada and I'll buy one.
If it's imported it will be close to £55k + so will be up against established competition . Could be a good second hand purchase after expected high depreciation due to brand awareness.
Why, when the MG4 and MG5 are both sub £30k? If they come to the UK at £55k+, they won't dominate the sector they're aimed at, in either the UK or EU markets.
@@nocapproductions5471 if it’s that cheap they will be snapped up, plus the bonus of saving at least another (net) £200 per month on refuelling costs 😊😊😊😊
I'm a bit cautious about BYD getting a huge success in Europe. Their prices are really high compared to the Chinese equivalent. Eg Yuan+/Atto 3 costs 130k-155k RMB in China (€18k-€25k), but actually starts at €43k in Holland! So if this Seal has the same kind of mark-up, 210k RMB will translate to well over €50k and higher for the top trim. That puts it squarely against a Model 3, and that will be a very difficult proposition for Europeans if they can choose.
I think, a HUD / instrument cluster will out compete tesla just by having it alone. Markups are understandable, because they are there to compete in the free market isn't it? If the product is better, why can't they charge more? Tesla's are profitting almost 10k on each sale and those are not marked up? Yet, People still buy them. So if they are just slightly cheaper than a Tesla being a better product, logically they will do well. With that, you get competition which drives prices down. So if you want it cheaper, you need better products and even better competition.
@@furikuri23 the depreciation on an unknown, high end Chinese EV will be shocking. I see very few people choosing this over the model 3 in Europe unless it is considerably cheaper which - doesn’t appear to be the case.
@@Metro6am We can't be predicting something that hasn't happen. Tesla depreciates as well, but no data on the Chinese EVs. Unless you know for sure the bias would depreciate its value, then the free market isn't exactly free after all. 0 minuses mentioned, it's not possible in real world. Looks like this video is not a review and just trying to sell it. And this relates not only for this one
I like the look of it and that it’s not another bloated, high-riding SUV. The structural engineering is impressive too. With the right pricing I’d look past the Chinese origins, although some may not be happy to do that. Nice editing on the video btw.
Absolutely great car with nothing to compare from European legacy. Hope to see the Seal in Switzerland soon, as with MG they do not plan yet to sell in this small but important EV market. If the car works here other regions are no problem!🤓🇨🇭
Perhaps Chinese automakers should consider that competing with executive and "high quality" cars aren't the key to success in the European market. We had enough of chasing the Tesla arms race! It's far from the sustainable solution. We want the small, affordable EVs! We just want them, and for them to be safe and accomodating to European demands - practicality over exclusivity.
But he is a China car, and his target customers are from China. Public transportation in China is very developed, and car buyers pay more attention to appearance and quality.
Automakers have been trying to bury the costs associated with EVs in luxury cars. Producing the small EV you're looking for would mean either losing money, or selling it at a price people wouldn't be interested in.
@@nathanahubbard1975 maybe that's the problem, despite government incentives they won't develop affordable EVs this late. Another great review. BYD are looking great and will be a welcome addition to the UK where we still don't have enough choice of EVs built from scratch instead of adapted from ICE
I've been keeping my eye on this car as I absolutely love it. I'd have to go for the longer range version but I would prefer to have this car in an estate version for more space for my family stuff.

