    Hey Tim! Shame that the customer didn't go for the complete repair as it's always good as you know to have the vehicle back to the way it was built. Also understandable that the customer doesn't have the money too. And nice diagnostics on getting it all sorted out. Have a good weekend!

    Tim, Man I bet that no matter how all else falls, you try extremely hard by helping people out as much as you can whenever you can. I doubt any normal person would lose sleep, but we all know that it's one of those things that gnaws at a man's heart when you know the right thing is just around the corner and life's agenda journey isn't on anyone's side at particular time everyone wishes it was.
    It was the customers call and he made it. You did the very best anyone can do. You've got bills and a life journey of your own to deal with. Sure hope the customer gets what they need to get this fixed completely and asap.
    God Bless ya Bruddah! I sure wish we had you and your garage over here in paradise. Sure is really hard to find a trusted mechanic like you.

      What? Ya want paradise and a good mechanic aint that like having your cake and eating it two2 too also. Actually I never understood that saying. If I buy a cake I'm gonna eat it. Maybe they said it for you.
      Oh and you're wright write rite right correct about walking closely behind someone, you're gonna hear noises and maybe some odors that ya didn't wanna hear or smell, come on Tim give people some room.

      That's super nice of you to say Bruddah! It makes me feel warm and fuzzy like I want to pack my surf board and sell my thirty round AR-15 clips and make the move to the island! Ive always wanted to live there but to be honest im not sure the locals would trust me as their mechanic. My body has never seen the sun and im about as fair skinned as Captain Cook and we all know how the locals treated him when he got there. Id rather die of scurvy then be the main course in a luau. I still want to join you for a BBQ and a beer someday soon!

      Tim and MostlyMoparIH -- You both have really great points of wisdom but I have to say this ... who/what would you rather curl up to on those long nights, an ice cold moose or a tanned tropical beauty??
      -- I do give y'all something tho, I'm betting that if the tanned women here are anything like my wife, then I'm betting the dizzying green fog cloud and huge plumes of spewing ass-gas isn't all that much different than a moose's night time snuggle.

    Happened to my Titan as well. I bought it used at 100K miles and the parking brake assy came apart just like that one due to rust and neglect. I had a Nissan dealer replace everything then I was able to get some of my money back from the place I bought it.

    As many codes this vehicle has stored, the owner must be strapped for cash or simply doesn't know or care about his truck. Perhaps he doesn't plan to keep it much longer and only wants what is absolutely necessary repaired.
    Though it's hard to allow a car to leave your shop in this condition, you've done your job in communicating the big picture. Ultimately it's owner's call to make.
    Good job Tim!

    • @reweydewy
      @reweydewy 8 років тому +1

      Stanley Waggoner I know all of us techs/mechs have seen way way way way worse. Many car manufacturers call it a parking brake not emergency brake. In my opinion it's not a huge deal. Don't get me wrong it Definitely would be fixed if it were my truck.

    • @snw56
      @snw56 8 років тому +1

      It's not just the park/emergency brake that's disturbing. Look at all the other codes the owner has chosen not to repair. I think he is trying to hang on to the truck as long as possible (without spending any money on maintenance) before he sells it.
      I hope it works out for him!

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 років тому +2

      Yes. This customer has a fleet of tired vehicles that his kids drive. Hes been in here with several of them over the last few months and spent a ton of cash. IO could tell when I talked to him that it wasn't a good time to spend that kind of money. However sooner or later there will be a price to deferring all these repairs. Hes also trying to get his kids to take responsibility for some of this stuff and I commend him for that so when the other side does the same thing I hope he can use it as a learning experience about doing preventative repairs to save money in the long run. Its just our job to educate them and do the best we can. I still have a little heartburn over this one but ill have to just move on. I have shop overhead to pay or I wont be able to help anyone have a safe vehicle and still a few bucks in their bank account., hahaha. Thanks a lot for watching my vids!

      @ThecardoctorTV  8 років тому +1

      I have customers who insist on using them every time they park. Then I get in the vehicle and cant figure out why it wont go forward. haha. I also have customers who use them as their primary braking system. hahaha

      Lots of reasons why car maintenance is neglected.
      A friend of mine (lives several miles away) recently had his '00 Chevy S10 towed to a local shop. Power steering (non-rack & pinon) suddenly stopped working.
      Shop replaced the pump, new hoses, new serpentine belt and flushed the system........total bill including towing fee: $579.00.
      For many years, I offered to flush his power steering system for $25.00 plus fluids. He never accepted my offers.
      I told him the number one reason for pump failure is contaminated fluid. Regular flushes are cheap insurance against pump failure.
      My friend said it takes too much time out of his schedule to drive the car to my place for me to perform this service while he waits, but he didn't think twice about spending $579.00, calling a tow truck, leaving the car overnight and hitching a ride from a neighbor to pick up the truck the next day.
      I don't understand this line of thinking.

    • @deltabravo5719
      @deltabravo5719 5 років тому

      Misalignment or incorrect tire size from wear or wrong XXX/65/20 for example
      i had a VDC and ABS light come on... when i mis aligned my wheels... (rear).
      I realigned my wheels and the ABS system no longer noticed wheel ratios turning at different speeds...
      its most likely, incorrect tires/worn tires/ incorrect wheel alignment .. .or last a level suspension indicator(little plastic arm) is broken or popped off the frame.

    I just changed the sensors in my truck as my vdc/slip/abs lights were on. Same as in your video my ebrakes were in pieces so i removed and didn't place back in due to the fact in the 15 yrs i had my truck i never used them. Now when i start my truck all lights are off 10-15 mins of driving the vdc/slip/abs lights come back on. I stop and turn off the truck the lights go out. this repeats. Any idea why this occurs?

