Yes you can once you have passed your OSPAP. You don’t have to wait to complete the OSPAP, you can apply to get the pre-reg training just even before you commence OSPAP but you can only start the job once you pass OSPaP

Hello and thanks for watching. If you are already a pharmacist in your home country and wish to become a UK pharmacist, the only way is through OSPAP. An M.Sc in a pharmacy course does not allow you practice as a pharmacist in the UK. An MPharm programme in the UK is for 4 years and you still have to complete one year of pre-reg afterwards and write the final exam. If you do the MPharm, you don’t need to do OSPAP.

I'm already running a Msc program under public health and im eligible for 2 years post study visa but I want use join next year Ospap program and my tier 4 visa will be expiring June Next year. so I was thinking if is possible to extend my tier 4 visa to do the OSPAP program and if I wil still be eligible to apply for post study visa after the OSPAP program since I do not want to use my 2 years post study visa yet and is it possible to apply for tier 4 visa for ospap purpose. please what do u think and can u give me a suggestion of what is best to do?
Hello and I am glad to hear you find my videos useful. I think you may need to familiarise yourself with the gov uk page on “Extending Student Visa”. From what I have read on there, it is possible to do so provided you meet the requirements. When switching to the student visa to do OSPAP, I will suggest choosing the M.Sc version to avoid losing out on your post study work visa. With your M.Sc in public health you should still be eligible but I am not really sure about the dynamics if you switched to another course and if that new course is not at an M.Sc level. In my head, it seems possible that you could choose the PG dip version but on the gov uk site for extending student visas, it says the new course must be at a higher academic level than your current course or same level or intercalated to a medicine, dentistry or medical science course you started under your student visa. It does sound complicated. My suggestion will be to study the gov uk website and maybe ask them questions and if no joy, maybe get some expert advice from an immigration expert. Also you can study the post study work visa guidance when it comes out in July 2021. Good luck with your studies and plans.

Hello and thanks for watching. I know there may be scholarships (particularly the ones on university websites) for all courses which you can apply for but it has to be done in good time. I don’t know of any specific one. I think the job situation for pharmacists is great but that’s my personal opinion.
Once you complete the entire process and are registered as a UK pharmacist, you can work as one in any of the sectors including hospital, community pharmacy, GP practice, industry, etc. You can also locum.

There are some exemptions to IELTS and Nigeria or studying in a Nigerian University is not on the list or exempted unfortunately. You can apply to work as a Pharmacy Technician which has a different process and if you do work in the UK as a Pharmacy Technician for 2 years or more, I believe you may be exempted from writing IELTS but I would encourage you to check with the GPHC in the first place and check their website. Yes you can bring your family with you as far as you meet all the visa requirements. It does not matter if you choose PGDip or M.Sc, you can still bring your family. Good luck

You only need OSPAP to work as a pharmacist. If you want to work as a pharmacy assistant, you don’t need OSPAP but you will need the pharmacy to sponsor your visa and that would be very difficult.
Yes it is or the other English exam but one of them has to be done if you want to be a pharmacist in the UK via OSPAP. If you just want a regular job but not as a pharmacist, it may not be compulsory.

Thanks for your question. There’s no other way to practice and work as a UK pharmacist except through OSPAP if you are a non-EEA trained pharmacist. Even though pharmacists are now back on the shortage occupation list, you can’t get a job as a pharmacist without completing all the processes as a non-EEA pharmacist.

Thanks for watching. It is possible to work in a pharmacy while doing your OSPAP but you can only work for 20 hours per week during term time as a student (they usually will write it on your visa). The job will usually be as a dispenser or pharmacy assistant. I doubt if it will be enough money to support you through school but every income is useful. It won't be easy but it is doable. It will definitely provide you with familiarity into the UK pharmacy sector.

Yes the above applies to internationally registered pharmacist who are already on the OSPAP course and hold a student visa. As mentioned, you have to check on your visa what work restrictions you may have. They always write it on the visa just in case it changes. Good luck.

Hello and thanks for watching. To work as a clinical pharmacist, you do have to go through the OSPAP route. It is indeed an expensive and intensive route but I believe it is worth it. Unfortunately there is no job within pharmacy (asides being a pharmacist) that can enable you meet that amount and if there were, it would take years and a lot of sacrifice. If you require a visa to come to the UK, then it becomes more complicated. If you have another kind of visa, for example a spouse visa, you could work in another sector, save up for a few years and then do the OSPAP. Hope this is helpful.