BYD seems like a company that could produce an alternative to the ID Buzz
🤔
"an affordable alternative" would be nice!
They do, but they are a bit bigger BUZZES,. Your local bus company buys those, and BYD has been making them for a long time. :)
They already make the T3 minivan.
It’s more of a competitor to the Nissan eNV200, but yes a “Buzz killer” too I suppose.
BYD has a joint venture with Mercedes who's brand named DENZA, they got a MPV , DENZA D9
This presenter is very good. No gimmicks no silliness. Well done
BYD is the world leader in battery tech along with China's CATL, China makes the best EVs by far.
I love BYD. They really think human. I am expecting a lot from BYD because they can do good quality in less money. 👏👏👏🇰🇷
Thank You! Elliot just makes the best Reviews!!!
This production is exactly the reason why everybody loves this other guy who explains cars in 60 seconds .. or showslike now you know .. the real stuff
The problem is the countries human rights record and Europe seams to forget that for the sake of EV's.
The western countries are the worst human rights in the world.
Woow. ORA good cat is the one I loved. More I like ORA good cat because I prefer smaller car. I am from Korea 🇰🇷👏. But I dont like what Hundai and kia doing
For what it's worth, the ATTO 3 received a 5-star ANCAP rating here in New Zealand.
@@jasonkeweneallan2827 ATTO 3 also got 5 star EuroNCAP rating using their 2022 standards, beating out the BMW i4 which only got 4 stars. The Seal (ATTO 4) should do a little bit better since it has the more advanced CTB feature.
Even without CTB the ATTO 3 got 5 Stars in Euro-NCAP under their stricter 2022 testing standard so the Seal can only be better.
It has 308 hp in the Long Range version, with so much power, a RWD version is more suited. Also, EVs RWD are more predictable than ICE ones.
@@CATinBOOTS81 Why is that so, please?
'Proper drivers' prefer rear wheel drive. Apparently.
@@timjohnson67 when you put a lot of power on the wheels that steer your car, you're stressing them very much and inducing a lot of understeering.
Before anyone gets to excited about the £34500 price don't forget the 10% duty and then 20% VAT which takes the starting price up to £45500.
210,000 RMB is £24,700. If you ADD 10% import tariff and 20% VAT it takes you to £32,600. So that £34,500 price looks like the 'landed in EU' price. Maybe.....
The MG4 is about 45 percent more expensive than in China ,I believe this car should cost about the same.
Interesting, but what's the betting that "starts at £34k" will translate to "from £45k+" when it hits the UK.
If we're lucky.
It needs to be under 40k!
thanks, when will alll these great companies come to the UK? Cant you guys arrange some inteviews with their executives?
Kind of disappointed in the boot, would have preferred a Hatchback in my opinion. Also although the inside looks plush, maybe tone the seats down a bit, especially the rear ones and those tear drops on the rear. Otherwise a damn fine looking car.
Needs to come in at under £40 though to be a contender in the UK market, but might be possible if BYD get into Sodium Batteries for their car's by 2023 as suggested recently...
My only issue with Chinese cars is the invasive thing with cameras and software etc. Is it all to help the experience? Same reason I won't buy a Chinese phone
I can remember everyone in the U.K. assumed that Toyotas must be rubbish, - until they drove one!😊
Exactly! In the 90’s and early 00’s people dismissed the Korean brands, and before that in the late 70’s they dismissed the Japanese brands and look what those brands are producing now? Reliable, good value transport.
I drove a Tesla and an Xpeng in the same day about a year ago. You could clearly tell that one was build with cheap rubbish parts that'll break and cost you a fortune to replace. The other one was Chinese
That was in the 70s, people are naturally sceptical about any new product until it proves itself.
@@interabang exactly. It’s just a matter of time before Chinese made EVs will be widely accepted.

what about V2X or vehicle to grid? no review of the display interface, menus, soft features, USB ports....
Perforated brakes only cool them, they don't make you stop faster, they only help fight brake fade when racing
10 years from now and BYD is going to kill many of the brands we know.
恭喜你,你是正确的,很少有人认识到这一点
For all those that can't work out the price, 210,000 RMB is £24,700. Add 10% import tariff and 20% VAT and it's £32,600. Throw in a couple of k for shipping and thats the £34k -ish price quoted in the video. So that would be the 'landed' price. Assuming western dealers get the same margins as the Chinese dealerships on the 210,000RMB....The only reason it would sell for more than that is that it's nearest made-in-china competition (MG4) sells for nearly that much and it's clearly a much lesser product.
The era of BYD is upon us - and nothing it's going to get in their way
Alcantera is a 100% synthetic fiber made from plastic. It's not some kind of premium material.
Looks like the base model of the Seal falls into my budget, 350 Km is probably enough especially if the improved high speed efficiency and slipperiness of the Seal give better high-speed efficiency than the other models. ( I want to charge it on the weekends with solar rather than every few days overnight).
Sold. I’ll be looking at this as soon as it arrives in the UK for ordering. Great video.

Love the rear lights.
Didn't say how many miles per kWh it will do.

Great quality video, but we need more detailed content; it is closer to a advertisement than a critical overview.. Elliot does a great job.

Why, when the MG4 and MG5 are both sub £30k? If they come to the UK at £55k+, they won't dominate the sector they're aimed at, in either the UK or EU markets.
It will cost around £40k when it comes later next year.

This car will not be cheap in Europe because in China it markets itself as a Tesla Model 3 rival.
@@furikuri23I have tried the Atto 3 and Model 3. Thee Atto doesn’t even come close to the driving feel of the Model 3 even with the HUD.
Elliot's videos are the best on the channel!
