Congratulations!! I'm so impressed by the dedication and discipline that it takes to get that far. Just remember, love your patients. Be obsessed with them. Take fewer appointments in order to make human connections with people. It will all come back and be so rewarding for everyone.
@@Sentient_Goose Taking fewer appointments is not necessarily a good thing. People need care and the fewer appointments we take, the longer individuals have to wait to receive the care that they need. It is important to establish a connection with your patients whilst making certain people are seen and taken care of.
I think it would have been good to share the fact that most people who want to get into derm have to be about 10-15% at the top of the class. So even though you’re in Med school, it doesn’t always mean you will match into the specialty of your choice. It’s a really tough field to get into. I think it’s wonderful to have direction and things you love to do but to have Derm be your be all end all… it’s hard. Don’t be discouraged if you can’t get in.
I agree with ur o[inion. But I also think having a second option means that your aren't really definite with your first and aren't as determined as you would be with only one option. Just my opinion.
@@mke_gal if you go to an American Med school you’re almost guaranteed a match so I wouldn’t worry about not matching. And what did you mean connections, do you mean during med school or only after. Thank you...
@@gloshiv2381 SGU is the top Caribbean school, they even have some grads who got into neurosurgery that I personally have met which is amazing IMO. But they scored over 265 on their boards plus they had a lot of research and took some time off for that. The same person would not have needed to try as hard to get into neurosurgery had they got into American Med school. Also their family was all doctor, a lot of connections. If you’re from Africa the biggest factor next to your scores will be are you a US citizen or at least green card holder? If so, you can do generally pretty well from SGU and should match into any primary care specialty without problems. There's no best or worst field/specialty in medicine. It really depends on what you are interested in and each individual's goal, or what you want to do for the patients.
@Lilo is the baddest I don't think being one is hard, but getting to the point where you are one is incredibly difficult. It's one of the hardest residencies to match into.

It’s pretty rare, but if you’re not American or coming from American Med school their are about less than 1% dermatology residency spots for non American US grads. Gen surg and IM are much more realistic to get into

Some residency programs do what is called a transition year, meaning you’ll work as an intern in internal medicine or general surgery to get more background before entering your desired residency. A lot of programs have that built in!

What surgeries can a dermatologist perform?
Does the surgery rotation for dermatology in US, teach residents about plastic surgery as well?
No, plastic surgery is another specialty. Dermatologists do mohs surgery, is a surgical technique used to treat skin cancer, that's it.
Laser surgery, cryo surgery, excisions (cysts, cancers, lipomas, ...) grafts, flaps, biopsies, trephinations, some do blephs, etc.