Hello and congratulations!! You can start applying to pharmacovigilance or clinical research jobs in the UK. The only issue sometimes is that the companies may not want to sponsor but some do so keep trying. If you want to become a UK pharmacist, you have to come through OSPAP.

Hello, thanks for watching. To get a work visa that enables you to work in pharmacy, you will need to work as a pharmacist (go through OSPAP, pre-reg and write the exam). There may be other jobs but I am not sure you will get sponsorship/work visa for them. The GPHC usually decides on the suitability of your pharmacy qualification and how it compares to UK standards so only them alone can let you know if you are eligible for OSPAP.
Hello, I'm currently working as a Pharmacist in Sri Lanka with 5+ years experience and my qualification is a higher diploma in Pharmacy. I recently did my IELTS and got an overall band 7, will I be able to do OSPAP
The PG diploma does not have a project/dissertation component but the M.Sc version has one. Also, the PG Dip does not allow switching into the post study work visa if the student required a student visa to commence the OSPAP programme whereas the M.Sc version allows one to switch from a student visa to the post study visa. Of course, the M.Sc version is more expensive than the PG Dip version.

You are welcome. I think you need to study the do’s and don’ts of the post study visa to ensure you are able to study whilst on it. I know it is designed to be able to work without sponsorship but I don’t see why you can’t study alongside working whilst on it however it is best to clarify with the gov uk website or an immigration expert. If it is meant to start January 2023, does your current student visa cover you till the entire 2022?

If you want to work as a pharmacist in the UK and you are from a non-EEA country, you must complete and pass OSPAP and the other processes. To work as a clinical pharmacist, you have to be a pharmacist. I am not familiar with jobs you can do with just M.Sc Clinical pharmacy without being a pharmacist.

You can always contact the companies directly and explain that your qualification in India may be equivalent or ask them what you need to do provide evidence of this. If you are asking if you can work as a pharmacist just with your overseas degree and experience, the answer is no. You have to go through the entire process- OSPAP, Pre-Reg and Final GPHC exam which takes two years minimum. I believe you can work in Pharmacy Industry without OSPAP but not as a UK pharmacist maybe in another role. You can work part time up to 20 hours during term time whilst on a student visa.
Yes, if you study M.Pharm in the UK then you just go on to do the Pre-reg (52 weeks) and pass the GPHC registration exam. The M.Pharm in the UK is about 4 years.

I think the Tier 2 visa is a working visa and I am not sure what restrictions it might have (you may need to check the UKVI website on this). I do have to say that having a Tier 2 visa means you are working full time and it can be quite challenging working full time and doing OSPAP at the same time. With regards to IELTS or OET, I don't know which is easier as I took IELTS in my own time. OET has only been recently accepted by the GPHC.

Hello and thanks for watching. I am afraid I don't know much about many other jobs outside of being a pharmacist. From what I have heard, it could be difficult getting a job when you do some of the courses you listed about but it is not impossible. With the new PSW which will be in place by July 2021, it would make things a little easier as you have more time after your student visa expires to look for a job. If you are able to afford it, I will recommend doing the OSPAP course (same amount most times as an M.Sc). The OSPAP route is a more straightfoward route to getting a job and eventually getting your PR and being a British Citizen as far as you meet all the requirements. I understand however the only other jobs in hospital within the pharmacy department will be as a pharmacy assistant or support worker or dispenser and those jobs do not pay well. You can apply to work as a Pharmacy Technician but you still need to go through some GPHC process. You can’t rely on people saying the exam is difficult; if you put in the work you will pass the OSPAP. A lot of people have done it. Alternatively, you can check on NHS jobs for other roles in the hospital that’s not pharmacy related. Good luck.

Hello and thanks for your question. Just to clarify- you can apply for both but most people apply for one because if you are eligible to be a UK pharmacist why would you want to be a pharmacy technician. The reason people may apply for the pharmacy technician registration is that they may still be gathering money for the OSPAP programme. To apply for a pharmacy technician registration, one has to find a pharmacy or hospital that is willing to commit to the training. I hope this is clear.

Yes the above applies to internationally registered pharmacist who are already on the OSPAP course and hold a student visa. As mentioned, you have to check on your visa what work restrictions you may have. They always write it on the visa just in case it changes. Good luck.