    I look at it this way.If its a automatic you will almost never use the E brake.I mean i can go like 3 years at a time with no use.I know its for emergency or parking.But in a split second emergency most of the time you wont think about that emergency brake.If the vehicle is a auto trans then when its in park the rear wheels are locked.The e brake on a rear drive has almost the same effect.Its just about pointless on a rwd auto truck.

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 років тому

      I agree. The biggest problem I see is that the left rear is going to take a crap and do the same thing on that side. I never use my e brake. I have customers who always use it on their automatic trans vehicles. They say if you use it all the time it wont seize up if you only use it once every few years. IM sure that's a valid point but im one of those people whos afraid to ever use it. Especially in the winter!

    Wish you could've done those because I'm currently dealing with this except the left side. I replaced both shoes, rotors, pads, spring kit, parking brake actuators but I'm oblivious to the wheel speed sensor. The 102 tooth ring has some damage on the outside. I hope I can confirm the sensor is offline asks I hope I have the skill necessary to complete this repair on my 2015 titan.

    I would have taken the parking brake before ABS. I've driven without it in 2 cars for years and like Kilmer says, who cares if u don't have it as long as you know how to drive.
    But Alaska probably needs ABS before Texas would

      Thanks. My estimate for the complete repair was actually quite a bit. This poor guy has been here with multiple vehicles over the past couple months and spent a lot of cash. Its hard not to feel bad for people. Its always a struggle to charge properly, make vehicles safe and pay the shop overhead. I think this customer has a better appreciation for my default position of wanting to help, make vehicles safe and not just drain his bank account. Its a struggle every day. Although at the time I was thinking this video was going great but then I couldn't sell the job. But in hindsight I think it shows how this real world struggle plays out daily in the industry. Anyway, welcome once again to my world. haha, Thanks for stopping by

    My 04 titan just had the same thing happen except I was driving down the road when it broke free, fell down onto the sensor ring and broke a tooth off the sensor ring and annihilated the speed sensor. I just took all the parts out and put the wheel back on. My question is, can the sensor ring be replaced or do I need a new axle.

    Hmmm...the backing plate where the brake shoe rubs against is bent kinda gives it away. Seen this before when the lip of the drum catches on the shoe during removal and on installation and when they tighten down the wheel and the first revolution of the drum KABOOM! Then it only binds & grinds until it self clearances itself. If the ABS light wasn't "On" that noise would have slowly gone away..HAHAHA Whoa almost fell out of my chair I'm laughing so hard!

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 років тому

      haha. Yes I noticed the backing plate too. I was wondering if the bearing was so bad that the wheel hub was loose causing that. The vehicle is driven by a 19 YO kid so he was probably hoping the noise would just go away. Dad says hes going to have the son save some money to do the full repair. We will see.

      Yea I had time to do slow mo stop and the drum didn't look overheated but there were no linings left at all plus there is no lip on the drum from what I can see. Probably a broken piece lodged between the shoe & drum or backing plate & that's what bent it. Wonder if that cable is binding or it was driven with the parking brake on? Hope you get the job b/c it has me curious .

    It's mind bogging when owners do not want brake systems repaired or done.
    Yet, they are willing to pay for Samsung S9 or Iphone X.
    Gotta love those people saying they don't have the money, yet they go on vacations, have internet/tv/phones and throw away food at buffet (yet they treat waiters & waitresses like dirt) and go up for more. Then leave no tips.
    And of course some people just don't have the money to do the full repairs, because they have to put food on the table.
    Wish attorneys, doctors and banks can be that nice and honest to give clients/customers break.

    Oh Me Oh My - "You heard a Clank in someones Rear End".
    -- Bruddah, that might wanna be something you keep to yourself. At minimum, you might wanna not smile and rub your hands when you say those things.

      Yeah. His rear end noises can get real loud. I mean they vibrate the house.

      Mrs Car Doctor -- Gotta be careful there, it might just be the big testies banging out for freedom. I suggest a strong rubber band to hold them together to suppress any future noises. This has been proven to quiet even the loudest of them.
      -- Oh yeah - you have stretch test the rubber band and let it go with a snap or two. You should see and hear a quick response.

    Your good ! Wish you were near by and I could take my Titan to ya. Since we've become basically communist here in America now that would never fly where I'm at. The Govt has so many regulations you'd have to replace the whole rear end half of the Truck to meet all the regulations in Colorado now.

    Finances are always an issue. You cant tell a customer to spend money he/she doesn't have. To play the devil's advocate, lets say this customer lost his hydraulics after you worked on the car. No secondary brake system to stop the car. Bad accident resulting in injuries occurred. I would bet a week's pay that customer would retain an ambulance chaser attorney and you would be named in a law suit. After all said and done, a judge or jury would probably find you liable because you are the pro and you should know better. I hope this never happens Tim, but you should consider declining certain jobs if they put you in this kind of a position.

      Sorry but I'm not buying that argument. You said because he's the pro and should know better. Exactly what video were you watching?

      Yes but the parking brake really isn't considered a secondary braking system. It has been for me when I was too cheap to fix my regular brakes. haha. But take it a step further. Lets say the L side fails and takes out the other wheel speed sensor and they get into an accident. yikes. Anyway I recommended they do the complete repairs, I made it safer then it was when they drove it here and I attached a lengthy disclaimer to the repair order about not having the complete repair done. Hopefully they return for the complete repair. Take care.