Hello and thanks for watching. To work as a clinical pharmacist, you do have to go through the OSPAP route. It is indeed an expensive and intensive route but I believe it is worth it. Unfortunately there is no job within pharmacy (asides being a pharmacist) that can enable you meet that amount and if there were, it would take years and a lot of sacrifice. If you require a visa to come to the UK, then it becomes more complicated. If you have another kind of visa, for example a spouse visa, you could work in another sector, save up for a few years and then do the OSPAP. Hope this is helpful.

Hello and congratulations!! You can start applying to pharmacovigilance or clinical research jobs in the UK. The only issue sometimes is that the companies may not want to sponsor but some do so keep trying. If you want to become a UK pharmacist, you have to come through OSPAP.

Hello, thanks for watching. To get a work visa that enables you to work in pharmacy, you will need to work as a pharmacist (go through OSPAP, pre-reg and write the exam). There may be other jobs but I am not sure you will get sponsorship/work visa for them. The GPHC usually decides on the suitability of your pharmacy qualification and how it compares to UK standards so only them alone can let you know if you are eligible for OSPAP.

The PG diploma does not have a project/dissertation component but the M.Sc version has one. Also, the PG Dip does not allow switching into the post study work visa if the student required a student visa to commence the OSPAP programme whereas the M.Sc version allows one to switch from a student visa to the post study visa. Of course, the M.Sc version is more expensive than the PG Dip version.

You are welcome. I think you need to study the do’s and don’ts of the post study visa to ensure you are able to study whilst on it. I know it is designed to be able to work without sponsorship but I don’t see why you can’t study alongside working whilst on it however it is best to clarify with the gov uk website or an immigration expert. If it is meant to start January 2023, does your current student visa cover you till the entire 2022?

If you want to work as a pharmacist in the UK and you are from a non-EEA country, you must complete and pass OSPAP and the other processes. To work as a clinical pharmacist, you have to be a pharmacist. I am not familiar with jobs you can do with just M.Sc Clinical pharmacy without being a pharmacist.

If you are asking if you can work as a pharmacist just with your overseas degree and experience, the answer is no. You have to go through the entire process- OSPAP, Pre-Reg and Final GPHC exam which takes two years minimum. I believe you can work in Pharmacy Industry without OSPAP but not as a UK pharmacist maybe in another role. You can work part time up to 20 hours during term time whilst on a student visa.

Yes, if you study M.Pharm in the UK then you just go on to do the Pre-reg (52 weeks) and pass the GPHC registration exam. The M.Pharm in the UK is about 4 years.

I think the Tier 2 visa is a working visa and I am not sure what restrictions it might have (you may need to check the UKVI website on this). I do have to say that having a Tier 2 visa means you are working full time and it can be quite challenging working full time and doing OSPAP at the same time.
With regards to IELTS or OET, I don't know which is easier as I took IELTS in my own time. OET has only been recently accepted by the GPHC.

Hello and thanks for watching. I am afraid I don't know much about many other jobs outside of being a pharmacist. From what I have heard, it could be difficult getting a job when you do some of the courses you listed about but it is not impossible. With the new PSW which will be in place by July 2021, it would make things a little easier as you have more time after your student visa expires to look for a job. If you are able to afford it, I will recommend doing the OSPAP course (same amount most times as an M.Sc). The OSPAP route is a more straightfoward route to getting a job and eventually getting your PR and being a British Citizen as far as you meet all the requirements. I understand however the only other jobs in hospital within the pharmacy department will be as a pharmacy assistant or support worker or dispenser and those jobs do not pay well. You can apply to work as a Pharmacy Technician but you still need to go through some GPHC process. You can’t rely on people saying the exam is difficult; if you put in the work you will pass the OSPAP. A lot of people have done it. Alternatively, you can check on NHS jobs for other roles in the hospital that’s not pharmacy related. Good luck.

Hello and thanks for your question. Just to clarify- you can apply for both but most people apply for one because if you are eligible to be a UK pharmacist why would you want to be a pharmacy technician. The reason people may apply for the pharmacy technician registration is that they may still be gathering money for the OSPAP programme. To apply for a pharmacy technician registration, one has to find a pharmacy or hospital that is willing to commit to the training. I hope this is clear.
